Goddess, Are You Blind? (GL) - Chapter 8
On Monday morning, Xue Funian woke up early. She opened her wide eyes and “looked” around, though she already knew—no matter how hard she looked, all she could ever see was darkness.
Just as she was about to sigh, she felt someone move beside her. Only then did she remember: for the past two days, she had been sharing a bed with Ji Yun.
“Don’t sigh. Come on, get up, I’ll help you wash up.” Ji Yun squinted sleepily at Funian, rubbed her eyes, and sat up.
Funian followed, letting Ji Yun guide her to her feet.
These past few days, Ji Yun had stayed at home, and Bai Qing had gone back to care for her own son, leaving Funian’s care entirely to Ji Yun.
Fortunately, Ji Yun was attentive. She thought of everything for Funian, and the two of them had been getting along harmoniously. Except for the occasional blush, Funian was now able to accept it all calmly.
Ji Yun squeezed toothpaste onto a toothbrush, smiled, and placed it into Funian’s hand.
“Here, brush your teeth.”
Funian obeyed, brushing carefully. Ji Yun did the same, standing shoulder to shoulder with her in front of the mirror. Raising her eyes, she saw the two of them making identical movements, brushing their teeth seriously. For no reason at all, Ji Yun thought the sight was beautiful.
When they finished, Ji Yun poured hot water, wrung a towel, and placed it in Funian’s hand.
Having been cared for like this for a while, Funian had grown used to it. Without being overly polite, she took the towel carefully and washed her face. Ji Yun then brought clothes over, slipped Funian’s sleepwear off, and dressed her.
The sudden breeze made Funian shiver before she stretched out her arms and let Ji Yun help her into her clothes.
Ji Yun smiled—Funian was becoming more and more obedient, letting her actions speak instead of words.
Once dressed, Ji Yun sat her before the vanity, swept aside the items, and quickly applied a light makeup: simple, understated, yet dignified.
Finally, she dabbed a faint pink on Funian’s lips, soft and delicate, making one feel the urge to bite them.
Ji Yun studied her from head to toe, then smiled. “I don’t often see Anian like this.”
“Does it look strange?” Funian wasn’t new to makeup. Back in university, which girl didn’t want to dress up now and then? Though she was already beautiful, with makeup she looked different—another kind of beauty.
“Not strange. Very pretty.” Ji Yun laughed, pulled up another chair, and sat in front of her. “Anian, you must’ve had lots of admirers in middle school, high school, even college.”
Her eyebrows arched playfully as she teased.
Funian blushed slightly but also smiled. “There were, yes.”
“Oh?”
“But I never actually dated anyone.”
She lowered her head a little as she spoke. Ji Yun let out a laugh. “Look at you, so pure. Was no one good enough for you?”
“It’s not that. I just never met anyone whose personality suited me.”
Ji Yun chuckled, quickly applying a little makeup to herself as she spoke. “If I were a man, I’d like someone like you too.”
Funian’s face flushed deeper. Ji Yun laughed again, and when she finished getting ready, she helped Funian up and out the door.
Along the way, Funian was very nervous, clutching her sleeve so tightly she nearly wrinkled it. Ji Yun cast her a sidelong glance. This wasn’t the same nervousness as the last time she went to the company. Back then, Funian had simply been making an appearance for show. This time, she was truly going to observe the work.
“Anian, don’t be too nervous. All you have to do is sit there and listen. There won’t be anything major for you to do.”
But instead of relaxing, Funian frowned. “Are you saying I’m useless?”
Ji Yun burst into laughter. “What are you thinking? You’ll see—board members usually just sit and listen. Your role is to observe and supervise.”
Only then did Funian smooth her brow. “But isn’t that the same as taking up the position without doing anything?”
“It is.” Ji Yun answered quickly. “Luckily your father was here before. Under his management, ‘Jiangyan’ has been steadily growing for years. That’s why for now, it’s right for you to just watch, listen, and learn. Later you’ll take on more.”
