Goddess, Are You Blind? (GL) - Chapter 22
Not long after, Ji Yun returned. Xue Funian quickly stood up and started walking toward her, but Ji Yun grabbed her hand and lightly scolded, “Sit properly. Stop fidgeting.”
Xue Funian knew that Ji Yun was in a bad mood, but she didn’t take it to heart. She let Ji Yun guide her back to the sofa.
“I have a business trip today. On the way here, I called Aunt Qing and asked her to come take care of you for a few days. While you’re at home… um…”
Ji Yun didn’t know what else to say and trailed off. Xue Funian didn’t mind and gently patted Ji Yun’s hand, prompting Ji Yun to finally look up at her.
“Actually, Yue Feng likes you, right? It’s just that you’ve never accepted him.”
Ji Yun was both surprised and at a loss. Her thoughts suddenly became chaotic, and she didn’t know how to respond to Xue Funian, only managing a soft “Mm.”
“Why?” Xue Funian asked curiously. Her interactions with Yue Feng were peculiar. It wasn’t that Ji Yun disliked him, but it didn’t seem like she had feelings for him either.
Hearing Xue Funian’s question, Ji Yun turned her head to look at her, and her mind went completely blank. The thought rushing through her head was, “Do you believe that I like women?”
Damn, even I’m almost starting to believe it myself.
On the way back, Ji Yun kept thinking about the words she had blurted out to Yue Feng. Seeing Xue Funian’s face just now made her heart skip a beat, and she couldn’t say another word.
Seeing that Ji Yun didn’t answer, Xue Funian didn’t press further—it was a personal matter, and she shouldn’t pry. Still, she felt a little… uncomfortable.
Soon, Bai Qing arrived. Ji Yun was tidying up, and Xue Funian quietly sat aside listening. Nobody spoke, and the atmosphere was awkward. Even when Bai Qing entered, no one knew what to say.
When Ji Yun frowned and looked up at Xue Funian after finishing tidying up, she was momentarily stunned. Xue Funian was leaning her head in her hands, looking somewhat aimless, not a trace of displeasure on her face. It made Ji Yun feel slightly guilty.
“Do you want to eat dinner at home before leaving?”
At Ji Yun’s pause, Xue Funian quickly put away her bored expression and looked toward Ji Yun.
Ji Yun felt her chest tighten. She stared at Xue Funian, opening her mouth but unable to say a word.
“Yes, little Yun, have dinner before leaving. Aunt has already cooked,” Bai Qing said, smiling.
“No, A Nian, Aunt Qing, Zhang Shuai’s flight is just at this time. I have to rush to the airport now. There might even be traffic later,” Ji Yun replied, feeling a little guilty toward Zhang Shuai for this awkward predicament.
Xue Funian looked slightly surprised but finally just smiled and nodded. “Take care, and come back early.”
“You too, A Nian. Aunt Qing will take care of you at home. Take the dog for a walk, but don’t go too far. Wait—” Ji Yun wanted to say “wait for me to come back,” but the words got stuck. She only managed a small smile. “Behave, okay?”
With that, she turned and pushed her suitcase out. Bai Qing watched her leave, then glanced at Xue Funian, who lowered her head slightly, sighing softly.
By the time Ji Yun reached the airport, it was still very early. She idly waited, occasionally checking her phone, but ultimately didn’t know what to do.
Looking up at the glaring sun, she squinted slightly. It was already July, and the sun was blazing.
Throughout the day, she had been avoiding facing Xue Funian. Just now, when asked if she wanted to stay for dinner, she had almost blurted out that she wanted to, but after recalling her conversation with Yue Feng, she changed her mind.
After changing her answer, she noticed Xue Funian’s faintly disappointed expression, which made her chest sting slightly.
Ji Yun had never been in love. Ever since she was little, no one had made her heart flutter. Sometimes she thought she might as well just go through life without it.
There were plenty of people who had pursued her, like Yue Feng, a friend of ten years. She couldn’t even remember when she first met him, but she knew his intentions clearly—any attempt to take their friendship further.
Knowing was one thing; accepting was another.
