Guide Her to Nowhere (NPH) - Chapter 17: Ran Away
Chapter 17: Ran Away
Qu Tang lived in the infamous slum of Area 4, where the housing consisted mainly of mobile prefabricated buildings, with rudimentary facilities and a poor environment. As a result, the rent and utilities were cheap.
The low cost of living meant that the residents were a diverse bunch – fights, brawls, and even arson were common occurrences.
Qu Tang had lived there for two years. Her room was less than 30 square meters, with only a bathroom as basic amenities.
After moving in, she had added a few of her own things, and the room, though still spartan, was at least clean and habitable. But she wouldn’t be able to stay there anymore.
Upon returning home, Qu Tang quickly packed a backpack, then turned off the lights. In the darkness, she focused her mind and carefully released her spiritual powers.
The reason she lived here, aside from the cheap rent and utilities, was that no one with a status would deign to set foot here, including sentinels. This allowed her to practice using her spiritual powers without being discovered.
Guides may not have the super combat strength of sentinels, but they are naturally more adept at controlling spiritual powers. High-level guides can even control lower-level sentinels through spiritual manipulation. At the same level, they can also influence a sentinel’s perception.
Unfortunately, Qu Tang had been self-injecting suppressants since her guide abilities manifested, so she had great difficulty controlling her spiritual powers, likely inferior even to the lowest C-rank sentinel.
However, after her parents’ death, Qu Tang had been training, and over the past two years, she had made some progress. The suppressed spiritual powers were not enough to handle sentinels, but more than sufficient for ordinary people.
Thus, after detecting the whereabouts of Shi Xi’s men, Qu Tang resolutely opened the door and left.
Goodbye, scumbag.
Scumbag Shi Xi had not slept all night.
At the first light of dawn, Butler Zhou reported to him, “Young master, the two men sent to protect Miss Qu have gone missing.”
Seeing how the young master cared for Qu Tang the previous night, Butler Zhou had taken it upon himself to have the two escorts stay behind to guard her, so they could all return together when Shi Xi went to pick her up the next day. After all, he was well aware of how chaotic the slum area was.
But when dawn broke, the two men who were supposed to report back safe and sound had not made any contact, and their phones were turned off. Something must have happened.
“Young master?”
“Prepare the car.” Shi Xi tossed aside the book he had been staring at all night without finishing a single page.
Seeing Shi Xi’s seemingly calm demeanor, Butler Zhou guessed that the young master had arranged for someone else to secretly protect Qu Tang, so she must be safe.
When they arrived at the slum and entered Qu Tang’s mobile prefab room, the sight that greeted them made Butler Zhou’s heart sink, and he instinctively looked to gauge Shi Xi’s reaction.
Shi Xi was smiling maniacally, his rage palpable.
The room was empty, save for Qu Tang’s “gift” to him – two men tied together, their necks adorned with a ribbon, faces bruised and swollen.
The ribbon was made from the dress Qu Tang had worn back yesterday, which Shi Xi himself had put on her.
What a “delightful” gift, the likes of which he might never encounter again in his life.
Butler Zhou dared not disturb, retreating outside, where he ran into a neighbor, quickly asking if they knew Qu Tang’s whereabouts.
While he couldn’t find out where she went, he did learn about a recent incident – Qu Tang had broken the arm of a man who had molested her.
“That newcomer didn’t know Qu Tang was not to be trifled with. Seeing a young girl alone, he thought he could take liberties, but she broke his arm on the spot.”
“That pig-brain didn’t realize, if she’s living alone in this place, she’s certainly no ordinary girl.”
Butler Zhou was stunned.
Miss Qu was this formidable? Break a man’s arm just for touching her?
Then his young master… would he be alright?
