Has The Live-in Alpha Stepped Up - Chapter 4
4: She Wants to Marry Me
An Yizhu slowly opened her eyes, inhaling the familiar scent of disinfectant.
She had had a long, chaotic dream.
It started on a stormy night when she met Yu Guqiu.
Then, the scenes shifted rapidly—she returned to the hospital room, bidding farewell to her mother, younger sister, and father one last time, her heart at peace.
But dreams always end, and she had returned to reality.
As her vision focused, she noticed that the room looked slightly different from the hospital room she remembered.
The iron-gridded window still sliced the sunlight into small squares that fell onto the pure white bedsheets.
One thing felt strange—though her arms were still hooked up to various monitors, there was no IV needle inserted.
An Yizhu glanced down and reached for the button to adjust the bed.
She fumbled for a while, just barely missing it, until frustration made her kick her legs and suddenly sit up.
?!
Her eyes widened in shock as she bolted upright.
“Ah—!”
A sharp pain tore through the wound on her left abdomen, freezing her in place.
But her mind was clear, locking onto one possibility.
Just then, a sharp reprimand came from the next room.
“Have you all had enough?”
The familiar, icy voice cut through the door with undeniable force.
Only then did An Yizhu realize that, accustomed to the usual hospital noise, she had unconsciously tuned out the sounds.
From the start, the next room had been crowded with people.
“Xiao Qiu, why are you so angry? We’re just looking out for you. An Omega shouldn’t always be obsessing over business.”
“That’s right, an Omega needs an Alpha to take care of them. What if something like this happens again?”
“Allergies can be treated—it’s not like we can’t afford it. Medicine is advanced now; there’s always a way.”
The voices overlapped, each seemingly concerned, yet every word carried the familiar undertone of oppression.
Unlike the real world, the ABO universe had its own unique way of devouring people.
These fragmented conversations and the wound on her side confirmed one thing for An Yizhu—her encounter with Yu Guqiu hadn’t been a dream.
She had stayed in this world!
After calming herself, An Yizhu surveyed her surroundings.
This room and the one next to it, where Yu Guqiu was, seemed to form a suite. For some reason, she had been placed in what was likely a converted companion care room.
This also indirectly meant her condition wasn’t serious—just a minor issue.
She carefully sat up, removed the monitors, found her slippers, and stood.
Indeed, as long as she didn’t strain the wound, the pain was manageable. Walking wasn’t a problem.
She cautiously made her way to the door and cracked it open, peering out curiously.
On the other side of the wall, chaos unfolded.
Six or seven middle-aged men and women packed the spacious room, turning it into a cramped stage for drama.
At that moment, a man was speaking up for Yu Guqiu: “Young people nowadays marry late. Xiao Qiu has her own choices—why force her?”
“This is all your fault!” A shrill, piercing female voice cut in. “Xiao Qiu was fine when she went to the factory today. How did she suddenly go into heat? Did you do something? Don’t think we don’t know you’ve been secretly scheming with the Tao family!”
Her aggressive tone and clicking high heels echoed as she advanced on the man.
But the man, seemingly prepared, stood his ground and retorted in a deep voice, “Meng Jiayang! Are you out of your mind? I’m Xiao Qiu’s uncle—we share the same surname, Yu! How could I harm her? And what would I gain from forcing her into heat? The old factory’s profits are down—I need Xiao Qiu’s help too!”
An Yizhu listened intently, analyzing every word and matching it to the original novel’s plot.
Unfortunately, these relatives of the female antagonist had barely any presence in the book, making it impossible to identify them quickly.
Yu Guqiu sat on the hospital bed, stirring a bowl of fish soup with a silver spoon, long gone cold.
She hadn’t absorbed a single word and had no interest in responding.
But she knew that unless she said something shocking, this farce wouldn’t end.
Now that all the key players were present, it was time for a show.
She lifted her gaze, a faint smirk tugging at her lips.
Admittedly, pheromones were as miraculous as the textbooks claimed.
Especially between a newly marked Omega and Alpha—no matter how stealthily the Alpha moved, the Omega would always sense it.
Yu Guqiu set down the spoon and said, “No need to hide behind the door. If you want to listen, come out properly.”
The room fell dead silent, leaving only the hum of medical equipment.
An Yizhu, hiding behind the door, clung to a sliver of hope—Maybe there’s another door in the room?
Unfortunately, the door she was hiding behind was promptly pushed open by a middle-aged woman.
The aunt who opened the door had kind eyes and didn’t seem hostile.
She helped An Yizhu up and said, “Miss An, come out.”
An Yizhu was baffled—how did this aunt even know her surname?
She was led to Yu Guqiu’s bedside.
Now, she could see clearly—besides the aunt who helped her, five other elders were present.
The awkwardness was palpable, like being dragged in front of distant relatives during the New Year.
Worse, “Mom” was silently encouraging her to act natural.
How was she supposed to act natural?!
One hand secretly wiped the sweat from her palm while the other stiffly rose in greeting. “Hello, everyone. I’m An Yizhu.”
Yu Guqiu, sitting on the bed, lowered her head to hide her barely suppressed amusement. She hadn’t expected An Yizhu to be this awkward. Still, the fact that she was cooperating deserved praise.
