Guide Her to Nowhere (NPH) - Chapter 18: Can You Come Home With Me?
Chapter 18: Can You Come Home With Me?
Qu Tang left the slum and directly headed to her father’s small clinic on the outskirts of the city.
Two years ago, the clinic had been sealed off and quarantined after the appearance of infected individuals. The quarantine was in place for three years, and now the entire area within a 300-meter radius of the clinic had been cordoned off.
These small-scale infected areas were generally left unattended, and of course, normal people wouldn’t go there.
The only abnormal one was Qu Tang.
The clinic had three floors – the first and second floors were for seeing patients and administering intravenous drips, while the third floor was the home of their family of three. Qu Tang had returned to retrieve a box left behind by her father.
The contents of the box were very important, and Qu Tang dared not carry it with her, instead hiding it at home, as she couldn’t find a safer place than here.
When Qu Tang arrived, it was already daylight. She didn’t rush to go in, as this wasn’t the slum, and she didn’t dare use her spiritual powers. Instead, she circled the clinic, confirming there were no suspicious individuals, before expertly scaling the quarantine barrier and sticking to the eaves to approach the entrance.
At the clinic door, Qu Tang’s steps hesitated for a moment.
She was back here again.
Qu Tang took a deep breath, treading lightly, and entered.
This had been her home for sixteen years, and though it was now unrecognizable, she could still distinguish where her father had seen patients, where the medicine was stored, and where the IV room had been…
No time for nostalgia, Qu Tang quickly ascended to the third floor and entered her bedroom, lifting the moldy, foul-smelling floorboard to retrieve a box from the hidden compartment, which she then stuffed into her backpack.
She wasn’t sure how much Shi Xi knew about her, so she had to prepare for the worst, hoping Shi Xi didn’t know about this place, or at least wouldn’t come too soon.
Lady Luck was finally on her side, and Qu Tang successfully left the clinic without encountering Shi Xi.
Over the next few days, Qu Tang took refuge in several crowded, mixed-population areas, places easy to hide in and also easy to flee from. She only moved when she received a message from Yi Jin, to go meet him.
The meeting place was in the bustling commercial district of Area 4. As she got out of the taxi at the fountain square, Qu Tang immediately spotted a black wolfhound sitting unperturbed about 10 meters away.
Looking past the wolfhound, Qu Tang saw Shi Xi, seated on a wooden bench, elbow on the armrest, chin resting on his hand, and watching her with a smile.
This was the first time Qu Tang had seen Shi Xi outside the manor. He was wearing a casual white shirt, the top two buttons undone, revealing the elegant lines of his collarbones. Even the cuffs were unbuttoned, exposing wrists paler than her own.
Outwardly, Shi Xi hardly looked like a qualified sentinel. His appearance was too delicate, his build too slender, lacking the imposing, burly physique common to other sentinels.
Sitting there, he gave the impression of an ordinary, good-looking high school student.
And it was this appearance that had deceived Qu Tang.
At this moment, Qu Tang felt a sense of relief, as if the Sword of Damocles had finally fallen. She walked over and sat down next to Shi Xi.
Against ordinary people, she could easily take on three at once, but against a sentinel, she was as helpless as a chicken.
She couldn’t escape.
Shi Xi was quite pleased with Qu Tang’s compliance. He grasped her slightly chilled hand. “You’ve had your fun. Can you come home with me now?”
Home? He called it home?
Qu Tang suddenly remembered her father.
Two years ago, her father, his abdomen ripped open by the infected, had forcibly held on to see her, then told her, “Tan Tan, stay away from sentinels, don’t reveal your identity, don’t manifest your spiritual body. It’s Daddy’s fault.”
How could it be your fault? It was I who was greedy, who foolishly thought I could get away with it, who arrogantly thought I knew better. I’m the one who betrayed your instructions.
