Gold-Medal Lawyer Alpha and Her Doctor Jiang - Chapter 6: I Feed You
Chapter 6: I Feed You
Cen Qingyi almost instinctively replied, “I didn’t, I…”
“Where are you?”
“At the entrance.” Wait, why did she obediently answer like that?
The other end gave a short sentence, “I’m hungry.”
Even a fool would understand the meaning behind those words. Moreover, Jiang Zhiyi had helped a lot that morning. Just getting Director Zhou to do the ultrasound was enough for Cen Qingyi to feel grateful. After all, this was Jiang City Concord Hospital, and she had heard how hard it was to get treatment there.
She should indeed express her thanks, but Cen Qingyi didn’t want to see Jiang Zhiyi again. She could imagine that sitting together for a meal would make her feel like she was on pins and needles.
Normally, Cen Qingyi handled social occasions with ease, but in front of the reserved Jiang Zhiyi, she felt a bit overwhelmed from their first meeting, or rather, somewhat at a loss.
“Well… Doctor Jiang,” Cen Qingyi chose her words carefully, “I should sincerely thank you today. Just treating you to a meal can’t fully express my gratitude. I’ll prepare a separate thank-you.”
Cen Qingyi had a perfect plan: prepare a gift, pair it with a banner, and have someone deliver it to Jiang Zhiyi. It would be grand and appropriate.
The other end responded in a cold, clear tone, “If it’s not in person, I’ll refuse it.”
“…” This woman always had a way to get to her. Cen Qingyi thought to herself, I’ll send my gesture, and whether you accept it is your problem. If you don’t take it and things get awkward, we’ll just cut contact, which would be even better.
After a moment of silence, Cen Qingyi wanted to hang up but felt too embarrassed. Jiang Zhiyi didn’t seem inclined to hang up either. It was as if they were engaging in some profound, mysterious exchange—breathing communication.
“Doctor Jiang?”
“Next time we meet, treat me to a meal.”
“Oh… okay.” Cen Qingyi agreed verbally, but in her heart, she thought, Next time? No way there’s a next time. I’d rather die than go to Concord Hospital again.
“Well, Doctor Jiang, I have something to do, so I’ll hang up now.” Cen Qingyi said tentatively. She waited a few seconds, confirmed Jiang Zhiyi didn’t say more, and hung up with a long sigh of relief.
Clearly, Jiang Zhiyi had provoked her that night, yet now Cen Qingyi felt a strange sense of guilt. She couldn’t deny that she had gone overboard that night, leaving her feverish and bedridden for two days… Cen Qingyi held her forehead and muttered to herself, “Cen Qingyi, you idiot. Exercise more in the future and focus on your career.”
Jiang Zhiyi was actually standing at the hospital entrance. That black Volvo XC60 merged into traffic, turned at the intersection, and completely disappeared from her sight.
Jiang Zhiyi raised her hand to gently rub around the glands at the back of her neck to ease the discomfort, then turned to walk back. A long line had already formed outside the consultation room.
Cen Qingyi went home to rest that afternoon, and her heart finally settled. Still, she didn’t dare let her guard down. She decided to look into how to take better care of herself.
This “illness” gave Cen Qingyi a lot to think about. She really needed to change, though she wasn’t sure how yet. Deep down, she started wondering what kind of life she truly wanted.
**
Lost in random thoughts, Cen Qingyi fell into a drowsy sleep. As dusk fell, her phone woke her up.
Cen Qingyi grabbed the phone. It was Qin Zhen calling. She squinted, rolled over, and mumbled a vague “Hello.”
“Sleeping?” Qin Zhen heard her sleepy, soft voice and felt her heart soften, “Did you sleep well?”
“Hmm.” Cen Qingyi closed her eyes, yawned, and went quiet again.
Qin Zhen faintly heard soft breathing. Cen Qingyi seemed to have fallen back asleep. Qin Zhen listened quietly without speaking, until Xiao Ji suddenly came in and called out “Sister Zhen,” startling Cen Qingyi awake.
“Something up?” Cen Qingyi rubbed her eyes, now fully awake.
Xiao Ji smiled apologetically. Qin Zhen waved her off, and Xiao Ji quickly slipped out. At the door, she heard an overly gentle tone, “You promised to pick me up tonight.”
