- Chapter 14 - When Xu Mifei Exited the Booth, She Let Out a Sigh of Relief and Instinctively Reached for the Back of Her Neck.
As Xu Mifei stepped out of the private room, she let out a sigh of relief and instinctively reached for the back of her neck.
It was truly strange.
When Jiang Lingyu had called her name, her first sensation wasn’t the pounding of her heart in her chest but the pulse at the back of her neck—where no scent gland had ever formed—throbbing as though it had a life of its own.
She pressed a hand to her forehead. It was cool. She wasn’t feverish, nor had she been drinking, yet she felt slightly dizzy as she walked out.
“You’re not bad. I didn’t believe Lu Jiguang when she said you were actually quite skilled… especially since you don’t even have a diploma,” Hu Yigui remarked as she walked out alongside her. “We have a test at four in the morning tomorrow. Personal issues shouldn’t interfere with work in my team.”
Her gaze lingered on Xu Mifei’s hands and abdomen, clearly having already discerned her physical condition.
“They won’t,” Xu Mifei replied with a bitter smile. The original owner of this body had once been a top student in stage design, but she had strayed from the path and dropped out midway, squandering her talent.
Xu Mifei was different. She would combine the original owner’s knowledge with her own and seize this opportunity firmly.
Though waking up at such an ungodly hour was a bit much. The props team had to test the equipment early, and she still needed to familiarize herself with the evening’s procedures, leaving her sleep time repeatedly compressed.
At the thought of this, Xu Mifei could only focus on hurrying back to sleep.
The other guests had also emerged, all having been arranged to stay at a hotel on the neighboring island for the night.
When Jiang Lingyu approached, the other guests instinctively stepped aside, giving her space. Xu Wanzhi wanted to stay by Jiang Lingyu’s side, but He Yanzhen pulled her away.
Xu Mifei couldn’t help but take a step back, her back pressing against the cold wall as she watched Jiang Lingyu stop right in front of her.
Jiang Lingyu stood still, her gaze fixed on Xu Mifei, her breathing steady, her eyes like ancient, unmelting shards of ice.
Faint shadows lingered beneath her eyes.
Over the past two days, the video of Xu Mifei jumping from the plane had spread like wildfire online. Jiang Lingyu’s new agent hadn’t yet been assigned, and the company’s PR department remained silent as if dead, ignoring all the vitriol directed at Xu Mifei.
None of the insults were even meant for her.
…Sympathy? Impossible. Jiang Lingyu recalled the moment Xu Mifei had entered the room, effortlessly stealing everyone’s attention.
Was she anxious? No. Jiang Lingyu felt no such turmoil. Why would she be anxious over someone who had tormented her?
Yet, every time she closed her eyes these past two days, the image of Xu Mifei jumping replayed in her mind.
Jiang Lingyu didn’t understand why. She only felt that something had slipped beyond her control in that moment—her heartbeat had gone wild midair.
Under the weight of the suffocating atmosphere, Xu Mifei closed her eyes briefly, sensing the temperature at the back of her neck rising noticeably. She wasn’t sure if Jiang Lingyu was releasing pheromones again—she couldn’t smell them, but her body seemed to react regardless.
Jiang Lingyu reached out and lifted Xu Mifei’s hand, palm facing upward, revealing the scabbed wound.
“You haven’t been to Song Nian to change your dressing these past few days.”
Out of the corner of her eye, Xu Mifei spotted Director Jin, the last to exit, and realized Jiang Lingyu was merely fulfilling her contractual obligations in front of outsiders. Lowering her gaze, she replied, “The ointment at home works well. It’s almost healed.”
Director Jin let out a surprised “Huh,” thinking to himself that these two didn’t seem as coercive as the rumors suggested—they actually appeared quite affectionate. So he considerately said, “Lingyu, why don’t you go home and rest today? There’s no strict requirement for you to stay.”
“No need! Absolutely no need, Director. Neither Lingyu nor I would let personal matters interfere with work,” Xu Mifei hastily replied. She knew Jiang Lingyu didn’t want to stay with her and wouldn’t force the issue.
“Right, Lingyu—”
Her hand suddenly dropped as Jiang Lingyu abruptly let go without warning, refusing to even glance at her before walking away.
Jin Chiyu hesitated for a moment before following.
Xu Mifei rubbed her wrist silently and left the hotel without another word.
The heart of a beautiful omega was as unfathomable as the ocean—her moods shifted faster than pages turning.
Oh—she suddenly realized she’d forgotten something important. She hadn’t asked Jiang Lingyu when her Heat was. She needed to know the timing so she could adjust the program schedule accordingly.
The next day, Xu Mifei was jolted awake by her alarm at three in the morning.
After returning, she had immediately reviewed the production team’s schedule documents until eleven. Her alarm, set for two, had blared for a full hour before finally rousing her. Staring at her pale, bloodless face in the mirror, she sighed.
Maybe she should buy a butler robot. The ones she’d seen in stores had arms made of gleaming metal—a slap from one would surely wake her up in a second.
But Xu Mifei was genuinely troubled. She didn’t know what to do about the video Zhou Siwu had sent her. Delete it? What good would that do? Zhou Siwu surely had backups. She might have to visit that den of extravagance again and demand that he erase everything related to Jiang Lingyu’s past.
The first three episodes of Priority of Love were filmed on Zezhou Island, with Lin Su and He Yanzhen serving as the newlywed innkeepers in a slow-living format. The fourth episode would shift to the more secluded Tuo Island, though the format remained undisclosed. The guests were to gather on Zezhou Island before departure.
