Flirting with the Villain's Mother - Chapter 20
Clutching the white-furred rabbit in her arms, Shen Su sprinted back the way they had come. The Mantis Demon gritted its teeth and followed, unable to resist the allure of the Jade Marrow.
Because of the Jade Marrow’s connection to their bloodline, the arrows bypassed Shen Su and Wei Nanyi, instead repeatedly targeting the Mantis Demon behind them. Shen Su now understood why Wei Nanyi had urged her to retreat: knowing Shen Su was no match for the demon, Wei Nanyi intended to use the tomb’s Formation to kill it.
The Mantis Demon’s razor-sharp legs slammed into the stone floor, creating a fissure that raced toward Shen Su’s feet.
Hearing the thunderous rumble, Shen Su glanced back at the encroaching crack. With a nimble leap, she surged forward, planting one foot against the stone wall. Invisible spiritual power clung tightly to the wall beneath her foot, allowing her to move freely along its surface. Shen Su’s adaptability was remarkable; after just two light steps, she had adjusted completely. But the rabbit in her arms slipped and tumbled out.
With lightning reflexes, Shen Su scooped up the rabbit and accelerated, darting forward like a gust of wind.
Fortunately, Wei Nanyi had transformed into a palm-sized rabbit. If she had reverted to her white horse form, their escape would have been much more difficult.
“Shen Su, give me the Jade Marrow!” the Mantis Demon roared behind them, unwilling to concede. Shen Su glanced back briefly. The once fearsome Mantis Demon now looked utterly wretched, his body continuously eroded by arrows wreathed in Demon Fire. Cracks had begun to appear in his scorched flesh, his body smeared with a mixture of thick, dark green liquid and amber-colored honey, with patches of charred blackness—a revolting sight.
Shen Su clutched the white-furred rabbit in her arms even tighter.
Perhaps her grip was too firm. The rabbit struggled in her palm, its soft fur brushing against her skin. Shen Su swayed slightly. “Madam, please stay still.”
“Suffocating,” a faint voice murmured. Shen Su froze, glancing down. The fissure torn open by the Mantis Demon had stopped widening. She leaped down, landing back on the stone floor, and tucked the rabbit into her arms again. This time, she loosened the collar of her outer robe, allowing Wei Nanyi’s front paws to grip her lapels and her head to peek out.
The rabbit’s front paws clutched tightly at Shen Su’s outer robe, its voice trembling with shock. “Miss Shen, you can hear me?”
The jade tiger Shen Su had forced into its mouth still occupied its cheeks, making them bulge roundly. Its soft, long fur brushed against Shen Su’s skin through the fabric, tickling her.
Shen Su knew Wei Nanyi was currently blind and mute. Even if she spoke, no one else could hear her—but Shen Su could.
For some inexplicable reason, she felt a surge of pride.
“Of course!” Shen Su replied firmly.
Wei Nanyi’s furry head tilted slightly, her long, upright ears unconsciously brushing against Shen Su’s jaw. The soft fur repeatedly tickled Shen Su’s senses until she finally couldn’t resist reaching out to pinch one of those long rabbit ears.
Wei Nanyi was a white-furred rabbit, but after Shen Su pinched her ear, a faint blush of crimson appeared among the white fur. “Miss Shen, what are you doing?”
Shen Su couldn’t think of a reply. She had simply been compelled to touch those long, furry ears.
But she couldn’t exactly tell Wei Nanyi, “Your ears made me do it.” Shen Su coughed twice, her face flushed crimson, still struggling to explain. She bit her fingertip again and offered the bleeding digit to the rabbit. “Ahem, Madam, please drink some bl00d.”
The rabbit turned its head away. “Miss Shen, please don’t hurt yourself anymore. You’ve already obtained the tomb’s treasure and inherited your ancestor’s legacy. The power of Miss Guiyan within the tomb chamber is gradually dissipating. Without that suppression, the demon soul within me will resurface and corrode your body. If anyone with ill intentions were to notice, your secret would be exposed.”
But who could possibly be watching? Besides the two of them, only the Mantis Demon, its face scarred by Demon Fire, remained.
