Goddess, Are You Blind? (GL) - Chapter 28
Xue Funian wouldn’t be able to have her stitches removed for another three months. For now, a band of white gauze was still wrapped around her eyes.
When Ji Yun saw her being wheeled out of the operating room, her hands were trembling. Fortunately, the doctor told her the surgery had gone well. When the stitches came out three months later, Funian should be able to see again.
Only then did Ji Yun finally let out a breath of relief. Over the following days she stayed by Funian’s side constantly. Whenever Funian was awake, Ji Yun would chat to her about recent happenings—things at the company, the dog, even bits of celebrity gossip.
Funian didn’t just quietly listen anymore. From time to time she would follow Ji Yun’s lead and respond. The atmosphere between them was warm and lively. When Zhang Shuai visited and saw them, he couldn’t help thinking that the only person capable of taming Ji Yun was Funian.
When Zhang Shuai called Ji Yun out of the ward, Funian tilted her head in his direction, her face showing open bewilderment.
Ji Yun frowned, patted Zhang Shuai on the shoulder, and signaled for him to wait outside.
Zhang Shuai sighed helplessly. He didn’t dare tell Funian the truth, so he obeyed Ji Yun and waited in the hallway.
“Jiejie, is there something wrong?”
Funian wasn’t foolish. Even though she couldn’t see, she could sense from the smallest details that Ji Yun and Zhang Shuai were hiding something from her. She didn’t press the issue, only lifted her head toward Ji Yun.
Ji Yun could never resist Funian when she looked like that. She placed the things Zhang Shuai had brought on the table, then turned her head toward her.
“Zhang Shuai just has some company matters to discuss with me. I’ll step out for a while.”
“Jiejie, has something happened at the company lately? You seem very busy.”
Her words stopped Ji Yun mid-step. She turned back to look at Funian.
Ji Yun had been at her side every day—how could Funian tell she was busy? Without her eyesight, this little fox was even sharper.
When Ji Yun didn’t answer, Funian only smiled faintly.
“Jiejie has been going to sleep very late. Several times I’ve woken and heard you still on the phone.”
“Did I wake you?” Ji Yun hadn’t realized her late-night calls might disturb Funian. Thinking back, she remembered how lightly Funian slept. She’d have to be more careful from now on, best to take calls outside.
But Funian hadn’t meant it that way. Startled that Ji Yun had missed the point, she gave a soft laugh and shook her head.
“No. I just mean, if you have work to do, you don’t need to sit with me all the time. Handle things first, then come. Otherwise, if you don’t rest properly, it isn’t good for either of us.”
Her voice was light, her eyes hidden beneath gauze bandages. Ji Yun still hadn’t gotten used to not seeing them.
Ji Yun stepped forward, half-kneeling by the bedside, pinching Funian’s soft cheek with a smile.
“My sensible girl. I’ll just talk with Zhang Shuai for a bit and come right back. You lie down a while longer.”
Funian almost wanted to say she was already lying down so much she was about to mildew, but in the end she only listened as Ji Yun’s footsteps faded, the door closing behind her.
Ji Yun leaned against the window for a moment, feeling the sunlight warm her face.
“Jiejie, you’d better come back with me first,” Zhang Shuai urged as soon as she stepped out, tugging at her arm.
Ji Yun froze, pulling him back sharply. “What’s going on?”
“The contract you signed with Quan Zhi had loopholes. The whole company is scrambling now. Manager Yue said he must see you today.”
Ji Yun didn’t move or speak. Since the last time she’d met Yue Feng to settle a contract issue, she hadn’t seen him again.
Though she often returned to the company for business, somehow they always missed each other, as if by silent agreement. And even if they hadn’t, she wouldn’t know how to face him.
Years ago, when Yue Feng confessed, she had been able to treat him calmly as just a colleague. But now it wasn’t so simple. Every time she thought of him, the words “I like women” echoed in her mind.
If it had only been an excuse, it would’ve been nothing. But when Ji Yun truly realized it was fact, guilt gnawed at her. She’d wasted years of Yue Feng’s devotion.
Seeing her lost in thought, Zhang Shuai grew anxious. “Jiejie, please, I’m begging you. Take this seriously. Come with me now. I’ll call Aunt Bai to look after her, alright?”
Ji Yun raised her head, saw Zhang Shuai’s worried face, and realized the matter must indeed be dire.
