During the day, it rained, and in the evening, the air was exceptionally cool and moist. The bedroom door was slightly ajar, casting the shadows of the two embracing figures on the floor, with a gentle breeze blowing.
“How do you want to sleep tonight?” Shu Yubai gently squeezed her fingertips and asked softly.
“Are you no longer having a stomachache?” Nan Xue stood opposite her, her slender, porcelain-like jaw and bright eyes sparkling. She looked at Shu Yubai with a hint of cautious probing, unable to discern her current mood.
“What do you think?” Shu Yubai affectionately kissed her nose, then looked up at her, sighed softly, and whispered, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have acted like that earlier.”
Nan Xue suddenly widened her eyes.
Just now, Shu Yubai had suddenly turned cold, leaving Nan Xue anxious, thinking she had done something wrong.
But it was Shu Yubai who apologized first.
Nan Xue nervously placed her pale hand on Shu Yubai’s waist, lowered her head, and let her dark hair fall. The cool breeze lifted it, revealing her thin, white jaw and her full, delicate red lips, looking very pitiful and endearing.
Nan Xue was always very pretty.
Standing in the moonlight, the cool, faint glow illuminated her translucent skin, making her look unbelievably beautiful.
In her long moments of worry, Shu Yubai’s complex and tangled thoughts strayed into an unexpectedly unserious direction.
Looking at Nan Xue, Shu Yubai’s mind went blank, and she suddenly couldn’t think of anything except one inappropriate thought: – She’s so beautiful.
Shu Yubai’s heart started to race.
For no reason at all.
“What’s wrong?” Nan Xue asked, looking at her with those clear, beautiful eyes.
“Nothing.” Shu Yubai suddenly lowered her head, coughed lightly, afraid of being seen through, feeling her cheeks warm.
“How about I come out?” Nan Xue was still dwelling on the earlier unpleasantness and sighed, leaning against the table, “I’m afraid you’ll be unhappy if we keep hiding.”
“Come out?” Shu Yubai shook her head. “It’s not that easy.”
“Isn’t it?”
Nan Xue looked at her, “Auntie doesn’t support it?”
Shu Yubai lowered her head and smiled, “You mean my mother? She indulges me a lot. She supports whatever I do, and she’s very open-minded. Coming out isn’t a problem. I’m worried about your father.”
Nan Xue was silent for a moment.
The moonlight cast small shadows on her curled eyelashes, stretching over her translucent nose.
The two of them leaned against the wooden table by the window. At this moment, everything was silent. The courtyard had a chilly atmosphere, with wind blowing through the gaps in the window, causing the white curtains to sway.
Afraid Shu Yubai would be cold, Nan Xue walked over, reached out, and closed the window.
Then, she closed the door too.
“Sister, I’ll go talk to him,” Nan Xue said softly, lowering her eyes. “This way, you don’t have to worry.”
Shu Yubai shook her head, looking at the girl’s face in the moonlight. Her dark hair framed a pale, thin face that filled Shu Yubai with worry and unease.
Shu Yubai sighed and softly asked, “What if your father doesn’t agree?”
Nan Xue held her hand, lowered her eyes, and gently squeezed Shu Yubai’s soft, slightly red fingertips, indifferently asking, “What are you afraid of?”
Shu Yubai sighed, “I’m afraid of us being separated.”
Separated.
Nan Xue was also afraid, but she didn’t understand.
Wouldn’t people only separate if they didn’t like each other anymore? If they still had feelings for each other, what difference would her father’s disapproval make?
People break up when there’s no more affection.
Shu Yubai leaned closer to hug her. “We’ll be low-key for now. When things are more stable and mature, we’ll talk about it. That way, it’ll last longer.”
Lasting longer was good.
But emotions were too fickle. From childhood to now, Nan Xue had witnessed too many separations and betrayals. She was always uneasy, wanting to keep Shu Yubai by her side forever, fearing something would go wrong.
