Guide To Lying Flat And Getting Rich As A Kept Alpha - Chapter 36
36
When Zhou Chenghuan received the call from Cheng Youqing, she felt like her worldview was about to shatter, so she rushed over at top speed.
She was determined to see for herself how this top-tier Omega had managed to “ruin” a defective Alpha within one night.
Upon arriving at Cheng Youqing’s home, she went straight to the bedroom. The window was slightly open for ventilation, but the lingering scent from the chaotic night wasn’t so easily dissipated. Luo Hetu was lying there, feverish and flushed.
Zhou Chenghuan frowned as she approached, her first words sharp:
“Dry and wet separation—you know I’ve told you this before. Did you think her fever wasn’t bad enough?”
Cheng Youqing’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she coughed lightly. “I was worried she’d feel worse, so I didn’t move her.”
In truth, she couldn’t move her. Calling Aunt Wang and Aunt Li for help felt too awkward, so she thought piling on a couple of extra blankets and wiping her sweat would suffice.
Zhou Chenghuan disapproved entirely and called the two aunts to assist. Thankfully, Cheng Youqing had already dressed the Alpha in pajamas. With everyone’s help, they moved her to another bedroom. The whole ordeal left Cheng Youqing feeling utterly humiliated.
Once the aunts left, their expressions full of knowing sympathy, Cheng Youqing pushed Zhou Chenghuan with a scowl. “Check on her first. Don’t let her fever get worse.”
“You’re already feeling sorry for her? You really don’t know how to take care of people. Smothering her like that in a room reeking of that smell? Being your Alpha must be tough.” Zhou Chenghuan said, shaking her head as she put on her stethoscope to examine Luo Hetu, all while continuing her teasing. “I told you to find a top-tier Alpha, but you picked a useless one. You’re so frigid, you think anyone will do, but you don’t consider how exhausting it is for them. Look, you’ve gone and made her sick.”
Cheng Youqing pressed her throbbing temples, enduring Zhou Chenghuan’s gleeful mockery.
After a few minutes of examination, Zhou Chenghuan’s expression turned serious. “Something’s off. She’s about to differentiate.”
“What?” Cheng Youqing was stunned. “Her ID and household registration say she’s an adult.”
She hadn’t broken any laws, had she?!
Zhou Chenghuan didn’t have time to explain. “Get someone to take her to the hospital.”
Cheng Youqing quickly called her assistant, Xiao Zhang, for help. The driver sped them to the hospital.
After a thorough check, the doctor’s face was grim. “It’s indeed a precursor to differentiation. While most people differentiate during puberty, some have unique constitutions. She needs to be admitted. Given her age, we can’t risk complications due to her special physiology.”
Cheng Youqing’s every move naturally attracted attention, so news quickly spread through Jiang City’s business circles: the useless Alpha Cheng Youqing had married was hospitalized just days after their wedding.
The business community, big and small, buzzed with gossip, especially among the younger crowd who were close in age to Cheng Youqing.
[“LOL, this useless Alpha not only has no money or status but is also in such poor health.”]
[“Hey, Chen Yuanyuan, didn’t you meet that Alpha? Is she that weak?”]
[“She didn’t seem weak. Maybe it’s just a cold or something.”]
[“Chen Yuanyuan, you’re actually defending Cheng Youqing now?”]
[“Shut up! Defending her? I can’t stand her! I just think that Alpha has it rough, stuck with a cold-as-ice Omega like Cheng Youqing. She’s probably whipped into submission daily.”]
[“…Chen Yuanyuan, stop talking. Some Alphas might see that as a reward.”]
[“…”]
[“Wait, that reminds me—Cheng Youqing’s a top-tier Omega, right? What level is this useless Alpha?”]
[“No idea.”]
[“Never heard anything. A top-tier Omega should be with a top-tier Alpha. It’s not like Cheng Youqing couldn’t find one. If this useless Alpha isn’t even top-tier, what does she see in her?”]
[“No matter her level, Cheng Youqing’s been a top-tier Omega for years and never found someone to ease her heat cycles. She’s been relying on suppressants. Now that she’s married and ‘broken her fast,’ did she wear this Alpha out?”]
The group fell silent.
[“Top-tier Omegas are hard to satisfy.”] An Alpha spoke up timidly.
[“That’s just because you’re not high-level enough.”]
[“Level is just innate talent. It still depends on the individual’s constitution.”]
[“True, plenty of top-tier Alphas can’t satisfy top-tier Omegas. After all, top-tier Omegas are naturally…”]
[“Zhang Peng, who are you shading?”]
[“Hey, you two, don’t start fighting!”]
These young people were gathered at a bustling business banquet, where their parents were busy networking. Unlike their parents, who were obsessed with making money, this generation of second-gen heirs focused on standing out and being unique. Some played rock music, others raced cars, dabbled in art, or had dozens of fleeting romances. Some ran small businesses with pocket money, hoping to earn a bit of praise as “worthy successors.” But someone like Cheng Youqing—trained from childhood to be a straight-A student, climbing the ranks methodically to become the backbone of her company by thirty—was truly one of a kind.
Because she never rebelled, she stood out too much, inevitably drawing attention. Before this, she had little to gossip about—always buried in work, so frigid she’d never even had a partner. Her sudden marriage to a penniless Alpha, who ended up in the hospital shortly after, was too juicy for the crowd not to discuss with relish.