If Yue Feng had been avoiding her all this time but now insisted on seeing her, then things must be worse than she thought.
“I’ll just tell A Nian—”
“I already called Aunt Bai. She’s on the way. Come on.” Without waiting, Zhang Shuai pulled her along, driving recklessly fast, matching Ji Yun’s own usual speed.
When Ji Yun finally saw Yue Feng, he was frowning down at a stack of documents.
He was handsome—one of the company’s most eligible bachelors, the target of many women’s secret admiration. Only Ji Yun treated him like the plague.
At the sound of footsteps, Yue Feng looked up at her once, then back down without greeting, continuing to read.
Ji Yun stared, dumbfounded. Even if you resent me for liking women, can’t you at least politely offer me a seat? How deep a grudge is this?
With a small huff, she sat across from him anyway. Immediately, Yue Feng slapped the documents onto the table, pointing at them with a clenched jaw.
“Look. Look what you signed!”
Ji Yun blinked. What could be wrong? When negotiations with Sun Jichang failed, she’d turned to Quan Zhi. The whole thing had been discussed in the company. Why bring it up again now?
She glanced at Zhang Shuai, who quickly ducked his head.
Frowning, Ji Yun picked up the contract and read it through. The deeper she went, the paler her face grew, until she was ghostly white.
“Zhang Shuai—what’s with this extra thirty percent?”
“Jiejie, the contract you gave me—I just handed it directly to President Quan to sign. And—”
“You didn’t even read it?” Ji Yun stared. Zhang Shuai’s head sank lower.
Her mind buzzed. She had never made such a mistake before. She herself had drafted the contract—she knew that thirty percent clause wasn’t hers.
After her anger passed, Ji Yun forced herself calm and met Yue Feng’s gaze. “It was my oversight.”
“Oversight? Ah Yun, do you have any idea how much this so-called oversight will cost the company?” It was the first time Yue Feng had looked her in the eyes since she entered.
Ji Yun arched a brow, catching his anxious expression. A small smile curved her lips. “I’ll pay for it.”
“Jiejie—”
“Ah Yun!” Yue Feng and Zhang Shuai both cried out. Yue Feng slammed the table so hard it rattled. “Pay for it? With what? You’ll bankrupt yourself!”
Ji Yun only smiled. “I’ve been in this company for years. Paying won’t ruin me.”
She said it lightly, but Yue Feng’s frown deepened. He stared at her, then looked away, silent.
“These past days, the company’s been busy with something else, hasn’t it? Not this.” Ji Yun’s tone softened.
Yue Feng finally glanced up, then nodded.
“Thank you for covering for me. I’ll gather the money quickly and give it to you,” Ji Yun said, rising. “A Nian is waiting. I have to go.”
Yue Feng clenched his jaw, furious at her indifference. He stood too. “Don’t rush. I’ll find a way.”
Ji Yun heard him as she left. She turned back, smiled faintly, and said nothing.
Watching her retreating back, Yue Feng’s fists tightened. It was the second time he’d seen her walk away like this. The first was when she told him she liked women. He hadn’t believed it then. But after observing her with Xue Funian, he couldn’t help but believe.
That resolute back, not once turning—he could only watch in silence.
“Jiejie, I didn’t know. I thought you had already reviewed the contract,” Zhang Shuai stammered, trying to explain.
Ji Yun suddenly stopped. Zhang Shuai nearly braked too late.
She turned to him, eyes reddened. He had never seen her like this and panicked instantly.
But Ji Yun’s voice was cold and fierce: “I drafted the contract, yes. But that clause was not mine. Investigate it. Link it with A Nian’s kidnapping. I want to know who’s stabbing me in the back. I won’t take the blame for this.”
Zhang Shuai was shaken. So those red eyes weren’t from hurt—they burned with rage.
The ride back was with Ji Yun at the wheel, her speed even more terrifying than his. Zhang Shuai clung to his seatbelt, white-knuckled.
When they finally reached the hospital, he nearly vomited stepping out.
Ji Yun shot him a glare. “Not a word of this to A Nian. If you breathe a syllable, I’ll kill you.”
Zhang Shuai gave her a pitiful look but stayed silent.
Ji Yun pushed open the ward door—and froze.
Who the hell had brought this man here?
Cheng Jirui looked up, smiling faintly. “Long time no see.”
Xue Funian, hearing the voice, sat up quickly. “Jiejie?”
