Giving Interstellar Players a Horror Ghost Game Shock - Chapter 54
Driven by some kind of gut feeling, Liu Yuling kept pulling Ji Yu aside and questioning him for ages.
Every time, she felt like she was just about to figure something out, but the thought would slip away before she could grab it.
In the end, she gave up, puffed out her cheeks, and stomped off to lead the way, heading straight to the staircase to the second floor.
First things first—turn on the lights… Wait, where are the lights?!
The moment she hit the switch, things went completely off-script—well, for everyone except Ye Yuxi.
The lights flashed on, then off, and what followed was downright creepy. It was like a wave had been triggered; starting from the staircase, the surrounding lights began to go out one by one, all at the same steady pace.
In seconds, only the faint glow of the kitchen light—the farthest from the stairs—remained.
Finally snapping out of his shock, Ji Yu reached toward the kitchen like he was acting in some tragic drama: “No…”
But before he could even finish, the kitchen’s light flickered a couple of times and then went out completely.
The entire mansion fell into pitch-black darkness and an eerie silence.
Dead quiet.
For a long moment, none of the four dared to speak. The only sounds were their shaky, shallow breaths.
Ji Yu’s eyes widened in panic. He opened his mouth to say something, but his voice wobbled so much it sounded like it could barely hold itself together.
“…What the heck is going on?”
Not again! Just like last time, when he and Wang Yuze got trapped by the door, all the lights went out!
What kind of haunted place is this? Can’t even keep the power on! How does anyone live here?!
While the others were freaking out and trying to make sense of it, Ye Yuxi was calm as ever.
After all, she’d designed this game.
Like she always said, keeping the lights on in a horror game is so lame—it totally ruins the spooky vibe! So she’d set it up so that turning on too many lights would trigger the “power trip” event.
Sure enough, since there wasn’t a ghost interfering this time, the system immediately popped up with its usual cheerful tone:
“Ding-dong~ Congratulations to the team ‘Streamer Invincible’ for triggering the power trip event for the first time. Please assign at least one team member to head to the basement power room to inspect and resolve the issue.”
Hearing the system’s notification, Ji Yu finally felt a little more grounded—like he was actually playing a game. He forced out a laugh to shake off his fear.
“What a joke! That kind of place is definitely full of ghosts! Only an idiot would go down there!”
Wang Yuze, for once, agreed.
“Yeah, the power trip’s probably the ghost’s doing. Going down there is like walking straight into a trap. Let’s just stay back and use the camera to see if we can spot anything. No need to actually go in.”
The viewers in the chat weren’t having it. If no one goes, what are we even here for?
[Come on, Fish General, Bro Ze, the vibe is perfect! Just take a quick look!]
[Sister Yu, if you can convince those two to go down together, I’ll send you a Carnival gift!]
Ji Yu let out a sarcastic laugh, while Liu Yuling stayed totally unfazed. A Carnival gift? That’s pocket change. After splitting it with the platform and the team, it’s not worth the effort.
But then, the system came in clutch with another notification.
“Resolving the power trip issue will earn you a reward from the house owner: a 10% increase in the original task payout.”
Liu Yuling froze, her brain calculating at lightning speed. With a 10% bonus, they could buy some decent upgrades in the system store. A greedy smile crept onto her face.
She immediately grabbed someone’s arm—didn’t even check who it was—and whispered in a low, excited voice.
“Liver Bro, let’s go for it!”
Ye Yuxi’s voice came out of the darkness, calm and quiet:
“Sister Yu, you’re grabbing my arm.”
Liu Yuling didn’t care at all. It didn’t matter whose arm she was holding. What mattered was that the four of them would head to the basement together, fix the power outage, and claim that 10% bonus reward!
But just then, Ji Yu’s voice, trembling on the verge of tears, broke the silence beside her.
“R-really? Then… w-who’s holding my arm right now?”
“…”
No one answered him.
Because at that moment, they all felt the temperature drop sharply. Just a second ago, it was as warm as spring, but now they were shivering from the freezing cold.
And the coldest of them all was Ji Yu. The icy grip on his arm felt bone-chilling, almost paralyzing his entire arm. Tears welled up in his eyes as he fought the urge to cry.
Mom! This is too scary! If he made it out alive this time, he swore he’d never play a horror game again—no matter how much they paid him!
Please, just let him out. He wanted to go home and find his mom.
Suddenly, a crisp click broke through the darkness, and a beam of light flickered on.
But the strange thing was, the light wasn’t white—it was purple.
The one holding the flashlight was Ye Yuxi. She swept the light around, counting their group, and then pressed her lips together, looking a bit embarrassed.
“I just remembered we brought flashlights. But when I took it out, I accidentally knocked it… and, uh, now it’s like this.”
Liar. She just couldn’t stand how none of them thought to use the flashlight or noticed its special UV mode, which helped reveal ghosts. Left with no choice, she had to step in and give her clueless teammates a cheat code.
When she swept the light around earlier, she immediately noticed something wrong near Ji Yu. Now, she helpfully shined the purple beam directly in his direction.
Ji Yu had been standing right next to Wang Yuze, but now, there was a shadowy figure wedged between them.
The figure had long, matted hair stained with bl00d, covering its face completely. From the mess of filthy hair, a deathly pale hand reached out, gripping Ji Yu’s arm tightly.
That was all they could see.
The purple light’s range was limited, only illuminating her head and hand. The rest of her body remained swallowed by darkness, making it look like the ghost was just half a person.
Finally seeing what was clutching his arm, Ji Yu froze. The eerie purple light gave the ghost a creepy halo, like a horror movie filter. His eyes rolled back, and just as he was about to scream, another scream drowned him out.
“AHHHHHHHH!”
Wang Yuze had just noticed the ghost silently squeezed between him and Ji Yu. His scream was loud, sharp, and impressively long. Without even opening his eyes, he swung his fist hard at the ghost.
The moment his fist connected, Wang Yuze felt like he had punched a block of ice. A bone-chilling cold spread through his hand, making him shiver uncontrollably.
In the next instant, the sensation vanished.
The ghost was gone. All that remained was a bloody handprint on Ji Yu’s arm.
Click.
Still shaken, Ji Yu turned his tear-filled eyes toward Liu Yuling, only to see her lower a camera with a look of frustration.
“I was about to record that, but I was a second too slow! Didn’t catch anything. Yuze, could you wait until I finish filming next time before you attack? We need proper footage to report back!”
Ji Yu: ?
What kind of inhuman statement was that?
Yujie, how could you use your 37-degree mouth to say such a heartless, sub-zero thing?!
