Forced to Love (GL) - Chapter 64
The moment Qin Sui tapped her fingertip, the dark screen lit up again.
Against the backdrop of Qin Sui’s last call, the light reflected on her chin, passing through in thin strands and landing at the corner of her lips.
Like a poppy blooming after the mist was parted, red and striking, impossible to look away from.
Lingxi looked at her. The emotions that had surged up a second ago strangely faded away.
She didn’t answer her but spoke after a moment, “A toast from me.” Lingxi raised the wine in her hand slightly and pushed it toward her. “Will you drink?”
Qin Sui smiled again, leaned forward slightly, and reached out her hand.
Lingxi lowered her gaze, looking at the glass Qin Sui had placed on the table. Just as she saw it clearly, something pressed against her fingertips.
A cool sensation slipped between her fingers.
While Lingxi was momentarily distracted, the glass in her hand was taken by Qin Sui.
Qin Sui also raised the glass toward Lingxi and then drank from the same spot where Lingxi had sipped.
Lingxi watched her tilting her head back, the slow movement of her throat as she swallowed, the shimmer on her red lips after drinking, and the way she smiled while locking eyes with her.
The surroundings were dim, half of her face hidden in shadows, yet to Lingxi, she seemed like a flame, every move pulling her in.
Lingxi stared at her for a long time before saying, “Your hand is so cold.”
“Mm, the air conditioning is too strong.”
She put down the glass and leaned back.
Lingxi took off her small suit jacket, walked around the round table in front of the booth, and came to her side.
Qin Sui looked up at her. She didn’t move her hands from her lap but leaned forward slightly, leaving a bit of space between her and the leather sofa behind.
Lingxi draped the jacket over her shoulders. The tips of Qin Sui’s hair brushed against Lingxi’s fingertips lightly.
It tickled.
“Have you been looking at me for a long time?” Qin Sui suddenly asked.
Lingxi’s hand paused briefly before she adjusted the jacket over her shoulders. “For a little while.”
Qin Sui nodded as if she expected this. “No wonder you’re the young boss of the Wei family.”
Lingxi asked, “What do you mean?”
“Sharp observer. Just a short glance, and you noticed I don’t accept just any drink.”
“You wouldn’t take just any drink in the first place.” Lingxi remained calm and glanced at the empty seat beside her. “No one with you?”
Qin Sui chuckled. “Even if someone was here, they would stop once they saw you coming.”
She tilted her chin slightly, gesturing toward the people coming out of the dance floor. They smiled politely at Lingxi before moving to the scattered seats nearby.
Lingxi sat beside her. “Am I that scary?”
Qin Sui, still draped in her jacket, leaned back into the soft sofa, shifted to a more comfortable position, rested her head on her hand, and thought for a moment. “Maybe I’m the scary one.”
Lingxi turned at the sound of her voice, finding her figure enveloped in shadows. Even so, she could still make out her features.
Clear brows, a straight nose, slightly curved lips—so simple, yet etched deeply in her heart.
Why did she feel so familiar? Lingxi was momentarily lost.
After a long silence, Qin Sui asked, “Do I look good?”
“You do.”
Qin Sui asked again, “How good?”
Brilliant lights flashed again and again in Lingxi’s eyes, but she kept looking at her. After a moment, she exhaled some warm breath. “Not even the brightest light can compare to you.”
The noise around them seemed to fade, separating them from the lively surroundings.
Qin Sui half-smiled, her fingertips brushing along the edge of her phone. “Hmm, you’re getting better at sweet-talking.”
“Did Miss Yu teach you, or did you learn it yourself?”
Lingxi’s gaze didn’t waver. “It’s just what I want to say when I see you.” She paused before adding, “You look tired.”
Qin Sui’s lips curled slightly. “I am. The film crew is too far from here.”
Lingxi lowered her gaze slightly. “You didn’t even tell me you were coming.”
“And if I did?” Qin Sui’s voice was soft. “Would you not avoid me?”
“I didn’t avoid you.” Lingxi’s brows moved slightly as she denied it.
She tilted her body slightly, looking down as if lost in thought.
Qin Sui could see the loosely tied hair at the back of her head, with a few stray strands brushing against the collar of her black shirt as the cold breeze stirred them.
It seemed like she had just come from work, not even having time to change.
“Really?”
Qin Sui lazily lifted her gaze.
Lingxi gave a small hum. “Even though you didn’t tell me, I still came.”
“If I hadn’t come tonight, would you still have come?”
When Qin Sui asked this, she chuckled helplessly at herself.
Since when did she start caring about these small details?
“No.”
Lingxi answered without hesitation.
Qin Sui half-narrowed her eyes, smiling slightly. Just then, her phone lit up on her lap.
She lifted it slightly, glancing at the screen from an angle where she could see it clearly.
“Miss Wei,” Qin Sui called her. “I have to go.”
“Back to the set?” Lingxi frowned slightly, then added, “This late?”
“Mm, I have scenes tomorrow.”
Qin Sui said it casually, as if it wasn’t almost midnight, as if she wasn’t the one with an early shoot.
She waited calmly for Lingxi’s response.
After a long pause, Lingxi said, “Come to my place for the night. Leave in the morning?”
Qin Sui tapped the side of her phone but didn’t press hard. “And in the morning?”
Lingxi’s gaze fell on the light passing through beside her, blurring her vision. “In the morning, I’ll have someone drive you to the set?”
Qin Sui looked at her for a while before slowly saying, “Someone else again?”
Lingxi didn’t respond immediately. While she was thinking, Qin Sui had already raised her hand and stood up.
The assistant, who had been waiting at a distance since Lingxi arrived, quickly approached.
“Qin Jie,” Cheng Ye stood in front of Qin Sui.
“Mm, is the car here?”
“Yes, it’s waiting at the entrance.”
Qin Sui nodded slightly, then turned back to Lingxi. Just then, the dance floor lights flared brightly, pulsing with the energetic music.
The colorful lights reflected on their faces, painting a vivid scene behind them.
Lingxi stood up, parting her lips to say something.
But before she could, Qin Sui leaned in, her red lips brushing close but just missing her cheek. She whispered in her ear:
“Too bad. I have a shoot early in the morning.”
Warm breath tickled Lingxi’s ear, chasing away the cool air from before.
Just like how her emotions fluctuated—settling when she saw her, surging when she was about to leave.
Qin Sui laughed softly, her voice cool and crisp, carrying a hint of chill.
“Qin Sui.”
“Miss Wei is getting used to calling my name.”
Qin Sui took a step back, picked up the glass Lingxi had left on the table, and took another sip from where she had.
“It’s late. Going back now isn’t safe.”
Lingxi reached out to grab her hand but caught only the corner of the jacket draped over her shoulders.
Qin Sui crossed her arms, shifting slightly to return the jacket to her.
And then, Qin Sui left.
Lingxi stood still. The sound that had been cut off returned, the peak of the party’s atmosphere drowning her again.
Under the flashing lights, she realized—it was already past midnight.
Damn it.
