- Chapter 2 - Merging Territory
“‘Hunter’ class successfully selected, initial equipment has been issued.”
“Personal territory generated successfully.”
The system notifications ended.
Tens of thousands of meters in the sky, suddenly there appeared a floating square block of soil, measuring 1 m in length, width, and height.
Han Xing stood on it, as if standing on grass, the height beneath his feet making his legs go weak.
In his hands, a faded wooden bow appeared unknowingly, and a quiver with 10 wooden arrows was now at his waist.
Information about the items appeared before him.
[Wooden Longbow (White): Quality – Rough, Attack Power 6~8, Special Effects – None.]
[Note: Made of oak and cow tendon, capable of damaging general 1-star creatures when the bowstring is fully drawn.]
[Arrow x10 (White): Quality – Rough, Attack Power 1~2, Special Effects – None.]
[Note: Arrows made by sharpening wooden sticks.]
Han Xing gripped the long bow tightly, feeling somewhat reassured with a weapon in hand.
Looking around, he noticed many clouds of various sizes and colors in the nearby sky.
Some clouds were as large as mountains, while others were as small as tables, about the size of Han Xing’s territory.
He knew the gameplay; these clouds hid floating sky islands, and all early resources, including food and water, had to be obtained from these islands.
He had to explore other sky islands quickly for supplies, or else he would soon die of thirst or hunger.
Han Xing began to control the square block beneath his feet to move forward.
After about ten minutes, Han Xing’s lips were already dry.
The clouds looked close, but were actually far away. With his current basic block’s speed, he could only travel about 10 km/h, which is less than 3 m/s.
Although the speed of the sky islands would increase with level upgrades, it was still too slow for now.
Another ten minutes passed, and Han Xing, controlling his territory, finally approached a small cloud that buzzed with electric currents. The system prompted: “A bundle of active thunder elemental power is gestating inside, do you wish to enter?”
Thunder elemental power? Are there monsters inside?
Han Xing pondered for a moment, then decided to give up.
After all, this was not a mobile game where you could respawn; the system had clearly warned them that everyone only had one life.
Han Xing controlled his small block to change direction and continued to float forward.
As he slowly approached a gray cloud, the system prompted: “There seems to be a bundle of evil power hidden inside, do you wish to enter?”
Dangerous! Give up!
Han Xing changed direction again and continued to float, drifting for another twenty minutes.
An hour had passed since he entered the game, and traveling through the sky islands not only consumed physical strength but also a lot of mental energy.
Suddenly, Han Xing felt stars bursting in front of his eyes and his throat began to dry.
He glanced at his personal information, and there was a change in the status section.
[Status: Thirsty, Mentally Exhausted.]
(Note: You need to rest as soon as possible, driving while fatigued is not good.)
“Rest? How do you expect me to rest in such a high place!”
Han Xing gritted his teeth in frustration.
Moreover, even if he could overcome his fear of heights, the space of his initial territory, being only 1 m in length and width, didn’t allow him to stretch out, and he could easily fall off.
Not just Han Xing was facing this situation; the circumstances of others were even less optimistic.
Less than an hour into this world, at least a million people had already fallen from high altitudes and lost their lives.
“No, I must explore the sky islands quickly and expand my territory!”
Han Xing shook his head to clear it and forced himself to look at the nearby clouds.
Just then, he saw a cloud about the size of his territory floating past him, tinged with hints of green.
A few minutes later, Han Xing finally approached this cloud, and the system prompted: “A faint life force is gestating inside, do you wish to enter?”
Hmm? There’s hope!
Han Xing felt a surge of joy and clicked to enter without hesitation.
The cloud dissipated, revealing a square of soil wrapped in green grass.
In the middle of the soil, there grew a tree not even 1 m tall, but with a trunk as thick as an adult’s thigh, and its dense canopy bore many red fruits.
[Berry Tree: The berries on the tree can be eaten directly, replenishing water and satiety.]
Han Xing, like seeing his parents reborn, nearly burst into tears of excitement.
He rushed to the Berry Tree and began stuffing the red berries into his mouth.
The fresh red juice burst in his mouth, bringing a slightly sweet and sour taste, refreshing Han Xing like sweet rain.
After a few berries, his hunger and thirst were somewhat alleviated.
Han Xing counted the red berries on the tree; there were more than twenty, each the size of a strawberry. If he ate sparingly, he could last at least two days!
Just then, a system prompt appeared.
[Do you wish to merge this piece of land into your own territory?]
Han Xing immediately clicked yes.
[Merging successful, your territory area has expanded.]
The system notifications ended.
Han Xing noticed that his 1 m³ block of soil had now expanded to 2 m³, and one of the soil blocks was planted with a Berry Tree.
Now, his hunger and thirst were resolved, but he was still very mentally exhausted.
Han Xing leaned back against the canopy of the Berry Tree and slowly lay down.
Half an hour later, Han Xing opened his eyes.
He had just woken up when he realized that he had somehow rolled to the edge of his territory, one arm dangling in mid-air, nearly falling off!
“Hisss!!!”
Han Xing sharply inhaled a breath of cold air, instantly waking up, feeling a series of frights in his heart.
“Damn, even sleeping isn’t safe, how do those who toss and turn in their sleep survive?”
Han Xing couldn’t help but complain inwardly, while a sense of crisis emerged again.
It’s impossible for people not to sleep, and no one can guarantee that they won’t unconsciously move while sleeping.
The initial territory is just so small; a slight shift could mean falling from a great height.
Therefore, their current top priority is to explore those clouds and expand their territory area, at least to ensure their own safety.
Thinking this, Han Xing looked around at the clouds again.
He had already explored earlier, and most of the nearby clouds hid dangers, namely monsters.
Han Xing knew that to survive, he would eventually have to confront these monsters, so it might be better to take the initiative while he was still in good condition.
“But for now, I can use my advantage to increase my combat power!”