Wei Nanyi was wary of the Mantis Demon.
Indeed, such a secret getting out would be disastrous. Yet, as Wei Nanyi had pointed out, once Shen Su was injured, the demon souls would crave her bl00d even more than Wei Nanyi herself. The Mirror Quilt’s residual power still suppressed them now, but what would happen once they left the tomb?
Moreover… what if Wei Nanyi didn’t transform into human form before Jiang Xu saw her drinking bl00d? Then Shen Su would have no way to explain herself. Though she possessed cultivation, Jiang Xu could still snap her neck at any moment.
Jiang Xu was far more terrifying than any demon soul.
Shen Su pressed her fingers, forcing more bl00d to flow, and then stuffed them into the rabbit’s mouth. “Then you need to drink more while the demon souls haven’t appeared yet.”
Her fingers brushed against the warm jade tiger and the rabbit’s delicate tongue. The soft, pink tip grazed her fingertip, sending a tingling sensation through her body. A wave of heat surged to her chest, as if it could pierce through her flesh and envelop the little rabbit drinking her bl00d.
Too itchy, too hot.
Shen Su hastily withdrew her hand, but this time the rabbit held her wrist. Its eyes were bloodshot, as if they could weep tears of bl00d. One paw gripped Shen Su’s sleeve, while the other pressed down on her wrist. The rabbit tilted its head slightly, repeatedly extending its pink tongue to lick Shen Su’s fingertip.
Shen Su wanted to pull away, and it wouldn’t have been difficult. But the rabbit’s icy touch on her wrist instantly chilled her to the core. She shivered, the strength in her wrist draining away as if it had been sucked dry.
Seeing Wei Nanyi’s obvious loss of control, Shen Su suddenly understood.
No wonder Wei Nanyi had been so reluctant to drink her bl00d. It wasn’t just demonic creatures who coveted the Mirror Quilt bloodline; even living beings couldn’t resist its allure. Wei Nanyi feared she would develop an uncontrollable craving for Shen Su’s bl00d.
Shen Su lowered her gaze. The rabbit’s tongue was a delicate cherry pink, warm and moist. Its wet tip circled her fingertip, trying to lick up more droplets of bl00d.
The dampness on her fingertip sent a scorching heat through her body.
The tunnel was already stifling, but now even Shen Su’s breath felt scalding.
That tiny, pink rabbit tongue looks so soft…
Shen Su exhaled a heavy breath. “Madam, isn’t Jade Marrow supposed to absorb spiritual Qi? How can it protect us?”
Shen Su’s voice finally snapped Wei Nanyi back to her senses. She released Shen Su’s finger and pulled her front paws back to grip Shen Su’s sleeve. As if ashamed of her momentary greed, she tucked her rabbit head back slightly, her voice muffled. “The Jade Marrow isn’t protecting us—it’s protecting Miss Shen. I’m just guessing, but Miss Guiyan was very possessive of her belongings. Since this Jade Marrow was left for her descendants, she must have tampered with it. The Jade Marrow recognizes Miss Shen’s bloodline.”
She paused, then added, “Even if the Mantis Demon obtained the Jade Marrow, he wouldn’t be able to use it. Right now, only Miss Shen can wield its power. The Jade Marrow is a supreme treasure, and such treasures naturally protect their chosen masters.”
Wei Nanyi seemed to remember something, her head slowly emerging again. “Miss Shen, extend your injured hand.”
Wei Nanyi isn’t planning to drink my bl00d again, is she? Shen Su thought darkly, inwardly cursing the Mirror Quilt bloodline for being so alluring. She reluctantly extended her fingers. However, Wei Nanyi didn’t bite her this time. Instead, she spat out the jade tiger. The tiger landed in Shen Su’s palm, emitting a radiant white light that enveloped her wound. As the light faded, the wound had completely healed.
My ancestor truly blessed her descendants, Shen Su mused. Even though Mirror Quilt placed a bloodline restriction on her descendants, she still left behind some remarkable treasures—even if the Jade Marrow originally belonged to the Linxian Mountain Gate.
