Goddess, Are You Blind? (GL) - Chapter 23
“President Sun, I still have some matters to attend to…”
“Manager Ji, this contract… hasn’t been signed yet.” Sun Jichang looked up, smiling warmly at Ji Yun. Ji Yun raised her head and cast him a cold glare. At this confusing moment, Sun Jichang was startled to hear her let out a cold laugh.
Ji Yun’s mood was already sour. Thinking about Xue Fuyan still lying in the hospital made her feel restless for no reason.
Sun Jichang looked up and saw the cold smile on her face, her eyebrows slightly raised. Her makeup, already meticulously done, somehow made her look intimidating at that moment.
“I don’t care whether this contract gets signed or not. What I care about is knowing that you’ve been keeping a mistress while still married. If this contract doesn’t go through, President Sun, what will you use to compete with your wife? Now your family assets are in the hands of a mistress. I really don’t understand how you’re so sure I would sign.” Ji Yun’s voice was cold as she spoke. Then she laughed, picking up the contract and waving it in front of Sun Jichang. “President Sun, look carefully—I haven’t signed a single word.”
“You! You! You… Ji Yun! If you don’t sign this contract with us, let’s see how you carry out your plans!”
Ji Yun looked at him as if he were a fool. “Don’t you understand supply and demand? Your price isn’t the best. Even without the Sun family, isn’t it still under Boss Quan?”
She laughed again. “A man like you, who sees a woman and gets lustful, what use are you? If it weren’t for your father leaving you some inheritance, who do you think you are? I didn’t call you out before to save you face. In this business, heads up, heads down—we meet often enough—I was just being considerate. But now that you want to make a scene, do you really think I, Ji Yun, am afraid of you?”
With that, Ji Yun started walking out, waving her hand as she went. “Sorry, President Sun, General Manager Quan has been waiting for a while, so I’ll head over first.”
With a lazy arch of her brows, Ji Yun exited. She glanced at her hand, which had been touched by Sun Jichang, feeling disgusted. She pulled two sheets of paper from her bag and rubbed her hand hard until the back was red, then dropped the paper with a lowered head.
After getting into a taxi, Ji Yun called Zhang Shuai. “The negotiations with Sun Jichang fell through. Keep a close eye on Quan Zhi over there. I’m heading back first.”
“Sis, sis, where are you going?” Zhang Shuai panicked upon hearing that Ji Yun was leaving. Although they expected the talks with Sun Jichang to fail, he had never faced a client alone before—so naturally, he was nervous.
“What are you afraid of? Haven’t I taught you these past few years? Don’t chicken out. I have some matters at home, and I need to go back first. Remember to bring my things from my room when you come back. And if you fail again, don’t even come back.”
Zhang Shuai felt indebted to Ji Yun from his previous life. Before he could respond, Ji Yun hung up. She tried calling back multiple times, but it went straight to shutdown. He sighed helplessly—what could one do when life is so cruel?
Ji Yun headed straight to the hospital. Bai Qing was about to go home to make some millet porridge for Xue Fuyan but was worried about leaving him alone. When she looked up, she saw Ji Yun rushing in anxiously.
“Xiao Yun!”
Hearing Bai Qing call her, Ji Yun hurried toward her direction. She had been running in heels and must have twisted her ankle several times. Bai Qing noticed that her right ankle was already swollen.
“Xiao Yun, your foot…”
“It’s nothing, Aunt Qing. How’s Ah Nian?” Ji Yun asked as she peered into the ward.
Bai Qing shook her head, sighing. “Still running a fever, even after an injection. You came just in time—stay here with Ah Nian while I go cook some millet porridge. He hasn’t eaten all day.”
Ji Yun’s gaze remained fixed on the closed ward. Being tall and in heels, she could see through the upper glass window Xue Fuyan inside—his face flushed, brows tightly drawn.
In just a day, he already looked much weaker than when she had left.
Seeing Ji Yun just stand there, Bai Qing didn’t say anything and quietly left for home.
Ji Yun remained, frozen in place. Her legs went numb before she finally took a couple of steps and pushed the door open.
Perhaps because it had rained yesterday, the air in the city was unusually fresh. The sunlight was gentle on Xue Fuyan’s face, highlighting the tiny, delicate peach fuzz on his skin.
