From Trashy A to the Heiress’s Little Son-in-Law After the Idol Competition (GL, ABO) - Chapter 3
Xiao Yanjin took a deep breath. The original owner had met her when they were children they could be considered childhood sweethearts. She vaguely remembered this older sister being cold and aloof, rarely paying her any attention.
Ji Yunuo was three years older than the original owner, but her personality was far more mature than her peers. As a young lady from a wealthy family, she was trained in various skills every day.
Every time the original owner went to see her, she was either painting, playing the piano, dancing, or practicing archery her talents were diverse and seemingly endless.
That she disliked the original owner was a given. The main reason was that the original owner had been rowdy and mischievous as a child, often teasing her with smooth talk.
Now, after five years apart, one was a freshly graduated elite university student, while the other was an uneducated, universally despised scoundrel of an Alpha.
Xiao Yanjin smirked silently. It must have been quite the effort for them to spare time for this blind date, were they here to mock the Xiao family?
“Yunuo, greet Uncle and Aunt Xiao as well,” Ji Zhiye said with a smile.
Ji Yunuo lifted her head, her beautiful eyes sharp and bright, yet chillingly indifferent. Even her smile felt like it could freeze someone to the bone. “Uncle Xiao, Aunt Xiao, it’s a pleasure to dine with you tonight,” she said politely.
Then, her gaze shifted to Xiao Yanjin, who responded with a lazy smile. The young Miss Ji was truly like an orchid among jade her entire being exuded an untouchable, icy elegance and an air of abstinence.
For an Omega like her to have someone she liked would be the real surprise!
“Hello,” she said softly.
“Greetings, Miss Ji,” Xiao Yanjin replied politely. She had no intention of playing the sycophant, she just wanted to leave as soon as possible.
“Ah Mu, please, all of you, take your seats,” Ji Zhiye said, glancing at the composed and elegant young woman who, in truth, matched Wei Qin quite well.
The three members of the Xiao family took their seats in the remaining chairs.
An elderly man beside Ji Yunuo cleared his throat, Ji Yi, Ji Zhiye’s uncle. At his status, he had no need to defer to the family head.
“Let me be blunt,” he said. “Since both families are here for a matchmaking meeting, we must consider compatibility. Setting aside family backgrounds for now, let’s talk about education. Our Yunuo graduated from an Ivy League university abroad. And what about the young lady from the Xiao family?”
Families placed great importance on social parity. Even Wei Qin, who acted in the entertainment industry, came from an extraordinary background. And it wasn’t just the elite even ordinary families valued matching status.
Xiao Liangmu and Liang Zhi’s expressions turned grim.
Xiao Yanjin, however, remained completely unfazed. “High school,” she said calmly, without a trace of shame over her lack of education.
Ji Yi sneered. “A world-renowned university versus an uncompleted high school education, you’ve already lost this round. Now, our Yunuo can play the piano, sing, ride horses, shoot arrows, paint, and sculpt. And what about you?”
The original owner could drink, fight, smoke, flirt with girls, and… sleep all day.
Well, best not to mention such embarrassing things.
“I don’t have any particular hobbies.”
Ji Yi’s face lit up with delight, and he let out a mocking laugh. “You have nothing to your name, yet you still have the audacity to come here for a matchmaking meeting with our Ji family?”
Xiao Liangmu frowned. “Old Master Ji, what do you mean by that? This meeting was arranged between our families long ago. Coming here is simply honoring the agreement. Why are you insulting my daughter?”
Ji Yi couldn’t care less about agreements. To have his grand-niece matched with someone like this was nothing short of an insult to her dignity!
“Dad, calm down,” Xiao Yanjin pressed a hand on Xiao Liangmu’s shoulder, signaling him to stay silent. She was inwardly surprised despite the Ji family’s status as an elite household with close ties to the Xias, they were being so aggressive. It seemed Xiao Liangmu didn’t hold much weight in their eyes.
“While I may not be as accomplished as the esteemed Miss Ji in all ten arts music, chess, calligraphy, and painting, I’ve at least had some education. I enjoy reading and singing, and occasionally play the violin.”
“You enjoy reading and singing?” Ji Yunuo’s aunt, Ji Chun, questioned skeptically. “Then recite some poetry for us.”
Ji Yi volunteered, “Let me test her.”
After several rounds of questioning, Xiao Yanjin answered every one without hesitation. In her original world, she had majored in Chinese literature and had a passion for classical poetry, making nearly every verse second nature to her she could even recite the entire “Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng” flawlessly.
As they exchanged verses, Ji Zhiye and Wei Qin exchanged glances, clearly taken aback by Xiao Yanjin’s unexpected talent.
“Damn, is this Xiao Yanjin cheating or something?” Wei Qin muttered under her breath.
Ji Zhiye squeezed her hand, noticing the cold sweat forming on her palm, and reassured her, “Relax, it’s fine.”
Xiao Liangmu and Liang Zhi were equally stunned. Their daughter, who had always despised studying, actually had such an extensive knowledge of poetry.
“Has she been secretly studying behind our backs?” Xiao Liangmu scratched his head in confusion.
Liang Zhi took a deep breath. “If she were like this all along, why would she have dropped out?”
Ji Yunuo lifted her gaze slightly, glancing at Xiao Yanjin, who stood unfazed, effortlessly holding her own against the verbal onslaught.
