Goddess, Are You Blind? (GL) - Chapter 35
When Ji Yun went to find Cheng Jirui, it was raining outside—drizzling, pattering, enough to irritate anyone.
After hearing from Yue Feng that compensation wouldn’t be necessary, Ji Yun had first turned back to glance at Xue Funian, but in the end, she still called for Cheng Jirui.
Though neither of them liked the other, whenever they met, nothing was left unsaid. The official jargon flowed smoothly, so much so that Ji Yun found herself grumbling at her own mindless politeness.
Cheng Jirui first gave Ji Yun a run-through of recent events. After all, there were things Funian had instructed him not to mention, so he picked and chose his words carefully and didn’t say much.
In the end, Ji Yun cut to the chase and said directly why she had come today.
“Did A-Nian have any part in this matter?”
Cheng Jirui set down his coffee cup and lifted his head to look at Ji Yun.
One had to admit—Ji Yun was beautiful, but a different kind of beauty than Xue Funian’s.
Funian was like clear water, light and refreshing. Ji Yun, however, was like strong wine, rich and intoxicating.
When he shook his head, Ji Yun’s brows furrowed even more.
“Now Yue Feng is impossible to rely on. He can’t wait for me to go bankrupt so that later he can come knocking on my door.”
Cheng Jirui was surprised. “You already know this? Then don’t you suspect Yue Feng of making a move against you?”
Ji Yun suddenly lifted her head, casting Cheng Jirui a meaningful glance. That single look made his heart jolt. Before he could process it, Ji Yun turned her head away and smiled faintly. “He may wish me ill, but not to that extent.”
“And you, President Cheng, have no reason to help me—unless A-Nian asked you.” At this, Ji Yun laughed. “If A-Nian asked you to investigate something, that might be possible. But asking you to bail me out? That, I can’t imagine.”
So all of this, in the end, was Funian quietly giving her a push from behind.
When Cheng Jirui heard this, his brows knitted tightly. “So you came here today just to say nonsense?”
Ji Yun smiled. “Oh, not exactly. I only thought you’ve been working hard lately, so I invited you for coffee.”
That only made Cheng Jirui all the more annoyed. Both of them had feelings for Xue Funian. One look at the other and they instantly knew what kind of person stood before them. Their rivalry wasn’t new—it had been sharpened for some time now. And there was no easy way to untangle it.
With just a glance, each knew what the other was thinking.
Probably something along the lines of: You want Xue Funian? Dream on.
Ji Yun knew her chances of losing—perhaps because she was a woman. But her chances of winning—were also because she was a woman.
Could Cheng Jirui lie beside A-Nian for so long, night after night?
If he dared, Ji Yun would tear him limb from limb.
When Ji Yun went home, she was in good spirits. Hearing her humming as she came in, Funian thought of the words Ji Yun had drunkenly spoken the night before. She had been about to rise and ask “You’re back?” but at that thought, her courage vanished.
She sat on the sofa, hands restless, waiting for Ji Yun to speak first.
But Ji Yun walked straight into the bathroom. Soon, the sound of running water came from inside.
As expected… what she said last night had been because of the alcohol.
Unexpectedly, Funian felt a little pang of loss.
When Ji Yun came out again, her hair was still damp. She didn’t bother to dry it, just sat down beside Funian, smiling at the dog curled at her feet. Her grin was so broad that even the dog gave her a baffled look and shuffled away in mild disdain.
“Jiejie seems very happy today?”
Of course she was happy. Seeing Cheng Jirui’s expression—like he’d just swallowed filth—how could she not be?
“A-Nian, in just a few days it’ll be time to take the stitches out. You’ll be able to see again. Aren’t you excited?” Ji Yun tilted her head, looking at Funian’s beautiful face. The more she looked, the wider her smile stretched.
But Funian wanted to ask—couldn’t she choose not to be happy?
Once, she had hated the unfairness of heaven, resented it fiercely. Though she never showed it before others, in her heart she longed to see the world, longed until it drove her nearly mad.
But now? If she truly regained her sight—how could she accept this warmth Ji Yun had given her? Under what identity could she remain in this house that had already become so familiar?
She hadn’t even sorted out her thoughts, and yet it was already time to have the stitches removed.
Though Funian didn’t answer, Ji Yun’s joy was irrepressible. It overflowed from the corners of her eyes, from every inch of her face. If Funian could see again, how could she make her stay?
At this moment, Ji Yun thought only one thing: that soon, Funian would behold all the beauty of this world.
