Has The Live-in Alpha Stepped Up - Chapter 5
5: The Destined One
At this moment, Yu Guqiu was growing more and more satisfied with An Yizhu.
Never mind who exactly had sent her—at the very least, when it came to pissing off these relatives, she had performed exceptionally well, not missing a single beat.
An Yizhu’s matter-of-fact declaration that she would marry Yu Guqiu had left the relatives utterly dumbfounded.
Though the Yu family was a prominent one, there had been precedents—like Yu Guqiu’s father marrying into the family during its heyday.
But now, the Yu family was in decline.
Even if a starved camel was still bigger than a horse, why was this Alpha so eager to marry into the family? And she even looked proud of it?
Was it for money?
In Jiangcheng, many families sought to take in sons-in-law, especially Alphas, to improve their bloodlines.
Those were usually equal marriages, with the Alpha still receiving substantial benefits. Some families, in their pursuit of cultivating the next generation, would spare no expense in grooming the Alpha, giving them the best packaging.
In contrast, the Yu family was currently strapped for cash. Marrying into the Yu family wouldn’t be nearly as glamorous.
Was it for lust?
Yu Guqiu was indeed one of Jiangcheng’s top beauties, but could someone really be that shallow?
The relatives watched An Yizhu’s infatuated grin.
Tch.
This woman really was that shallow…
They never expected that Yu Guqiu, who had been backed into a corner, would break the deadlock at such a critical moment—just by relying on her looks.
Even Yu Feng covered his face in disbelief.
The Meng family had wanted to arrange a marriage for Yu Guqiu to control her and slowly devour the Yu family’s assets. He had opposed that.
But if Yu Guqiu planned to free herself from everyone’s control by having an Alpha marry into the family, he would also oppose it!
Now, Yu Feng had to assert his authority as the elder: “Xiao Qiu, no matter what, you should at least discuss this with your grandmother, shouldn’t you?”
Even Meng Jiayang found himself on the same side as Yu Feng. He said to Yu Guqiu, “Yes, Xiao Qiu. Your father is still abroad. This matter shouldn’t be rushed.”
But Yu Guqiu just smiled lightly. “I don’t plan to hide it from Grandma or Dad. I’ll speak to Grandma myself. As for Dad, he’s busy and hard to reach right now. Telling him after we get the marriage certificate is fine too. Besides, I might only ever meet one Yizhu who doesn’t trigger my allergies. How could Grandma and Dad possibly object?”
Her words were so brazen that even Aunt Meng Jiayang couldn’t help interjecting, “Xiao Qiu, that’s not how you should talk! Such an important matter—how can you not even tell your father? This is outrageous!”
Fourth Aunt Meng Jiazhao, however, tugged at Meng Jiayang’s sleeve from behind and said softly, “Eldest Sister, Xiao Qiu needs to rest now. Shouldn’t we leave first and let her recover?”
The three sisters exchanged glances, as if suddenly realizing something. After a few perfunctory words like “rest well” and “don’t overexert yourself,” they hurriedly left.
Yu Guqiu was pleased with this outcome—she had finally gotten rid of those annoying people.
Then, she turned her gaze to Yu Feng.
When there were more people around, it was fine. But now, facing Yu Guqiu directly, Yu Feng felt a twinge of fear.
He cleared his throat. “Alright, Xiao Qiu, your uncle has some matters to attend to and won’t disturb your rest anymore. As for your grandmother, you know what to do. And regarding the factory’s funding… I’ll think of something first.”
He was still pretending to be the reliable elder.
Once everyone had left, Aunt Yu Liu sighed and said with emotion, “Xiao Qiu, your aunt respects your choice.”
She glanced at An Yizhu.
Though this girl was a stranger, her intuition told her that she was more reliable than Yu Guqiu’s father.
Yu Guqiu wasn’t like her mother—she wasn’t the type to lose her head over love.
After years of weighing pros and cons, the answer before her now must be her best option.