Xiao Ji understood who Qin Zhen was talking to. Qin Zhen was usually gentle but never overly so, and she had a temper but never lost it.
Only with Cen Qingyi did Qin Zhen seem like a different person—excessively gentle, her scary temper reserved for one person.
Cen Qingyi remembered. She stretched lazily, “I know, it’s not time yet.”
“You,” Qin Zhen heard her say she knew, and a hint of sweetness filled her heart, “Can’t you come early? We could spend more time together.”
“You’re there already?”
“Hmm, I came early.” Qin Zhen didn’t want to get mobbed by fans at the airport, “Come now, we can eat together.”
**
The VIP lounge restaurant had private booths and rooms, though the prices were high.
Since Cen Qingyi had promised to come, she didn’t delay. An hour later, she appeared at the VIP lounge restaurant.
Qin Zhen saw her and opened her arms. Cen Qingyi walked over, letting Qin Zhen hug her gently.
Qin Zhen smelled a musk scent different from usual and frowned, “Where did you pick up this smell?”
“Huh?” Cen Qingyi realized half a beat later, it was the Jiulixiang scent on her, “I went to the hospital for a checkup.”
“What’s wrong?” Qin Zhen stepped back, looked her up and down, and asked worriedly, “Where do you feel unwell?”
Cen Qingyi shook her head, “Didn’t you say we’re eating? I’m hungry.”
“What do you want to eat?”
“Anything with meat.”
Qin Zhen smiled indulgently and sighed, “Sometimes I feel you’ve changed, but sometimes you’re still like a little wolf, always clamoring for meat.”
Cen Qingyi didn’t respond, glanced around, “Just the two of us?”
“Hmm.” Qin Zhen teased, “Who else do you want?”
“Xiao Ji’s not eating?”
“Oh, she’ll eat on her own later.” Qin Zhen pulled her closer. The pre-ordered dishes arrived one by one: exquisite wagyu, hand-held sea urchin, salmon sashimi… Qin Zhen picked up a piece and held it out, “Ah~”
“I’ll eat myself.” Cen Qingyi resisted. Qin Zhen pouted, “Come on, my arm’s getting sore.”
Cen Qingyi leaned forward to bite the salmon when the door suddenly opened. She turned her head, and the wasabi made her cough.
**
“Oh my.” A woman with wine-red wavy hair at the door smiled, “I was really embarrassed, but it’s an acquaintance, Sister Zhen.”
“Oh, Tinglan,” Qin Zhen gave a professional smile, “Are you going abroad too?”
“Hmm, flying to Germany for a fashion show.” Gu Tinglan gave Cen Qingyi a meaningful look beside Qin Zhen. Shocked, half the rice wrapped in the salmon fell. She half-joked, “Did I accidentally stumble on Sister Zhen’s romance?”
Cen Qingyi nearly choked. With salmon in her mouth, she could only shake her head. Qin Zhen, used to big scenes, naturally picked up the rice that fell on Cen Qingyi’s clothes and teased, “Tired of living, huh? Teasing me?”
**
“I’ve never seen Sister Zhen feed someone before.” Gu Tinglan’s words grated on Cen Qingyi’s ears. She finally swallowed the rice and explained, “We’re just friends.”
“Ugh, I’m so jealous of your friendship. My friend’s a big iceberg.” Gu Tinglan sighed with a hint of playful charm. Qin Zhen knew this meal wouldn’t be just the two of them anymore, “Tinglan, want to join us?”
“Is that okay?” Gu Tinglan’s eyes curved as she played cute. Cen Qingyi wanted to roll her eyes—such a tall woman acting coy was so out of place.
“Then I’ll sit next to Sister Zhen.” Gu Tinglan sat down. Qin Zhen introduced, “Qingyi, you know her, right? International model Gu Tinglan.”
Cen Qingyi actually didn’t know. She didn’t follow the entertainment industry, “Hello, I’m Cen Qingyi.”
“She’s a lawyer.” Qin Zhen affectionately took Cen Qingyi’s hand, “She’s got a great reputation. In my eyes, she’s a top-notch lawyer.”
