Flirting with the Villain's Mother - Chapter 11
Through Wei Nanyi, Shen Su learned of a demon beyond the original novel’s descriptions—the Mirror Quilt.
The Mirror Quilt’s true form was the lake spirit residing at the bottom of Mirror Lake on Wild Goose Jade Mountain.
In the original story, Wild Goose Jade Mountain was a peak teeming with demonic creatures, a frequent training ground for human cultivators.
The mountain was rich in spiritual Qi, and Mirror Lake, perched at its summit, absorbed the essence of the sun and moon year-round. Its waters gradually imbued with spiritual power, a single sip could prolong life, enhance spiritual power, and eventually awakened the lake’s consciousness. Cultivators called her the Mirror Demon, while the mountain’s demonic creatures knew her as the Mirror Quilt.
Most demonic creatures born on Wild Goose Jade Mountain had drunk from Mirror Lake. From birth, the Mirror Quilt’s bloodline carried the power to suppress all demons. Naturally, the mountain’s demonic creatures revered her, and she became their leader.
Her presence united the demonic creatures of Wild Goose Jade Mountain. From then on, cultivators who ventured there rarely returned. The major sects resolved to break the mountain’s tranquility, deciding to recruit the demons into their ranks.
Demonic creatures yearned for freedom, yet they also understood that sects offered greater resources. Many demons on Wild Goose Jade Mountain were willing to join sects, including Ye Jingqin.
Approaching Immortals Mountain, the foremost sect in the realm, naturally took Ye Jingqin under its wing.
Upon joining Approaching Immortals Mountain, Ye Jingqin adopted a new name: Guiyan, meaning “Returning Goose.” She craved the sect’s resources but couldn’t abandon Wild Goose Jade Mountain, hence her chosen name.
Guiyan was an exceptional young woman—warm, courteous, and beloved by all at Approaching Immortals Mountain, including Wei Nanyi, who was then the Eldest Senior Sister. However, the cultivation methods of demons and cultivators differed greatly, making Guiyan’s life at the sect challenging. Still, she found a Dao partner there named Shen Yiwen, a disciple of Wei Nanyi’s uncle. Wei Nanyi was close to them both and even served as their wedding officiant.
Life had been going well enough, but Guiyan missed the demons of Wild Goose Jade Mountain. She left Approaching Immortals Mountain with Shen Yiwen, and Wei Nanyi never saw them again.
Wei Nanyi had assumed Guiyan would return to Wild Goose Jade Mountain, never imagining they would settle in Fallen Moon City.
If her deduction was correct, Shen Su was a descendant of Guiyan and Shen Yiwen.
Wei Nanyi finished her story, but throughout the telling, she had avoided Shen Su’s gaze.
Shen Su wasn’t foolish; she knew Wei Nanyi was likely lying.
The story seemed complete on the surface, but it was riddled with inconsistencies.
According to the original texts, inner sect disciples of Approaching Immortals Mountain were forbidden from leaving the sect unless they destroyed their cultivation, suffered fatal injuries, or were granted special permission. Otherwise, they would be branded as traitors and relentlessly hunted down.
This wasn’t unique to Approaching Immortals Mountain; every major sect adhered to similar rules.
After all, each inner sect disciple represented a significant investment of the sect’s resources, including medicinal pills and vast quantities of materials. Their departure would signify a substantial loss for the sect. While Guiyan’s case might have been different, Wei Nanyi had been the Sect Leader’s foremost disciple, and her junior sister’s disciple—Shen Yiwen—would undoubtedly have been an inner sect member. There was no way Shen Yiwen could have left Approaching Immortals Mountain so easily.
Why was Wei Nanyi lying?
In Shen Su’s heart, Wei Nanyi was an exemplary person. She shouldn’t need to resort to falsehoods to evade Shen Su’s questions.
Just as Shen Su was about to press further, Wei Nanyi suddenly asked, “Miss Shen, besides the special bloodline, the Mirror Quilt possesses two unique abilities. First, it can reflect the ugliness in people’s hearts and hear their thoughts. Second, it can transform into demonic creatures and possess their bodies. Do you possess these abilities, Miss Shen?”
