Goddess, Are You Blind? (GL) - Chapter 24
These past two days, Ji Yun stayed at the hospital with Xue Funian. Several times, Xue Funian’s high fever wouldn’t go down, scaring Ji Yun so much she almost wanted to go chop the doctor up. Seeing Xue Funian’s face alternating between flushed red and pale white, her own heart fluctuated along with it, unable to calm down for half a day.
Ji Yun wasn’t stupid, and she wouldn’t deliberately avoid Xue Funian.
Her temperament was different from other girls—she wouldn’t run from problems. If something could be handled personally, she wouldn’t deliberately dodge it, and this was something she could handle.
When Xue Funian gradually began to recover, Ji Yun brought her back home. This way, she could take care of both her dog and Xue Funian at the same time.
Ji Yun asked Bai Qing to go home first to take care of her son, who would be taking the college entrance exam next year. Xue Funian felt a bit embarrassed and said she had wasted everyone’s concern over such a long period.
At home, the dog immediately ran over, sniffed Xue Funian for a long time, and only then whimpered and rubbed against her feet. No matter how Ji Yun tried to shoo it away, it wouldn’t leave Xue Funian’s side. Eventually, she gave up.
Ji Yun adjusted the room temperature to a comfortable level, laid a small blanket over Xue Funian’s legs, and then went to the kitchen to get busy.
Bai Qing had bought a pigeon from the market before leaving. Ji Yun carefully cleaned the plucked pigeon and put it in a clay pot to make a nourishing soup for Xue Funian—after being sick for several days, her whole body was weak, and seeing her like that made Ji Yun heartache.
“Ah Nian, do you want to listen to some music?” Ji Yun asked, glancing back to find Xue Funian already sitting across from her, propping her head up and listening to the clanging of pots and pans from the kitchen.
Ji Yun was momentarily stunned, then glared at her: “Just recovered from being sick, and you want to rebel?”
Xue Funian snorted and let out a soft laugh: “Sister, why didn’t you answer my call the other day?”
Ji Yun choked on her own words. How could she even respond?
Because… I think I might actually like women? Or more accurately, I think I might actually like you?
Holy crap! Can the “mission” still proceed? Or should I just blacklist her?
Seeing Ji Yun silent for a long while, Xue Funian’s eyes flicked, and she smiled: “Sister, do you have a boyfriend? Or were you just inconvenient to answer your phone that day?”
Ji Yun’s face darkened, and she leaned forward across the table, lightly snorting: “Sister doesn’t have a boyfriend. But I’m missing a girlfriend. Ah Nian, do you want to try?”
Even though there was a table between them, their faces were close. Every word Ji Yun spoke, every breath she exhaled, sprayed directly onto Xue Funian’s face, making Xue Funian, who had originally wanted to pry for gossip, blush instantly.
Xue Funian shrugged helplessly: “That makes sense. Today’s Qixi Festival, and I haven’t seen you on a date—so you probably don’t have a boyfriend.”
She nodded as she spoke, seemingly affirming her own words.
Ji Yun looked at Xue Funian’s little expression, unsure of what to say, but when she remembered that today was Qixi, she paused, turned off the stove, and hurried to change clothes.
“Are you going out, sister?”
Hearing her voice, Xue Funian stood up and followed behind Ji Yun, fumbling into the bedroom.
Before reaching the bedroom door, Ji Yun had already changed and stepped out briskly: “Ah Nian, wait for me at home. I’ll be back soon.”
Just as she was about to leave, she noticed Xue Funian tugging on her clothes. She couldn’t pull away forcefully, so she gently covered Xue Funian’s hand.
Before she could speak, Xue Funian said first: “Sister, you don’t have a boyfriend, and it’s not like you’re going on a date. Take me with you.”
Ji Yun was stunned. She had never seen this little girl act so clingy toward her. Her whole body went soft. Seeing Xue Funian’s pale lips and head lifted like that, she finally patted her hand gently.
“Ah Nian, you have to be good. You’re still sick, so wait for me at home. I’ll be back soon, really.” She gently let go of Xue Funian’s hand.
Xue Funian looked a bit disappointed, touching the hand Ji Yun had just released, and then heard Ji Yun closing the door as she left.
She was just reminding Ji Yun that it was Qixi. She’d been stuck in the room for several days and wasn’t exactly not bored, so naturally, she wanted to go out.
But in the end… it was just her and the dog, quietly sitting at home.
Xue Funian’s disappointment was obvious. Earlier, Ji Yun had seemed reluctant too, but thinking of her still being sick, she steeled herself and didn’t go back to see Xue Funian’s pitiful expression.
