Giving Interstellar Players a Horror Ghost Game Shock - Chapter 59
Ji Yu wore a look of utter grievance as he struggled to shake off Ye Yuxi’s grip. He yanked hard—
But it didn’t even budge her hand.
Another familiar voice chimed in from the side.
“With those skinny arms and legs, how do you even make it through training?”
Ji Yu turned his head in confusion and saw Wang Yuze standing right beside him, holding the baby he had taken from Liu Yuling in one arm while gripping the UV flashlight in the other. His expression practically screamed the urge to roast him.
Honestly, Wang Yuze just couldn’t wrap his head around it. Sure, Ji Yu was weak, but he was still a military academy student. Even logistics personnel had to go through physical training! How was it possible that he couldn’t even match the grip strength of a regular civilian—
Wait a second.
Wang Yuze’s gaze toward Ye Yuxi suddenly shifted, a mix of caution and curiosity.
Could it be?
Was Miss Y actually a hidden expert?! If that were the case, it made perfect sense why she picked a blank, expressionless avatar.
After all, top players these days loved disguising themselves as nobodies before effortlessly crushing weaker opponents.
Ye Yuxi had no time to deal with her teammates’ sudden, strange stares.
Right now, she was focused on steadying Liu Yuling while guiltily eyeing the red mark she had left on her arm.
Even though the situation had been urgent, and all in-game injuries were fake, she figured she should probably treat her to a meal later as an apology.
Ji Yu looked left, then right, feeling as if he were in some sort of fever dream.
Hadn’t his teammates all scattered and run for their lives earlier? Why were they suddenly gathered around him again…?
As his mind grew clearer, he suddenly felt something slip from his neck, as if a great weight had just been lifted from his shoulders.
Seeing him instinctively glance back, Ye Yuxi kindly offered a warning.
“You might not want to look.”
The next second, Ji Yu immediately turned around.
Fear? Cowardice? Sure, but his rebellious streak refused to be tamed! If someone told him not to do something, then he had to do it!
Then, his eyes locked onto the sight before him—
And his mind went blank.
What was that on the ground? Did it just fall off his shoulder?
Lying on the floor behind him was a blue-haired doll.
The craftsmanship was exquisite, and he vaguely recalled seeing it before—it should have been one of the dolls from the nine-grid claw machine in the basement.
But its once sweet, innocent smile had vanished. Its lips now curled downward, and its gemstone-like eyes were filled with nothing but resentment and malice.
Ji Yu’s mouth hung open. His throat felt like it had been stuffed with cotton, rendering him speechless.
If this doll wasn’t lying lifelessly on the ground and had actually started crawling toward him—he would have dropped straight to his knees on the spot.
His brain lagged for a few seconds before finally rebooting enough to regain his ability to speak.
“W-What the hell is going on?!”
Before Ye Yuxi could answer, the livestream chat enthusiastically jumped in to explain.
A flurry of transparent bullet comments scrolled across his vision—those watching from the two streamers’ POVs were just as clueless as he was, while the ones with the omniscient spectator view had seen everything.
【Long story short, you guys lost your minds! Each of you had a doll riding on your shoulders, running wild through the hallway like headless chickens—somehow without crashing into each other.】
【Oh, and once the dolls latched onto you, they covered your eyes with their hands—freaking terrifying when they suddenly moved!】
—
After an overwhelming flood of comments and Ye Yuxi’s summary, they finally pieced everything together.
The moment Liu Yuling took the baby out of the cabinet, dolls suddenly appeared on all of their shoulders—except for the NPC baby girl.
The instant they made contact, the dolls “came to life,” letting out eerie giggles before reaching up to cover the players’ eyes.
From there, each of them started seeing hallucinations of terrifying figures and their teammates fleeing, causing them to panic and bolt in different directions.
In reality, though, not a single one of them had managed to run downstairs.
Eventually, Ye Yuxi was the first to realize something was off. The moment she snapped back to her senses, the doll on her shoulder simply detached itself.
Then, one by one, she pulled her teammates over, trying to snap them out of it. But no matter how loudly she shouted, it was useless. Their eyes remained blank with pure, unfiltered stupidity, looking as if they couldn’t hear a thing.
Ye Yuxi had no choice but to… apply a little force.
After hearing the full explanation, Ji Yu’s face cycled through red with anger, green with shame, then pale with embarrassment.
So after all that, Miss Y had actually been saving him just now, and he had yelled at her for it?!
Scratching the back of his head awkwardly, he muttered an apology, “Uh, my bad. I misunderstood you earlier… You’re actually a pretty nice person.”
Hearing this, Ye Yuxi gave him a long, indescribable look, thinking to herself that this fish had a kind of untouched innocence, untainted by the harsh realities of life.
Meanwhile, Wang Yuze remained on high alert, glancing warily around.
Ever since discovering a doll had silently appeared on his back, he’d been on edge. His nerves stretched thin.
“Isn’t it weird, though?” he finally spoke. “Why didn’t those dolls actually hurt us? They only made us hallucinate.”
Liu Yuling, who had been leaning on Ye Yuxi for support, finally felt her strength returning.
She had been marked by the doll earlier, which made her the most affected by its paranormal influence.
It was only now that she felt fully clear-headed, no longer having her thoughts constantly pulled by some mysterious force.
She glanced down at the doll on the ground—only to realize, with shock, that its once hateful expression had changed.
Its mouth had curled into an eerie grin.
How to put it…? It gave her a very bad feeling. Like when you beat up the annoying neighborhood kid, and then—
Whoosh—
A fierce wind howled.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Every half-open door in the hallway slammed shut under the force, leaving only one still ajar.
From inside that room came a slow, grating sound, like nails scratching against the floor.
A few seconds later, a pale, slender doll-like arm squeezed out through the gap.
It moved fast—so fast that in the blink of an eye, its head and upper body had also emerged.
The moment its bloodstained, tangled hair came into view, Ji Yu’s face turned deathly white.
He would recognize this form even if it turned to ash.
This was the same ghost that had grabbed his hand in the dark after the power went out!
Liu Yuling was equally stunned.
Wait, what? Even ghosts followed the rule of “beat the small one, and the big one comes after you”?!
Ye Yuxi, upon hearing that horrifying scraping sound, had already turned around and started running. Noticing that her teammates weren’t moving, she helpfully reminded them—
“What are you all standing there for? Waiting to get scared? Run!”
That finally snapped them out of it, and they took off at full speed.
Especially Ji Yu—he was practically ready to wrap himself in a blackout cloth, terrified of becoming the “chosen one” for some ghostly cuddle session again.
Just as Wang Yuze started running, he suddenly heard a child’s giggling right by his ear.
A powerful, unseen force yanked at the arm holding the baby.
The infant, already burning up with fever and unconscious since her rescue, suddenly whimpered in distress, sensing an intense threat.
Wang Yuze hesitated for just a moment, but in that instant, something tugged at his heartstrings.
Without thinking, his instincts kicked in—
He let go of the flashlight in his left hand and tightened his grip around the baby in his right.
Clatter.
The force pulling his arm vanished.
The flashlight hit the ground, flickered once—
And went out completely.
The second floor had no windows.
Now, they were plunged into absolute darkness.
