Chapter 31: Bath (No More Bathing, Please Let me Off)
When Chu Zhiqin and Leng Junzhu left Linmen Street, the sun was just setting. The afterglow of the sunset struggled to release its last brilliance, enveloping them. Passersby hurried along, rushing home before the sun completely set.
Home.
Chu Zhiqin looked at her and Leng Junzhu’s clasped hands, thinking that she too was going home with her senior sister.
Even though that home was, at best, a temporary dwelling for them, and how long they would stay was unknown, Chu Zhiqin wanted to call it home, Chu Zhiqin and Leng Junzhu’s home.
“Why did you talk so much with that woman today? A single sword thrust would have solved everything,” Leng Junzhu said, playing with the little dog clay figurine the shop owner had given her earlier when they bought things on Linmen Street. It was yellowish, with a fat head and big ears, looking quite ugly.
Chu Zhiqin replied, “They were just harmless words; there’s no need to fuss. Besides, you and I need to keep a low profile now and absolutely must not cause any more trouble.”
Leng Junzhu really wanted to roll her eyes at her but was afraid of damaging her image. In the end, she just snorted and ignored her.
…
Returning to the small courtyard gate, the sun had completely set. A few scattered stars appeared in the sky, and the moon was hidden behind a cloud, making everything misty.
The surrounding houses were lit with warm orange lights, and the faint light illuminated the gate of the small courtyard they had just rented that afternoon.
Pushing open the courtyard gate, the weeds in the yard had been cleared, revealing the laid bluestone slabs underneath. The well seemed to have been tidied up as well; the well cover had been replaced with a new wooden board, and the sprouting kindling pile was replaced with new wood.
It was evident that Madam Li was indeed as Grandma Lin had said: she was diligent and did things properly. She clearly knew that Chu Zhiqin’s identity was questionable, yet she still tidied up the courtyard as agreed, without the slightest sloppiness.
“It looks decent after being cleaned up.” The faint light didn’t affect the two cultivators much. Leng Junzhu scanned her future territory and reluctantly accepted it.
“Watch your step.” Chu Zhiqin was worried that Leng Junzhu, who had turned into a little short-legged child, might trip over the bluestone slabs in the courtyard, so she instinctively reminded the looking-around Leng Junzhu.
Leng Junzhu ignored her, instead urging her to hurry. Chu Zhiqin had no choice but to follow Leng Junzhu’s steps, quickly walking to the door of the house and opening it.
The windows inside the house were all open for ventilation. Chu Zhiqin lit the oil lamp, placed the items bought earlier that evening on the ground, and took out pastries and sweets, putting them on the table. “You eat something to fill your stomach first. I’ll go tidy up where we’ll sleep tonight.”
An adult Leng Junzhu wouldn’t even contend for chores, let alone the current Little Junzhu, who was only three heads tall. Chu Zhiqin even had to carry her to sit on the soft couch, and thoughtfully placed a silk cloth underneath her bottom to prevent staining Leng Junzhu’s clothes.
Leng Junzhu ate the pastries bought from Guanchun Garden and watched Chu Zhiqin clean thoroughly, asking in confusion, “Why don’t you just use magic for this little work? Why do it yourself?”
Chu Zhiqin: “…I don’t know how.”
Leng Junzhu: “…”
…
Fortunately, Chu Zhiqin was quick and efficient, quickly tidying up the bedroom, laying out the sheets and bedding. The bathtub was also scrubbed clean; she knew that with Leng Junzhu’s current temperament, she would surely want to bathe every single day.
“Do you want to bathe?” Chu Zhiqin wiped away the pastry crumbs from Leng Junzhu’s mouth and put away the remaining uneaten pastries on the table.
“Mm,” Leng Junzhu replied.
Chu Zhiqin, having just finished one task, resigned herself to boiling and pouring water again, so that the little master could bathe before deep night.
…
A misty vapor drifted in the air, and the sound of rippling water came from behind the screen. The restored Leng Junzhu soaked in the water, leaning softly against the edge of the tub, looking languid.
“Come here,” her voice was soft and enchanting, with a hint of irresistible command.
Chu Zhiqin met her gaze. The mist blurred Leng Junzhu’s expression, making it impossible to discern her thoughts. Chu Zhiqin looked through the mist into those golden snake pupils.
Cold eyes, filled with desire and the hunger for prey.
Under the gaze of those eyes, Chu Zhiqin took one step, two steps, three steps—until she stood in front of the bathtub.
Her cumbersome clothes were unfastened by a distinctly jointed hand and slid to the floor.
She stepped into the bathtub, sitting opposite Leng Junzhu.
The water surface rippled. Soaking in the pleasantly warm water, Chu Zhiqin’s shoulders, tired from a day’s work, gradually relaxed. She was slowly getting used to sharing a bathtub with Leng Junzhu now.
—Just kidding.
That thing came again.
It was cold, yet every inch of skin it touched felt like it was seared by a fiery tongue. Chu Zhiqin was startled by its scalding touch, wanting to escape but having nowhere to go.
…
Who would have thought that beneath the surface of the water, someone was wickedly and wantonly stirring a pool of spring water?
Chu Zhiqin huddled in the corner of the bathtub, with nowhere to escape. She was utterly defeated by the snake tail’s offensive, completely unable to resist.
The once lofty Sword Immortal of Kyushu was now willingly suppressed in this humble place by a demon, despised by all, to share in the “cloud and rain” (sexual intimacy).
Leng Junzhu thought maliciously, it would be great to let those righteous sects see what a licentious and shameless woman their good Sword Immortal was.