“Will there ever be a day when you fall out of love with me?” Nan Xue asked vaguely by her ear. (TN: 😭. Nan Xue is the one who needs a sense of security the most. This brat is afraid of being abandoned.)
“No,” Shu Yubai smiled at her, “I’ve liked you for so many years. How could I just stop liking you? What are you thinking about? I’m afraid you’ll stop liking me…”
Her words were cut off.
Nan Xue lowered her head, seeking her lips in the dark.
The room was unlit, completely dark. In the quiet, Shu Yubai looked up and saw the faint outline of Nan Xue’s face. So slender and beautiful. Her ice-cold nose, red lips, and those clear, pure eyes.
At night, there were sounds of breathing.
She leaned into her, passionately.
Outside was pitch black, the moonlight barely illuminating the outline of the trees. Inside, the doors and bed were closed, with only a layer of translucent white gauze gently swaying. They were leaning against the window, deeply kissing.
Nan Xue held her with one hand. After a moment, she paused, raising her slender white fingers in the moonlight to show Shu Yubai, and whispered in her ear, “It’s wet.”
“I know.”
Shu Yubai lowered her head in embarrassment, her ears turning red. “You don’t have to say it out loud.”
“Saying it out loud makes it more real.”
Nan Xue looked at her, her white earlobes tinged with red, and softly explained, “Sister, I… found this out from research.”
Shu Yubai: “…”
What kind of improper research was she doing?
The curtains were closed, and the enclosed space felt warm and safe.
Nan Xue’s ears were slightly red.
Shu Yubai couldn’t help but laugh, hooking her arm around Nan Xue’s neck. She tilted her head up to kiss her back, her fingers stroking Nan Xue’s white neck, damp with a bit of sweat, and softly said, “Actually, you don’t need to know so much.”
“As long as it’s you, whatever you do to me, I’ll feel it. Do you understand?”
“Really?”
Nan Xue’s words trailed off, her body suddenly pausing. She asked, “Sister, what are you doing?”
Shu Yubai had taken off her jacket.
With her fingertips, Shu Yubai unzipped it. The thick jacket fell open, leaving only a thin undershirt inside, very sheer, clinging to her slender figure.
She had a youthful figure, like the tip of a lotus flower.
Shu Yubai’s hand on her neck paused for a moment before moving down, her touch incredibly gentle.
Along her spine and waist…
Nan Xue shivered, her cheeks warming, and instinctively grabbed the hand causing trouble.
She took a step back, looking at Shu Yubai in confusion.
Shu Yubai: “Why don’t you try it, okay?”
She leaned her head against Nan Xue’s thin shoulder and softly said, “It feels nice. I told you to try it last time.”
Nan Xue backed away again, looking startled.
The room wasn’t large. In the dark, she took another step back. Any further and she’d be at the edge of the 1.5-meter-wide bed.
They stood by the bed, looking at each other.
Shu Yubai approached, wrapping her arms around Nan Xue’s waist, kissing her lips. Her cool fingers brushed against her cheek, then she kissed her neck, the kisses as soft as feathers.
Nan Xue: “What are you doing?”
Shu Yubai: “Taking care of you.”
••••
“What’s wrong?”
Shu Yubai paused, observing her expression.
Nan Xue shook her head and softly murmured, “I’m so shy.”
Shu Yubai: “…”
We haven’t even started yet, and you can’t take it?
Shu Yubai looked at her, her black hair framing one red ear, and her heart melted. She couldn’t help but kiss her ear, saying, “Why are you so cute?”
“Cute is for kids.”
Nan Xue looked at her. “Am I a kid?”
“You are.”
Shu Yubai raised an eyebrow.
“Then…”
Nan Xue leaned in and whispered something in her ear, her breath warm.
Shu Yubai froze, her cheeks instantly turning red.
“Okay?”
The girl held her hand, eyes full of longing.
Shu Yubai turned her face away, then nodded lightly.
In the moonlight, a soft white hand slowly undid a few coat buttons. The jacket slipped off, hanging on the coat rack behind.
With the coat off, the warm scent of the woman’s body became stronger.
