Chapter 12: Lone Alpha, Widowed Omega
One night of turmoil almost cost Cen Qingyi her life.
In Cen Qingyi’s short life, she had never cared for anyone up close for an entire night, especially not an omega she had marked.
Having just passed her heat period, Cen Qingyi was still somewhat sensitive. Fortunately, she carried inhibitor capsules. When the scent of tuberose tormented her glands, causing a slight reaction, she quickly took the medication.
At first, Mu Qing kept a cold face, but in the end, seeing Cen Qingyi’s gentle care, she stopped being stern.
However, before leaving, Mu Qing pointedly told Cen Qingyi, “Lone Alpha, widowed Omega, you’d better not take advantage of her, or you’ll have consequences to face.”
Cen Qingyi, patient with the sick, didn’t mean she had a good temper. “Either you take care of her, or don’t preach to me here.”
Mu Qing snorted and left the bedroom. That night, she slept in the living room, which Cen Qingyi only discovered when she went to the bathroom in the latter half of the night.
With so many guest rooms available, Mu Qing chose to sleep on the long sofa, probably worried about Jiang Zhiyi. Though Cen Qingyi felt annoyed, she envied Jiang Zhiyi for having such a friend.
At dawn, Cen Qingyi yawned by the bedside, too tired to sleep. Tormented by Jiang Zhiyi the previous night, she hadn’t looked at any documents.
Cen Qingyi, struggling to stay awake, yawned repeatedly. She rubbed her eyes and looked at the person on the bed. Jiang Zhiyi’s cheeks were slightly flushed, but her forehead was indeed less feverish.
To recover well, Jiang Zhiyi needed nutritious and delicate food. While the household staff were still asleep, Cen Qingyi washed up simply and went out to buy groceries.
The cold morning air hit her face, and as expected, her sleepiness vanished instantly.
When Mu Qing woke up, she briefly thought Cen Qingyi had fled. Then she spotted a stack of documents on the floor and sent a message: Where did you go?
Cen Qingyi: Buying groceries.
Mu Qing was speechless. The household had people specifically for grocery shopping; why did Cen Qingyi need to do it?

On the bed, Jiang Zhiyi turned over and coughed lightly. Mu Qing tossed her phone aside and cautiously approached.
Jiang Zhiyi squinted and coughed twice more. Mu Qing sighed in relief, “Baby, you scared me to death. You’re finally awake.”
Jiang Zhiyi, with sleepy eyes, remained silent for a while. Mu Qing sat by the bed, “What are you thinking about?”
“Where is she?”
“…” Mu Qing deliberately asked, “You know who?”
Jiang Zhiyi’s usually indifferent face, now flushed with a hint of charm, made Mu Qing lean closer, smiling, “Were you intentional last night?”
Last night, Mu Qing had blushed watching. As an omega and a long-time friend, she had never seen Jiang Zhiyi so close to anyone.
Initially, she thought Jiang Zhiyi was just delirious from the fever, but now Mu Qing suspected this cunning little scorpion was deliberately tormenting Cen Qingyi.
Jiang Zhiyi’s silence equaled agreement. Mu Qing, torn between laughter and tears, sighed after laughing, saying faintly, “I know your personality, and I shouldn’t meddle in your affairs, but I don’t know your plans. Your family has been pressuring you lately, and I understand you’re stressed, but picking a random alpha at a bar, even if she’s good-looking, you can’t indulge her bonding mark. Have you thought about the future?”
Jiang Zhiyi turned to lie flat, not answering but asking, “Why didn’t you answer my question?”
“What question?” Mu Qing, preoccupied with worrying about Jiang Zhiyi, said, “You’re a doctor; you know better than me. A bonding mark carries risks. What if you get pregnant?”
“Where is she?”
“…” Mu Qing held her forehead, “She went to buy groceries.”
“You go back first,” Jiang Zhiyi said, burrowing into the blankets. “I want to sleep more.”
“You little fool…” Mu Qing shook her head at the mound of blankets, “Keep it in check. Play if you want, but don’t make it a big deal.”
**
Mu Qing didn’t leave after stepping out. She waited at the villa’s entrance for Cen Qingyi to return before leaving, instructing her, “You’re an adult; take responsibility for your actions. See it through properly.”
Cen Qingyi raised an eyebrow, exhaling, “If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving.”
She hurriedly left. Mu Qing created a private WeChat group with three people, including herself.
Gu Tinglan, an international model, was the favorite Asian model of top-tier brands.
Chen Niansheng, a journalist, was a renowned figure in Jiang City’s media circle.
Mu Qing, a dentist, owned a private dental clinic next to Jiang City’s Xiehe Hospital, reportedly earning a fortune.
