- Chapter 17 - The Archdemon
The demon’s laughter pierced directly into the mind, as the aura of death spread relentlessly.
Han Xing gritted his teeth tightly, desperately steering the Sky Island to flee.
Before him, the massive bone-white horn trembled slightly. The demon sneered coldly, “Hah, to think there’s a lowly human here. Fine, you’ll make an excellent first blood sacrifice for this king’s arrival!”
Han Xing’s expression turned grim upon hearing this. The bone-white horn began shaking violently—the demon was about to descend!
Just when he thought death was inevitable, the horn’s vibrations suddenly stopped.
Han Xing froze. The scene felt like the eerie calm before a storm, oppressive and suffocating.
He assumed the demon was gathering power for something and had already braced himself to confront the malevolent entity.
However, after a few seconds of waiting, that terrifying presence remained completely still.
“Hmm?”
Han Xing sensed something was off.
He lifted his head, gazing at the towering horn that pierced the skies, easily over twenty meters tall. Based on this, he could roughly estimate the size of the dreadful creature below.
By calculation, this demon’s body must stand at least a 100 m tall.
Yet, compared to its colossal frame, the summoning circle on the ground, just 4 m² in size—seemed completely out of proportion.
It was akin to a human extending their arm into a narrow pipe, foolishly expecting to emerge from it.
At that moment, a bizarre thought crossed Han Xing’s mind.
“Could it be… is he stuck?”
Without thinking, Han Xing muttered his suspicion aloud.
The previously motionless demon horn quivered slightly upon hearing his words.
The demon scoffed, “Hmph, lowly human. What could you possibly know about the grandeur of an Archdemon?”
Hearing this response, Han Xing became convinced he was really stuck.
The crushing sense of impending doom that had weighed on his chest dissipated entirely.
Han Xing’s lips twitched before he suddenly burst into hearty laughter.
“Haha! Hahaha! This is killing me!”
“This is the first time I’ve ever heard of a demon getting stuck in a summoning circle! Absolutely hilarious, hahaha!”
He laughed so hard he doubled over. “You’re such a disgrace to the demon race!”
“Human! Silence!” The Archdemon roared in fury. “Or I’ll crush you like the insect you are!”
But by now, Han Xing was certain that this demon couldn’t escape and became even more brazen.
“I’ve said it! and I’ll say it! Such a disgrace! Hahaha!”
Han Xing stood with his hands on his hips, shamelessly mocking while laughing wildly.
“Damn it!” The Archdemon, seemingly rattled by his laughter, snapped, “Human, don’t let me catch you, or I’ll trap your soul in the abyss to endure at least 10,000 years of torment!”
Han Xing suddenly stopped laughing.
He wasn’t frightened by the Archdemon’s threats. Instead, he turned and glared. “Look how lame you are, and you still dare to threaten me?”
“I seem to recall your name is Julius, right? Just wait! I’m going to record this scene and show it to everyone. The mighty Archdemon, stuck in a summoning circle!”
“Oh, and I’ll definitely tell the elves!” Han Xing added threateningly.
Every survivor’s system interface had a built-in recording and screenshot function, and Han Xing had indeed started recording when the demon appeared.
“Don’t tell the elves! Those filthy creatures are unworthy of beholding the visage of this great one!” The Archdemon, suddenly panicked, protested hurriedly.
“You think I’ll stop just because you said so? I’ll definitely tell the elves!” Han Xing insisted stubbornly.
“Y-you…”
The Archdemon seemed utterly exasperated by this human. After a moment, it sighed and said, “Fine, human, you win.”
“State your terms.”
Han Xing was stunned, but he quickly understood the implication.
This demon wanted to bribe him into silence?
Damn, does he think I, Han Xing, am such a person?
Feeling indignant, he declared righteously, “Let me tell you, I can’t be bribed!”
“Unless, you give me a blueprint! Lots of divine artifact equipment blueprints!”
“…”
The Archdemon appeared dumbfounded for a moment. Then it asked, “By artifacts, do you mean those toys forged by the dwarves?”
