Has The Live-in Alpha Stepped Up - Chapter 8
8: Quite the Sharp Tongue
After returning to her room, An Yizhu connected to the hospital’s WiFi and took the opportunity to explore this ABO world through the internet.
The sheer volume of information overwhelmed her, and she ended up falling asleep.
When she opened her eyes again, the light outside had dimmed, and night had just begun to fall.
Gurgle—
An Yizhu rubbed her stomach, slightly embarrassed. Who knew her body had an internal alarm clock for hunger?
She wondered if Yu Guqiu had finished her conference call. Would it count as eavesdropping if she listened by the door now?
Tiptoeing closer, she heard voices.
A man was speaking to Yu Guqiu: “President Yu, I’ve laid out all my terms. Are you really not going to reconsider me? I can bring more benefits to the Yu family, and I don’t mind your condition.”
His voice wasn’t unpleasant, but the hint of threat in his tone was grating.
Mind her condition?!
How dare someone like him talk about minding Yu Guqiu’s condition—who did he think he was?!
An Yizhu fumed silently.
Yu Guqiu’s voice remained calm. “Didn’t Yu Feng tell you? I’m already preparing to marry my Alpha.”
A simple, straightforward rejection.
[Her Alpha!]
[That’s me!]
An Yizhu gloated inwardly.
Yu Guqiu must have sensed she was behind the door—this was her calling for help!
Was she about to play the hero again?
But this morning, she’d only faced some relatives. Now, she was up against a suitor.
An Yizhu looked down at herself. Not only was she wearing a shabby hospital gown, but it was also wrinkled. She hardly looked the part of a dashing savior swooping in to rescue the heroine like in those TV dramas.
So…
An Yizhu had a bold idea.
Just thinking about what she was about to do made her want to laugh.
After steadying herself for a few seconds behind the door, she pushed it open and stepped out.
Aunt Fang, who was standing guard beside Yu Guqiu, widened her eyes in shock at the sight of the “future Madam Yu” sauntering out so casually.
This is highly improper! They’re in the middle of discussing business!
Miss Yu is definitely going to lose her temper!
Aunt Fang panicked, unsure how to handle the situation.
Oblivious, An Yizhu ignored the guest entirely, walked straight to Yu Guqiu’s bedside, and plopped down on the chair. She leaned her head against the bed and gazed at Yu Guqiu. “Sis~ Aren’t you done yet? I’m starving!”
Yu Guqiu looked at An Yizhu’s lazy, kitten-like demeanor and smiled faintly.
The man by the bed caught that fleeting glimpse of gentleness and was utterly stunned.
Yu Guqiu reached for an apple on the nightstand and handed it to An Yizhu. “There’s still some business to take care of. Have this to tide you over.”
With Yu Guqiu’s response, An Yizhu’s last shred of nervousness vanished.
Plan successful!
This was An Yizhu’s strategy. Who said the hero had to be some domineering CEO? She clearly wasn’t one, but Yu Guqiu was.
So why not take a different approach and play the adorable, clingy Alpha instead?
Every aloof monarch needed a charming distraction by their side, right?
“I don’t want an apple. I want something delicious, like what you gave me at noon.” An Yizhu said, shaking her head at Yu Guqiu.
Aunt Fang blinked rapidly.
This isn’t right.
Her expectations were completely off. The Yu Guqiu she knew seemed to have vanished overnight.
An Yizhu’s words were even stranger.
What exquisite delicacy did you eat at noon that Miss Yu personally prepared for you? Why are you acting like this?
That was just the standard hospital meal I brought over!
Yu Guqiu patted An Yizhu’s head soothingly. “We’ll eat something delicious once our guest leaves.”
Emboldened by the favor, An Yizhu turned to the “guest” without hesitation. “When are you leaving?”
The “guest” was taken aback. “Are you kicking me out?”
“Should we invite you to stay for dinner instead?” An Yizhu shot back, unfazed.
“Do you know who my father is?” The “guest” was deeply offended—no one had ever treated him this way.
“Didn’t your mom tell you? Do you need to ask strangers who your dad is?” An Yizhu fired back.
The room fell silent for three seconds.
Everyone was stunned, struggling to process the retort.
The “guest” gaped, unable to believe what he’d just heard. When it finally sank in, he stormed toward An Yizhu. “You ill-mannered brat! You’re the one who was raised without a father!”
As he approached, a surge of adrenaline rushed through An Yizhu. She stood up.
Though the “guest” was around 180 cm in dress shoes, An Yizhu, having undergone post-differentiation growth, wasn’t much shorter even in hospital slippers. Her presence was just as intimidating.
The fluffy puppy from moments ago had transformed into a fierce guard dog.
