Goddess, Are You Blind? (GL) - Chapter 16
Zhang Shuai felt a little awkward. He didn’t know what he should do. In this situation, he clearly felt like an outsider—he couldn’t join in the conversation, but he also didn’t dare slip away unnoticed.
He lifted his head to glance at Ji Yun.
Ji Yun was still smiling, quietly watching Xue Funian without saying a word.
Xue Funian kept waiting in silence. When she still didn’t hear Ji Yun speak, she started to panic.
“Jiejie… I…”
Before she could finish her words, Ji Yun suddenly laughed. “Do you still not know what kind of person I am, A’nian?”
As she spoke, she picked up the bowl in front of Xue Funian and carried it straight into the kitchen.
Hearing her speak, Xue Funian also broke into a smile. She stood up, pushed in her chair, and felt her way to the kitchen doorway. “Jiejie isn’t like them at all.”
Ji Yun looked back with a grin as she washed the dishes. “Baby, if those men heard you say that, they’d all be bawling their eyes out in the restroom.”
Zhang Shuai, who had been silently watching from the side, nearly burst into tears himself. Early in the morning and you’re already showing off in front of me, a poor dog watching the whole thing—I should be the one crying here!
Hearing Ji Yun still teasing her, the unease in Xue Funian’s heart finally eased.
Ji Yun quickly finished washing the two bowls, then poured a glass of milk and handed it to Zhang Shuai. She even gave him a smile while doing so—scaring him into thinking she might have poisoned the milk.
“Jiejie, about President Cheng…”
“I’ll go meet Ji Rui.” Before Zhang Shuai could finish, Xue Funian was the one who spoke up first.
Zhang Shuai looked helplessly at Ji Yun, but Ji Yun ignored him. Instead, she smiled, clearly in a very good mood.
“Mm. When do you want to see him?” Ji Yun guided Xue Funian to the sofa and helped her sit down.
“Whenever he wants to meet, that’s fine.” Xue Funian let out a weary sigh after she spoke.
Ji Yun caught everything in her eyes and smiled. “It’s been a long time since we’ve taken the dog out. The sun isn’t too harsh today—how about we go out for a drive?”
The dog, hearing this, immediately jumped up from his bed and rubbed enthusiastically against Ji Yun’s legs, wagging his tail like crazy.
Zhang Shuai was left dumbfounded. So I’m the only one getting abused here? Even the dog gets treated better than me!
He didn’t stay long—Ji Yun kicked him out under the pretense of “a beauty changing clothes—no peeking.” He could only sigh that dogs really did live different lives. Just look at how pampered theirs was compared to his own.
Ji Yun found some clothes and set them aside for Xue Funian, then guided her hand to the fabric. “Change first, I’ll go get the dog’s harness ready.”
She happily went to put the guiding harness on the dog, then peeked back to see Xue Funian dressed. She placed the leash in Xue Funian’s hand. “Today, let’s see how well the dog leads the way!”
The dog immediately straightened up, chest out, brimming with pride. Ji Yun couldn’t help laughing—the little thing really did have spirit.
With head held high, the dog steadily guided Xue Funian step by step, carefully matching her pace, until the three of them reached the garage. Only then did Ji Yun take the leash from Xue Funian and settle the dog in the back seat.
She opened the passenger door and gently helped Xue Funian in, fastening her seatbelt before returning to her own seat.
“A’nian, where do you want to go? Jiejie will take you.”
“Didn’t you say we’d just go for a drive? Wherever you think is good.”
Ji Yun glanced at her but didn’t answer, instead driving straight out of the neighborhood. As the car picked up speed and the wind grew stronger, Xue Funian finally spoke.
“Jiejie, why must you sign a contract with the Cheng family? Why insist on cooperating with them?”
Ji Yun glanced at her, raising a hand to smooth back the strands of hair the wind had blown across her face. “From your tone, it seems like you don’t want to work with the Chengs?”
Actually, Cheng Ji Rui was her senior from school, same major, and also her childhood neighbor. Xue Funian should have trusted him—after all, back in school, he had helped her plenty. It didn’t make sense for her to resist working with his family.
“I just don’t think much of their industries.” Xue Funian lowered her voice, then suddenly lifted her head again. “But Jiejie, I really don’t understand much about the company’s affairs. You must have your reasons for wanting this deal. Could you tell me?”
Ji Yun glanced sideways at her, catching sight of Xue Funian’s serious, beautiful face turned toward her, smiling softly. In the sunlight, her features looked even lovelier.
“True, the Cheng family’s industries aren’t great. That’s mostly because of Ji Rui’s wastrel uncle—he’s useless at business. But Ji Rui himself? His foresight is impressive. Take Haili Bay, for instance. He bought it up at a high price early on, when everyone thought it would never develop. And now? It’s one of the hottest vacation spots.”
Under Xue Funian’s gentle gaze, Ji Yun couldn’t hold back and laid out her thoughts honestly. “To be honest, whether he signs the contract or not doesn’t really matter to me. Haili Bay’s already developed—there’s no room left for me to stir things up.”
“Then why did you go out drinking so much, as if you wouldn’t rest until you’d won it?”
“A’nian, you don’t understand the battles between men.”
“But Jiejie, you’re a woman…”
Ji Yun choked for a moment—she had forgotten that. Embarrassed, she laughed. “What I can’t give up on isn’t Haili Bay. It’s something else.”
Xue Funian thought for a moment, then asked, “So which companies should we acquire now, and which should we give up? That old fox Qi Rui isn’t a good person either—he only wants to pocket benefits for himself. He even pushed for buying companies like Rongji, and who knows how much kickback he’s pocketed already.”
Seeing her frown with anger, Ji Yun couldn’t help laughing. “Everyone looks out for themselves. Corruption in companies runs deep. Some people dare to do it openly right under your nose, while others just hide it better. As you see more in the future, you’ll come to understand.”
As they talked along the way, Xue Funian learned quite a bit. When the car finally stopped, Ji Yun’s voice was cheerful: “We’re here.”
“Where is this?”
Ji Yun looked out at the wide expanse of golden sand. She first got the dog out, then carefully helped Xue Funian from the car.
The moment Xue Funian’s foot touched the ground, she felt fine grains of sand brush over the tops of her feet in her sandals—soft and delicate.
“The beach?”
“This is where I truly want to sign with Ji Rui. And it has to be you, A’nian, who seals the deal.”
