Forbidden Deep Affection (GL) - Chapter 14
Chapter 14
When they went downstairs for breakfast, they ran into the owner’s wife.
The owner’s wife asked how they slept last night.
“Not good, not good at all,” Ming Shuang replied wearily, her eyes full of exhaustion. She rubbed her backside and glared at Ye Ting Shuang resentfully.
“I’m so sorry. You haven’t had breakfast yet, right? I’ll make sandwiches for you,” the owner’s wife said.
“Thanks,” Ming Shuang said, brightening up. She kept praising, “Your cooking is amazing. Last night’s dinner was so good I dreamed about it. You’re already so beautiful, and your cooking is incredible. You’re an amazing owner!”
The owner’s wife laughed heartily, called Ming Shuang even prettier, and went happily to make sandwiches.
Ye Ting Shuang picked up a sandwich loaded with ingredients and felt stunned, thinking she couldn’t possibly bite into it. “This big?” she asked.
Ming Shuang waved at the owner’s wife, gave a thumbs-up, and got a hearty thumbs-up in return.
“Too enthusiastic, can’t help it,” Ming Shuang said, opened her mouth wide, took a big bite, and exclaimed, “Mmm, so satisfying!”
At that moment, her perfect image crumbled in Ye Ting Shuang’s mind.
“Eat. The owner’s wife is watching. If you don’t, she’ll think you don’t like it,” Ming Shuang urged.
Ye Ting Shuang opened her mouth, tested it at her lips, then stretched her mouth wide, took a bite, filled her whole mouth, and chewed slowly.
Seeing this, Ming Shuang laughed while watching her eat and took another big bite herself.
They looked at each other’s silly faces, which made the meal more enjoyable.
After eating, they went upstairs to pack. Someone came down the stairs, so Ye Ting Shuang stopped at the corner to let them pass.
“Hey, wait,” Ming Shuang said, grabbing her arm. She noticed some salad dressing on Ye Ting Shuang’s lip and wiped it off with her hand.
Ye Ting Shuang glanced at her and continued upstairs.
“You could at least say thanks,” Ming Shuang said, looking at the dressing on her finger. She licked it, took a sip, and climbed two steps at a time, saying, “Wait for me! Why so fast? Rushing to lose money?”
They put their luggage in the car. Ming Shuang claimed she didn’t sleep well last night and told Ye Ting Shuang to drive.
Ye Ting Shuang gave her an unhappy glance but took the keys. Someone from the second floor shouted, “Sisters, are you leaving now?”
“Yeah,” Ming Shuang replied, looking up.
“Wait for me!” the voice called.
Minutes later, Cola ran out, holding her phone, and looked at them expectantly. “Can I add you on WeChat? We’re heading to Vegas this afternoon too. Maybe we’ll meet again.”
“Sure,” Ming Shuang said, adding her quickly.
“Lily姐?” Cola asked, looking at Ye Ting Shuang hopefully.
“I don’t use WeChat much; it’s not useful. Adding her is enough. She won’t leave me these few days,” Ye Ting Shuang said.
“Alright, see you in Vegas,” Cola said, waving with a smile.
On the road, Ming Shuang asked, “You didn’t want to add her?”
“Didn’t I say? If it’s for contacting these few days, adding you is enough,” Ye Ting Shuang replied.
“But you have a secondary WeChat account. Adding her wouldn’t be a hassle. What if the girl thinks you didn’t want to add her and feels hurt?” Ming Shuang said.
◢
“We’re just passing acquaintances. She wouldn’t get hurt over something so small, would she? If she does, it means she’s not strong enough. It’s a chance to toughen her up and learn the world’s harshness—not everything goes as she hopes,” Ye Ting Shuang said.
Ming Shuang was speechless!
It was a clear-headed comment, but it felt a bit cold.
“Hey, let’s talk on your main WeChat account?” Ming Shuang suggested.
“The secondary one works fine. It connects us; who cares if it’s main or not?” Ye Ting Shuang replied.
True, but Ming Shuang felt a bit frustrated. She opened the sunroof, let the wind blow in, and felt better.
After a while, Ming Shuang rubbed her arms, chilled by the wind, and closed the sunroof. She heard Ye Ting Shuang say, “Open a box of milk for me.”
“Drink, drink, always drinking. You’re practically marinated in it,” Ming Shuang grumbled, grabbed the milk, inserted the straw, and handed it to her.
“What?” Ye Ting Shuang asked, not understanding, and took it with one hand.
“Nothing, just drink,” Ming Shuang said.
Ming Shuang stared at her, lost in thought, unable to figure out what this woman was thinking. She always gave off a distant yet close vibe.
Sometimes, Ming Shuang thought this woman was obsessed with her, using little tricks to seduce her.
Other times, she saw an unexpected coldness in her, an almost inhuman clarity, like an icy barrier keeping everyone at a distance, unreachable.
“What’s the plan today?” Ming Shuang asked, unable to figure her out and deciding to stop guessing her thoughts. Enjoying the trip mattered most.
“We’ll arrive this afternoon. The hotel’s booked. After dinner, we can go play,” Ye Ting Shuang said.
“Finally,” Ming Shuang sighed. A one-day trip stretched to three. “Today seems smooth, but I’ve got a bad feeling. What if we don’t make it again?”
“Don’t jinx it,” Ye Ting Shuang warned.
The desert highway offered wide views, and Ming Shuang enjoyed the scenery happily. Suddenly, she asked, puzzled, “Why’s there smoke ahead… wait, it’s a car smoking!”
The car pulled over, and Ye Ting Shuang quickly turned it off and got out. She opened the hood, saw smoke from the exhaust pipe, and smelled a foul gasoline odor. She checked the oily grime on the pipe and said, “The oil’s burning.”
“Can you fix it?” Ming Shuang asked.
Ye Ting Shuang shook her head and asked, “You?”
“Nope,” Ming Shuang said, pulling out her phone. “Let’s call someone.”
After calling a nearby repair shop and talking to the rental agency, they waited.
Ming Shuang got tired of standing, squatted, and soon her legs went numb. She lay on the grass behind.
Ye Ting Shuang saw her so carefree, walked over, looked down, and asked, “Comfy?”
“Super comfy. Wanna try? Lie on the grass, feel refreshed,” Ming Shuang said, patting the spot beside her.
Ye Ting Shuang turned, watching the car’s condition.
“It’s fine, just a small issue. If it explodes, we’ll have company on the road to the afterlife,” Ming Shuang teased.
“Shut up, you jinx. You’re a real jinx,” Ye Ting Shuang said.
Ming Shuang realized her casual words actually came true.
Total jinx.
“God!” Ming Shuang stood up, spread her arms, and shouted to the sky, “Rain down some dollars! And a villa, a fancy car, and two hundred fair-skinned, long-legged, gorgeous maids! Please!”
Ye Ting Shuang said, “You sure you’re asking God and not the King of Hell? I can burn those for you later.”
Ming Shuang fell silent.
