- Forced to Pretend to Be an A and Marry the Best Actress Omega
- Chapter 12 - The rapidly descending figure resembled shattered paper fragments, seemingly about to be torn apart by the air currents...
In that instant, the surge of adrenaline released a burst of scent—sweet and bitter—chaotically filling the small cabin.
It was the smell of alcohol, the same scent Jiang Lingyu had detected on Xu Mifei’s coat earlier. The turbulence forced Jiang Lingyu’s eyes shut uncomfortably, a stinging sensation spreading from her eye sockets to her nose, jaw, and even the fingers Xu Mifei had touched.
When the cabin door closed, Jiang Lingyu slammed the open-door button, only to be met with a cold mechanical voice: “Protection protocol activated. Door cannot be opened.”
She frantically pressed the close button, switching to manual pilot mode, no longer paying attention to the high-altitude drones flashing incessantly.
The moment Xu Mifei jumped, the tightness in Jiang Lingyu’s heart reached its peak—she felt suffocated, oxygen-deprived.
Fear became secondary. In that instant, all she saw were the scenes of her life since arriving in this world—the piercing, the mocking, the bizarre, Jiang Lingyu’s presence, and those pheromones… those intoxicating pheromones, unique to Jiang Lingyu alone.
She was probably going to fall to her death—already experiencing her life flashing before her eyes.
The wind was unbearably cold. Xu Mifei was surprised she could still feel the chill, her body and heart wrapped in icy water, damp and freezing. An indescribable loneliness and fear finally surged forth—if she died, could she go back?
To the people here, it would be as if she had never existed, right?
She would crash onto the ground, her face unrecognizable. Should Jiang Lingyu be relieved that this scum was finally gone—?
The sounds of chaos, panicked crowds, and arguments grew louder. Xu Mifei knew she was about to hit the ground.
“Thud—”
A dull, numbing pain shot through Xu Mifei’s back. A soft air cushion had caught her mid-air, and the roof of a police car swiftly opened. As Xu Mifei fell inside, the vehicle nearly lifted off the ground.
Police officers in aerial rescue uniforms and emergency doctors quickly surrounded her. Xu Mifei coughed violently as Lu Jiguang rushed over in panic, supporting her, “Don’t scare me like this, A-Fei, A-Fei! What were you thinking? Were you trying to kill yourself?”
She was safe.
Her entire body felt as if it had been dragged out of water, but only now did Xu Mifei feel her body temperature and heartbeat return. Hesitantly, she reached up and touched the back of her neck along the carotid artery.
Beneath the smooth skin was a strong, vibrant pulse. Pressing lightly, a sour, aching pain made her let out a muffled groan. The taste of salt and bitterness lingered on her lips.
Unbeknownst to her, her face was already streaked with tears.
“I’m fine,” Xu Mifei turned to look at Lu Jiguang. “Jiang Lingyu…”
“How can you still worry about others at a time like this?” The police chief approached with a stern face. “The big star Jiang Lingyu was driving recklessly and parked illegally. Fortunately, she called us herself and admitted her mistake. If it weren’t for the new wind-buffering device on you, do you think you’d still be alive right now?”
Lu Jiguang, still shaken, removed the small square bag strapped to Xu Mifei’s back, “Thank goodness you remembered to bring this…”
The use of escape devices is one of the mandatory courses in university. This small square pack, officially called a pneumatic cushioning backpack, provides a buffer during falls to increase rescue time. It was mass-distributed by Lu Jiguang’s company three months ago.
“I’m fine now. Take me back.”
Xu Mifei was still catching her breath. The traffic in the air, briefly disrupted by the accident, had already resumed its smooth flow, and that Flyer was long gone.
She only learned from the police that Jiang Lingyu had been escorted away by the security team—likely to avoid public repercussions if an omega suffered from shock. Xu Mifei also went through the standard procedures, undergoing a checkup at another hospital before being allowed to return home.
“Don’t check Touchbo. Once the news dies down, it’ll be fine. People forget quickly. Just go home and sleep.” Lu Jiguang, uneasy about her dazed state, escorted her back and advised, “If you really don’t feel up to it, I can talk to Director Jin and cancel—”
Who knows what kind of argument she had with that actress Jiang? How could she just watch her jump like that? Lu Jiguang didn’t dare ask, but she felt it was better for the two of them not to appear on the same show in this state.