“I believe you’ve thought this through carefully. Your aunt just hopes you’ll be happy. The company doesn’t matter. Money doesn’t matter.” Yu Liu sighed again. “But if the company really needs funds, you can still consider my earlier suggestion.”
An Yizhu listened quietly. Though she didn’t know the specifics of their conversation, this aunt seemed much friendlier than the other elders.
“I understand, Aunt. I’ll consider it,” Yu Guqiu replied before gently dismissing her. “Aunt Fang, please see Aunt Liu home.”
Aunt Fang hesitated, unable to agree immediately. She said worriedly, “Xiao Qiu, if I leave, there’ll be no one here to take care of you.”
Yu Guqiu smiled.
In a hospital, with so many doctors and nurses around, did she really need extra care? She had just caught a chill from the rain yesterday—it wasn’t like she’d lost the ability to move.
But Yu Guqiu could guess Aunt Fang’s concerns. After all, yesterday, Yu Feng had tricked Aunt Fang into leaving, so she hadn’t been waiting in the parking lot when Yu Guqiu needed her.
By the time Aunt Fang noticed the distress signal and rushed back, all she saw was Yu Guqiu lying in a pile of garbage—
And a strange woman lying beside her, their clothes in disarray.
And that woman was an Alpha!
The scene had left Aunt Fang deeply shaken, filled with guilt and trauma.
At the time, Aunt Fang had cried, “I promised Weiwei I’d take good care of you. I’m so useless!”
Though Yu Guqiu had still been weak, her mind had already cleared, and she calmly said, “Aunt Fang, don’t cry. I’m fine. Take both of us to the hospital. I plan to marry her.”
Aunt Fang’s tears had frozen in shock. It had taken her a whole night to barely accept the idea of marriage. But she hadn’t expected the effect to be this good just now.
This girl really had something to her.
Yu Guqiu confirmed to Aunt Fang, “Lin Meng will be here soon.”
Only then did Aunt Fang nod and reply professionally, “Understood, President Yu.”
With Aunt Fang and Yu Liu gone, the hospital room was left with just two people: an awkward, unfamiliar, yet already marked, engaged, soon-to-be-married Alpha and Omega.
An Yizhu’s eyes darted around the room, observing the surroundings to distract herself.
The hospital rooms of the rich are really something else. After years of hospital stays, she had never seen one so luxuriously decorated.
Yu Guqiu broke the silence. “How much longer are you planning to hold my hand?”
“Ah, sorry.” An Yizhu politely let go but couldn’t help smiling.
She hadn’t realized that zoning out could literally freeze one’s actions—nor had she expected to hear such a cliché novel line in real life.
Gurgle—
The sound from An Yizhu’s stomach drowned out her laughter.
She quickly clutched her belly.
Compared to holding a pretty sister’s hand for too long, having her stomach growl loudly in front of said sister was far more embarrassing.
The sound was so loud that Yu Guqiu couldn’t pretend not to hear it.
She handed An Yizhu a lunchbox from the bedside table. “It’s untouched.”
An Yizhu glanced at the fish soup Yu Guqiu had stirred for ages without drinking—clearly, she wasn’t hungry.
So An Yizhu accepted the lunchbox without ceremony. “Thanks! Then I won’t hold back!”
She looked around for a place to sit.
Compared to the sofa, she preferred the sunlit bay window.
Clutching the lunchbox, she plopped down on the windowsill.
Yu Guqiu didn’t stop her. Instead, she picked up her phone to deal with unread messages.
But none of the messages registered in her mind. Instead, she found herself pondering An Yizhu’s existence.
Was this plan of hers really feasible?
In this world, only a small percentage of people differentiated into Alphas and Omegas.
Differentiation granted them many advantages—whether in physical prowess or intellect—enough to make them stand out among ordinary humans and leave their mark on history.
Omegas, capable of bearing exceptional offspring, even became “resources” fought over by powerful families.
This was something Yu Guqiu had realized early on, ever since she differentiated into a top-tier Omega.