She was afraid if her heart softened, she’d bring her along anyway.
Xue Funian moved a small stool to the doorway, and the dog sat beside her, occasionally barking softly, keeping her company.
One human, one dog, quietly waiting.
When Ji Yun opened the door, she was startled by the pair standing at the doorway. Especially Xue Funian, sitting there, looking up at her—it made her feel as if she had done something unforgivably terrible, unable to meet her gaze.
Only when Ji Yun called “Ah Nian” did Xue Funian react.
Ji Yun took a small lucky pouch from her bag, the little bell on it jingling clearly. Xue Funian then stood up.
Ji Yun pulled Xue Funian’s hand and placed the lucky pouch in it: “I went to pray for this.”
“Sister, today is Qixi. Everyone prays for romance. What are you praying for?”
“I prayed for safety. Look at you, you’ve been sick like this. Of course, I have to pray for your safety!”
Xue Funian twitched her brows but eventually smiled, feeling warmth in her heart.
“Sister went to Nanshan Temple to pray for me. Why didn’t you take me?” Xue Funian pouted, pretending to be displeased, clutching the pouch tightly. “Sister, you went to pray for romance, right? Did you also pray for my safety?”
“You little ungrateful thing, you’re so shameless. I only prayed for your safety, of course. Now I still have to make you soup.”
“That won’t do.” Xue Funian saw Ji Yun about to walk back to the room and quickly pulled her: “It’s Qixi. Since you went, if you don’t pray for romance too, it shows no sincerity. Sister, you have to take me with you, we’ll pray again.”
Ji Yun was stunned. She had never gone to pray before, and didn’t know all these subtleties. She only saw that Xue Funian had been seriously sick the past two days, looking thinner, and remembered what the elders had always said about Nanshan Temple prayers being effective. Never having believed in it, she had no way to tell if it was true.
“Really?”
“Why would I lie to you, sister? I also heard that prayers work better if the person is present. So, are you really not taking me to pray again?”
Hearing this, Ji Yun’s head went hot: “Alright, change clothes. I’ll take you to pray.”
Xue Funian’s pale face, now tinged with blush, lit up with a smile.
Ji Yun carefully placed the bell-adorned lucky pouch in her bag, the little jingles ringing as she walked.
Once outside, Ji Yun realized she’d fallen for the little girl’s scheme.
Whether it’s “effective” or not, she had never believed in it. And now, after being tricked by this little girl, she was bringing her out while she hadn’t fully recovered from being sick.
But once outside, looking at Xue Funian’s happy little face, the earlier annoyance vanished.
As long as Xue Funian was happy, that’s what mattered. And maybe staying home might have caused some other trouble anyway.
On Qixi, the temple festival was crowded with couples. Ji Yun kept a careful eye on Xue Funian, afraid someone might bump into her.
Not many people really believed in this, but it didn’t matter—they were together, and praying together served as a witness to their moment in time.
Even if some couples eventually separate, this was their now.
Seeing Xue Funian kneel, bowing her head in prayer beside her, Ji Yun suddenly understood: even if some people separate in the future, at this moment, the person kneeling next to you is willing to walk the future together. No matter what changes come, the feelings in this moment are sincere.
Ji Yun knelt and bowed, following Xue Funian’s lead.
“May we be together, no matter what comes, as far as we can go, may we walk toward tomorrow.”
Xue Funian also got a small lucky pouch, smiling as she opened her palm and showed it to Ji Yun: “This is my prayer for your romance. You’ll find someone good.”
Ji Yun laughed too and gave her own pouch to Xue Funian: “This is my prayer for your romance. You’ll find someone who treats you well.”
“It’ll be me!” Xue Funian thought.
Xue Funian didn’t refuse. She took the pouch Ji Yun had given her—a safety charm and a romance charm. Thinking about it made her heart feel warm.
Ji Yun reached out and hugged Xue Funian, smiling at the crowd. Her smile was brighter than today’s sunshine: “Anyway, we’re out. Let’s have fun before going back.”
“Really? Sister, do you know about the Qixi Lantern Festival? Tonight, this street will be full of lanterns. Can we see them all before going back?” Xue Funian asked excitedly.
Ji Yun thought for a moment and nodded: “I’ve heard about it but never seen it. Did you come before?”
“Actually, I’ve only heard about it too. Can we see them all before going back?”
Ji Yun smiled: “Sure, whatever you want, we’ll stay until you’re happy!”
