Goddess, Are You Blind? (GL) - Chapter 7
Xue Funian’s past couple of days had gone rather well. Every evening after dinner, she would take Gouzi downstairs to circle the neighborhood twice. On the one hand, it was good for digestion; on the other, it helped her practice getting along with Gouzi in daily life.
Fortunately, Gouzi was very considerate. The dog would walk slowly in front of her, leading her step by step, steady and sure.
After a few days of this, Xue Funian and Gouzi had grown more and more in sync. By the time Ji Yun returned, what she saw was Xue Funian smiling happily, lips curved with genuine joy, while Gouzi padded ahead, wagging its head and tail, guiding her along at a steady pace.
Ji Yun laughed and stepped forward, pulling Xue Funian into her arms.
Startled, Xue Funian froze. Gouzi immediately stopped walking—but made no fuss, no barking, only quiet calm. Of course, she didn’t know that Gouzi was already rubbing affectionately against Ji Yun’s legs, sticky as could be, making anyone want to scoop it up.
But Ji Yun wasn’t “anyone.” She only held onto Xue Funian, ignoring Gouzi entirely.
If Gouzi didn’t bark, that alone told who the newcomer was.
“Sister?”
“Well now, are you like Gouzi—using your nose to sniff me out?”
At her teasing, both women burst into laughter. Only Gouzi remained on the ground, lifting its head to look longingly at the pair.
During the four or five days Ji Yun was away on business, she had called Xue Funian every day. Unlike others, Xue Funian couldn’t do many ordinary things—shopping on her own, running errands, strolling around. She had to rely on her remaining senses.
The best way to keep her company was through conversation, so Ji Yun always chatted with her—sometimes about nothing, sometimes trivial things, sometimes serious, sometimes silly.
Now, seeing Xue Funian in person downstairs, Ji Yun couldn’t help but smile broadly. She naturally took the leash from Xue Funian’s hand and wrapped an arm around her, guiding her upstairs.
“Did sister finish everything for work?”
“Mm, more or less.” Ji Yun spoke as she glanced at a man who had stepped into the elevator. Casually, she tugged Xue Funian closer, shielding her with her body, and politely nodded at the stranger.
The man gave Xue Funian a quick look—pity flashing across his face at such a young woman losing her sight. Then he noticed Ji Yun. Seeing her nod at him, he quickly returned the gesture, embarrassed, and pressed the button for his floor, bowing his head.
Noticing Ji Yun’s protective move, Gouzi cleverly shifted position too, standing on the other side to block for both Ji Yun and Xue Funian.
Ji Yun glanced down at Gouzi and smiled.
When they reached home, Auntie Bai Qing hurried to help. Ji Yun handed her the leash. “Auntie Qing, please take Gouzi in and wash his paws.”
“Of course,” Bai Qing said, leading the dog inside.
Meanwhile, Ji Yun bent over to stop Xue Funian from stooping to remove her own shoes. “A’nian, don’t move. I’ll do it.”
Without waiting for a reply, she crouched and carefully unbuckled the straps, sliding off the flat summer sandals to reveal Xue Funian’s pale, delicate feet. They were small, smooth, and beautiful.
She removed both shoes and swapped them for indoor slippers before quickly kicking off her own heels and taking Xue Funian’s hand to lead her in.
By then, Bai Qing had finished washing Gouzi’s paws. The moment it was freed, Gouzi bounded over, rubbing insistently against Ji Yun. Laughing, Ji Yun scooped it up, lifted its chin, and hummed, “A few days apart and you missed your dad, hm?”
At that, Bai Qing let out a chuckle. “Xiao Yun, have you had dinner yet? Should I heat something up?”
“Anything left over is fine, Auntie Qing. Just trouble you to warm it up.”
“You still talk like that to me,” Bai Qing scolded gently, giving Ji Yun a look. Ji Yun only smiled, not answering, her gaze falling on the chessboard on the table.
“How did your game go?”
Hearing Ji Yun’s voice, Xue Funian raised her head from stroking Gouzi’s fur and smiled. “At first I managed, but after a while I couldn’t remember the moves.”
Ji Yun chuckled. “That’s alright. From now on, I’ll play with you.”
“Does that mean sister won’t be traveling anymore?” Xue Funian asked with a smile. She clearly didn’t take Ji Yun’s promise too seriously—after all, someone in Ji Yun’s position always had countless things to handle. How could she have so much time just to accompany her?
