- Chapter 15 - Xu Mi Fei in a Black Work Outfit, Black Boots, and a Neat Low Ponytail, with Cold White Skin
Xu Mifei was dressed in all-black work attire, with black boots and her dark hair tied into a neat low ponytail, her skin pale and cool. A communication device was clipped to her ear, and her utilitarian protective vest swayed slightly in the sea breeze, her tall, slender figure standing as straight as a poplar tree.
She effortlessly carried two buffer devices on her arm and stepped aside to make room.
“Welcome,” Xu Mifei said, her gaze sweeping past Jiang Lingyu before quickly moving away. She then gestured to the cameraman to adjust the angle.
The live chat erupted in shock—for a brief moment, the audience had caught a glimpse of Xu Mifei’s face.
How shameless can you be, following her all the way to the show? Just because you got engaged, do you think you own the omega now?
Did I see that right? Is that her????????
Director Jin, does your production team have any integrity? How much did Xu Mifei pay you to get her a spot as a staff member? What exactly is she even qualified to do?
She’s just embarrassing herself. The “Healing Couple” is already so sweet—what’s she even doing here?
Damn… if it weren’t for all that drama before, Xu Mifei’s looks would totally be my type—my dream Alpha.
Wake up! I used to be her fan, completely obsessed with those peach-blossom eyes, until I realized she’s just trash with zero Alpha ethics.
Xu Wanzhi frowned deeply, suppressing the urge to lash out in anger.
Her again?! Wasn’t it enough for Xu Mifei to just loiter around the props department and glance at the monitors? Did she really have to haunt the actual filming location like a ghost?!
But Xu Wanzhi had always maintained a gentle, delicate persona in front of the cameras, so she couldn’t afford to lose her composure.
Jiang Lingyu stepped into the flyer’s cabin, but Xu Wanzhi grabbed her arm. “Lingyu, don’t go. I don’t feel safe. You were just startled by the flyer yesterday—the production team must have set this up on purpose.”
No wonder her agent had warned her beforehand that Priority of Love always delivered explosive yet natural entertainment. They must have done their research—first the trending scandal, then this setup on the show. How could it not create drama?
Just as Jiang Lingyu frowned, Xu Mifei lazily extended her hand, tossing a buffer device toward Xu Wanzhi. The latter instinctively let go of Jiang Lingyu to catch it.
“Apologies, but for your safety, please put this on first. Also, for your protection, I’ll be assisting you.” Of course, Director Jin had also instructed her through the earpiece—”You’ll also be doubling as an NPC to drive the mission forward. Every staff member has to pull their weight.”
“Need help?” Xu Mifei still held one buffer device in her hand. The small, flat pack resembled a backpack with two straps—just wear it, and if someone fell unconscious during descent, it would automatically inflate for cushioning.
If conscious, pressing the red button on the strap would deploy a parachute for a safe landing. The buffer pack could be reused up to ten times, and Xu Mifei had already tested it that morning—no issues.
Xu Mifei moved closer to Jiang Lingyu.
Standing right behind her, she even tilted her head slightly to the side, deliberately avoiding Jiang Lingyu’s scent gland as a sign of respect.
Staring at an omega’s scent gland is impolite.
Yet, in this moment, Xu Mifei’s clear and cool voice fell beside Jiang Lingyu’s ear, carrying an inexplicable tingling sensation.
Her steady heartbeat began to race—a bodily warning of danger. Jiang Lingyu stared at the vest held between Xu Mifei’s hands.
Having been deceived by Xu Mifei too many times before, her body’s first reaction to Xu Mifei’s kindness was always fear.
But Xu Mifei didn’t move, as if waiting for her response.
“No need to trouble you. I’ll do it.” Xu Wanzhi noticed the one-hour timer had started without Jiang Lingyu backing out, realizing she was determined to take the flyer. After quickly donning the buffer device, she snatched the vest from Xu Mifei’s hands.
Xu Mifei stepped back, watching as Xu Wanzhi secured it properly on Jiang Lingyu before speaking into her earpiece: “We can go now.”
The flyer swiftly ascended, cruising along the aerial route.
During the twenty-minute flight, Xu Mifei didn’t utter a single word, standing as still as a statue. Xu Wanzhi and Jiang Lingyu, however, occasionally exchanged words. Since the cameras couldn’t capture Xu Mifei, the live chat began admiring the “healing couple’s” picturesque scenes.
Until the flyer started climbing, veering away from the normal air route.
Xu Wanzhi’s expression shifted when she noticed Jiang Lingyu’s face had grown paler. As another flyer carrying staff approached, Xu Mifei finally walked toward the cabin door.
“What are you doing? Are you leaving?” Xu Wanzhi suddenly realized Xu Mifei wasn’t accompanying them the entire way. Weren’t they supposed to be under her protection?
She should have known better than to trust such a half-hearted incompetent.
“I’m just staff. You’ll need to complete the mission on your own now. We’re approaching the landing point on Taku Island.”
Before leaving, Xu Mifei stepped in front of Jiang Lingyu.
She opened the cabin door.
At that moment, Jiang Lingyu felt the scene overlap with the time Xu Mifei had been about to jump.
Her hand instinctively reached out, as if to touch Xu Mifei.
The wind rushing through the open door slapped her cheeks harshly—they were too high up. A long-dormant discomfort churned in her stomach, and Jiang Lingyu’s eyelashes fluttered.