Newly differentiated Alphas had this advantage—even with weak pheromones, they could be recklessly bold, especially with their Omega nearby.
The “guest,” also an Alpha, immediately felt the overwhelming pressure of An Yizhu’s pheromones and faltered.
What level is this Alpha? Her pheromones are so oppressive!
He tugged at his tie and took a step back. “Are you a dog? Biting anyone who comes near?”
Yu Guqiu’s expression darkened.
Though she’d also thought An Yizhu resembled a puppy earlier, hearing it from the “guest” irritated her.
An Yizhu, however, grinned. “Ever heard this saying? Throw a rock into a pack of dogs, and the one that barks the loudest is the one that got hit.”
The “guest” was the dog—and the one who’d been hit.
“Fine! I’ll remember you.” The “guest” had been struck hard by that verbal rock. His throat felt scratchy under the pressure of An Yizhu’s pheromones, and he scratched it uncomfortably before hurrying out with a weak threat.
An Yizhu was almost disappointed.
That’s it? We won?
Admittedly, Yu Guqiu’s suitors were quite refined—they couldn’t even curse properly and fled after just a few words.
Confused, An Yizhu asked, “So who was that guy?”
Yu Guqiu shook her head. “No one important.”
An Yizhu pressed further. “Then who’s his dad?”
Yu Guqiu recalled the earlier exchange and smirked almost imperceptibly. “His father, however, is someone notable—Tao Xingbang, the head of Jiangcheng’s largest investment firm.”
An Yizhu’s eyes widened in realization. The Tao family had appeared in the novel as the “money bags” who stayed mostly off-screen. Given his background, the “guest’s” attitude wasn’t surprising.
But she couldn’t resist gossiping in a hushed tone. “I could tell he was trying to flaunt his dad earlier, but just to be sure—is he a secret love child or something? Why did he get so mad over a few words?”
Pfft. Aunt Fang burst out laughing behind them.
An Yizhu turned to see Aunt Fang covering her mouth sheepishly.
As a professional driver, Aunt Fang had always maintained perfect composure no matter what she overheard. Today, however, her career faced an unexpected setback.
When An Yizhu looked back at Yu Guqiu, she caught the tail end of her smile before Yu Guqiu schooled her expression.
“I didn’t expect you to have such a sharp tongue.” Yu Guqiu remarked.
An Yizhu wasn’t the least bit ashamed—in fact, she was proud. “Of course! I may not have many skills, but my mouth is top-notch.”
Yu Guqiu’s gaze flicked to An Yizhu’s mouth, where her little canine teeth were on full display.
Sharp indeed.
She averted her eyes, pretending to focus on her laptop. “Keep it up, then.”
“Roger that, boss!” An Yizhu knew her place.
Yu Guqiu liked the title—so much so that she didn’t hide her amusement as she told Aunt Fang, “Serve her dinner. Our ‘outstanding employee’ shouldn’t go hungry.”
Aunt Fang finally responded. “Of course. The food is right outside. I’ll fetch it.”
“Dinner time!” An Yizhu cheered. “Where outside? Aunt Fang, I can get it myself!”
The evening meal was a different variation of the lunch set, but this time, there were two servings of fish soup.
“Thank you, Aunt Fang!! It smells amazing!” An Yizhu accepted the soup and took a big gulp while it was still hot.
Aunt Fang couldn’t help but smile fondly at the girl’s ravenous enthusiasm.
Yu Guqiu watched as An Yizhu downed the soup, then picked up her own spoon and took a small sip.
By the time An Yizhu set down her bowl and opened the meal box, Yu Guqiu had only just finished half her spoonful.
“These chicken wings are delicious! Way better than the drumsticks at lunch.” An Yizhu remarked, recommending them to Yu Guqiu.
Yu Guqiu wasn’t particularly interested in the hospital food, but since it didn’t matter what she ate, she might as well follow An Yizhu’s suggestion.
She picked up a chicken wing and took a delicate bite.
An Yizhu, meanwhile, popped the entire wing into her mouth, wiggled it around, and pulled out a clean bone.
Yu Guqiu stared in amazement. Does her mouth have a built-in deboner?
Before she knew it, she’d eaten half her own wing.
An Yizhu moved on to the cabbage, crunching loudly with each bite.
Yu Guqiu followed suit, chewing slowly on a piece.
Aunt Fang stood quietly by, saying nothing but radiating satisfaction.
Even when Yu Guqiu wasn’t unwell, she rarely ate much.
As both an employee and a close friend of Yu Guqiu’s mother, Aunt Fang was practically family. Seeing Yu Guqiu willingly try every dish without complaint filled her with joy.
If An Yizhu could make Yu Guqiu eat properly, then Aunt Fang fully approved of her as the future Madam Yu!