Hearing the door open, Xue Fuyan’s eyelashes twitched. He frowned but didn’t open his eyes.
Ji Yun couldn’t help smiling at the sight. She pulled a chair over and sat beside him, unsure of what to do.
“Dummy.”
“Sis?” Xue Fuyan’s voice was soft. He hadn’t really been asleep, just unwilling to open his eyes due to the fever, too lazy to move. He hadn’t expected Ji Yun to come.
Though in heels, Ji Yun had tiptoed in carefully to avoid disturbing him.
Xue Fuyan didn’t expect her either—she had left so hurriedly yesterday, missed his calls at night, and probably been too busy to respond.
Hearing her called his name, Ji Yun felt a pang in her chest. She finally nodded, her tone carrying a hint of reproach: “How did you get sick after just one day apart?”
Xue Fuyan opened his eyes slowly. Ji Yun hesitated to speak, watching his big, blinking eyes.
“The window was left open yesterday; I caught a chill from the rain.”
Ji Yun scoffed lightly and carefully helped him sit up. “Why are you opening the window late at night instead of sleeping?”
“I didn’t get your call, Sis. I was worried you weren’t safe. I thought I’d sleep after you called back. Didn’t expect it to rain so heavily.” Xue Fuyan smiled faintly. “Now that you’re back, everything’s fine.”
Ji Yun’s chest tightened. The feeling was similar to when she had said, “I like women” yesterday. Around Xue Fuyan, she felt the strange illusion that she… really liked women—but this woman was Xue Fuyan.
She cleared her throat to shake off the awkwardness and patted Xue Fuyan’s head. “Were you really worried about me?”
“Yes! I was worried since you didn’t answer, in case something happened on the road. Now that you’re back…” Before finishing, he felt his face being stretched by Ji Yun’s hand. “Ouch, ouch…”
“That’s so you’ll know it hurts! Didn’t I tell you to take care of yourself while I was gone? Did you just ignore me?”
Having scolded enough, Ji Yun looked at Xue Fuyan, who bowed his head slightly. Not knowing what else to say, she grabbed an apple and peeled it for him with a small knife.
“I won’t ignore your calls anymore.”
“I was wrong. You were busy and didn’t answer. It’s not your fault,” Xue Fuyan said nervously, sitting up to explain. Ji Yun glared but finally relented when she saw he couldn’t see her expression.
After peeling the apple into a perfect circle, she broke it into pieces and offered one to Xue Fuyan. “Ah—”
He obediently opened his mouth, and she fed him the apple. He ate it obediently, then smiled at her with satisfaction.
His smile lifted Ji Yun’s spirits, washing away the stress of the past two days. She wiped the juice from his lips and said, “Rest at home and get better. I’ll stay with you—let’s see what trouble you can still cause.”
Xue Fuyan leaned closer. “Sis, are you mad at me?”
“You tell me.”
“Sis, I know I was wrong. I won’t do it again. Believe me.” He scooted a little closer, and Ji Yun couldn’t help laughing at his anxious little expression. She nudged the knife carefully, afraid he would touch it.
“All right, you probably haven’t slept all night. Go rest. Aunt Qing is going to make you porridge, and I’ll wake you later. You better eat a lot.”
“Sis…” Xue Fuyan lay down with Ji Yun supporting him. “Did you finish work, or did I disturb you?” Despite being blind, he was sensitive to these things. Seeing her uneasy, Ji Yun said nothing more.
“So you don’t trust me to handle work?”
“I do! I just…”
“Fine. I’ve handled everything well. There’s nothing recent for me to worry about. Some things can’t be done by me alone. Let Zhang Shuai come—he’s just there for show. Ah Nian, go to sleep, or I’ll really get mad.”
Ji Yun spoke firmly. Xue Fuyan didn’t dare argue and shut his eyes.
Whether it was Ji Yun’s presence or the discomfort of his illness, he fell into a deep sleep.
Watching him breathe evenly, Ji Yun leaned forward to touch his forehead, checking if his temperature had dropped.
Lowering her gaze, she saw his long, dense eyelashes and felt her heart skip a beat.
When Bai Qing arrived, the sun was setting, casting a warm glow. Ji Yun leaned over the bedside, holding Xue Fuyan’s hand. Both had fallen into a deep, peaceful sleep. She didn’t want to wake them.