Xu Mifei stood by the door, deftly flipping a twisted buckle on Jiang Lingyu’s harness. “Forgot to mention—Xu Wanzhi did a terrible job dressing you.”
At this altitude, an impact from the airflow could dislodge the buckle, leading to a failed landing. This was a scenario the props team had tested for, and the reason Xu Mifei was here.
Her voice was low, her nimble fingers quickly checking every detail. With a tug, Jiang Lingyu was pulled two steps closer by the tightening harness, closing the distance between them.
“You’ll be fine. I’m right beside you,” Xu Mifei whispered, words meant only for her. “Don’t be afraid.”
With that, she pushed Jiang Lingyu back inside and leaped gracefully into the waiting flyer.
“Hey!!!”
Xu Wanzhi chased after her, shouting. When she glimpsed the drifting clouds and faint outline of the island below, her face also paled.
It was too high—even she felt uneasy.
The staff flyer hovered nearby, where Xu Mifei could be seen in full alert state.
Xu Wanzhi was well aware of her responsibilities as an alpha. She turned to Jiang Lingyu, concern etched on her face: “Yuyu, are you okay? Yuyu, the production team never said we had to jump. Let’s wait a bit longer—”
“Task countdown: thirty-five minutes. You have reached the designated location. Please parachute now. Eighty points will be awarded upon successful landing.”
Director Jin’s reminder echoed through the hidden speakers.
Jiang Lingyu’s expression stiffened. She closed her eyes tightly for a moment. Since Xu Mifei had already confirmed that both their landing cushioning devices were properly secured—
The wind whipped their hair wildly, yet even under the unforgiving close-up camera shots, the audience was utterly mesmerized.
This face was made for the silver screen! Her presence in variety shows is just unfair to everyone else
Mom won’t allow you to torture yourself like this!!! Yuyu, just forget about those eighty points—it’s not worth it! Seeing Yuyu struggle breaks my heart
When our Yuyu jumps, it’ll be like witnessing a goddess descend
Can you see the sheer panic and worry radiating from Wanzhi? She’s literally all of us right now, sobbing
Just as I thought—Peacock Xu is here for clout! Dressed all flashy for attention, then bails without even helping them. Unbelievable!
She clearly doesn’t understand Yuyu at all. Anyone can tell she didn’t know about Yuyu’s fear of heights. Healing CP, charge forward!
Stop talking or I’ll start crying too, damn this cursed production team
On camera, Jiang Lingyu’s brows were tightly knit. The urgent countdown ticked in her ears, leaving no room for hesitation. She had to jump soon.
Don’t be afraid.
Don’t be afraid—
Xu Mifei’s words echoed in Jiang Lingyu’s mind. She didn’t even need to look at the island below. If the show guaranteed their safety, they must have tested it thoroughly.
But then—
How many times had Xu Mifei tested it?
Yesterday was clearly her first jump. That moment of sheer terror had been visible even in her falling eyes.
Jiang Lingyu had initially thought Xu Mifei joined the props team to keep better control over her. Now, she wasn’t so sure.
Xu Mifei had changed. Her actions could no longer be measured by her past standards.
It was as if she’d become a different person entirely, her words carrying more conviction than before.
Adjusting her protective mask and goggles, ensuring every safeguard was in place, Jiang Lingyu’s gaze landed on Xu Mifei nearby.
As part of the crew, Xu Mifei would monitor them throughout. In case of emergency, she’d arrive immediately with the Flyer. Jiang Lingyu had never realized Xu Mifei actually possessed such capability.
“Don’t jump, no, don’t!” But Jiang Lingyu’s complex internal struggle appeared differently to Xu Wanzhi, who knew about her acrophobia. There was no way she could let her jump from here.
Besides, Xu Wanzhi didn’t want to jump either.
Jiang Lingyu was her perfect excuse. If she could persuade her, they’d both lose eighty points, and she could remain tied to Jiang Lingyu.
“You’re terrified. If you jump now, I won’t be able to…” Xu Wanzhi reached out to Jiang Lingyu. “Don’t go any further. Give me your hand, okay? We’ll think of another way. Even if we fail this mission, I’ll stay with you. Don’t force yourself if you’re this scared.”
Though pale-faced, Jiang Lingyu suddenly turned back, the corner of her lips curling into a cold smirk. “Who said I’m afraid?”
After differentiating into an omega, her physical abilities had automatically declined significantly, and acrophobia became an accompanying symptom. Since then, she had never piloted a high-altitude Flyer again.
How many years had it been?
Yet her heart had always yearned for the skies, longing to soar freely. If Song Nian hadn’t reminded her back then, Jiang Lingyu would have thought no one in this world remembered her love for piloting Flyers.
Without hesitation, she leaped.
Closing her eyes, Jiang Lingyu saw the moment Xu Mifei had jumped.
Now. Their paths had converged.
Her body was in hell, plummeting, free-falling at breakneck speed.
Her soul was in heaven—she was free. In that instant, Jiang Lingyu felt she understood Xu Mifei’s fear, torment, and… relief.
Then, through the silent earpiece came a clear voice—one that had once been her nightmare but now sounded mature, steady, and reassuring:
“Props team confirms the track is clear,” Xu Mifei murmured. “Jiang Lingyu will land safely.”
