Getting Caught Up In His Cycle Of Passionate Love - Chapter 27
“Your Mom Told Me to Take Me Home”
Ye Wan pulled her hand away from Xu Tao Yue’s, looking confused. “What are you doing?”
Xu Tao Yue covered her face, not daring to speak, but desperately winking at her.
Ye Wan blew into her eye. “It’s okay, there’s no sand in your eye.”
Xu Tao Yue: “…”
Xu Tao Yue had never been in a situation like this before. She could only whisper into Ye Wan’s ear. “She’s Xia Xiangyang’s older sister.”
Ye Wan nodded. “Yeah, she just said that.”
“What I mean is, Meng Yuan is Xia Xiangyang’s biological sister. The kind with a bl00d relationship.”
Meng Yuan already knew Xu Tao Yue was explaining it to Ye Wan. She didn’t say anything, just picked up the teacup from the table and took a light sip. Ye Wan’s brain froze. It took her a long time to process what Xu Tao Yue had said.
“Taozi, why isn’t there a crack in the ground?”
Xu Tao Yue: “?”
“If there were a crack in the ground, I’d crawl right into it.” Ye Wan covered her face. “What do I do? I’m too embarrassed to face anyone…”
Meng Yuan found this girl very interesting and started teasing her. “This little girl is really cute.”
Xia Xiangyang, who was completely oblivious, just rubbed his head and looked at Ye Wan. “Her? She’s silly.”
Ye Wan: “…”
The rest of them finished the meal, which tasted like chewing wax. Xu Tao Yue swore she would never get involved in Ye Wan’s business again. Let her deal with it herself. Lu Que thought Xu Tao Yue’s reaction was quite cute. After all that commotion, it was almost 5 a.m.
After all her antics, Xu Tao Yue started to get sleepy. Lu Que took her home, and she slept until noon the next day. When she finally woke up, she heard a piece of news that felt like a bolt from the blue. Things started to spiral out of control.
At a little after 7 a.m., Lu Que had received a call from Xu Wen. Xu Wen originally wanted to ask when Xu Tao Yue would be coming home, but Xu Tao Yue was in such a deep sleep that she didn’t hear her phone ring. Lu Que “kindly” answered it for her. Xu Wen was stunned when she heard Lu Que’s voice. She quickly sat up and asked tentatively, “Is Xu Tao Yue coming back today?”
Lu Que nervously touched the tip of his nose and nodded. “Yes, Auntie.”
“Then you should come along too.”
Lu Que quickly refused. “No, no, Auntie. I’ll prepare some things and come next time. This time isn’t necessary.”
Xu Wen didn’t care. “You don’t need to bring anything. Just come. It’s decided, okay? I’ll be waiting for you at home.”
After giving a few instructions, Xu Wen hung up. Lu Que sat there, wondering how to subtly tell Xu Tao Yue about this.
When Xu Tao Yue was groggily getting up, Lu Que quietly moved closer. “Xu Tao Yue, can I tell you something?”
Xu Tao Yue was so out of it she barely knew where she was. She just responded, “Go on.”
“Your mom told me to take me home.”
Xu Tao Yue: “???”
Hearing this, Xu Tao Yue shot up and stared at Lu Que. “What did you just say?”
“I said… your mom told me to take me home.”
Xu Tao Yue: “???”
Xu Tao Yue stared at Lu Que with a look of disbelief. “Maybe I’m still a little sleepy. Can you say that again?”
Lu Que, however, was calm. He handed her her phone. “You heard right.”
Xu Tao Yue’s world fell apart. She woke up to find that her “son-in-law” was about to meet her “mother-in-law,” and she was still in bed with drool on her face.
“Okay, okay, let’s play this game. Lu Que, you’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you? You’ve wanted to meet your mother-in-law for a long time, haven’t you?” Xu Tao Yue had a good attitude. It only took her three minutes to accept the situation.
Lu Que nodded in agreement. “Yeah, I have. I’ve had ulterior motives for a long time.”
Xu Tao Yue turned off her phone, hugged a pillow, and lay back down in bed. Whatever. I’m not the one who’s nervous anyway.
Now it was Lu Que’s turn to be anxious. Xu Tao Yue was getting annoyed from him pacing back and forth.
“Can you stop moving around the room?” she said. “You’re making me dizzy.”
“I’m looking for clothes.”
“Can’t you just wear what you wore yesterday?”
“Those clothes look too formal.”
Xu Tao Yue was speechless. “Bro, where do your clothes look formal?”
“Dark colors are no good,” Lu Que said with a serious expression. He went through his old clothes in his closet but couldn’t find anything he liked. Xu Tao Yue waited for a long time before randomly pointing at one. “How about you just wear this one?”
“No,” Lu Que immediately refused.
“Why not?”
“Because it’s too light.”
Xu Tao Yue: “…”
“Dark is no good, light is no good. Hurry up! My mom must be getting impatient.”
The more he rushed, the more mistakes he made. In the end, Lu Que ended up wearing the same clothes from yesterday, but he buttoned his shirt wrong. Xu Tao Yue sighed and got up to help him fix it.
“Idiot. Lu Que is a big idiot.”
Lu Que rested his head on Xu Tao Yue’s shoulder, getting more and more anxious. Since he was a child, nothing had ever made him this worried.
“What if Auntie doesn’t like me and tells me to break up with you?”
