Guide To Lying Flat And Getting Rich As A Kept Alpha - Chapter 32

They bought quite a few beautiful accessories at the store, spending 40 yuan. The driver loaded everything into the car, and Cheng Youqing said, “These things make the trip worthwhile. I have a meeting, so I’ll head back to the company first. I’ve asked Xiao Zhang to arrange a moving company for you. They’ll come tomorrow morning, is that okay?”
Assistant Xiao Zhang gave Luo Hetu a standard yet friendly smile.
Luo Hetu had no complaints. She planned to go back and pack up her place, talk to the landlord about moving out, and deal with other arrangements. Earlier, she had asked Xiao Shi to help her find some network administrators, and a few candidates had been lined up for interviews today.
While she calmly went about her tasks, things were exploding on Cheng Youqing’s end.
Chen Yuanyuan immediately called all her acquaintances—she didn’t want to be the only one bursting like fireworks. Word spread among her friends, and some even told their parents.
While Cheng Youqing was in a meeting, her bulky phone, left with her assistant, kept ringing nonstop.
“President Cheng is in a meeting.” Xiao Zhang repeated, exhausted from saying the same line.
By the time Cheng Youqing finished her work, it was already night. Xiao Zhang reported that twelve people had called, making a total of 28 calls.
Cheng Youqing gave a simple “Mm,” didn’t check the call log, and let Xiao Zhang continue holding onto the phone.
That evening, she only spoke to her mother on the phone, ignoring everyone else. She set the phone to silent and went to work the next day as usual. When she finally returned home, she noticed the house had changed slightly.
Luo Hetu didn’t have much luggage. Cheng Youqing had told her not to bring daily necessities, as the house was fully equipped, and to leave behind any unattractive clothes—she’d buy new ones. As a result, Luo Hetu’s entire belongings consisted of a single cardboard box and a bag containing her documents and bankbook.
With so little to move, there was no need for a moving company. Under Xiao Zhang’s supervision, the movers came and left quickly. Luo Hetu was reluctant to part with her two air conditioners, but in the end, she left them with the landlord in exchange for a refund of her remaining rent.
The house didn’t have anything out of place—just one extra person.
Cheng Youqing’s permanent residence was a small Western-style villa, built in an earlier era. The house was of excellent quality, but the wooden furniture and floors had needed repairs. Cheng Youqing had recently spent a fortune replacing everything, resulting in a comfortable and relaxing American-style aesthetic.
The villa had three floors. A cook and a cleaner, both betas, lived there full-time. Cheng Youqing’s bedroom was on the second floor, and Luo Hetu, now moved in, stayed in the room next to hers.
The bedroom was also in the American style, with a dark solid wood bed and wardrobe, warm white bedding, and a carpet. Luo Hetu quite liked it—it felt cozy. The window faced the sun, and outside was a lush expanse of greenery, soothing to the eyes.
Still, living in someone else’s home for the first time wasn’t as carefree as being in her own space.
As Luo Hetu stepped out of her room, she happened to see Cheng Youqing returning from work. From the second-floor hallway, she could see the entrance on the first floor. Cheng Youqing came in, handed her bag to the housekeeper, and looked up.
That’s when she saw the new person in her home.
Cheng Youqing climbed the stairs and asked Luo Hetu, “Have you seen the room? Are you satisfied?”
“It’s nice.” Luo Hetu replied.
“Good. Besides the bedroom, you can use the study too.”
She walked past Luo Hetu, who naturally followed her.
Cheng Youqing opened the door to the room next to hers, revealing a study lined with bookshelves. There was a large solid wood desk with a computer and plenty of space for writing.
“I’m usually here in the evenings. If you want to read during the day, feel free to use it. You can read any of these books.” Cheng Youqing paused, then added, “Or maybe I should set up another study for you. If you want to write at night, this might not be convenient.”
Luo Hetu wanted to say she didn’t need to write, but the words didn’t come out. Her mind shifted, and she pushed her luck: “Can I bring the computer from my internet café?”
Cheng Youqing glanced at her. “I can buy you the most expensive one.”
“No need. I might not be used to an expensive one. The one I have is already set up perfectly.”
Many of its components were sourced from the system’s mall, far advanced compared to the clunky computers of this era.
Cheng Youqing, unaware of what “set up perfectly” meant, gave her a curious look but respected her wishes as always. “Alright, I’ll have Xiao Zhang arrange for someone to move it.”
They then toured the house, and Cheng Youqing introduced her to the two housekeepers again. Both were betas, kind and efficient. They looked at Luo Hetu with pity. “Why are you so thin? A skinny alpha isn’t healthy. You should eat more—it’ll help when you get pregnant.”
Luo Hetu’s face flushed. Pregnant? Already thinking that far? Then she realized—wait, in this world, wasn’t it omegas who got pregnant? What did this have to do with her?
She shot a confused look at Cheng Youqing.
As calmly as if explaining a report, Cheng Youqing said, “I’m a top-tier omega. They’re worried your body might not handle it.”