But the scene left everyone else stunned.
Where did this unfamiliar girl come from?
She had been in the next room this whole time?
And she was also in a hospital gown—had they been admitted together last night?
Before the relatives could process this, Yu Guqiu dropped another bombshell:
“She marked me last night.”
“WHAT?!” The shrill woman and the deep-voiced man shouted in unison.
An Yizhu was also stunned.
Marked?
What mark?
Her memories of last night were hazy.
But she knew what marking meant—an Alpha’s confirmation of an Omega’s pheromones.
It could only happen between an Alpha and an Omega.
Yu Guqiu was an Omega, but how was she an Alpha?
An Yizhu reached up in confusion and touched the back of her neck.
A small bump—covered with a suppressant patch.
Looking up, the invisible mix of licorice and rose in the air wasn’t an illusion.
Fragmented memories surfaced—dreamlike moments of intimacy with the beautiful older sister, making her cheeks burn.
So, the dizzy, feverish sensations she’d felt while walking yesterday had been her body differentiating?
Alpha differentiation was said to enhance physical traits—no wonder she felt taller when she stood earlier!
Wait—yes!
Last night, after differentiating, her fangs had grazed delicate skin, the sweet taste lingering on her teeth.
An Yizhu’s face flushed uncontrollably.
Meanwhile, her gesture of touching her neck was like a blatant taunt in front of these Betas.
“But aren’t you allergic to Alpha pheromones?” The shrill voice spoke up again.
Yu Guqiu smiled. “Aunt Meng, didn’t you say modern medicine could cure me?”
She paused, relishing the woman’s speechlessness, then added, “Besides, I’m not allergic to her pheromones.”
An Yizhu’s brain worked overtime.
She studied the shrill-voiced aunt—though she didn’t recognize luxury brands, the woman’s outfit screamed high-end. The watch was unfamiliar, but the three large diamond rings were impossible to miss.
Then it clicked—this was Yu Guqiu’s second aunt, Meng Jiayang.
The Meng family had four children, each name containing the character “Jia”, whether intentionally or not, forming the phrase “brilliant sun shines high”. The eldest sister, second sister, Yu Guqiu’s father, and the youngest sister.
Of them, this second aunt was the most money-obsessed and ostentatious.
In the original novel, Yu Guqiu, as the antagonist, was already fully villainous by her introduction.
Though the reasons for her downfall weren’t fully explained, one key factor was her Alpha pheromone allergy.
The only exception was the female lead Alpha—her childhood friend and unrequited love—to whom she once said, “You’re the only one who makes me feel safe.”
But now, she wasn’t allergic to An Yizhu’s pheromones!
This was incredible luck!
This meant An Yizhu could help her—no need to worry about tampered medicine, no need to compromise, no need to pine after the female lead Alpha.
She wouldn’t have to become the tragic villain!
She could be a bold, unstoppable female lead instead!
An Yizhu straightened proudly, beaming at Yu Guqiu.
Yu Guqiu noticed the smile but didn’t meet her gaze, keeping her eyes downcast.
That radiant grin was like sunlight pouring through the window—blinding in a way that felt almost… painful.
It was more entertaining to watch the elders’ expressions.
The three aunts’ faces were like still water.
Uncle Yu Feng looked utterly bewildered.
Only Aunt Yu Liu, her mother’s elder sister and closest friend, smiled sincerely.
Seizing the moment, Yu Guqiu allowed herself a faint, triumphant smirk and pressed further:
“Also, Yizhu and I will be getting married soon.”
“Huh?” This time, even An Yizhu couldn’t hide her surprise.
Yu Guqiu glanced at her, her eyes asking, Why do you look so clueless?
An Yizhu was lost—Did I skip a few chapters? I really don’t know about this!
But she couldn’t falter in front of these relatives. She reached out and clasped Yu Guqiu’s hand.
“That’s right, I’ll take responsibility!” Though she had no idea how things had escalated like this, An Yizhu declared firmly, “Esteemed elders, please entrust Yu Guqiu to me! I’ll protect her with my life and treat her well. No one will ever bully her!”
Her tone was resolute—the “no one” included everyone present.
Even Yu Guqiu was taken aback. An indescribable warmth stirred in her chest, making the heart monitor spike erratically.
The honest beeping only made the elders more uncomfortable.
How had Yu Guqiu, who always kept people at arm’s length, suddenly found herself a love-struck young girl?
All those elite Alphas they’d introduced had been rejected—was it because they weren’t young enough?
Not cute enough?
Everyone scrutinized An Yizhu, their schemes thrown into disarray by this unremarkable, unknown girl.
Meng Jiayang was the first to recover. “Does your father know about this marriage? No—your grandmother is in the capital right now, invited by the Luan family. She definitely doesn’t know!”
Yu Guqiu corrected coolly, “Wrong, Second Aunt. I’m not marrying her—she’s marrying me.”
What?!
The room erupted again. Everyone looked between Yu Guqiu and An Yizhu.
As if by some unspoken agreement, they all demanded in unison:
“You’re marrying her?!”
To An Yizhu, it made no difference. If Yu Guqiu said so, then it must be true.
She nodded. “Yes, I’m marrying her.”