In the month following her differentiation, the Yu family’s reception room was never empty.
Before that, she hadn’t even known there were so many families “on par” with theirs.
But she didn’t care.
She didn’t like any Alphas—or rather, she couldn’t like any Alpha, nor did she intend to.
She despised their arrogance, domineering attitudes, and sheer unreasonableness.
After her differentiation stabilized, medical tests revealed that her body was allergic to Alpha pheromones. Her own pheromones also had a backlash effect on most Alphas.
A one-in-a-million occurrence—and even rarer in a top-tier Omega with a highly sensitive constitution.
At the time, the doctor had comforted her, saying that while the condition was rare, there was still a chance she might meet an Alpha who didn’t trigger her allergies.
He had also vaguely suggested a second option: You could also marry an ordinary Beta male.
Yu Guqiu had scoffed.
Repeating her mother’s tragedy?
She might hate Alphas, but she would never choose a Beta.
Only her grandmother had been optimistic, smiling as she said, “The chances of meeting your true love are also slim. This could be a kind of fate.”
Her grandmother’s marriage had been happy, so she was a firm believer in “true love.”
Otherwise, back then, she wouldn’t have hesitated for just two days before agreeing to her mother’s impulsive decision to marry her father after hearing, “We’re truly in love.”
But Yu Guqiu only wanted to ask—Would she really meet one?
Not “true love,” but an Alpha she wasn’t allergic to?
Now, the answer was yes—she had met one.
Yu Guqiu couldn’t help recalling yesterday’s events.
Though she had never fantasized about such a “fated moment,” no one could have predicted that her “destined one” would appear in such a way.
Since childhood, Yu Guqiu had only wanted to inherit the Yu Group, expand and strengthen it, and earn her grandmother’s approval through hard work, step by step, while keeping her relatives in check.
But as she grew older, the issue of marriage was inevitably raised—especially after her grandmother fell ill and showed no signs of recovery despite treatment.
Many things had happened during this time.
For example, several companies long suppressed by the Yu Group had suddenly joined forces to strike back.
For example, some within the Yu Group had begun to waver in their loyalty.
Compared to those who schemed to hollow out the Yu Group while her grandmother was ill, Yu Feng was just a selfish, stupid fool with crude methods.
And then there were those meddlesome relatives earlier, who didn’t care about solving problems—only about pushing her into a marriage alliance. Pathetic.
Yu Guqiu’s gaze returned to An Yizhu.
At the moment, An Yizhu was eating without a care in the world.
Sitting on the windowsill, she gazed outside, swinging her legs, swaying her head whenever she took a particularly delicious bite.
The sunlight bathed her, making her seem especially warm and soft—like someone you’d want to pinch.
Beep beep beep—
The monitor’s alarm sounded again, signaling abnormal data.
[?!]
An Yizhu was startled by the noise and set down her lunchbox. “What’s wrong? Should I call a doctor?”
Yu Guqiu quickly averted her eyes, removing the irrelevant monitor from her wrist and letting the data flatline. She brushed it off. “It’s fine. Just angry.”
Seeing that Yu Guqiu didn’t seem to be in any real danger, An Yizhu picked up her lunchbox again, muttering, “Those relatives really are infuriating.”
Yu Guqiu exhaled.
Pheromones really do mess with your mind!
So what if the sunlight was warm? Yesterday had been just as sunny—yet in the blink of an eye, it had turned into a downpour.
“The weather’s so nice after the rain.” An Yizhu suddenly said, looking out the window.
Yu Guqiu turned to her, momentarily dazed. “What did you say?”
An Yizhu didn’t feel like repeating herself. Instead, she held up her empty lunchbox as if showing off her appetite. “Look! I finished it. The food you gave me was delicious.”
It was just a standard hospital meal.
Yu Guqiu stared at An Yizhu’s smile for a moment before looking away, cutting off her meaningless chatter. “Now, we need to talk business.”
