Forced to Romance the Omega Psychiatrist (GL, ABO) - Chapter 5
“Dr. Xia.”
Bai Shuixi’s voice came from behind. Xia You paused mid-step, hesitating for a moment. Only when she heard steady footsteps following her did she stop and turn around warily.
City G was located further north, and autumn had already begun to set in. The leaves on the street trees had started to yellow slightly, with a few early ones already fallen to the ground, hinting at the season’s arrival.
The lingering effects of the heavy rain from a few days ago still hadn’t completely faded. Standing on the street, Xia You could still feel a faint, damp chill in the air.
Bai Shuixi stood a few steps away, her expression cool as she studied Xia You before giving a light smile. “I think we need to talk. What do you say?”
Xia You didn’t respond, her fingers unconsciously tightening around the strap of her bag, her expression slightly resistant.
Bai Shuixi noticed Xia You’s momentary reluctance and guessed she was about to refuse. Lowering her lashes slightly, she preemptively cut off Xia You’s words: “I just want to talk about what happened that day. There are still plenty of people around, I don’t mind discussing it here.Do you?”
Xia You’s expression shifted immediately. After a brief hesitation, she turned and said, “Follow me.”
Bai Shuixi smiled faintly and trailed behind Xia You, walking against the crowd toward the other side of the shopping plaza. By the time they reached the back of the square, the number of passersby had dwindled significantly, but Xia You still showed no sign of stopping.
Watching the resolute figure ahead, Bai Shuixi sighed inwardly, as if helpless, then quickened her pace and caught Xia You’s hand.
Xia You startled, instinctively trying to pull away as she turned to stare at Bai Shuixi in surprise. “You—”
Bai Shuixi curved her eyes into a harmless smile, but her grip tightened slightly, firmly keeping Xia You’s hand in hers.
Xia You felt uncomfortable being held like this, but faced with Bai Shuixi’s gentle, coaxing expression, she couldn’t bring herself to say anything harsh. Frowning, she asked, “What do you want?”
“Don’t be nervous, I just…”
Bai Shuixi held Xia You’s hand, realizing her tone might have been too casual for the situation. She lowered her head slightly, softening her voice as she began to act.
“I wanted to talk about that day. If I said I didn’t mean to treat you like that, would you stop avoiding me?”
As she spoke, Bai Shuixi let her head droop slightly, feigning a pitiful, dejected look.
A cool breeze swept past, stirring Bai Shuixi’s hair and obscuring her expression. Xia You studied Bai Shuixi’s unusually pale complexion, the lowered lashes made the usually domineering woman appear unexpectedly fragile.
For some reason, Xia You suddenly remembered that Bai Shuixi was actually several years younger than her.
She had always known Bai Shuixi’s age, but the alpha’s overbearing personality often made her forget that Bai Shuixi wasn’t actually that old.
Now, the custom-tailored black coat with intricate patterns draped over Bai Shuixi’s slender, almost delicate shoulders. A sapphire-encrusted chain collar pin secured the shirt’s neckline, lending Bai Shuixi an air of refined elegance yet also a hint of loneliness. After all, Bai Shuixi truly had no family to rely on.
“You…” Xia You took a deep breath, reining in her welling sympathy. “What exactly are you trying to achieve by telling me this now?”
“I’ve always liked you, didn’t you know?” Bai Shuixi looked up at Xia You, recalling the original body’s slightly twisted tendencies, and added, “More than anyone else. If you distance yourself from me, I’ll be very upset.”
Mainly because failing the mission would mean being nagged to death by the system.
Fortunately, Xia You wasn’t someone she disliked. Otherwise, Bai Shuixi would rather endure the system’s endless complaints than approach someone she had no interest in.
“But I don’t have those kinds of feelings for you,” Xia You said, looking at Bai Shuixi. “Everything before was just an accident. It would be wrong to let you hold onto false hopes. Keeping our distance is best for both of us.”
Bai Shuixi: “…”
Ah, it didn’t work.
Bai Shuixi sighed wearily in her heart, dropping the pitiful act she’d been putting on. She gave Xia You’s retreating figure a disinterested glance before turning away.
This time, she didn’t chase after her. Instead, she slipped her hands into her pockets, standing still as she clicked her tongue softly.
She had thought she could win a bit of Xia You’s favor, making her eventual forceful conquest smoother.
Who knew that trying to save them both some trouble would backfire?
The system, having observed the entire scene, chimed in gloomily.
[Host! I told you changing the novel’s plot wouldn’t be easy. The female lead’s preferences won’t just shift on their own.]
Bai Shuixi glanced in the direction Xia You had left, though she didn’t bother focusing too hard. With a lazy tug at her collar, she turned away indifferently, speaking casually:
“And I told you, I’m not actually twisted, I just don’t easily develop emotions. While guilt rarely crosses my mind, I still prefer to reason things out before doing anything bad.”
[…]
“By the way, what’s the next plot point supposed to be?” Bai Shuixi asked the system as she opened her car door.