Qin Zhen didn’t miss a chance to promote Cen Qingyi, her tone carrying a sense of pride.
Gu Tinglan nodded with a smile, her gaze never leaving Cen Qingyi. Cen Qingyi felt there was something meaningful in that smile. This woman was one of the people with Jiang Zhiyi at the bar that night, the other had chestnut hair.
**
Gu Tinglan’s phone rang. She answered with a couple of “Hmm”s and said, “I ran into an acquaintance here.”
“Your friend?” Qin Zhen asked casually. Gu Tinglan nodded, “She’s coming to pick me up.”
“Then ask her to join us.” Qin Zhen spoke, and Gu Tinglan nodded with a smile.
“Your friend’s lucky, getting fed by a top star. That’s so many people’s dream.” Gu Tinglan chuckled, seeming good-tempered. Qin Zhen picked up a piece of sushi, “With you saying that, I’ve got to feed you one.”
Cen Qingyi could guess Qin Zhen was worried Gu Tinglan might gossip. She’d always been cautious since her debut.
Cen Qingyi understood. After all, Qin Zhen had worked hard for everything she had today.
Cen Qingyi lowered her head and didn’t say more. Qin Zhen secretly tried to hold her hand under the table, but Cen Qingyi dodged as if scalded.
“Qingyi, eat more.” Qin Zhen smiled on the surface, gently touching Cen Qingyi’s shoulder.
“I’m not that hungry.” Cen Qingyi slightly shifted, seeming to avoid the hand on her shoulder. Qin Zhen picked up a piece of grilled wagyu, “Try this.”
“I can do it myself.” Cen Qingyi gestured for Qin Zhen to put it down, not even looking at her.
Qin Zhen’s heart suddenly ached. This kid always kept a cold distance in front of others. Qin Zhen was used to it, but today, for some reason, it felt so jarring, “Tinglan’s not an outsider. She saw me feed you earlier.”
Gu Tinglan nodded with a smile, “Exactly.”
If this went on, it’d get awkward. Cen Qingyi had to lean in. Just as her mouth touched the meat, a knock came, and the door opened.
“Cough, cough.” This time, Cen Qingyi really choked. The meat fell. She never expected Jiang Zhiyi to walk in.
**
Cen Qingyi should’ve guessed earlier. The “big iceberg” the model mentioned was Jiang Zhiyi. Why was it always so coincidental?
“Here you are.” Gu Tinglan stood and waved, “Come, let me introduce. This is Sister Zhen, you know her, right? Qin Zhen, the top star in the entertainment industry now.”
“Hmm.” Apart from that night at the bar and in bed, Jiang Zhiyi always seemed cold. She didn’t show the excitement of meeting a celebrity, “Hello.”
Qin Zhen stared at Jiang Zhiyi for a few seconds, “Hello.”
“This is Jiang Zhiyi, my friend, a doctor.” Gu Tinglan enthusiastically introduced them. Qin Zhen didn’t introduce Cen Qingyi at that moment.
The table fell silent. Cen Qingyi felt a bit nervous because Jiang Zhiyi sat next to her. Whether intentional or not, Jiang Zhiyi’s shoe tip touched her ankle.
“Here, Yiyi.” Qin Zhen picked up a piece of meat and smiled, “You didn’t get to eat earlier.”
“You eat.” Cen Qingyi declined. Qin Zhen insisted on feeding her, holding it to her lips, pouting, “Hurry up.”
Cen Qingyi couldn’t resist and was about to open her mouth when her body jolted. She let out a sound, a soft, drawn-out “ah” with a teasing lilt.
Qin Zhen was startled, “What’s wrong?”
“Leg… leg cramp.” Cen Qingyi’s face flushed. She lowered her head, randomly rubbing her leg to ease the tingling, and glanced at Jiang Zhiyi’s high heel still swaying lightly. She was furious.
Cen Qingyi sat up straight. Jiang Zhiyi was fiddling with her phone. Cen Qingyi grumbled inwardly, You’re a doctor, looking all refined and elegant, yet you’re pulling sneaky moves under the table.
Cen Qingyi’s phone buzzed then. She had a hunch the message was from Jiang Zhiyi.
Sure enough, it was. But… Cen Qingyi’s face reddened. What the hell did she send?
