Guide Her to Nowhere (NPH) - Chapter 59: Come With Me to See Shi Xi
Chapter 59: Come With Me to See Shi Xi
Finding Yi Jin’s team’s hideout took Shi Xi quite some effort. To avoid tipping them off, he conducted the search in secret, which naturally took longer.
Once he got the intel, Shi Xi rushed over immediately and knocked on the door himself.
Yi Jin opened it, with Shen Qi close behind. Both glared at him with hostility and wariness.
Shi Xi visiting was a first. No need to ask why—everyone knew.
Shi Xi got straight to the point. “I’m here for Qu Tang.”
Denying it was pointless. Yi Jin replied just as directly, “She doesn’t know you. She won’t see you.”
“That’s not certain,” Shi Xi said. He gestured behind him, and his assistant, Yang Qi, handed over a file. “I have something here she’ll definitely be interested in—about… the truth behind her father Qu Changhai’s death.”
Yi Jin and Shen Qi sensed trouble. Sure enough, Qu Tang’s voice came from behind them.
“What truth about his death?”
Shi Xi’s gaze shifted past Yi Jin and Shen Qi to the person walking out from behind them.
Qu Tang dressed casually in a simple cotton loungewear set—a beige striped T-shirt and matching knee-length shorts. Her smooth, long hair draped over her shoulders, giving her a warm, relaxed look.
She seemed to be doing well with Yi Jin. She looked healthier than in her photo, and her vibe was completely different from the shy, gentle girl there.
It was an act, Shi Xi realized instantly. The photo was a façade; this was her real self.
Qu Tang’s eyes were dark and bright, her gaze steady and calm. When she looked at him, she didn’t hide her scrutiny or caution. He could even sense a sharp, hidden hostility.
Shen Qi said she killed four of Xie Li’s men single-handedly. Now, he didn’t doubt it.
This was the real Qu Tang. Shi Xi wasn’t too surprised. She was someone his little brother fancied, after all—she couldn’t just be a bland, ordinary woman.
What surprised him was that Qu Tang was a Guide.
He’d met many Guides, men and women alike. They all shared one trait—fragility, a result of the White Tower’s delicate pampering.
They were weak, physically and spiritually, because they didn’t need to be strong. They were meant to depend on Sentinels and the White Tower to survive.
The Guide before him clearly wasn’t. Compared to Guides, she was more like a Sentinel.
A strange Guide.
“You’re hiding a Guide,” Shi Xi said, looking at Yi Jin and Shen Qi. “If the White Tower finds out, you’ll all be exiled to the contamination zone. If they decide to crack down, you could even face the death penalty.”
“Death penalty,” Shi Xi repeated deliberately, turning to Qu Tang. “That means forcing them into overload and executing them.”
Qu Tang’s breathing faltered for a moment. “You don’t need to threaten us. Get to the point.”
Shi Xi’s eyes flickered, though his glasses hid it well. He handed her the file.
Qu Tang took it.
“Tang Tang,” Yi Jin said, grabbing her hand.
“It’s fine,” Qu Tang replied. She gave him a reassuring smile and pulled free with a slight tug.
She opened the file. Inside were seven or eight printed pages, all stamped with the Elder Council’s seal—official reports on her parents’ deaths. The conclusion: premeditated murder.
Besides her parents, there were others. Though the methods differed, the techniques were similar. These people were all connected to her father. She even recognized two of them.
They were her father’s old colleagues who had visited his small clinic and held her when she was little.
Qu Tang’s fingers tightened, crumpling the papers. “Who did it?”
“I can tell you, but you have to come with me to see Shi Xi,” Shi Xi said, stating his purpose. “Now.”
Qu Tang caught the urgency in his words. “What’s wrong with him?”
Shi Xi didn’t answer. Instead, he asked, “Your decision?”
Before Qu Tang could reply, Yi Jin and Shen Qi grabbed her hands at the same time, gripping hard.
“Tang Tang!”
“Don’t go!”
Qu Tang couldn’t meet their eyes. She looked down at the report in her hands. Attached was a photo of her father from his youth, in a white coat, smiling kindly. His gentle eyes seemed to gaze at her.
“I’m sorry,” Qu Tang said, her words heavy. “Yi Jin, Shen Qi, if my parents were really murdered, I have to avenge them.”
In this world, the only ones who loved her unconditionally—and whom she loved—were her mom and dad. Knowing their deaths were suspicious, how could she pretend otherwise?
“I’ll go with you.”