As the young heirs grew rowdy, sparked by two romantic rivals fighting over an Omega, a sweet-looking woman entered the venue, arm-in-arm with her male companion.
“Who’s that?” A girl who looked like a princess, uninterested in the brawl, asked Chen Yuanyuan while filing her nails.
Chen Yuanyuan glanced over with a sneer. “The Sun family’s great-granddaughter, I think. The one next to her is the fake great-granddaughter. They’re probably about to start some drama.”
The princess rolled her eyes, bored. “Lame.”
The true and fake great-granddaughters’ squabbles were beneath the second-gen heirs’ notice—the Sun family was far below their league. After watching the two idiots fight and bicker, they were ready to dig deeper into which hospital Cheng Youqing’s Alpha was in to confirm if she’d been “drained dry.” But Zheng Xiaolong, with a sour expression, kept mocking Cheng Youqing and her Alpha. Just as he was getting heated, the great-granddaughter approached with her boyfriend.
“Are you all talking about my aunt?” Chun Yuyan’s voice was pleasant, her expression tinged with delicate concern. “I just heard—maybe my aunt’s been under too much work stress. It’s understandable she might act impulsively. Speaking of which, the Alpha she married is an old acquaintance of mine and Zhang Sheng’s.”
The handsome male Alpha beside her nodded. “Luo Hetu was into Yan’er for years.”
The second-gen heirs exchanged glances.
This overlooked Sun family great-granddaughter was clearly trying to ingratiate herself by offering up gossip. Though her clumsy attempt wasn’t impressive, they weren’t about to turn down free tea.
“Luo Hetu’s decent-looking and a good person. She helped me a lot.” Chun Yuyan said kindly, before her tone shifted. “But she’s a useless Alpha with nothing in her glands. So, even though she’s nice, I only saw her as a friend—nothing more.”
The gossiping crowd fell silent. A few pieces of cantaloupe literally dropped to the floor.
“Cheng Youqing married a defective Alpha?”
“No wonder she ended up in the hospital.”
“What’s Cheng Youqing after? Eating a defective Alpha’s glands?”
“Eating a defective Alpha’s glands is pointless. Besides, if Cheng Youqing wanted one, she wouldn’t need to marry her for it.”
“My god, I’m starting to pity this useless Alpha. Already defective, and now tormented nightly by a top-tier Omega? She’s lucky to be alive, haha…”
Zheng Xiaolong’s face turned green as he spewed curses, saying Cheng Youqing would rather marry a useless Alpha than him—either she was crazy or a hopeless romantic. A top-tier Omega with a brain like that was as good as useless, and the Zheng family wouldn’t take her even if offered.
As the chaotic gossip swirled, a young, beautiful girl stormed over, her gentle voice trembling with anger as she shouted at Chun Yuyan, “You’re lying! You’re the one who kept pestering Teacher Luo, and now you’re spreading rumors that she’s useless? How can an Omega be so malicious?”
The crowd perked up: More tea!
Chun Yuyan studied the girl for a moment, recognizing her as the one with Luo Hetu at the milk tea shop. She smirked. “Oh, it’s you. But I’m telling the truth. I didn’t expect Luo Hetu to be chasing me while stringing along so many other Omegas. I was fooled by her honest facade. Little sister, you’re the one being deceived. She clearly picked the richest Omega she could find—she’s already married. I’d advise you not to cling too hard.”
Xu Ruyan, fresh from her college entrance exams and on break, was attending a high-profile business-political gala with her father. She didn’t know these people, and the adults’ networking had little to do with her. Luckily, Sun Yinuo was there, so they’d been hanging out at the dessert table. If she hadn’t gone to grab a drink for Sun Yinuo, she wouldn’t have overheard these well-dressed young people talking, let alone gotten so angry.
“You’re slandering Teacher Luo! You need to apologize!”
“Hah, how are you so sure I’m lying? Luo Hetu is a useless Alpha. You’re young—she probably had enough conscience not to do anything to you. Otherwise, you’d know she’s incapable.”
Chun Yuyan’s expression carried a knowing look, implying that Luo Hetu had tried something with her but lacked the ability. That’s how she knew Luo was truly useless. Yet, this soft-rice-eating Alpha had turned around and seduced other Omegas, ultimately landing a rich, beautiful sugar mama.
Xu Ruyan was furious but too soft-spoken to retort harshly. Beyond insisting, “You’re wrong,” she didn’t know what else to say. Sun Yinuo, arriving to find her friend, was ready to roll up her sleeves and demand who was bullying her sister when Zheng Xiaolong piped up:
“Then Cheng Youqing deserves it. Who knows what tricks this useless Alpha used to charm her. Now that she knows she can’t satisfy her in bed, I wonder if she regrets it. If she divorces now and comes crawling to me, the Zheng family wouldn’t take her. Some of you were secretly competing for her before, right? She probably won’t be so picky now. If you think you’re physically up for it and won’t end up in the hospital, better hurry.”
Sun Yinuo, still in her fairy-like dress, lunged at Zheng Xiaolong’s collar. “Who gave you the guts to talk about my sister like that?!”
As the adults were deep in business discussions, they noticed the banquet descending into chaos. Their precious heirs were causing a ruckus in one corner, arguing fiercely and even starting to fight.