Her brows furrowed. Just what kind of alpha was this?
“Outrageous!” Ji Yi, unprepared for Xiao Yanjin’s competence, flew into a rage.
“What use is a girl who can recite a few poems? In every other way, she’s nowhere near my grandniece!”
Xiao Liangmu retorted, “Old Master Ji, here we go again. Just now, my Yanjin flawlessly recited every poem, and you dismiss it as useless. Who was it that looked down on my daughter earlier?”
Ji Yi sneered coldly. “You know exactly what kind of person your daughter is!” With that, he pulled out several photos from his bag and slammed them onto the table.
Xiao Yanjin stood up to look, they were pictures of the original host embracing a stunning woman while entering a bar. The woman was curvaceous, with long flowing hair, and notably well-endowed.
Ji Yi was smugly waiting to expose the scoundrel alpha, but instead, she merely chuckled dismissively.
“What are you laughing at?”
Xiao Yanjin poured herself a drink and raised her glass in a mock toast to the elder.
“Old Master Ji, if you wanted to spy on me, why go through all this trouble?” There was no way she’d let them berate her without a fight. Why not own up to it and ruin this farce of a matchmaking session? “Did I have to announce it myself for you to believe me? Fine then, I’ll humiliate myself properly I, Xiao Yanjin, am a complete and utter scoundrel alpha!”
Ji Yunuo’s lips curved faintly.
This was the first time she’d heard an alpha call themselves a scoundrel.
Wasn’t that the same as calling oneself a pervert? She really wasn’t leaving herself any room to retreat.
“Xiao Yanjin, what nonsense are you spouting?!” Xiao Liangmu shot to his feet, aghast. To call herself a scoundrel alpha in front of her prospective match, had she lost her mind?
Xiao Yanjin glanced around. Ji Zhiye remained silent, Wei Qin wore a disdainful smirk, and… Ji Yunuo still hadn’t lifted her head to look at her. She sighed inwardly. Just how unshakable was this Omega?
“Would Miss Ji really not be angry hearing such words?” Xiao Yanjin deliberately provoked: “As a notorious Alpha, any Omega who likes me would be at a disadvantage.”
Before Ji Yunuo could react, Ji Yi snapped: “Xiao Liangmu, look at your daughter! How dare she come to a matchmaking session with such behavior!”
Xiao Yanjin retorted without hesitation: “Since you already know what I’m like, why did you even come to this matchmaking?!” All she wanted was to leave immediately this ridiculous setup felt more like a corporate team-building event!
“You!”
Ji Chun quickly tugged at Ji Yi’s sleeve: “Uncle, don’t be angry.”
Ji Yi’s face flushed red as he snorted, his gaze shifting to Ji Zhiye with unmistakable disapproval.
“You’d rather ruin your own reputation completely, how reckless.” After a long pause, a cool, authoritative voice finally spoke. Xiao Yanjin turned sharply to meet Ji Yunuo’s gaze.
Those light brown eyes gleamed like polished amber, luminous and penetrating.
“What does Miss Ji mean by that?” Xiao Yanjin taunted again. “Could it be you actually like someone like me?”
Ji Yunuo merely smiled faintly, sending an inexplicable chill down Xiao Yanjin’s spine. Why wasn’t this Omega getting angry?
Then, Ji Yunuo walked out.
At this moment, Wei Qin’s expression tightened at the scene. Feigning that she’d dropped her jewelry outside, she asked Ji Zhiye to accompany her to search for it.
Xiao Yanjin felt cold sweat break out. Facing off against Ji Yi hadn’t unsettled her half as much as locking eyes with Ji Yunuo. No, she needed a different strategy to handle this ice-cold Omega. Deciding to regroup, she headed to the restroom to wash her hands.
Just as she reached the door, she overheard a heated conversation from the nearby storage room.
“I won’t allow Yunuo to marry such an Alpha! Absolutely not!” Wei Qin’s voice was sharp with fury.
Ji Zhiye, clearly henpecked, coaxed gently: “Qinqin, our young friend here seems different from before. Maybe we should observe further.”
“Observe? Observe what? She admitted herself she’s trash! In terms of education or family background, how could she possibly compare to our Yunuo? Most importantly, her family’s bankrupt this matchmaking is just a ploy to leech off the Ji family’s resources. I refuse this arrangement!”
“But Liangmu is my dear friend. I can’t just disregard his feelings,”
“Which matters more, your friend or your wife and child?”
“You do, of course, my precious Qinqin.” Ji Zhiye kissed her cheek.
“Then think of a solution quickly. Just make sure we exit this gracefully without damaging relationships.”
“Fine… I’ll discuss it with Uncle and Elder Sister.”
Xiao Yanjin smirked. Perfect, the more opposition, the better.
She entered the restroom casually, washing her hands just as someone else walked in.
Through the mirror, Xiao Yanjin saw a woman in a jade-green gown, her aura frosty and detached, waist-length hair cascading down. Those eyes especially luminous and otherworldly.
Wait… wasn’t this person the spitting image of Ji Yunuo?
Ji Yunuo stood behind her, her demeanor turning glacial as she spoke: “Unless I’m mistaken, this is the Omega restroom, isn’t it?”
Xiao Yanjin: Nani???!