The three golden flowers of Jiang City’s elite, also Jiang Zhiyi’s friends. When Mu Qing created the group, Chen Niansheng and Gu Tinglan each sent a question mark.
Mu Qing: I have a bad feeling about this. You two, tell me what happened at the bar that night.
Gu Tinglan: Didn’t we already tell you?
Chen Niansheng: Yeah, what else do you want to know?
Gu Tinglan: She wants to know how much we lost.
Chen Niansheng: Don’t mention it; it hurts.
Mu Qing: Stop joking. I think she’s serious this time.
Chen Niansheng: How so?
Mu Qing: You all said it was just a deep mark at most, but I think it went to the final step. You didn’t see how she tormented that little alpha last night.
Gu Tinglan: Speaking of that, I recall something from the airport.
That night, Gu Tinglan was flying to Germany, and Jiang Zhiyi drove her. While Jiang Zhiyi parked, Gu Tinglan went inside and unexpectedly saw someone resembling Cen Qingyi, snapping a photo to send to Jiang Zhiyi, “The little alpha next to Sister Zhen looks like the one from the bar.”
Gu Tinglan, too lazy to type, sent a voice message, “Then she told me to follow and check, and later she came over herself.”
Gu Tinglan also mentioned the conversation between Jiang Zhiyi and Cen Qingyi during the event, “The little alpha and she had some kind of agreement. I thought it was just for fun, but now it feels odd.”
Mu Qing: If the Jiang family finds out, that little alpha will be torn apart.
Chen Niansheng sent a laughing emoji, writing: Then I’ll sell this news; it’s definitely front-page material.
The three discussed heatedly in the group. Mu Qing suggested they find a chance to have dinner with Jiang Zhiyi to probe her intentions.

When Cen Qingyi returned, the household staff were already busy. With the young lady ill, they automatically prepared light meals.
But Jiang Zhiyi still hadn’t stirred, and they didn’t dare disturb her. Cen Qingyi rubbed her hands and tiptoed to open the door.
The room carried a faint tuberose scent. The shift from cold to warm made Cen Qingyi’s cheeks flush as she entered the bedroom. She sighed and walked to the bed.
A small mound rose on the bed where Jiang Zhiyi had burrowed into the blankets. Cen Qingyi stood by, watching for a few seconds, planning to gently pull the blanket to check.
Admittedly, a sleeping Jiang Zhiyi was stunningly beautiful—not cold, not aloof, with flushed cheeks, even a bit cute.
But Cen Qingyi didn’t dare provoke her. Not only was Jiang Zhiyi herself a challenge, but her circle of friends wasn’t easy to deal with either—an international model, a dentist, and that chestnut-curled woman who wasn’t to be trifled with.
Cen Qingyi only waited for Jiang Zhiyi to recover, then she’d clarify things, draw a clear line, and they’d go their separate ways: you take your broad road, I’ll cross my narrow bridge.
Cen Qingyi quietly admired the sleeping beauty, her gaze involuntarily falling on the slightly swollen gland mark by Jiang Zhiyi’s ear.
Was it really inflamed? Cen Qingyi leaned closer, widening her eyes to inspect. A strand of hair seemed stuck on it. She pursed her lips to blow it away when Jiang Zhiyi suddenly opened her eyes…
“You want to steal a kiss,” Jiang Zhiyi stated, her slightly hoarse voice carrying a hint of allure.
Cen Qingyi was speechless… I didn’t, I swear, listen to me, “I didn’t.”
“You’re ashamed of your urge to steal a kiss; your face is red,” the person on the bed stated, seemingly convinced.
Cen Qingyi’s face was red, but from the cold outside, “I’m just cold!”
Cen Qingyi hated being wrongly accused, yet Jiang Zhiyi kept saying, “You just want to steal a kiss.”
In a fit of anger, Cen Qingyi blurted out, “Fine, I want to steal a kiss, so what!”
“You can do it openly.”
“…”
Cen Qingyi was fuming, but the person on the bed smirked, clearly teasing her.
“Looks like you’re better. We need to clear some things up,” Cen Qingyi said, unwilling to wait. “What happened before, we’re about even. Let’s not contact each other anymore, and please ask your friends not to disturb my life…”
Cen Qingyi rattled off her stance, then stood up, “I’ll finish breakfast and leave. Rest well.”
Without giving Jiang Zhiyi a chance to respond, Cen Qingyi grabbed the stack of documents from the floor and left.
She made breakfast as quickly as possible and left the mansion quietly.
As her car drove out of the estate, Cen Qingyi finally felt a rush of regaining control, as if she’d throttled life itself.
The next second, her phone received a new WeChat message. Not only had she failed to throttle life, but life had grabbed her by the hair. [Don’t miss the little green text red packet benefits!]