“No need. I’ll go,” Xu Mifei said.
Standing in the empty, dimly lit villa, Xu Mifei sighed. She really needed to order a companion cooking robot—if such a thing existed.
Otherwise, every time she returned here alone, she’d miss the days when she could still go downstairs and enjoy the warmth of a bustling home.
Only one pair of shoes sat at the entrance. Jiang Lingyu hadn’t come back, and there were no messages on her phone. Xu Mifei chose not to disturb her.
Turning off the lights, she retreated to her room in the darkness and let herself sink into sleep.
Outside the villa, a car slowly pulled up.
The person inside didn’t roll down the window, watching as the bedroom light on the second floor went out before lowering her gaze, concealing the faint flicker of regret in her eyes.
“You softened,” Song Nian observed from the rearview mirror, catching Jiang Lingyu’s expression. “Running three red lights straight into the path of the aerial rescue team—what were you thinking? A mutual demise?” The last command the Flyer received was to self-destruct, set to activate in moments. If the police chief had been five seconds later…
Jiang Lingyu replied coldly, “I panicked and pressed the wrong button.”
Song Nian laughed. “Lingyu, you were first place in the Flyer division during the inter-school league.” Later, after she presented as an omega, Jiang Wanxiang completely reshaped her life.
“I’ve long forgotten.” Jiang Lingyu closed her eyes wearily, rubbing her fingertips together lightly. “Let’s go.”
–
For the first time in days, Xu Mifei finally got proper rest. The wound on her hand began to truly scab over, forming a slightly raised, occasionally itchy dark red patch on her palm.
She deliberately avoided social media, knowing the online world must still be in chaos. Usually, at a certain point, the Xu family’s PR team would step in to control the narrative.
Of course, that “certain point” depended on whether the Xu family’s reputation and interests were at stake. If it was just Xu Mifei’s own interests being harmed, the family couldn’t be bothered to intervene.
Jiang Lingyu hadn’t come home, nor had she contacted her. Every time Xu Mifei opened their chat, wanting to ask, she’d remember the video Zhou Siwu had sent her.
Her vision darkened. What a mess this was.
That day, Xu Mifei changed out of her loungewear, dressed herself neatly, applied beautiful makeup, and took a taxi to the Yanjinda Hotel based on the address Lu Jiguang had sent her.
The address was so familiar, the building grand and imposing, resplendent and luxurious, with all amenities for food, clothing, lodging, and travel—it was unmistakably the same hotel where Xu Mifei had woken up back then.
This was one of the Xu family’s properties. The original owner had brought Jiang Lingyu here to drug and bite her, had taken Yu Wei here for illicit affairs, and had even chosen their own hotel for all of it. No wonder even Qin Lu had worn an expression of disdain when she entered.
The production team of Priority of Love was scrambling to fill a last-minute vacancy. The show was set to premiere tomorrow, so today they had arranged for the guests to get acquainted with each other and meet with key staff members. Starting from the fourth episode, the show’s danger level would increase, so advance notice was necessary.
Xu Mifei’s props team was also among the invitees. Due to traffic, she arrived slightly late by two minutes.
“The props team leader is Hu Yigui. She knows you got in through connections and doesn’t like you, so be careful. Keep a low profile—don’t slam tables or lose your temper. As for Lin Su and He Yanzhen, I don’t need to tell you—they’re the model couple. Just stay composed, and don’t lose it when you see Jiang Lingyu. They’re all celebrities, so they probably won’t be too punctual. Being a minute or two late won’t matter,” Lu Jiguang had sent her a voice message before she arrived.
Xu Mifei took a deep breath, straightened her coat, and pushed open the door to the private room.
The entire room, packed with people, fell silent as all eyes turned toward her. The director’s team, the props team, and the filming crew aside, all six guests at the main table had actually arrived on time, seated around it with only two empty spots left.
At the center of the head table sat Jiang Lingyu, whom she hadn’t seen in two days, with Xu Wanzhi beside her.
Next to Xu Wanzhi was one empty seat.
The other empty seat was sandwiched between the famously model couple, Lin Su and He Yanzhen. It was unclear which unlucky soul was destined to be the lucky one to fill it.
Xu Mifei: “…” Do I really have no choice but to be the filling in this sandwich?