The day they went to remove the stitches, it was raining again. Ji Yun didn’t like such weather, but nothing could dampen her excitement.
Carefully, she helped Funian out of the car and into the examination room. Watching the layers of white gauze come off one by one, Ji Yun’s heart rose to her throat.
When the last bandage fell away and she saw Funian’s long lashes trembling faintly, Ji Yun instinctively grasped her hand.
Funian squeezed back, then slowly opened her eyes.
What entered her vision was a blur.
She quickly closed them again and lowered her head. Ji Yun’s heart jolted; she gripped Funian’s hand even tighter.
Funian tried once more, opening her eyes again.
Still a blur.
She shook her head helplessly.
As she was wheeled in for another examination, she still held Ji Yun’s hand tightly. “Jiejie, maybe I’ll never see again.”
But Ji Yun didn’t say the usual words of comfort—didn’t say don’t talk nonsense. Instead, she smiled. “That’s fine. I’ll take care of you for life.”
Funian smiled too, then let go of Ji Yun’s hand, allowing the nurse to push her away.
When the results came out, Ji Yun was still nervous.
Luckily, the doctor said the surgery had been successful. But because Funian’s injury had not only damaged her eyes but also the nerves in the back of her head, recovery would take time and medication. Gradually, her vision would clear.
Hearing this, the heavy weight on Ji Yun’s chest finally lifted. She told Funian with a smile in her voice.
The heart Funian had been holding tight also relaxed.
She had feared that if she truly regained her sight, she wouldn’t know how to face Ji Yun again.
But for now, she still couldn’t see. She still needed Ji Yun.
That need was like an addiction—one she couldn’t quit.
“A-Nian, let’s go traveling,” Ji Yun suddenly said.
Funian, still lost in her conflicting emotions, was startled.
“Jiejie… but if I can’t see, how can I travel?”
“No matter. I’ll be your eyes. I’ll show you all the scenery.” Ji Yun took her hand as she spoke.
She worried Funian might despair over not seeing yet, so she suggested going out. Funian had never been one to sit still.
At home too long, she’d grow restless and insist on walking the dog. And now, after being blind for so long, she must have felt stifled.
As Funian hesitated, Ji Yun spoke again: “Was there anywhere you especially wanted to visit before? We’ll go everywhere you want.”
“Jiejie, have you already settled your work?”
Ji Yun smiled. As for work, she did have some plans—but she hadn’t told Funian yet. And even now, she couldn’t say everything was tied up neatly.
When Funian didn’t hear an answer, she laughed softly. “Jiejie, finish your work first, then take me out. Actually, now I can make out a little of your outline… though everything is still mostly dark.”
For a while Ji Yun stayed silent, then sighed. “A-Nian, where do you want to go?”
Since she hadn’t given up, Funian thought carefully. After living with her so long, she knew Ji Yun’s temperament: when Ji Yun set her mind to something, she would do it. Listening to opinions was one thing, but once she decided, she carried it out.
“I didn’t get to travel much as a child. I haven’t even seen many of the sights in my own country. I’ve never tried all the snacks in different places. I want to try them, see them all.”
When she finished, her lips curved into a gentle smile. That smile was so warm that even the rainy weather outside couldn’t keep Ji Yun’s heart from trembling.
She patted Funian’s hand. “Alright. We’ll tour all of China before we come back. I’ll go prepare our luggage now.”
Her speed was so quick that Funian hadn’t even processed it before she found herself already on a plane.
Ji Yun had swept her up without giving her time to think. When Ji Yun leaned her head against her shoulder, saying with a smile, “Sleep for a while. I’ll wake you when we arrive,” only then did Funian truly realize—she was on a plane, about to travel with Ji Yun, to “see” the scenery together.
At that thought, Funian smiled, snuggling closer to find a comfortable spot.
She loved this feeling. It was like all those nights when she had no one to rely on—yet here was someone, by her side, accompanying her through the endless darkness.
And in her life, perhaps she would never truly see again. But it was enough—this warmth was enough.
“Jiejie, where are we going?”
Ji Yun thought for a moment, then shook her head. “I don’t know. I just booked the soonest flight I could. Who knows where it’ll take us?”
“…”
“As long as I’m with A-Nian, anywhere is fine.”
Funian stayed silent, not answering.
Then Ji Yun asked, “A-Nian, you gave Yue Feng fourteen percent of your shares. Do you have other plans?”
Her eyes drooped shut, but just before they closed, she caught sight of Funian’s lashes trembling ever so slightly.
