Giving Interstellar Players a Horror Ghost Game Shock - Chapter 86
“Gege, this one’s yummy.”
The little girl’s voice, almost brushing right against his ear, had changed somehow. Ji Yu could even hear the greedy sound of her swallowing.
“I’m so hungry…”
He didn’t move—not because he didn’t want to run, but because his body was frozen in fear, completely paralyzed.
His thoughts kept bouncing between “I’ve run into a man-eating monster” and “What the hell is this?!” before finally settling on one clear plea:
I’ve said it a hundred times—I’m really not tasty! Please, just let me go!
While Ji Yu was silently despairing, on the other side, Sheng Qingye—who had played the demo version—deliberately chose a spot close to the six people, double-checking that there were no willow trees nearby and that the location didn’t match any known ghost story features.
—“Ghost story” was a term she’d heard Ah Yuan use earlier, and the more she thought about it, the more fitting it seemed. Strange, unsettling tales—that was the very core of all these supernatural rumors.
As she quietly sorted through the fragmented bits of information she had, a couple of messages flashed by in the barrage of bullet comments:
【Honestly, I still think doing this during Ghost Festival is way too dangerous. That Yin-Yang Road is super cursed. I heard it’s crawling with vengeful spirits waiting to replace the living.】
【Yeah, plus Feng Ge isn’t with them this time. That guy’s got the real skills. Without him… this feels way too risky.】
Sheng Qingye’s heart stirred.
Feng Ge—that was the second time she’d heard the name. Earlier, Ah Yuan had just casually said he was back in his hometown, acting like it was no big deal. But from what the livestream viewers were saying, this “Feng Ge” might actually be someone special—someone who could keep them safe?
She began subtly probing the viewers, pretending to ask casually, to coax out more about Feng Ge. Soon, she pieced together a rough picture.
Apparently, Feng Ge was also an alumnus of Wenhe University, though he had graduated long ago. For some reason, he’d become an unofficial member of the Paranormal Research Club. No one—not even Ah Yuan and the others—knew his real name. Everyone just called him “Feng Ge.”
He was rumored to be a sorcerer and acted as a powerful “bodyguard” for this reckless little team. According to the chat, the reason they’d been able to come out of so many haunted places unscathed these past two years… was likely because of his protection.
Of course, Ah Yuan and the others clearly didn’t believe that. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be acting so fearlessly even in his absence.
That thought gave Sheng Qingye a headache.
She could already guess that, in terms of the game mechanics, Feng Ge was probably a genuinely powerful character. But right now, a distant flame couldn’t warm nearby frost. With him visiting his family, he likely wouldn’t be back before they finished tempting death. Who knew how the game planned to incorporate this character…
At that moment, An Zhi’s voice sounded from behind her.
“It’s over. Come here, quick.”
Sheng Qingye didn’t even turn her head and calmly asked, “One, two, three, four?”
“Center, number one.”
An Zhi’s hand landed on her shoulder. “It’s me.”
Only then did Sheng Qingye look back. After scanning the surroundings and confirming there was nothing unusual, she walked with An Zhi toward the NPC.
This was a code phrase they had agreed on beforehand. To guard against a ghost impersonating one of them, they had decided that any time the group got separated, they would have to verify identities with a code when regrouping—ten sets in total, changing to a new one each time.
The two hurried over to where the others were gathered. The five of them had formed a tight circle, all staring intently at a sheet of white paper on the ground.
Seeing them arrive, Ah Yuan quickly waved them over.
For some reason, her fearful expression wasn’t faked. It looked more like a mix of genuine shock and a kind of excited terror, as if something had truly taken her by surprise.
“Look! The ghost… it actually showed up!”
An Zhi’s face changed slightly as she stared at the paper.
She remembered very clearly that earlier, there had only been a circle crudely drawn in bl00d by Ah Yuan. But now, next to that circle, a new line of writing had appeared—scrawled in bl00d, the letters jagged and crooked:
One of you will die!
The seven of them fell silent, eyes locked on the message.
A suffocating atmosphere spread through the air. They all knew one thing for certain: Ah Yuan couldn’t have written this. Which meant…
A ghost had.
Even the normally composed NPC’s face had paled a little.
Ah Yuan’s question had been “Will something happen on the Yin-Yang Road this time?” And if this centuries-old spirit was telling the truth, then one of them was really going to die?!
Among all of them, Ji Yu’s face was the most terrifying—pale as a corpse.
Earlier, when the little girl had fixated on him, he’d genuinely thought he was going to die.
Was this message written by that little ghost girl? Was it a sign that she hadn’t let him go?
Meanwhile, in the livestream pools, several channels were already crashing and burning during this game.
(Author notes: P.S. In horror stories, the “mysterious expert” who always vanishes when things go south is a timeless classic~ ^ω^)
