Has The Live-in Alpha Stepped Up - Chapter 13
13: What Do You Want From Me?
But as it turned out, one egg was not enough for An Yizhu either.
Yu Guqiu’s cooking skills were unexpectedly excellent—at least when it came to frying eggs, they were perfect. None of the strange scenarios An Yizhu had imagined came to pass.
After cautiously taking a small bite of the edge, An Yizhu quickly devoured the rest. “This is delicious!” Seeing Yu Guqiu’s indifferent reaction, she thought she didn’t believe her and added, “How did you do this? (Chew chew chew) The heat control is (chew chew chew) just right!! This is so good (chew chew chew), the crispy outer layer of the egg white (chew chew chew) and the runny yolk!”
An Yizhu looked like she was about to write an 800-word essay praising this egg.
Yu Guqiu watched An Yizhu.
Her lips, glistening with oil, moved busily as she chattered nonstop between bites, as if she had endless things to say and endless food to eat.
After observing for a while, Yu Guqiu casually handed her a napkin.
An Yizhu took it but didn’t seem to know what to do with it. Instead of using it, she licked her lips, revealing her little canine teeth before taking another big bite of toast.
“This flavor! The crisp crust and chewy center! The wheat is so fragrant, it’s like running through a wheat field!”
An Yizhu’s descriptions were still exaggerated, but she genuinely felt that way.
Images of falling into a wheat field flashed through her mind.
It was like a scene from Cooking Master Boy!
She wondered if this world even had Cooking Master Boy. If not, would remaking this classic anime count as plagiarism?
An Yizhu finally stopped talking. Chewing on her toast, her mind wandered to all sorts of whimsical thoughts—everything except serious matters.
Yu Guqiu also ate her breakfast slowly, listening to An Yizhu’s endless chatter without finding it annoying. She even tried to savor the flavors An Yizhu had described.
Indeed, just as An Yizhu had said—the eggs were delicious, and so was the toast.
After breakfast, Yu Guqiu changed into formal attire and went into the study. She had woken up early because of an international meeting.
An Yizhu also returned to her room to change out of her pajamas.
She neatly packed up everything she had used the day before and placed it in a small corner at the foot of the bed.
Minimizing inconvenience to others was something she was very good at.
With the remaining time, she went to the guest room.
Though the guest room had only been roughly sketched in her manuscript, it had never been neglected.
The room was fully furnished with all the essentials and showed signs of regular upkeep—clean, tidy, and matching the overall decor of the house.
An Yizhu took out her cracked phone and started listing the things she needed to buy in her notes, imagining how to decorate the guest room in a way that she liked but wouldn’t make Yu Guqiu uncomfortable.
She even found paper and a pen in the room and began sketching a rough layout of how the room could look after some simple modifications.
Two hours later, when An Yizhu stepped out of the room, she saw Yu Guqiu had already finished her meeting and was sitting on the living room sofa, texting on her phone.
But her expression was grim.
The meeting must not have gone well.
An Yizhu had nowhere to hide, so she sat at the far end of the sofa, nervously twisting her fingers as she waited for Yu Guqiu to speak.
Yu Guqiu put away her phone and stood up, giving a crisp command: “Let’s go.”
An Yizhu quickly got up.
With a single glance, Yu Guqiu noticed that An Yizhu had been in the guest room the whole time.
And in the master bedroom, all the things An Yizhu had used were neatly packed away—she had minimized her presence in the house as much as possible.
Yu Guqiu’s irritation faded.
Though she didn’t want to admit it, the most comforting thing these past few days had indeed been An Yizhu herself.
Considering they would have to spend a lot more time together in the future, Yu Guqiu rarely took the initiative to extend goodwill.
“You can use anything in the house. A cleaning service comes regularly, so you don’t need to worry about tidying up.”
An Yizhu listened carefully, realizing that her efforts to organize had been noticed.
This cold, aloof beauty seemed to appreciate her behavior but was also making it clear in her own way that she didn’t need to be so cautious in the future.
“Does that mean I can just relax and be a carefree CEO’s wife?” An Yizhu blurted out, unable to suppress a bright smile.
Yu Guqiu, who had just stepped onto the doormat to change her shoes, paused.
An Yizhu, barefoot on the floor, also stopped at the edge of the mat, watching Yu Guqiu’s expression.
Had she said something wrong?
An Yizhu quickly corrected herself: “Actually, the ‘CEO’s wife’ thing was just a joke. If we need to keep the marriage a secret, I’ll fully cooperate. You don’t have to worry about me.”
But Yu Guqiu looked at her in confusion. “When did I ever say we’d keep it a secret?”
“Huh?” An Yizhu froze. Did that mean…
Did that mean she was going to give her a grand wedding, making her the happiest woman in the world?
And announce it to the whole world…
“As the current CEO of the group company, I have responsibilities to the board of directors. A major event like marriage must be publicly disclosed.” Yu Guqiu stated.
An Yizhu’s thoughts screeched to a halt.
Oh. Right, right. That did sound more like something a career-driven villainess would do.
Yu Guqiu glanced at An Yizhu’s changing expression but said nothing, stepping into her shoes and walking out.
An Yizhu, seeing the distance widening, hurriedly put on her shoes and followed.
Yu Guqiu stood in front of the elevator, pressed the button, and added, “I’ll draft a prenuptial agreement today. If you have any requests, let me know. Although our marriage will be public, and the media will definitely pay attention to my marital status, your personal information can still be kept confidential to make it easier for you to leave later.”
Hearing this, An Yizhu couldn’t help but pout, feeling displeased.
Wasn’t this ice-cold beauty being a little too ruthless?
They weren’t even married yet, and she was already talking about leaving and divorcing!
Though An Yizhu had been given this rare chance at rebirth and planned to enjoy life to the fullest, with Yu Guqiu standing right in front of her, how could she let this opportunity slip away?
No matter what, she had to help this villainess break free from her novel-bound fate and step into a bright future—that was the only way this second life would be worthwhile!
“Hey! Wait for me!” Seeing Yu Guqiu enter the elevator and the doors closing without her stopping them, An Yizhu quickly dashed in. (Dangerous behavior—do not imitate.)
An Yizhu touched her face, a little embarrassed, but still shamelessly said, “I only have one request—give me some pocket money every month.”
Yu Guqiu, watching An Yizhu’s awkward expression through the elevator’s mirrored surface, frowned instead.
“If you think I might even skimp on your pocket money, then why did you agree to this marriage of convenience in the first place?” Her voice was icy. “What do you want from me?”
The warmth from breakfast had completely vanished again.
