- Episode 39: After the Cherry Blossom-Filled Entrance Ceremony
The entrance ceremony, with the crown prince serving as the representative for the new students, had ended, and the anxious atmosphere of students trying to memorize each other’s faces had begun to settle.
The cherry blossoms that had been in full bloom during the ceremony had now given way to lush green leaves, offering shade and a peaceful spot for students to enjoy lunch beneath the tree.
It felt like a distant memory when A-ko, seeing the cherry blossoms, had mentally screamed, *“Japanese otome game!”*
“Are you getting used to your class yet?”
After the morning lessons, Gloria approached the spot under the cherry tree where Kate had been waiting for lunch preparations.
When she asked, Kate, who had been pouring tea, furrowed her brows slightly in a troubled expression and replied, “I’ve mostly gotten used to it, but…”
As a duke’s daughter, Gloria was in the upper class, while Kate, adopted into a viscount’s family, was placed in the lower class.
The upper class was made up of royalty, dukes, marquesses, and earls, while the lower class consisted of viscounts, barons, and baronets. There were also foreign exchange students who could occasionally be placed in the upper class, though none were present at the moment.
In her previous life, even the Saint had been in the upper class.
“Anything worrying you?”
Noticing the furrow between Kate’s brows, Cedric asked, his voice calm.
In the academy, students were allowed to bring their own drinks, but food had to be bought from the school cafeteria. However, Cedric, who had recently developed a taste for fine food, was indulging himself with a lavish lunch he had likely procured through his wealth.
He seemed to be quite true to his principle of “making faith visible,” as he frequently stated, “What matters is who and what we use the faith we’ve gathered for.”
Each time Gloria heard this, his lunches seemed to become more extravagant. Today, a dessert had been placed on the table, and the black box contained chocolates from the latest trendy shop in the royal capital.
Though Gloria hadn’t formally invited him to sit with them, Cedric had taken it for granted and was sitting there with the demeanor of someone who believed he was Gloria’s friend, even though he seemed to have no other friends.
Incidentally, the crown prince was not present.
He often invited Kate to meals, but each time, Kate declined politely, saying, “I will eat with my lady.” He had never invited Gloria to lunch.
“I don’t know if you two are aware, but there’s someone a bit unusual in our class…”
Cedric, who was nodding knowingly, seemed to recognize what Kate was referring to.
In his past life, Cedric had been quite studious but struggled with communication. In this life, he was more focused on building connections that could help him in business, making him well-informed and somewhat of a gossipmonger.
Gloria could easily guess who Kate meant.
A-ko, who was mentally processing this, seemed to have an idea as well.
“Is it Miss Salisbury?”
Before Gloria could speak, Cedric, grimacing as if swallowing something bitter, spoke first.
The daughter of Baron Melody von Salisbury. The same woman who had been the Saint in Gloria’s previous life.
In this life, neither the church nor the Hattlestone family seemed to have any connections with her.
If she had become the Saint in this life, surely Gloria, as the “Purple Guide” recognized by the church, would have heard about it. Therefore, it was highly unlikely that she had manifested any Saint-like powers.
Unless, of course, she was hiding that power for some reason.
Another notable difference was that, unlike in her previous life, she was not the biological daughter of the Salisbury family but rather their adopted child.
A-ko, puzzled by how the “otome game” storylines and the flow of her past life didn’t align with this situation, tilted her head. Similarly, Gloria wondered how Melody, who had been denied the path of the Saint in this life, had managed to enroll in the academy.
This strange fact, which didn’t match any of the expectations set by the otome game storylines or past life events, was something Gloria had planned to investigate further using her connections.
“Actually, she keeps bragging to me that, during the entrance ceremony, Sir Enbury, one of the prince’s attendants, praised her as… as an interesting woman!”
A-ko’s voice echoed in Gloria’s mind, and she could almost hear the sound of A-ko blowing her nose from the sheer absurdity of it all.