“She won’t.”
“What if she thinks I’m not good enough for you and tells me to break up with you?”
“She won’t.”
“Then…”
This time, Xu Tao Yue interrupted him. “Lu Que, my mom will definitely support whoever I like.”
Despite what she said, when they actually got to Xu Tao Yue’s house, Lu Que was still very nervous. He was holding big bags, but he still instinctively grabbed her hand. “Xu Tao Yue.”
Xu Tao Yue knew what Lu Que was thinking. She could only comfort him. “Let’s go. I’ll be with you the whole time.”
After finally coaxing him upstairs, Xu Tao Yue patted her pockets and realized she didn’t have her keys. She had to knock on the door. Xu Wen quickly came and opened it. She was a little surprised when she saw Lu Que.
“Lu Que, right? You’re a handsome young man.”
Lu Que looked reserved. “Nice to meet you, Auntie.”
“Come in, come in.”
Lu Que walked into the living room first. Xu Wen whispered into Xu Tao Yue’s ear. “Did you trick him into coming here? How could such a good guy fall for you?”
Xu Tao Yue put her hand on Xu Wen’s shoulder. “Mom, you have to believe in your daughter’s charm, okay?”
Xu Wen nodded. “My daughter is the most charming. You have to hold onto Lu Que tightly.”
Xu Tao Yue gave her an “okay” sign. “Totally.”
Her brother was very lively today. When he saw Lu Que, he immediately jumped on him. Xu Wen found it strange, too. “My brother isn’t usually this enthusiastic with strangers. This is your first time meeting, right? That’s really something.”
Lu Que’s heart tightened when he heard her say this. He tried to push her brother away, but today, her brother seemed to be against him. The harder he pushed, the more her brother jumped on him.
Seeing this, Xu Tao Yue couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “Mom, please stop talking.”
Xu Wen understood what was going on with the young couple. She sighed. “So I’m the last person in this family to meet Little Lu.”
Lu Que quickly stood up. “I’m sorry, Auntie, I…” Hearing what Xu Wen said, Lu Que started to stammer, trying to explain. Then he saw Xu Wen burst out laughing. “Don’t be nervous. I’m just kidding. Dinner will be ready soon. Everyone, please sit.”
Lu Que breathed a sigh of relief and quietly moved next to Xu Tao Yue. “Xu Tao Yue, you were just watching the show, weren’t you?”
Xu Tao Yue was still showing her teeth from a big smile when Lu Que caught her. She laughed awkwardly. “Hehe, it’s okay. I told you, my mom is easy to get along with.”
“Do you think Auntie is mad?” Lu Que kept worrying about this question.
Xu Tao Yue waved her hand dismissively. “She’s not.”
During dinner, Lu Que put a bunch of food on Xu Tao Yue’s plate and barely touched his own. Xu Wen sighed. “Xu Tao Yue has been spoiled by me since she was a child. She doesn’t do any chores. Little Lu, please be more patient with her in the future.”
Lu Que shook his head. “It’s okay, Auntie.”
“Yeah, it’s okay.” Xu Tao Yue was struggling with a pork rib. “Mom, you didn’t cook this rib well. Why is it so hard to chew?”
“Eat it or don’t.”
Xu Tao Yue: “…”
Later, Xu Wen sent Xu Tao Yue away to have a private talk with Lu Que. Xu Tao Yue didn’t know what they talked about. She asked Lu Que, but he wouldn’t say, which made her curious for a long time.
“What did my mom say to you?! I’m so curious! Xu Wen isn’t the kind of person who would say anything sentimental!!” “She must have talked bad about me, right?” Xu Tao Yue thought this must be the truth and started pestering Lu Que. “Is it? Is it?” “I just know it must be!”
Lu Que looked at Xu Tao Yue and smiled. His gaze was gentle and serious. “Auntie said she wants me to be good to you.”
Xu Tao Yue gave up trying to guess. After all, it wasn’t anything bad. “Fine, fine. I can’t get anything out of you anyway.”
Late at night, Lu Que lay in his bed with a thousand thoughts running through his mind. He couldn’t fall asleep, so he walked to the window and opened the curtains. A beam of moonlight poured into the room. Lu Que looked up. The moonlight was quickly covered by a cloud, then soon reappeared. The stars all around twinkled around the moon.
In that moment, he thought of what Xu Wen had said to him.
“Actually, I know she’s not Xu Tao Yue. You’ve probably felt it too, haven’t you?” Xu Wen sat at the table, watching Xu Tao Yue downstairs.
“Auntie, why do you say that?”
“My Xu Tao Yue wasn’t this bright and cheerful. The real Xu Tao Yue passed away a long time ago.”
Lu Que’s heart tightened. He looked at Xu Tao Yue downstairs. She was secretly eating an ice pop. She knew Lu Que and Xu Wen would scold her, so she was hiding downstairs to eat. Occasionally, she would stomp her foot when the cold hit her teeth, but she didn’t slow down.
“Auntie…”
Xu Wen shook her head, looking at the girl eating below.
“Sometimes I feel like she is. But unfortunately, she isn’t. Xu Tao Yue passed away a year after her dad and I left.”
“Later, I moved here with my son. I was shocked when I saw her on the street. I called out Xu Tao Yue’s name, and she responded, so I just let the mistake continue.”