The crew, however, was different.
The filming team had already gone ahead, but Xu Mifei boarded the familiar Flyer before dawn and finally understood why the props team had started testing at four.
“Will they be using this today?”
The Flyer was flying low, and she could clearly see test personnel below on the sea, with speedboats racing so fast that just looking at them made her feel seasick.
The documents she’d received only stated that the guests had to choose their method of reaching the island by nine.
Hu Yigui slapped the folder against Xu Mifei’s chest. “Read it in five minutes.”
“After this episode, we have to oversee and test all prop safety at maximum intensity to ensure the guests’ protection. They usually don’t go this hard.”
In other words, the props team had already rehearsed the program’s flow multiple times.
The document was mostly filled with checkmarks, indicating everything had been tested and was 100% safe. Xu Mifei’s gaze lingered on the blank space after Pheromone Concentration Safety Level, where a note in parentheses read, Awaiting further alpha testing.
As she flipped through the task list, Xu Mifei’s frown deepened.
“Worried? Five minutes are up.” Hu Yigui tapped the back of Xu Mifei’s hand and handed her the buffer device. The flyer ascended into the sky in an instant.
“If you’re worried, then do what you’re supposed to—let the safety data speak for itself.” Hu Yigui tilted her chin up. “Jump.”

At 8 a.m., when the Priority of Love livestream began, millions of viewers flooded in instantly.
The show had always been wildly popular, and Director Jin, wanting to avoid unnecessary drama, had quietly announced the four replacement guests at midnight the night before. This was to steer clear of the controversy surrounding Xu Mifei’s plane jump incident from two days prior. But fans still erupted.
This was supposed to be a show where guests experienced newlywed life!
Xu Mifei and Jiang Lingyu had just gotten engaged, and now Jiang Lingyu and Xu Wanzhi—the internet’s favorite couple—were joining a marriage-themed variety show? Wasn’t this the production team blatantly slapping Xu Mifei in the face and siding with the “healing couple”?
CP fans celebrated like it was New Year’s, calling friends to join in the support.
Director, you’ve earned VIP status with this move! I’ll buy your sponsors’ products till the day I die. Capitalists really have the sharpest eyes—who was Xu Mifei putting on a show for? Jumping out of a plane and calling people to film it, all staged.
Betting that after this show, Actress Jiang will break off the engagement with Xu Mifei, and the true lovers will finally be together, just like Lin Su and He Yanzhen. Hehe.
Agreed. Must-watch.
Within just five minutes of the guests making their appearance, the livestream viewership soared into the tens of millions.
Though everyone was dressed in identical outdoor jackets, even the plainest gear looked exceptionally high-end on them.
Jiang Lingyu stood side by side with Xu Wanzhi, maintaining a normal distance. Lin Su and He Yanzhen were greeting the camera, while Wen Yue and Shen Wansui were practically glued to each other, lost in their own world.
“Congratulations on gathering here. The theme of this episode is—[The Will of Love]. Please head to Taku Island for free exploration, trigger mission prompts, and complete tasks to earn points. Each night, we’ll tally the results. Whether you and your partner endure hardships or enjoy happiness is entirely up to you.”
“Viewers watching the broadcast and our dear guests, rest assured—all segments have been safety-tested and pose no life-threatening risks.”
“Now, you face your first choice: how to reach the island. Option one: a yacht—slower but safer. Option two: a high-altitude flyer—faster but with some risk. The time is now 8 a.m., and you must arrive by 9. Make your choice.”
In less than a minute, Lin Su and Shen Wansui, both alphas, raised their hands and said, “We’ll take the yacht. It’s just the beginning—better to play it safe.”
?
Wow, Director, you’re really going all out now? Isn’t Taku Island practically abandoned?
Ahhh! Why does this feel so different from the usual vibe? Look at Yuyu eyeing the flyer—does she want to take that route?
New fans, huh? Old fans know Yuyu is terrified of heights. She used to turn pale even during wire stunts.
“Lingyu, let’s take the yacht too. It’s better to stick with the group, and Teacher Lin and Sister Zhen are veterans of the show,” Xu Wanzhi whispered into Jiang Lingyu’s ear.
Jiang Lingyu tilted her head slightly to the side, unaccustomed to Xu Mifei’s proximity. She frowned at the yacht drifting on the sea surface: “The yacht won’t get there in an hour. I choose the high-altitude Flyer.”
“No.” Xu Wanzhi refused, quickly stepping forward to grasp Jiang Lingyu’s wrist. “That’s too dangerous, Lingyu. You’re afraid of heights!”
OMG she even knows this, she’s so in love.
Every time the healing CP appears together, I start screenshotting like crazy hahaha, thanks for the meal
Not to mention, isn’t this a single-person Flyer? Same specs as the one Peacock Fei jumped from, right? Is the production team riding the hype?
LMAO, does Director Jin even need to ride hype? Stop giving that heartless playgirl Alpha more attention, OK?
Jiang Lingyu pulled her wrist free from Xu Wanzhi’s grip and walked steadily toward the high-altitude Flyer.
It looked all too familiar, this Flyer.
As if wanting to confirm something, when she reached out, the hatch automatically opened.
She saw Xu Mifei holding a safety suit, her eyes tinged with faint helplessness, as if silently asking:
—How could it be you?
