Guide Her to Nowhere (NPH) - Chapter 1
Chapter 1: Cuddle Time
Qu Tang transmigrated into a novel.
The world she transmigrated to was strange, similar to a post-apocalyptic wasteland where basic order had been restored.
In this world, plants and animals could mutate. All mutated flora and fauna were called aberrants. Humans who were attacked and infected by aberrants would also mutate if their infection level was high.
Humans could also mutate, or more accurately, evolve in two directions:
First were the sentinels who possessed extraordinary senses and combat abilities. They could manifest spiritual forms of predatory animals to fight alongside them but were prone to losing control.
Second were the guides who had strong empathy and spiritual power. They could manifest spiritual forms of herbivorous or omnivorous animals and could pacify sentinels.
Both sentinels and guides were managed by the White Tower. Currently, the number of guides recorded by the White Tower was less than one percent of sentinels, and this ratio continued to decline.
Qu Tang had read countless books and understood the sentinel-guide world well, so adaptation wasn’t difficult. The challenge came when she realized at age ten that she had transmigrated into a book she had read before – an erotic novel.
In this world, guides pacified sentinels through light physical contact, while deeper pacification required sexual intercourse. The original female protagonist spent the entire book engaging in physical intimacy and sex with various handsome men.
The good news was that Qu Tang was not the protagonist.
The bad news was that Qu Tang awakened as a guide at age thirteen.
Help!
Qu Tang unhesitatingly chose to hide her guide identity.
With her doctor father’s help, Qu Tang successfully concealed her identity until age sixteen by using suppressant injections. At sixteen, her father’s clinic treated a deeply infected patient who mutated on the spot, leading to her parents’ unfortunate deaths.
Fortunately, her father had taught her the suppressant formula beforehand. After sixteen, Qu Tang made her own suppressants, but the materials were expensive. Without her parents, she had to drop out of school and work.
To earn money more easily, Qu Tang moved from the suburbs to the city center and worked multiple jobs from early morning to late night.
Her efforts paid off.
She successfully survived until eighteen and had accumulated nearly half a year’s worth of suppressants. However, what worried her was that her employer, Shi Xi, who provided her easiest and highest-paying job, had awakened as a sentinel.
To sentinels, guides were like catnip.
Though Qu Tang used suppressants, her guide identity wasn’t completely erased. Guides’ natural attraction to sentinels was only weakened to barely detectable levels, but close contact could easily expose her.
Fortunately, she rarely had close contact with Shi Xi, though his newly awakened spiritual form was uncontrollable and had nearly touched her several times.
She had to resign, absolutely had to resign.
Qu Tang proposed her resignation to the Time family’s butler. Her job was just walking three dogs, nothing irreplaceable. The butler readily agreed but needed to wait for a replacement.
Qu Tang agreed, but a week passed without finding anyone because none of the applicants were liked by all three dogs.
“Butler Zhou, I really have urgent matters. Can I leave today?” Qu Tang was tired of living in constant anxiety.
The butler looked troubled, “Let me ask the young master.”
“Thank you for your help.”
“Come with me.”
Qu Tang hesitated but couldn’t refuse.
Shi Xi was swimming in the indoor pool behind the main building. The butler asked Qu Tang to wait outside while he went in to report.
Qu Tang leaned against the wall tiredly, her thoughts wandering.
After losing this job, she needed to find new work quickly. Although she had nearly half a year’s worth of suppressants, in this wasteland world, it was very difficult for someone like her without special abilities or connections to find a high-paying job. If her income couldn’t keep up, it meant her suppressant supply would be cut off.
Without suppressants, her guide identity would be exposed, forcing her to face not only multiple pacification duties but also punishment from the White Tower for concealing her identity.
While lost in thought, a shadow caught her peripheral vision. Qu Tang looked over to see a black wolfhound sitting inside the doorway, tilting its head at her.
It was Shi Xi’s spiritual form.
Qu Tang tensed up. She stood straight, faced the black wolfhound, and took a step back.
The black wolfhound immediately stood up and took two steps toward her, its dark bright eyes full of curiosity about Qu Tang.
Shi Xi had just awakened as a sentinel. His spiritual form was mature but had a puppy’s mentality, curious about everything.
Qu Tang lowered her voice, “Good puppy, go back.”
Instead of returning, the black wolfhound rushed toward Qu Tang.
This wasn’t its first time seeing Qu Tang – it had seen her before with the three dogs in the yard.
It thought Qu Tang smelled nice and looked soft, and wanted to cuddle with her, but it disliked those three dogs, so it hadn’t gotten the chance. But now she was alone~
Time to cuddle~
The black wolfhound excitedly rushed at Qu Tang, knocking her to the ground. A faint, pleasant scent entered its nose, making it whimper contentedly before licking Qu Tang’s cheeks and neck.
She really was fragrant and soft.
Whimper, like, really like~
“Young Master?”
In the swimming pool, Butler Zhou didn’t know why his young master suddenly stopped speaking.
Shi Xi covered his nose and lips as his cheeks and ears gradually turned red. He glanced toward the pool entrance, “Never mind, let Qu Tang stay. If she still wants to leave, increase her salary until she’s satisfied.”
After all, his spiritual form seemed to really like her.