Han Xing, unsure of the world’s power structure, replied hesitantly, “Um… yeah?”
The Archdemon sneered disdainfully, “Those dwarven toys are nothing compared to abyssal demon technologies. Besides, we demons pride ourselves on our physical prowess and have no use for such things. So, I don’t have the blueprints you seek.”
“You don’t have it?” Han Xing continued to press. “Then why are we even talking about terms?”
“Fine, I’ll spread this recording to the elves now,” he said, turning to leave.
In truth, Han Xing didn’t want to waste any more time dealing with this guy. After all, this guy’s aura was indeed somewhat terrifying.
Given this guy’s overwhelming strength, even the slightest release of its power could probably kill him countless times over.
Sensing Han Xing’s presence growing distant, the Archdemon grew somewhat anxious. He immediately shouted, “Human, come back! Do whatever you want with the recording, but at least help this lord break the summoning ritual first!”
But Han Xing turned a deaf ear.
At that moment, the Archdemon finally shouted, “Human! If you help me break the summoning ritual, I will grant you a drop of Demon’s Blood!”
Han Xing still ignored him.
He had no idea what Demon’s Blood even was.
The Archdemon became even more agitated. “I also have a greatsword that this lord once used! Oh, just recently I picked up a Strange Beast Egg in the Alternate Space. I can give it to you!”
Han Xing finally paused. As he turned back, a system notification popped up before him:
[You have triggered an Extra Side Quest: The Archdemon’s Request.]
[Quest Description: The Archdemon is trapped in an alternate space and is unable to invade your world. However, the summoning ritual also prevents its return to the abyss. The noble Julius has humbled himself and sought your aid in breaking free.]
[Quest Rewards: Demon’s Blood, Demon Lord’s Greatsword, or an Unknown Strange Beast Egg. Choose one.]
[Be warned, this is not a system-issued quest. Survivor, please read the quest information carefully.]
“I really triggered a quest?”
Han Xing’s eyes flickered with hesitation. He had been wary of the demon all along, assuming it was trying to lure him closer on purpose.
Now, he realized the Demon Lord was genuinely stuck.
The Archdemon’s situation was indeed awkward: neither could it enter Han Xing’s world, nor could it return to its abyssal domain.
At the same time, Han Xing examined the properties of the three quest rewards:
[Demon’s Blood]: The heart blood of a high-tier demon. Upon fusion, it replaces your current bloodline with demonic blood, granting immense power. All attributes are increased by 10x, level-up attribute gains are increased by 3x, and you automatically class-change to the hidden class ‘Demon Hunter’.
[Demon Lord’s Greatsword (Red), Abyssal Demon Artifact, Quality – Epic, Attack Power 10,784~15,462, All Attributes +3,333, Additional Special Effect – Royalty (Wielders of this sword are immune to damage from demons below high-tier status), Additional Special Effect – Judgment (As a high-tier demon, you deal triple damage to creatures of lower rank), Additional Special Effect – Abyssal Flame (Successful attacks inflict Abyssal Flame, causing 10s of burn damage), Additional Special Effects…]
Soul Shatter :Lv60.
[Unknown Strange Beast Egg: Details unknown. Species unknown. Appears to have the ability to traverse Alternate Space and possesses a part of Void abilities.]
“Hiss…”
Seeing the quest rewards, Han Xing suddenly sucked in a cold breath.
You couldn’t blame him for his reaction. Each of these reward items was overwhelmingly powerful.
The Demon’s Blood appeared to be a rare item related to unlocking a hidden class. Fusion with it would immediately class-change him into a powerful Demon Hunter.
As for the Demon Lord’s Greatsword, its overwhelming stats and effects left no room for doubt, it was a weapon fit for the Archdemon himself.
Finally, the Unknown Strange Beast Egg… Although the system’s explanation was vague, anything valued by an Archdemon couldn’t possibly be ordinary.
Han Xing stared at the sky-piercing horn before him, hesitating for a moment, but his heart was already moved.
