#Xiao Yanjin Admits to Being a Scummy Alpha#
Several trending hashtags began appearing on Weibo, clearly sparked by paparazzi photos of both families entering a hotel together, instantly stirring up a storm of gossip.
[“How dare Xiao Yanjin even think of going on a blind date with Ji Yunuo?”]
[“Ji Yunuo studied at a prestigious university abroad, won a piano award, acted in the entertainment industry as a child, and her family is the richest in the country, what part of Xiao Yanjin even compares?”]
[“Exactly! The Xiao family is bankrupt, and she still has the audacity to try matching with the Ji family’s eldest daughter? Is she out of her mind?”]
[“Whatever, I’m going to tear this scummy Alpha apart in the comments!”]
[“Oh right, Xiao Yanjin is also a notorious playgirl who frequents bars and dates around. If I were Ji Yunuo and found out she was my blind date, I’d have nightmares.”]
[“Sisters, we’ve practically watched the Ji family’s eldest daughter grow up. We can’t let them end up together!”]
Xiao Yanjin turned off her phone, a mocking smile curling at her lips.
The original owner’s reputation was truly in the gutter.
“This is absolutely infuriating!” Xiao Liangmu fumed. “These netizens are nothing but vultures! The moment they heard our family went bankrupt, they started kicking us while we’re down!”
“What should we do now?” Liang Zhi fretted. “How can the Ji family be so arrogant? We’ve known each other for so long, yet they’d say such harsh things!”
“You know how it is, Old Master Ji is infamous for his temper. When I was a kid, he’d often pull my ears. He probably just said those things because he can’t bear to part with his precious granddaughter.”
“But it still doesn’t sit right with me. Their granddaughter is a treasure, but our daughter isn’t…?” As she spoke, Liang Zhi gave Xiao Yanjin a puzzled look.
“Yanjin, I’m curious, how did you memorize those ancient poems?” She remembered Xiao Yanjin spending most of her time at home either gaming or sleeping in, and even at school, she just coasted by, consistently ranking at the bottom of her class.
“Huh? I’m just naturally smart. I glanced through some poetry and remembered it, that’s all.” Xiao Yanjin replied calmly.
Liang Zhi still didn’t quite believe it, but she didn’t press further. After all, this was her daughter, there was no reason to doubt her.
The car felt stifling, so Xiao Yanjin rolled down the window. A gust of wind rushed in, and suddenly, a flyer fluttered inside.
Bored, Xiao Yanjin picked it up, it was a recruitment poster for a talent agency.
[Sing & Shine Entertainment is Hiring New Talents! Don’t miss out, if you’re interested, come sign up now!]
Xiao Yanjin had only two passions in life: singing and writing.
Originally, she had wanted to apply for a screenwriting program at a drama academy but ended up majoring in Chinese Literature at a prestigious university instead.
After getting into graduate school for music, she began composing lyrics and melodies, but her works were repeatedly plagiarized. Seeing her creations become someone else’s hits was beyond frustrating. Losing legal battles over it left her with nothing but resentment toward the music industry.
Though Xiao Yanjin didn’t care much about the online backlash, she still needed to make a living.
So the next day, she hurried over to Sing & Shine Entertainment for the audition.
Rumor had it this agency collaborated with production crews and even had openings for screenwriters—so she figured it was worth a shot.
The company occupied a single floor in an office building, and from the looks of it, the space was rather small.
Xiao Yanjin had just stepped out of the elevator when she saw over a dozen girls gathered at the entrance, holding registration forms and chattering among themselves.
One of the girls glanced at her and asked, “Are you here to sign up too?”
Xiao Yanjin nodded. “Yeah.”
The girl, dressed in stylish and eye-catching attire, gave her sportswear a disdainful look but the moment she caught sight of Xiao Yanjin’s face, she froze for a second before saying, “Then stand behind me.”
Xiao Yanjin scratched her head in confusion. Were all aspiring screenwriters these days dressed so fashionably?
Wait… was this really a screenwriting interview? Something felt off.
When the scene ahead became clearer, she realized it wasn’t just a feeling.
The girls auditioning were either singing, dancing, doing both, or dramatically flipping their hair, only to pause afterward, panting for breath.
And they were terrible at it. Even square-dancing grannies moved with more grace and elegance.
Just as Xiao Yanjin was about to bolt, someone called her name.
“Xiao Yanjin.”
The interviewer, also the company’s CEO, a male Omega smiled. “Are you here for the audition too?”
The Xiao family was already well-known, and though the original owner of this body wasn’t a celebrity, she had been frequently covered by entertainment paparazzi. As a CEO who had seen his fair share of wealthy heirs chasing fame in the entertainment industry, he recognized a top-tier heiress at a glance.
“Hello, I’m Mr. Zhang.” The CEO stood up and shook her hand.
“If you’re here to join our company, there’s no need for an audition. I’ll just let you in directly.”
Xiao Yanjin shook her head. “No, I’m here for the screenwriting position.”
“Guess which role in the entertainment industry makes more money?” Mr. Zhang grinned, his shrewd expression practically spelling out the word “calculating.”
“Huh?”
