Goddess Strategy GL - Chapter 35
“Move out, then!” Zhao Xin’s indifferent tone irritated Ye Ruoqing. It had been a long time since she had been this angry. After hanging up the phone, she immediately borrowed Xiao Yuan’s car, ready to go back and pack her things. Xiao Yuan saw her face full of anger, guessed that she and Zhao Xin had a conflict over the phone, and tried to placate her: “She wasn’t telling you to get out, just asking you to avoid the spotlight.”
“Of course I know I need to avoid the spotlight, and I’m not an unreasonable person, but what was with that tone, like I’m a stranger? We’ve known each other for so long, I thought we were at least friends.”
Xiao Yuan tried to persuade her a few more times, but Ye Ruoqing wouldn’t listen. She furiously grabbed the car keys and her bag and drove back to pack her luggage.
Speeding all the way home, she was surprised to find Zhao Xin at home. The sun had been scorching these past few days, and she had hired a gardener to put small shades over the flowers in the garden to prevent them from getting sunburned.
“You’re back so early?” Zhao Xin stood by the balcony of Ye Ruoqing’s bedroom, holding pruning shears, trimming the pothos on the balcony.
“Didn’t you tell me to move out? I came back to pack my things.”
“Alright, then I’ll ask Xiao Yuan to arrange a hotel for you later.”
Zhao Xin didn’t turn her head. She kept her back to Ye Ruoqing, concentrating on trimming the yellow leaves of the pothos. She was wearing a long cotton and linen dress, the slightly open neckline tilted. With just a slight bow of her head, her long hair draped over her shoulder, revealing one side of her crescent-like shoulder.
Having lived with Zhao Xin for half a month, no matter what she wore, her stunning beauty was undeniable. Even now, with her back to Ye Ruoqing, even as she spoke those harsh words.
Ye Ruoqing stood behind her, and the anger she had accumulated for several days erupted again. She strode over and grabbed Zhao Xin. Zhao Xin, not knowing what was happening, cried out in surprise. The shears fell onto the windowsill. Ye Ruoqing grabbed her shoulders, forcing her to turn around, propping her hands on either side of Zhao Xin, leaning forward, trapping her between herself and the windowsill.
A gentle breeze came, their long hair intertwined, their breaths entangled.
“Do you really hate me?”
Ye Ruoqing stared at Zhao Xin. Her own reflection was inverted in Zhao Xin’s pitch-black pupils. She was certain she was very angry, extremely angry. She couldn’t tolerate Zhao Xin’s hot-and-cold attitude; she didn’t like this feeling of anxiety and fear of loss.
Zhao Xin’s panic lasted only a second before she returned to her usual coldness.
“You’re overthinking it.”
“Why did you take me in?”
“Because you didn’t heed my advice and were homeless.”
“And then? I became one of your pets? You play with me when you’re happy, and throw me aside when you’re not?”
“Ye Ruoqing.” Zhao Xin’s right hand moved to Ye Ruoqing’s wrist, slowly pulling her hand away from the edge of the windowsill. “Don’t easily belittle yourself.”
Ye Ruoqing was still unwilling to give up. She gripped Zhao Xin’s hand back and pressed her against the windowsill again: “Not a pet? Then give me a reason, at least let me be aware. I genuinely treated you as a friend. What about you? What do you consider me?”
Zhao Xin didn’t pull away from this touch, but as soon as the words left Ye Ruoqing’s mouth, she suffered the first rejection of her life—she was fiercely pushed away by Zhao Xin. The goddess tossed her hair, her cold gaze so beautiful it made people nervous.
“Friend? Who wants you as a friend.”
“Zhao Xin, don’t go too far!”
“Ye Ruoqing, a piece of advice: don’t be so self-important. You are an adult; don’t force your ideas onto others. It makes you look very childish.”
Ye Ruoqing’s eyes were practically spitting fire: “Who are you calling childish?”
Zhao Xin didn’t answer the question. She picked up the shears at her feet, still presenting her back to Ye Ruoqing: “Alright, you can go pack your things now.”
