Giving Interstellar Players a Horror Ghost Game Shock - Chapter 94
Sheng Qingye frowned as she read the string of system messages in front of her.
“The Divide Paths of Yin-Yang Road” not completed?
Why? Didn’t they already reach the endpoint safely? Could it be related to that missing guy in the black cap?
Or… was it tied to this newly introduced “exploration rate” value?
From the trailers, it was clear that the Yin-Yang Road was the core of the entire game—the central hub where all events converged.
And yet, after traversing it from start to finish, their exploration rate was only 10%? That was clearly abnormal.
An Zhi was also frowning, though her mind was elsewhere.
She had initially felt reassured letting Ji Yu go with Ah Yuan. After all, someone brave could often encourage someone timid.
But now that they were about to go to the girls’ dorm to play some Pen Fairy summoning game with Ah Yuan leading? She wasn’t so sure anymore.
Because Ah Yuan really knew how to court death.
First it was ghost-hunting livestreams, then carefully choosing a traditional ghost festival as the setting, and now it was all kinds of bizarre and obviously cursed games… Even when something went wrong, she didn’t stop—she kept going.
Even as a player, An Zhi couldn’t help but think: If no one in your team dies, who else would?
Still, regardless of her misgivings, the storyline clearly required three games to be completed. The third was obviously going to be Pen Fairy, so she couldn’t reasonably object.
But…
She glanced over at Ji Yu and thought, What about this kid? Does this mean male players can’t complete the three-game task?
Though maybe that was for the best. At least that timid guy probably wouldn’t—
And then she saw Liu Tian swaggering forward, one arm draped around the buzz-cut NPC and the other around Ji Yu, grinning as he turned back to the buzz-cut guy and said,
“Let’s pick up the pace, yeah? Since Ah Yuan’s already jumping in to play Pen Fairy, we can’t fall behind!”
“How about we go check out the basketball court near the boys’ dorm in the south courtyard? It’s almost midnight—perfect time to show the livestream audience the legendary Severed Head Basketball! Heh heh…”
Ji Yu felt like he’d just been struck by lightning.
Could they maybe try a little less hard to get themselves killed? Do they really have to attempt every single cursed activity out there?
Before they split up, Ah Yuan even made a point to shout,
“Liu Tian, remember to call us once you guys finish up! We’ll all grab a late-night snack together—you and An jie’s team are treating!”
“Huh? Why? I thought the winners had to treat?”
“You misheard~”
Their back-and-forth was lively and playful, full of life. The other NPCs around them were all smiling, seemingly having forgotten all sense of danger.
But An Zhi and Sheng Qingye only frowned deeper, sensing the air grow colder and their unease intensify. That fleeting warmth they’d felt earlier—when the NPCs joked around—was completely gone now.
And so, under Ah Yuan’s lead, the five girls headed toward the infamous West Building 13 girls’ dormitory.
Meanwhile, the four boys left via the south entrance, heading for the South Courtyard.
Most viewers were intrigued by the Pen Fairy game teased in the trailer, and they’d long since noticed that An Zhi and Sheng Qingye were the real leaders of the group. As a result, most eyes stayed locked on their livestream perspective.
Still, a small number of viewers stayed on Ji Yu’s stream—not because they expected any breakthroughs, but simply to see whether this guy was actually brave or just putting on a front while secretly being a coward.
At this point, though, the bullet comments had grown noticeably quieter compared to before. The current scene was just too eerie—so unsettling that even viewers separated by a dimensional screen were getting goosebumps.
[WTF WTF WTF! I am seriously freaked out! How are they all so calm when those things suddenly appeared?! They even started chatting?! Guys, anyone wanna cuddle up for warmth? I’m home alone and about to be scared to death here!!]
[This is beyond words. It suddenly feels like my house is full of… people. Like, the kitchen, the living room… even under the sofa… Hahaha, now that I think about it, I don’t feel lonely at all anymore!]
[Diagnosis: the person above has completely lost it after realizing their home is full of imaginary people. Certified insane.]
Even if viewers chose the first-person player POV for immersion, they weren’t actually affected by the in-game mechanics.
So when those three ghost things suddenly appeared and seamlessly blended in with the crowd, the viewers were the first to spot it—and were absolutely floored.
You can do that in a horror game?!
Liu Yuling glanced at the time in the top left corner of the stream.
“Thirty minutes have passed and they’re only just leaving the Yin-Yang Road. Looks like clearing the game isn’t happening.”
Ye Yuxi smiled and also switched her livestream feed to Ji Yu’s team.
“Not necessarily. From here on, even one wrong step could trigger a BE—bad ending still counts as an ending, doesn’t it?”
The players who chose to go toward the South Courtyard were about to trigger a major plot event in the game.
In-game, Ji Yu’s side.
They had left the Yin-Yang Road behind and were now walking down a deserted, silent path. The basketball court was already visible up ahead under the cover of night.
Ji Yu had originally wanted to walk next to the buzz-cut NPC who seemed just as timid as he was. But for some reason, every time he got close to him, he’d feel an intense, bone-chilling cold radiating off of him. In the end, relying on some animal-like instinct, he timidly edged over to Liu Tian instead.
Just then, a short ringtone chimed.
Ji Yu flinched and looked around, realizing after a moment that it was his phone ringing. Startled, he fumbled to pull it out.
Before he could even unlock the screen, a new text popped up in the notification bar:
[Brother Feng: Be careful. I’ll call you in a secluded spot later…]
“Hey, what are you looking at?”
Ji Yu jumped in alarm and looked up, only to find the buzz-cut guy staring at him with a cold, menacing expression!