“Actors! Singers!” Mr. Zhang said solemnly. “Some things just have to be said. The Xiao family went bankrupt, so you must be drowning in debt, right? I know making money isn’t easy, but the screenwriting industry isn’t for everyone. Even successful screenwriters don’t earn as much as actors.”
“So you want me to be an actress?”
“Or a singer, either works.” Mr. Zhang settled back into his chair, now holding Xiao Yanjin’s registration form.
“I’ll just sign you up right now.”
“Wait! I’m here to be a screenwriter, not an actress.”
“Then do you have a degree in literature or screenwriting?” Mr. Zhang looked up.
“Uh…”
“Our company may be small, but we know better than to mess around. Even an assistant screenwriter position can’t be handed to someone without a college degree or any experience.”
Xiao Yanjin thought to herself, modern society was all about credentials. No matter how talented you were, lacking the right diploma was an insurmountable barrier. But singing had no such restrictions. It didn’t matter how educated you were; as long as you could sing, write lyrics, compose music, and most importantly go viral, you could make it.
Taking a deep breath, Xiao Yanjin reminded herself that the Xiao family was in crisis. She could face debt collectors at any moment. Since she had come to this world, she needed to adapt to its ways and plan for the future.
“So you’re trying to gaslight me?” Xiao Yanjin chuckled wryly before signing the form. At least this was half a step into the entertainment industry. She refused to believe she couldn’t make it big later.
But three days later, she realized this damn boss was truly shameless.
That day, four girls accompanied her for the report.
Two alphas, one beta, and one omega.
Among them, the alpha named Jiang Nan and the beta named Zeng Hesh stood out the most.
“Do you know about the talent show Goddess 101?” Director Zhang said with a gleam in his eyes.
Jiang Nan replied eagerly, “I know, I know! Ji Mian and Xu Zhixia debuted from there!”
“It was so amazing, I dream of shining on stage just like them!”
Xiao Yanjin twitched her lips. The names Ji Mian and Xu Zhixia sounded familiar. Oh! Not only were they both members of the girl group that debuted, but they were also a married couple, one a singer, the other an award-winning actress.
But that wasn’t important. The only reason she knew about them was because of Ji Yunuo.
After all, Xu Zhixia was Ji Yunuo’s cousin.
“Now, the second season of Goddess 101, Chase Your Dreams, Girls, is finally coming back after six years!” Director Zhang’s gaze swept over the girls’ faces. “Are you excited?”
“Excited!”
Xiao Yanjin thought to herself: Excited, my foot.
“Are you willing to participate?”
“Willing!”
Xiao Yanjin sneered: Willing, my ass.
“Great! The program will hold auditions in City A a week from now. We need to speed up training hopefully, two or three of you can make it in.” Director Zhang’s eyes landed on Xiao Yanjin. “Yanjin, I have the highest hopes for you. Don’t let me down.”
Xiao Yanjin had never watched talent shows before, and she didn’t like them either she hated rankings. Looking at Director Zhang’s sharp, calculating expression, she couldn’t help but wonder if she’d stumbled into a scam.
Well then, just wait and see.
Chase Your Dreams, Girls was a nationally popular variety show. Contestants flocked from all over the country, filling the entire square in just one day easily tens of thousands of people.
Yet only 101 would pass the auditions, and from those, only seven would debut. The odds were slim.
Xiao Yanjin leaned against the wall, watching as people came and went, lost in thought.
Just then, a few voices murmured nearby.
“Isn’t that Xiao Yanjin? The one who trended on Weibo for ages?”
“You just noticed? I’m just surprised someone like her would even try out for a talent show. Isn’t that a joke?”
“Don’t say that. With her looks, she’ll probably attract a lot of fans.”
“So what? Even if she passes the auditions, can someone with a scandal really debut? And she’s a trash alpha too!”
By the afternoon, it was finally the turn of Sing & Dance Entertainment’s group.
Director Zhang had named their five-member group “Good Girl.”
A… unique name.
The auditions focused on individual talent, so after the others finished, it was Xiao Yanjin’s turn.
“Hello, judges. My name is Xiao Yanjin. I’m 19 years old, 178 cm tall, from Lancheng. I’ll be performing the song Hero’s Song.”
As soon as she finished introducing herself, she noticed the judges’ surprised expressions, clearly, they couldn’t fathom why a spoiled rich kid would be here auditioning for a living.
Hah. Like she cared.
“The great river flows eastward, the stars in the sky…”
Hero’s Song was an uplifting anthem, and any singer performing it couldn’t help but get passionate.
But there wasn’t the slightest ripple of emotion on Xiao Yanjin’s face, only a sense of being forced to sing. She even messed up several lyrics and deliberately sang off-key. Would the judges still want her in the program after this performance?
“I’ve finished singing. Thank you for listening, judges.”
“Can you dance?”
“No.”
“Can you rap?”
“No.”
“May I ask why you want to participate in this talent show?”
“My boss forced me to.”
The judge in the middle laughed and looked up. “I know who you are, Xiao Yanjin.”
“Thanks for the recognition.” She probably only knew because of trending topics!
The judge said nothing more, simply marking a check on the list.
“You may leave now.”