Hearing this, Funian nodded in agreement.
In truth, she knew Ji Yun had more experience in these matters. As a blind woman now, even if she wanted to take everything into her hands, there was little she could actually do. She had no choice but to trust Ji Yun.
At first, Funian had guarded against everyone, believing the large piece of meat she held in her hands would attract countless people eager for a share. She had even doubted Ji Yun. But after this time together, even if Ji Yun harbored motives unknown, the care she gave was real and undeniable.
Seeing Funian nod, release her death-grip on her sleeve, and say no more, Ji Yun smiled.
By 8:30 a.m., the sun was already high. Driving with narrowed eyes against the glare, Ji Yun finally slipped on sunglasses.
The rest of the way was silent, but smooth. At the company, Ji Yun parked and went around to Funian’s side, leaning in to unfasten her seatbelt. Looking up, her face almost brushed against Funian’s lowered head. They were so close that even though Funian couldn’t see, she could hear Ji Yun’s breath.
“Don’t be afraid, Anian. I’m here.” With that, Ji Yun brushed away the awkwardness, helped her out of the car, and closed the door.
For Funian’s sake, Ji Yun wore lower heels that day. Normally taller by half a head, now Funian’s height matched just right when she took Ji Yun’s arm. Ji Yun slowed her pace so Funian could walk comfortably at her side.
Funian tilted her head slightly toward her. “I’m still a little scared.”
“It’s alright. I’m here.” Ji Yun patted her hand gently before leading her inside.
At the entrance, the receptionist straightened and bowed. Ji Yun acknowledged her with a nod and continued guiding Funian.
The young receptionist stared, struck by a sense of familiarity. Where had she seen this girl before? Only after Ji Yun had led Funian further inside did realization strike her—wasn’t that the very heiress of the company’s largest shares, the one who had gone blind? Just the other week, she had declared firmly that she would never give up her holdings.
Incredible. She’d come in person, and under Ji Yun’s care no less. It looked like from now on, those sly old foxes had no chance. Better start currying favor with General Manager Ji.
While the receptionist was still turning this over, Ji Yun had already led Funian into the meeting room.
The meeting had begun at nine, but walking slower to accommodate Funian had delayed them. Ji Yun wasn’t concerned—she was never late otherwise, and this was a special case.
But the moment she pushed open the conference room doors, the room fell silent. Normally, tardiness wasn’t unusual—people would simply slip quietly to their seats, no one making a fuss. After all, morning traffic was a common excuse.
But today was different—today, Xue Funian had come.
The last time she appeared, she had left the impression of someone worth winning over at all costs. Yet since then, no one had been able to find a trace of her.
Now she appeared again, drawing every eye onto herself.
At first, Funian panicked. But soon, she steadied herself. She lifted her lips into a soft smile—gentle, yet distant, keeping everyone at arm’s length.
Ji Yun glanced at her and smiled too.
She loved seeing Funian like this. Already beautiful, now with makeup, she was even more so. And with that faint, calm smile, she looked like an ice-cold beauty, impossible to approach.
Ji Yun guided her to the chair that had always remained empty but coveted by many, pulled it out, and placed a hand on her shoulder to signal her to sit.
Having spent so much time with Ji Yun, Funian understood her every gesture. She sat down naturally at her cue.
Ji Yun patted her shoulder lightly, reassuring her not to be afraid, then walked to her own seat.
Through it all, no one in the room spoke. Every gaze remained fixed on Funian, even as Ji Yun sat down.
Sensing the awkward silence, Funian kept her serene smile. She laid her hands on the table naturally, and the curve of her lips deepened slightly.
“Continue.”
Her calm words broke the silence. But the steadiness and authority in her voice left everyone stunned—even the wiliest old foxes sucked in a sharp breath.
Was it just them, or had the air conditioning suddenly been set too low?