Yue Feng had always been helpful and considerate, but as a colleague, she was fully aware of his capabilities and methods. She avoided meeting him alone.
Until just now, she realized she didn’t want Xue Funian meeting Yue Feng alone. She didn’t understand whether it was because she feared Xue Funian would learn of Yue Feng’s feelings, or because Yue Feng might try to take advantage of something from Xue Funian. She couldn’t understand her own feelings.
It was terrifying—an emotion Ji Yun had never experienced. She couldn’t control her thoughts and felt restless, only knowing she wanted to avoid the situation.
After receiving Zhang Shuai’s call, she rolled her eyes. “I’m already at the airport. Where are you?”
“Oh, sister, isn’t your flight at 8 PM? Why are you so early?”
Ji Yun was speechless. Checking the time, it was only mid-afternoon. Her brain felt like it was about to explode. “Wasn’t it at 4?”
“…”
“I’ll reschedule to the next available flight. You can come find me later.”
Zhang Shuai felt that Ji Yun was acting strange since seeing Xue Funian and Yue Feng, but he agreed.
Ji Yun did reschedule and flew directly to her destination.
Once everything was settled, she realized she hadn’t eaten all day and was a little hungry.
In her hotel room, she paced back and forth several times before finally lying down on the bed and closing her eyes.
Her phone rang suddenly, startling her. She quickly picked it up. It was a familiar number—the one she had gotten for Xue Funian, a simple keypad phone she had bought for her.
The ringing grew more urgent, and her heart raced. By the time the screen went dark, she realized it was a missed call.
She trembled as she opened it, seeing “A Nian” displayed. She hesitated for a long time, but didn’t call back.
She just stared, thinking, and decided to wait for Xue Funian to call again. But she dozed off, and Xue Funian never called.
When Ji Yun woke up, she saw her phone still on the simple home screen, no missed calls. Her heart sank.
That moment of disappointment left her chest heavy. She shook her head, took clothes out of her suitcase, and changed out of the wrinkled clothes she had slept in.
When Zhang Shuai came over, Ji Yun was already neatly dressed, hair perfectly combed, makeup flawless, and wearing high heels that radiated confidence.
He handed her organized materials and explained a few things. Ji Yun stood, picked up her bag, her fitted skirt riding up slightly to reveal her fair, beautiful legs.
He had known her for two years—always cold and aloof in public, sometimes barely speaking. Recently, though, something about her seemed different, though he couldn’t pinpoint what.
Ji Yun looked at the greasy, balding old man in front of her and felt waves of nausea, but forced a practiced smile.
The man smiled at her and handed her a cup of alcohol. Ji Yun looked at the full glass, silently cursing him, yet smiled as she took it.
Seizing the moment, he touched her hand. Ji Yun clenched her teeth and forced another smile.
Suddenly, her phone rang. She pretended to be startled, spilling the drink all over his pants. The man shouted and jumped up.
Ji Yun quickly apologized. “Sorry, Mr. Sun, I didn’t do it on purpose,” she said, smiling. The man, Sun Jichang, relaxed his tone and said it was okay.
She glanced at her phone and saw Bai Qing’s number. “Mr. Sun, excuse me, I need to take this call,” she said, walking out.
In the hallway, she snorted softly: “Bastard!”
She pressed the answer key, and Bai Qing’s anxious voice came through. Her heart jumped.
“Aunt Qing, what’s wrong?”
“Little Yun, A Nian has a fever that won’t go down and keeps saying silly things!”
Ji Yun’s heart tightened. Her voice trembled slightly. “Is it just a cold, or…?”
“There was a heavy rainstorm last night. A Nian stood by the window with her phone, refusing to sleep. She got sick overnight. We gave her medicine, but the fever won’t break…”
Ji Yun could barely hear the rest. Last night, she had been waiting with her phone, unaware that Xue Funian had been waiting for her to call back.
She couldn’t tell if her chest tightness was from guilt or worry. She looked back at the client waiting in the room and gritted her teeth.
“Aunt Qing, take A Nian to the hospital. I… I’ll handle things here and come back immediately.”