Her skin was soft and white. Beneath the jacket, she wore a loose, soft knit top, pale yellow. The fabric on her smooth shoulders seemed ready to slip off at a tug.
Shu Yubai leaned against the headboard, looking down through the open neckline, seeing a dark hair whirl slowly moving.
She closed her eyes, her long, elegant eyelashes trembling incessantly, and her toes curling up.
••••
The next day.
“Hold on a second, I need to take this call.”
On the top floor of a building, at Nan Xue’s desk.
She was assigning tasks to her assistant when her phone rang. Nan Xue made a gesture, and the assistant stopped, waiting for her.
Nan Xue glanced at the screen; it was Shu Yubai.
She was wearing a thin long coat, with a white sweater and jeans underneath. The weather was still a bit chilly despite the warmth, making her look clean, neat, and elegant. She looked up and said to her assistant, “You can step out for a moment.”
The assistant nodded, placed the documents on the corner of the desk, and turned to leave.
Nan Xue waited until the assistant closed the door before lowering her head to answer the call.
“Sister?”
Nan Xue sounded a bit surprised.
Shu Yubai’s voice was soft and gentle, with a hint of a smile, “Still busy?”
“Yes.”
Nan Xue asked, “What’s up?”
Shu Yubai replied softly, “Hmm… nothing. I’m downstairs.”
Downstairs?
Nan Xue instantly stood up, instinctively looking out the window. From this height, she could see the busy traffic below, but the figures were too small to discern anything through the hazy glass.
“Do you want to have dinner together?”
“I drove over. Tonight, do you want to go somewhere to relax?”
Shu Yubai had been in a good mood these past few days, making great progress. After finishing the tasks her teacher assigned during the day, she couldn’t help but miss Nan Xue, so she hurried over to see her.
“Sister, wait for me, I’ll be right down.”
Nan Xue grabbed her bag.
She opened the door and walked briskly, her long legs striding with purpose.
The assistant watched her leave hurriedly, thinking, “…”
Leaving early?
She checked the time, there was still half an hour left.
Leading by example in leaving early… the assistant shook her head in mild disapproval.
After anxiously waiting for the elevator, Nan Xue finally reached the ground floor. As soon as the elevator doors opened, she looked out and immediately spotted the familiar figure standing by the staircase entrance.
Shu Yubai was wearing a beige coat with a plaid scarf draped over her shoulders, looking as warm and cuddly as a doll.
Her red lips curved into a slight smile. Unable to resist, she walked over and opened her arms as if to hug her.
Shu Yubai was startled and retreated into the stairwell, worried about being seen in the bustling area.
Nan Xue wrapped her arms around her waist, buried her head in her shoulder, and took a deep breath, whispering, “I missed you so much.”
Shu Yubai felt a wave of warmth in her heart and bent down to kiss her.
At that moment, Nan Xue’s phone rang briefly. She pulled it out of her bag, glanced at the screen, and then hung up.
“Who was it?” Shu Yubai asked.
“My assistant. I’ll call her back later.”
“Assistant?”
“Yes, her last name is Li.”
Nan Xue recalled and began to describe her to Shu Yubai:
“She’s quite young, very serious, ambitious, meticulous, and very responsible.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes, she’s also quite gentle and kind.”
“……”
There was a lot of praise in her words.
“Is that so,” Shu Yubai said nonchalantly, brushing her hair with her little finger. “What else?”
“……”
Nan Xue looked at her and suddenly stopped talking.
Nan Xue looked at Shu Yubai seriously and said, “She’s not good-looking.”
Shu Yubai: “……”
Nan Xue looked at her, smiled slightly, and asked, “Sister, are you jealous?”
“I’m not.”
“You are.”
“I’m not.”
“You…”
Shu Yubai’s cheeks turned red, partly embarrassed and partly flustered, especially since Nan Xue kept asking as if she was doing it on purpose.
She leaned in and couldn’t help but kiss Nan Xue.
At that moment, there was a flash of white light.
So quick it seemed like an illusion.
