She’s Just Too Hard to Win Over [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 16
The touch of Ning Xue’s lips felt like a balm that eased the pain in Jing Ling’s head the throbbing disappeared, leaving only a lingering sweetness in her mouth.
The faint fragrance coming from the girl helped clear her muddled thoughts, yet it also awakened a different, more uncontrollable desire.
“Don’t bite me!” Ning Xue yelped, pushing her away with all her strength.
What was wrong with this person? Why did she always bite whenever something happened? The teeth marks from earlier in the day hadn’t even faded, and now she was biting her neck again.
Was she… mutating or something?
Having gone through too many strange and bloody missions, Ning Xue’s imagination instantly spiraled out of control. Her gaze toward Jing Ling grew increasingly wary.
“Don’t tell me you’re actually a vampire? You know, the kind that transforms under a full moon?”
Otherwise, how could she explain this? Someone who couldn’t even bear to be touched before, suddenly becoming so.
…clingy.
Like a big dog that refused to let go. How was this reasonable?
This didn’t make sense at all.
Jing Ling’s headache flared again. She clenched her teeth and pulled Ning Xue into her arms.
“If I said I was, would you be afraid of me?” Jing Ling’s voice was low, unreadable.
Ning Xue wasn’t exactly afraid, but the sound of her grinding her teeth sent chills down her spine.
Was she really going to bite her?!
The dim bedside lamp cast a hazy glow. Jing Ling’s face was half-hidden in shadow, her eyes — already cold by nature looked even deeper, almost ghostly.
As she leaned closer, her breath brushed against Ning Xue’s ear and neck, warm and unsteady, making Ning Xue’s body tremble and her back arch instinctively.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?”
Her voice came with another kiss. Ning Xue turned her head away on instinct her reflexes acted before her brain did.
Thud!
The world went silent.
Ning Xue opened one eye to peek Jing Ling had fainted. Her nose was red, showing clear evidence of being hit.
Ning Xue quickly retracted her hand, feeling a wave of regret. She shouldn’t have done that to someone who was sick. If Jing Ling woke up angry, she’d be in trouble.
Thinking that, Ning Xue decided not to stick around. She slipped off the bed and ran home.
By then, her mother was already asleep. Ning Xue didn’t want to disturb her, so she just pulled a thin blanket over herself and lay down on the sofa.
Cold silver moonlight spilled through the window, washing her face pale. She tossed and turned, unable to sleep, and finally muttered under her breath.
“So it’s true… people really do transform during a full moon.”
The system, unable to bear it any longer, materialized in a flutter of white feathers.
Can you not let your imagination run so wild? This is a modern world no supernatural nonsense. And for the record, vampires don’t transform under the full moon. That’s werewolves.
Was this really the same host who had survived three hundred years of missions and countless near-death situations?
Truly questionable.
Then how do you explain her sudden change? She was all over me, kissing and biting.”
Ning Xue’s voice trailed off, growing quieter. For once, she actually sounded embarrassed.
The system had been present the whole time. It had seen everything Jing Ling did to her. Just realizing that made Ning Xue squirm in discomfort being watched during something like that felt unbearable.
Even her face started heating up.
The system answered calmly: 【Isn’t it possible that she likes you?】
The system: ……
Too aggressive.
That was a perfectly logical conclusion derived from precise analysis, and she dismissed it in one word and not even a polite one.
Fine then. Let her figure it out herself.
The day’s events had shaken Ning Xue too much for her to think clearly. She instinctively rejected the idea.
After all, she had always thought she and Jing Ling shared a pure friendship. How could Jing Ling possibly like her?
Their friendship was a shining example of sisterly camaraderie sacred and untouchable!
Even though she had never fallen in love, she had seen plenty of tragic romances during her missions. Love, in her experience, was nine parts sorrow and one part disaster definitely not something worth getting involved in.
She only wanted to earn money and live comfortably. That bastard, however, wanted her dead.
The sound of that person’s clear, melodious voice echoed in her ears again.
Truly, the more beautiful something was, the more dangerous it tended to be. Even a lovely voice could be venomous.
Jing Ling existed within a world that she controlled there was no way she wasn’t affected by it. Maybe this strange emotional development was just something that person had added in for fun.
Probably the twisted amusement of a centuries old woman bored out of her mind.
A cold breeze swept through, and Ning Xue instantly pulled the blanket tighter around her.
“Fine, fine, I’ll stop talking about you behind your back!”
So petty. She couldn’t even think a few bad thoughts without being punished.
Her thoughts drifted back to Jing Ling again, and worry crept in. What if that punch had been too hard? What if Jing Ling woke up and didn’t see her would she panic?
“No! Stop thinking about her!”
She forced herself to clear her mind. Before long, sleep finally took her and she dreamed.
In her dream, she was kissing Jing Ling again. Only this time, their positions were reversed.
she was the one leaning over Jing Ling, pressing her down and kissing her deeply.
The soft touch of lips and the warmth of exchanged breath felt so real that she jolted awake, heart racing.
Why would she dream of something like that?!
Did she… actually have those kinds of feelings for Jing Ling?
No way. Absolutely not.
Emotions only slowed your sword hand and a heart without distractions swung truer.
Besides, she had approached Jing Ling with an ulterior motive. How could she deceive her feelings on top of that?
She had once thought about seducing her to get what she wanted, but after everything that happened, she couldn’t.
Jing Ling had no family, was distant by nature, and lived alone in that cold, empty house. Even when she was sick, no one came to check on her.
If the only friend she had also lied to her, wouldn’t that be too cruel?
Maybe Jing Ling was just lonely maybe that was why she reached out. Once she got better, everything would go back to normal.
The next day, Ning Xue didn’t go out at all. She even ignored Jing Ling’s messages.
Come Monday, she got up early, planning to leave before Jing Ling could find her.
But as soon as she opened the door, Jing Ling was standing right there.
“Morning,” Jing Ling said quietly. “Didn’t expect to run into you here. What a coincidence.” Ning Xue forced an awkward laugh.
Jing Ling’s eyes looked dim, her expression tinged with hurt.
“Why are you avoiding me?”