[Erm, let me check. It’s you harassing Xia You late at night, scaring her so much she calls Li Wei for help. It was supposed to be a tender moment between childhood friends, but Xia You hears Zhou Wanwan’s voice on Li Wei’s call. Wow, super angsty.]
Bai Shuixi paused mid-motion as she started the car. “When is this supposed to happen?”
The system checked and replied cheerfully, [Today!]
“So, today, Li Wei brought Zhou Wanwan home?” Bai Shuixi wasn’t surprised. There was no way there wasn’t something going on between Li Wei and Zhou Wanwan. But hadn’t Xia You just been stubbornly defending Li Wei earlier?
What a foolish Omega, letting herself be used and played like this.
“Then I’ll go harass Xia You later,” Bai Shuixi said, utterly uninterested.
She had no particular interest in bullying Xia You. Some failed alphas seemed to get off on making Omegas cry, but she was just an ordinary alpha who rarely felt anything even pleasure. She was only doing this because the mission demanded it.
If Xia You wouldn’t cooperate, then she’d just have to suffer a little.
Night fell, and the neon lights along the streets flickered to life by the time Xia You finally returned to her downtown apartment.
The lights in the hallway brightened the moment the elevator doors opened.
The crisp sound of high heels approached the residential entrance. Xia You carried a bag of freshly bought fruits and snacks, her mind still replaying the conversation she’d had with her junior colleagues during the afternoon meeting.
Just as she stepped out of the elevator, her phone chimed. Xia You unsuspectingly reached for it,
“Caught you.”
A cool, indifferent voice rang out.
A slender, slightly frail figure suddenly emerged from the side. Long, elegant fingers covered the lower half of Xia You’s face as she was pressed against the corridor wall.
Black hair cascaded down, it was Bai Shuixi, who had wrapped her arms around Xia You.
She had been waiting here for a long time, all to fulfill her mission of tormenting Xia You.
Ignoring Xia You’s reaction, Bai Shuixi dutifully played the role of a villain. One hand muffled Xia You’s lips, while the other wrapped around her waist, lazily pulling her close. “I came to see you,” she murmured.
A faint, cool fragrance drifted into Xia You’s senses.
The icy chill from the tiled floor seeped into her skin, sending an involuntary shiver down her spine. Yet, the cold touch of the gemstone buttons on Bai Shuixi’s shirt seemed even more pronounced. Xia You’s heartbeat quickened, her instinct to escape making her drop the snacks in her hand they scattered across the floor.
“Mmph?!” Xia You gasped in alarm against Bai Shuixi’s palm.
“Why are you panicking?” Amid the clattering noise, Bai Shuixi sighed, resting her chin on Xia You’s shoulder as if regretful. “I won’t hurt you,” she whispered.
She was supposed to scare the heroine like a true stalker.
Ideally, she should terrify Xia You enough to make her flee back to her room and call Li Wei in fear.
“I just wanted to see you.”
Disregarding Xia You’s struggles, Bai Shuixi pinned both her wrists against the wall, pressing close like a genuine obsessive lunatic. Midway, she paused, frowning as she debated whether to kiss Xia You’s ear or bite her neck.
Neither option appealed to her.
Why couldn’t Xia You just run back and call Li Wei already?
“Why did you come here?”
Trapped in Bai Shuixi’s embrace, Xia You didn’t seem as frightened as expected or perhaps she was hiding it well. Though trembling slightly, her voice remained composed.
“I came…” Bai Shuixi hesitated, surprised by Xia You’s reaction. After a moment, she chose the cruelest words. “I came to repeat what happened that day. I’m here to kiss you, to torment you. Guess, if I do this, will that precious lover of yours come to save you?”
“What do you mean? What did you do to Li Wei?!”
Xia You, who had been calm just moments ago, now tensed up in alarm.
“Me?” Bai Shuixi was pushed away. She glanced down at the wrinkled silk shirt, then chuckled faintly, as if at a loss for words. Brushing off the fabric, she gave Xia You an indifferent, careless smile. “Why would I need to do anything? Why don’t you guess what she’s doing right now?”
Xia You froze.
“What’s the matter, too scared to guess?” Bai Shuixi understood immediately. “Then let me guess for you. I think, she’s with another Omega right now, one of them sober and the other not quite, maybe even getting intimate. How about it? Want to call and test that theory?”
Xia You fell silent for a moment, her slender hands already clenched into fists.
Bai Shuixi observed her struggling composure with slight incomprehension, her eyelashes lowering slightly. Whether alphas or Omegas, she never quite understood the decisions they made for so-called ‘feelings’…
“I won’t test it.”
Xia You suddenly looked up and spoke.
Startled out of her thoughts, Bai Shuixi blinked. “Hmm?”
“I won’t test it,” Xia You maintained her usual quiet demeanor fragile yet utterly clear-headed. “Attempting to verify at a time like this is itself an act of suspicion. Whether she’s with another Omega or not, I believe she wouldn’t cross the line. That’s her work.”
For the first time in her life, Bai Shuixi felt the urge to sneer coldly.
“If you refuse to doubt her,” Bai Shuixi grabbed Xia You’s retreating forearm, finding this absurd, “then why not go see for yourself?”
