Goddess, Are You Blind? (GL) - Chapter 29
Cheng Jirui didn’t like Ji Yun, and Ji Yun didn’t like him either. The two of them glared at each other for a while until Xue Funian finally laughed.
“Where did sister go? I asked Aunt Qing, but she didn’t know either.”
Ji Yun turned her head and glanced at Zhang Shuai, who was standing quietly at the side, then smiled and went over to hold Xue Funian’s hand. “Nothing, Zhang Shuai couldn’t handle something, so I helped him.”
Hearing this, Xue Funian nodded, but Zhang Shuai nearly cried—who was the one unable to handle things now? It was clearly him and Ji Yun!
“President Cheng, what brings you here?” Ji Yun asked with a smile, looking at Cheng Jirui.
“I heard Funian had surgery, so I came to see her.”
“Oh.” Ji Yun’s reply was rather indifferent. Cheng Jirui glanced at Ji Yun, then at Xue Funian.
“Funian, then I’ll head off. Take care and rest well.” He really didn’t want to see Ji Yun here, so after leaving those words, he turned and walked away.
Ji Yun felt somewhat bored. When she saw Xue Funian trying to sit up, she hurried forward to support her.
“In a few days Dogzi needs to go for a follow-up. Sister, take me with you, okay?” Xue Funian deliberately didn’t mention what Cheng Jirui had said just now, instead steering the topic toward Dogzi.
Ji Yun raised her head to look at Xue Funian, thought for a moment, then said: “Not sure if you’ll be discharged by then.”
“I already asked the doctor. I can go out as long as I don’t bump my eyes. We can just take Dogzi to the vet. At worst, when we come back, I’ll still stay in the hospital.”
She spoke pitifully, and Ji Yun had no way to refuse. In the end, she gave in to Xue Funian. When she looked back again, Zhang Shuai was already gone, though Ji Yun didn’t know when he had slipped away.
She couldn’t quite put it down in her heart, absentmindedly thinking about the contract. Even when Xue Funian called her, she didn’t respond.
So the two of them sat there blankly together, doing nothing, saying nothing, until Ji Yun finally came back to her senses and saw that Bai Qing had already brought dinner.
“Ah Nian.” After dinner, Ji Yun, as usual, took Xue Funian downstairs in the hospital for a walk. Holding her hand, she almost forgot all the things Yue Feng had told her earlier.
“Sister, something’s wrong at the company, isn’t it? Ever since you came back today, you’ve been absent-minded.”
Xue Funian walked slowly beside her, tilting her head and asking softly. She didn’t really expect Ji Yun to answer truthfully.
But after a few more steps, Ji Yun actually spoke: “Someone at the company is trying to harm me, so things have been a bit tricky lately.”
The moment she heard this, Xue Funian grew anxious. She wasn’t unaware—if Ji Yun had always been doing well in the company, and considering her personality, aside from clashing with one or two people, most others liked her.
So it couldn’t be directly against Ji Yun. The target was herself.
After all, she was now so close to Ji Yun.
Thinking of this, Xue Funian didn’t speak again. She only tightened her grip on Ji Yun’s hand.
Feeling the extra strength, Ji Yun smiled, then asked with a teasing tone: “If one day I really go bankrupt, what will I use to support my little princess?”
Xue Funian was stunned by the question, but immediately caught the meaning and hurried to answer:
“It’s okay. I’ll take care of sister.”
Ji Yun stopped walking, so Xue Funian also stopped. Ji Yun turned to stare blankly at her, then replayed her words in her mind, before suddenly bursting into laughter.
“You don’t believe me?” Xue Funian lifted her chin slightly, her long hair brushing across her cheek in the evening breeze, making Ji Yun’s heart itch.
Ji Yun hugged her tightly, holding her in her arms, then shook her head with a smile. “No, I believe you. If I really become a pauper, then I can only rely on Ah Nian.”
Hearing the slight nasal sound in Ji Yun’s voice, Xue Funian didn’t know how else to comfort her. She could only pat Ji Yun’s back gently—just like Ji Yun used to do at night to coax her to sleep. Now she used the same way to comfort her back.
Ji Yun lifted her head to look at the sky where the sunset glow was burning red. “Let’s go back. It might rain tomorrow.”
And indeed, it rained the next day. Listening to the pattering outside, Xue Funian felt restless.
Ji Yun parked the car in the garage and had Bai Qing stay with Dogzi in the car, then went upstairs to fetch Xue Funian.
“Where’s Dogzi?” The moment Xue Funian grabbed Ji Yun’s hand, she asked.
“Ha, I’m not even as good as a dog.” Ji Yun’s tone carried a hint of grievance.