Luo Hetu: …
Handle what, exactly?
She wasn’t trying to be cheeky—she genuinely wanted to know so she could prepare.
At dinner that evening, the cook was all smiles. “Marriage really changes things. Miss hasn’t come home for dinner on time in ages. Now that there’s an alpha at home, she’ll remember to come back earlier.”
Cheng Youqing gave a soft “Mm.”
Her response was so natural that Luo Hetu felt a bit at a loss. She still hadn’t settled into the role of Cheng Youqing’s alpha. Rather than feeling like a spouse, she felt more like a guest invited to stay for a few days. She wasn’t used to it and wanted to avoid causing trouble.
That night passed uneventfully. After dinner, Cheng Youqing went to the study, leaving Luo Hetu to her own devices. Feeling more at ease, Luo Hetu stayed in her bedroom, diving into the system to work on problems.
After a while, Cheng Youqing, thinking she could rest early since there was nothing urgent, passed by Luo Hetu’s room. She wanted to check if Luo Hetu was feeling uncomfortable.
The door was slightly ajar, suggesting Luo Hetu wasn’t opposed to visitors. Cheng Youqing knocked twice, gently pushed the door open, and saw Luo Hetu sitting with her knees drawn up, staring blankly into space.
She looked frail, sitting there alone, almost pitiable.
Cheng Youqing watched for a moment before knocking again.
Luo Hetu snapped out of it, turning to the door. Under the warm yellow light, Cheng Youqing had removed her makeup and was wearing a purple silk nightdress. Her hair was clipped back with a claw clip, with two strands falling by her ears. In the light, her cheeks seemed to glow softly, her usually cool features softened, revealing a stunning beauty beneath her icy exterior.
Luo Hetu had been working on increasingly difficult problems in the system’s mall, fully immersed in brainstorming. Seeing Cheng Youqing like this, she couldn’t tell if she was in reality or still in the virtual world.
So, rather than being struck by her beauty, she stared at Cheng Youqing in a daze.
Seeing her like this, Cheng Youqing thought for a moment before speaking. “Before we got married, I thought you were a bit lazy but clever. I didn’t realize you could be this… slow.”
Her tone carried a hint of regret, making Luo Hetu think she might be having second thoughts about the marriage.
No way! That wouldn’t do!
Luo Hetu suddenly felt anxious. She jumped off the bed and hurried to Cheng Youqing’s side. “I’m not slow! I’m plenty smart!”
Her sudden movement startled Cheng Youqing. Standing a head taller, Luo Hetu looked down at her, then fell silent again. Cheng Youqing thought to herself that Luo Hetu didn’t exactly seem smart right now.
Just to be safe, she said, “Tomorrow, I’ll have Xiao Zhang take you for an IQ test.”
Luo Hetu looked utterly confused.
“Don’t worry. I just don’t like people who are too slow. Rest early.”
With that, Cheng Youqing saw a flicker of grievance on Luo Hetu’s face, gave a soft smile, and returned to her own bedroom.
In this new environment, Luo Hetu felt less free than at her own place. Unsure of how Cheng Youqing expected her to act, she spent her first night in their shared home feeling a bit lost.
The next morning, Luo Hetu, used to waking early, went for a morning run. When she returned, she ran into Cheng Youqing, who had just gotten up.
Cheng Youqing looked at her in surprise. “Where did you go?”
“Morning run,” Luo Hetu said, wiping sweat from her face with a towel. Her fair skin was flushed, her features sharp and charming.
“Miss Luo went running so early? Young people who exercise in the morning are rare these days,” the cook said with a warm smile, bringing out breakfast.
Cheng Youqing hadn’t expected someone so seemingly lazy to have a morning run habit. Assuming it might just be for show, she didn’t think much of it. Luo Hetu said she’d shower first. By the time she came to the dining room, Cheng Youqing had finished eating. Dressed and made up, ready to leave, Cheng Youqing stood up, said, “I’m done,” and was escorted out by the housekeeper.
They hadn’t exchanged a single word at the table.
The breakfast was lavish and delicate—steamed buns, soy milk, century egg porridge, and various Chinese pastries, beautifully arranged.
Luo Hetu pursed her lips and took a sip of soy milk.
“Not to your taste?” the cook asked kindly. “Alphas need to eat more. They get hungry easily.”
Since arriving, the cook had been especially kind to her, her warm smile reminiscent of a caring elder.
The cleaner came out of a room, glanced at Luo Hetu, and said, “She’s new here and probably not used to it yet. Let her eat what she wants—it’s fine if there’s leftovers.”
Though the cleaner wasn’t as smiley, her straightforward manner reminded Luo Hetu of Ye Qingzhu’s grandmother, who supposedly scolded her in a dream.
Suddenly, Luo Hetu felt more at ease. Both housekeepers were good people. She was just adjusting to a new environment—she’d get used to it. A genius hacker like her, loved by all, wouldn’t let herself get down just because she’d suddenly married a beautiful woman who wasn’t particularly warm toward her!