Wei Nanyi’s tone had clearly shifted, now tinged with caution. She even subtly distanced herself from Shen Su. However, her weakened state meant that moments after leaving Shen Su’s embrace, she swayed back into it.
Her full chest pressed against Shen Su’s arms, the burning contact momentarily made Shen Su forget to answer. Wei Nanyi deliberately clarified, “Miss Shen, can you read my mind?”
Wei Nanyi feared that Shen Su might possess the same abilities as Guiyan. Though she had done nothing to feel guilty about, the thought of her inner secrets being exposed was deeply unsettling.
“No, I can’t,” Shen Su replied quickly. Realizing her answer sounded too abrupt, she added, “But I did hear some things when we were with the Jade Fox earlier.”
Though Wei Nanyi had lied about her ancestors, Shen Su had no intention of deceiving her.
Wei Nanyi’s expression shifted slightly. “Miss Shen, what did you hear?”
She seemed deeply concerned, which Shen Su understood. If her inner thoughts were being probed, she would be equally disturbed.
Shen Su quickly patted her chest and abdomen. “Madam, please rest assured. I only heard two sentences.”
Her sincerity was evident, and Wei Nanyi let out a sigh of relief. “Then it must be your bloodline awakening the residual power of your ancestors within the Jade Fox.”
In other words, Shen Su couldn’t hear Wei Nanyi’s thoughts; it was a power belonging to the Jade Fox.
But wasn’t her bloodline sealed by a restriction?
Could it be that her bloodline had already begun to awaken? Yet this contradicted what the demonic creatures had said. She hadn’t even started cultivating immortality, so how could her bloodline be awakening?
But then again, her bl00d could help Wei Nanyi and even stir the greed of the demon soul within her. By all appearances, it seemed her bloodline had already awakened. Yet the demonic creatures were still obsessed with guiding her onto the path of cultivation. Why?
If Guiyan wasn’t a fox demon, why was there a statue of the Jade Fox in the Ancestral Hall?
Shen Su’s confusion deepened, but Wei Nanyi had already begun running her fingers along the stone walls. Shen Su suppressed her questions, trusting Wei Nanyi implicitly. She believed that if Wei Nanyi said something, there must be a good reason behind it.
The place where Shen Su and Wei Nanyi had fallen resembled a tomb chamber, surrounded by stone walls carved with obscure symbols. Shen Su could barely make out some that resembled foxes.
Oil lamps hung from the walls, their bowls empty, yet the flames burned steadily, emitting a faint fragrance and wisps of pale green mist.
As Shen Su gazed in fascination, Wei Nanyi called out, “Miss Shen, touch the stone wall.”
Shen Su obeyed instantly. When Wei Nanyi asked her to touch the wall, she immediately reached out and touched it.
The raised edges of the stone wall were as sharp as blades, easily slicing open Shen Su’s finger. Just as she was about to cover the wound, she noticed that the demon soul within Wei Nanyi remained still, while her bl00d flowed into the stone wall.
As her bl00d flowed into the stone wall, the patterns on its surface glowed brighter, while the lantern’s light dimmed significantly. The thin mist transformed into ethereal fox silhouettes, which streamed deeper into the tomb.
Shen Su numbly withdrew her hand, only then realizing there was no wound on her fingertip.
The fox silhouettes multiplied before her eyes, growing increasingly impatient that she wasn’t following. Two of them darted toward her, seizing the hems of her robes on either side and tugging her deeper into the tomb.
Still cradling Wei Nanyi in her arms, Shen Su was abruptly pulled forward, dragging Wei Nanyi along with her. Wei Nanyi swayed, her breathing unsteady. “Miss Shen, we shouldn’t move. The Pixiang Mirror Dragon Formation is one of the most formidable formations in the entire Cultivation World. My current…Â cough, cough… my current abilities can’t detect the exit. If Xu’er can’t find us, we might be trapped here to die. Staying at the Formation Gate will make it easier for her to locate us.”
Wei Nanyi seemed completely oblivious to the changes occurring within the tomb.
Shen Su pointed at the fox silhouettes tugging her forward. “Madam, can’t you see them?”