Hearing that, Xue Funian panicked. “No, it’s not like that! I just haven’t seen Dogzi for so long, I really missed him.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t get jealous of a dog. He’s in the car downstairs.” Ji Yun smiled at her.
When Xue Funian heard Dogzi was there, she quickly smiled as well. That was when Ji Yun noticed that when she smiled, a shallow dimple appeared on her cheek, small but so very pretty.
Ji Yun draped an arm over Xue Funian’s shoulder, tilting the umbrella toward her to shield her more from the rain.
When they got into the car, Xue Funian immediately heard Dogzi’s soft bark. She leaned back, stretching her hand toward him.
Bai Zhi guided her hand to Dogzi’s head, letting her pat him.
Dogzi rubbed happily against her palm. He hadn’t seen her for days, and now he let out low whines, almost spoiled and clinging.
Ji Yun got into the car, shot Dogzi a disdainful look, then drove them to the vet.
As the saying went, “It takes a hundred days for muscles and bones to heal.” For Xue Funian’s surgery too, it would be three months before her stitches came out. Somehow, she and Dogzi had timed their recovery together perfectly.
Ji Yun couldn’t help but laugh at the thought.
On the way, Ji Yun’s phone kept ringing nonstop, until even Bai Zhi couldn’t stand it anymore.
“Sis Yun, your phone’s been ringing the whole trip. Can’t you just pick it up?”
Ji Yun glared at him through the rear-view mirror. “Don’t answer while driving.”
But in truth, she just didn’t want the sharp-eared Xue Funian to catch on to anything.
In the end, Ji Yun had to speed up. The flying pace turned Bai Zhi pale with fright.
But Xue Funian wasn’t fazed. She knew Ji Yun must have something urgent, and if she was hiding it, she must have her reasons.
When Ji Yun glanced sideways, she saw Xue Funian lower her head, quiet and uncomplaining. That reserved nature left Ji Yun conflicted.
She wanted Xue Funian to ask. Asking meant she cared. Whether she answered or not was another matter.
The mix of feelings was hard to put into words. Finally, she said nothing more.
The atmosphere grew awkward, especially in the backseat, where Bai Zhi and Dogzi sat silently.
One boy and one dog, both unusually quiet, making the silence almost eerie.
When they reached the hospital, Xue Funian stayed by Dogzi as always, while Ji Yun stepped out to return Yue Feng’s call.
“Ah Yun, this isn’t going to blow over easily,” Yue Feng said, lowering his voice.
“I know. I said I’ll pay the damages.”
“But it’s not all your fault!” Yue Feng was anxious.
Ji Yun glanced back at the glass window, inside which Xue Funian sat, hugging Dogzi tightly, listening intently as the dog occasionally whined from pain. Each time, she held him even closer.
“It was my mistake. I drafted the contract but didn’t check carefully.” Ji Yun smiled faintly as she spoke, the tone surprisingly light, as if eased by the sight before her.
Yue Feng couldn’t see her expression, but he could hear that casual ease in her voice. She might lose everything, yet she could still say it so lightly—that she alone would pay.
“Ah Yun, you and Chairwoman Xue are close… Why don’t you ask her for help?”
Ji Yun froze, her eyes flashing with panic as she looked at Xue Funian. She had never considered relying on her. Yet Yue Feng’s suggestion filled her with fear—not that she herself would ask, but that others around her might.
Xue Funian was already sensitive; she’d figure things out in a heartbeat.
“Ah Yun?” When she didn’t answer, Yue Feng grew worried. “If you can’t bring yourself to ask, then just forget it.”
“Yue Feng.” Ji Yun cut him off. He stopped and listened. “Don’t tell Ah Nian about this. I’ll handle it myself.”
After a long pause, Yue Feng gave a bitter laugh. “Alright.”
Ji Yun smiled faintly as she hung up, then lifted her eyes toward the window where Xue Funian sat.
Inside, Dogzi’s leg had been treated, and Xue Funian’s tense heart was finally easing.
Her bond with the dog was truly strong, Ji Yun thought. If she really did lose everything one day, she’d have to find work again just to raise these two—this little girl and her dog.
Meanwhile, Yue Feng, after ending the call, slumped back on the sofa. Finally, he grabbed a stack of documents and flung them at the man sitting across from him.
“Who the hell told you to mess with Ah Yun?!”
The man didn’t move, only looked up at him.
The anger came and went fast. Yue Feng drained a large glass of water, finally pushing down the fire in his chest.
“President Yue, everything was done according to your orders.”
Yue Feng glared at him, then slammed the cup down on the table with a sharp crack.
“Get out.”
