- Chapter 16 - Terror Descends!
Han Xing carefully looted the corpses of the Dark Elves one by one.
[Obtained Damaged Wooden Plate Armor (White) x1, Obtained Wooden Sledgehammer (White) x1, Obtained Spirit Core x1, Obtained Blood of the Fallen x1…]
[Obtained Damaged Wooden Staff, Obtained Spirit Core, Obtained Wooden Bow, Obtained Blood of the Fallen x1…]
There wasn’t much of value on these Dark Elves. Besides some low-quality white-tier equipment, there were a few Spirit Cores and a strange drop of blood.
“Blood of the Fallen? What is this?”
Han Xing was puzzled as he noticed the dark bluish-green liquid now appearing in his bag.
Without any description provided on the material, he decided to set it aside for now.
Han Xing continued looting the corpses. When he reached the final Dark Elf, the mage he had killed with a precise arrow to the head, his eyes suddenly lit up.
Inside the mage’s pouch, he found a book.
[Skill Book: Fireball Spell.]
“A Mage skill book!”
Han Xing’s excitement was palpable.
Mages, one of the staple classes in many games on Blue Star, have lured countless players into choosing them early on.
In their imagination, Mages are beings who can wield lightning and fire, summon storms, and control the elements at will.
However, they soon discover that the Mage class is far from what they envisioned.
In the early stages, human survivors only have access to a normal explosive energy skill, with no other offensive options.
It’s not until they learn their first skill that they can unleash simple elemental attacks, significantly boosting their damage output.
Thus, skills like Fireball Spell and Ice Arrow Spell are highly sought after by Mages during the early game.
This Fireball Spell skill book, if placed on the Trading Channel, would undoubtedly spark a frenzy among Mages.
Of course, obtaining the skill book was an unexpected bonus.
Han Xing’s original goal was to locate a potential water source within the Dark Elf territory.
Looking around, he spotted a water pool roughly the size of a table in the center of the 5m x 6m platform.
Estimating its dimensions, the pool appeared to be at least 4 m² in size.
Though only 40 cm deep, a quick calculation suggested it held over 1500 L of water!
This is liters, not milliliters!
Han Xing’s breathing quickened.
“This is it… This time I really hit the jackpot…”
With so much water, how long could he survive?
If traded on the Trading Channel, how many resources could he exchange for?
The thought alone was overwhelming.
However, after the initial excitement, Han Xing noticed something unusual about the pool.
The water surface bubbled intermittently, and wisps of black smoke rose from it.
Suddenly, Han Xing recalled a system notification from before entering this area.
The Dark Elves had been performing some kind of summoning ritual.
Could this pool be their summoning medium?
Approaching cautiously, a system prompt appeared as expected.
[Spirit Spring Water polluted by dark energy. Currently undrinkable.]
Han Xing’s excitement quickly turned to disappointment.
But this feeling didn’t last long. Thick, dark mist began to rise from the pool, spreading rapidly around him.
“Something’s wrong!” Han Xing stepped back several paces.
Soon after, a second system prompt appeared.
[The Dark Elves’ sinister ritual almost complete, a powerful being from the Abyss is on the verge of being summoned, Human survivor, you are presented with two options:]
[1: Add ‘Blood of the Fallen’ to the pool, to complete the summoning ritual.]
[2: Use Spirit Core to purify the dark energy contaminating the Spirit Spring Water.]
[Please make your choice quickly.]
“Summon or purify?” Han Xing furrowed his brows.
Having played Sky Island Paradise for a while, he quickly realized he might have triggered a side quest.
From the description alone, it seemed significant.
Han Xing understood that his decision could determine the outcome of this quest.
“The Abyss… a powerful being,” Han Xing muttered, contemplating the system’s warning.
Meanwhile, the black mist rising from the pool thickened and began spreading faster.
Han Xing didn’t know what might emerge if he chose the first option and completed the summoning.
For safety’s sake, he made his decision in an instant.
“I choose the second option, purify!”

[…]
The system displayed a series of ellipses.
A sense of unease crept into Han Xing’s heart, something he had never experienced before.
“System, what’s wrong with you… say something… you’re scaring me!” Han Xing shouted, his voice trembling.
At that moment, he noticed the Dark Elf corpses that had been lying on the ground were suddenly enveloped by black smoke and vanished without a trace.
The next system prompt plunged his heart into despair.
[The summoning ritual is complete. Archdemon Julius is about to descend…]
“What?!” Han Xing’s face was filled with confusion and disbelief.
Simultaneously, a dreadful murmuring and whispering sound echoed in his ears.
Hatred, Anger, Fear, Malice…
A surge of overwhelming negative emotions flooded Han Xing’s mind like a tidal wave.
His head felt like it was about to explode. His vision blurred and darkened, and he could even see the shadowy forms of countless vengeful spirits, wailing and crying in agony.
Torn space,
Piercing wails,
His mental defenses were instantly shattered.
“Damn it…”
Han Xing clutched his head, struggling to stay conscious.
“No… I have to get out of here quickly…”
“Otherwise, I’m really going to die…”
Taking a deep breath, Han Xing gathered the last remnants of his strength and maneuvered his territory to retreat from the area.
However, when he glanced back unintentionally, despair washed over him.
In the pool of black smoke, a massive bone-white horn was slowly emerging.
Even though only the tip of the horn had surfaced, Han Xing already felt his breathing grow quickened.
A powerful aura began to spread.
At that moment, the sky within hundreds of kilometers darkened, as though shrouded in an unnatural night.
The sinister aura painted the clouds black.
In the face of this terrifying power, Han Xing was as insignificant as an insect.
Then, a burst of maniacal laughter echoed in the air.
“HAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHAHAHA!”
“After 3,500 years, this great archdemon shall finally emerge from that accursed Abyss!”
“Pathetic elves, weep and wail! I shall make you relive the fear and agony of the past! HAHAHAHA!”
BOOM!
Han Xing felt his territory tremble violently beneath his feet, as if something massive were about to break through the ground.
By now, the horrifying entity had revealed its entire horn.
The horn stretched nearly 20m long and 2m thick.
From this single enormous horn alone, it was evident how colossal the creature must be.
The terrifying presence continued its wild laughter, and the oppressive dark aura grew even denser.
The shadow of death loomed over Han Xing completely!
At that moment, the only thought flashed in Han Xing’s mind was:
It’s over…