Ji Yun nodded, sipping water. “Yes. I just wrapped up a major client. I won’t be traveling for a while.”
Xue Funian thought for a moment, then nodded. “If sister isn’t too busy, could you take me to Huijiang one day?”
Ji Yun looked at her in surprise.
Since bringing her back, Ji Yun had suggested visiting the company before—but at the time, Xue Funian had spilled hot soup in her panic, burning her thigh red. Now, she was the one bringing it up.
Sensing Ji Yun’s thoughts, Xue Funian groped around until she found her hand. “You’re right. Since I’ve held onto those Huijiang shares, I need the courage to protect the company too. If I just hide here doing nothing, Huijiang will fall sooner or later.”
“What do you plan to do there?” Ji Yun asked, intrigued. She turned slightly, studying Xue Funian’s face, catching even the faintest shifts in her expression.
“Even if I don’t do anything, shouldn’t I at least go and see?”
Ji Yun nodded. “When do you want to go?”
“Monday, during the weekly meeting.”
Ji Yun smiled, giving her hand a playful squeeze. “You’re doing your homework—knowing there’s a weekly meeting every Monday. But do you know what they actually discuss?”
Xue Funian immediately straightened, serious as a schoolgirl, ready for her lesson.
“First, they report the past week’s performance. Then, they review last week’s stock trends. After that, they assign areas to improve and note what should be maintained. Sometimes, they’ll introduce new initiatives and delegate tasks.”
Ji Yun’s explanation was brief, but Xue Funian could follow easily. She wasn’t stupid; after years at her father’s side, she had picked up more than most.
“Xiao Yun, come eat first,” Bai Qing called.
Ji Yun rose, patting Xue Funian’s shoulder. “Think about it more. I’ll explain in detail after dinner.”
Xue Funian nodded, curling into the sofa under the light blanket Bai Qing always prepared for her.
When Ji Yun returned after eating, she found Xue Funian fast asleep, her head resting on Gouzi’s back, while Gouzi’s head leaned against Ji Yun’s lap. One girl and one dog slumbered peacefully, making Ji Yun smile unconsciously.
She raised a hand to hush Bai Qing and let her retreat upstairs, leaving the quiet living room to the three of them—Xue Funian curled on the sofa, Ji Yun poring over documents at the table, and Gouzi snoozing between them.
The soft glow of the orange lamp cast a warm halo over them all.
Sitting cross-legged on the floor, Ji Yun sorted through the documents, already planning for Monday. She needed to anticipate the traps the veteran “old foxes” would set for Xue Funian, so the girl could face them calmly.
Ji Yun had always been thorough—while others thought one step ahead, she thought ten, a hundred. That was why Father Xue had trusted her so much. And now, she would do the same for Xue Funian.
But before long, her eyelids drooped, and she drifted off at the table.
When Bai Qing came down later, she found the two women and one dog all sound asleep. Shaking her head with a helpless smile, she fetched a large bedsheet to cover them, shielding them from the air conditioner’s chill.
The next morning, Ji Yun woke with a sore neck and aching back. Rubbing her neck and waist with a grimace, she lowered her head—only to meet Gouzi’s wide, soulful eyes under the same blanket. She nearly smacked it in mock anger, but its gaze was too innocent to bear.
Turning her head, she saw Xue Funian’s face bathed in sunlight, serene in sleep. Ji Yun smiled softly, then quietly carried Gouzi into the kitchen.
The dog’s meals were always punctual, but even when hungry, it never whined or barked—just waited patiently for its “parents” to feed it.
By the time Xue Funian woke, Gouzi was full and nestled against her on the sofa again.
Ji Yun set a bowl of congee before her. “Eat breakfast, then we’ll head to the mall. Buy a couple of outfits. Tomorrow we’re going to the company—you’ve got to look the part of a strong career woman.”
Though nervous, Xue Funian laughed at that and nodded. After finishing breakfast face-to-face with Ji Yun, she let her help change her into fresh clothes, then followed her out.
The sun outside was warm and comforting, soaking into her skin.
Later, when she emerged from the fitting room in a sharp business outfit, Ji Yun narrowed her eyes, looking her up and down with satisfaction. She handed her card to the shop assistant, paid, and led Xue Funian out of the mall.
“A different A’nian altogether… so beautiful.”
Xue Funian lifted her face toward her, smiling softly, a faint blush coloring her cheeks.