No.
No.
Leng Junzhu submerged herself in the water, then resurfaced from the water at Chu Zhiqin’s chest.
Her dark hair lay disheveled on her pale face, her lips a seductive red, her eyes golden snake pupils. Like a sea siren, she stroked Chu Zhiqin’s flushed face.
Even as they were consumed by endless desire, those eyes, which Leng Junzhu both loved and hated, remained clear. Only the tears that she hadn’t had time to wipe from the corners of her eyes and her trembling, constantly gasping body indicated that Chu Zhiqin was experiencing something intensely pleasurable.
A slender serpent tongue licked Chu Zhiqin’s cheek, and Leng Junzhu let out a satisfied sigh:
—If anyone were to see this, I would gouge out their eyes, crush them, and feed them to the dogs.
…
Tiny kisses fell on Chu Zhiqin’s wet brows. Leng Junzhu savored the tears that hadn’t yet fallen, tasting their saltiness as she kissed Chu Zhiqin’s lips.
Instantly, it became scorching hot.
Saliva that had no time to be swallowed dripped from the corners of their mouths. Cold lips kissed and bit Chu Zhiqin, but it wasn’t enough, far from satisfying the bottomless desire in Leng Junzhu’s heart.
She pressed down, spreading the pleasure throughout their bodies. Muffled, low moans and quiet sobs replaced the sound of water rippling.
“Junior Sister…” In the midst of this pleasure, Leng Junzhu couldn’t tell if that “Junior Sister” was her own voice, or if it was the extra memory in her mind playing tricks.
She was lost in the play she had set, unable to break free, unable to let go.
“Senior Sister…” The person in her arms looked up at her, her face filled with reliance and longing for “Senior Sister.”
Senior Sister.
The pleasure throughout her body instantly receded like a tide. The hatred that had been suppressed in her heart for days suddenly erupted, engulfing her heart and spreading throughout her entire body.
Leng Junzhu’s hatred for Chu Zhiqin and “Senior Sister” reached its peak at this moment.
“What’s wrong?”
The moment Chu Zhiqin noticed Leng Junzhu’s emotional change, she asked worriedly. The next second, a cold, damp hand covered her eyes.
“Nothing.”
Cold kisses landed on her ear, soothing her uneasy emotions.
In the place Chu Zhiqin couldn’t see, hatred surged in the eyes that kissed her.
Leng Junzhu remembered Mo Qianxue’s warning.
She had dismissed it then, but now it seemed she was too caught up in the situation to see herself clearly.
“Junior Sister, the night is still long, don’t rush—”
The snake began to feed.
…
A night of debauchery.
The next morning, years of habit made Chu Zhiqin wake up naturally even when she was exhausted.
She got up, her body sore and weak. After she fell asleep last night, Leng Junzhu had changed her inner clothes, so she wouldn’t wake up naked.
Leng Junzhu was still sleeping on the pillow. It seemed that last night had exhausted the demonic energy she had accumulated in her body, and now she couldn’t maintain her child-like appearance.
Chu Zhiqin got dressed very lightly. Just then, a knock came from outside the courtyard and Grandma Lin’s loud voice: “Has Mu yatou (little wooden girl) woken up yet? I brought the dog.”
Chu Zhiqin was worried about waking Leng Junzhu and also afraid that Grandma Lin would notice her change in appearance, so she quickly and softly ran out to open the door: “Coming, Grandma, thank you for coming so early.”
Opening the door, Grandma Lin stood at the entrance, holding a yellowish, plump puppy, with a basket of fresh vegetables and a few eggs at her feet.
Grandma Lin laughed: “What’s early about this? The sun’s almost up. I brought you the dog. Don’t let its size fool you; the old dog has already been trained. It won’t eat things from outside carelessly, let alone touch food on the table.”
The puppy cooperatively barked “Woof,” sticking out its tongue, its eyes like watery grapes looking at her, adorable beyond words, making one feel joyful.
“Oh my, what a cute puppy! My sister will surely love it very much. Thank you, Grandma. It’s still early, Grandma, why don’t you come in and sit for a while?”
Grandma Lin waved her hand and refused, “No, no, I still have business to do. Take this dog and this basket of vegetables. Consider it a housewarming gift. If you have any problems in the future, just find me where I sell vegetables.”
Chu Zhiqin didn’t decline and accepted them generously: “Since that’s the case, I’ll accept them then.”
Grandma Lin was pleased. She smiled, “Good girl, Grandma likes honest people like you who accept gifts readily. I’m leaving now.”
Chu Zhiqin said, “Goodbye, Grandma.”
Watching Grandma Lin leave, Chu Zhiqin felt a headache coming on from the clueless little creature in her arms.
She had never raised a dog and didn’t know if she could keep it alive. Besides, she didn’t know how long they would stay in Qihe Town, nor what to do with this dog then…
She should have known better than to follow Grandma Lin’s suggestion and ask for a dog to guard the house.
Suddenly, a warm licking sensation came from her fingertips. Chu Zhiqin looked down; it turned out the puppy was quite bored, and perhaps hungry, happily licking Chu Zhiqin’s hand. When it saw Chu Zhiqin looking at it, the puppy bared its teeth at her, whimpering happily.
Chu Zhiqin’s heart instantly softened.
Oh well, it was just one more mouth to feed. She would raise the little one for as long as it lived!
“You must be good and obedient. Pleasing me is useless; remember to please the person in the house, understand?” Chu Zhiqin tried to scratch the puppy’s chin. The moderate pressure of her strokes made the puppy wag its tail comfortably, letting out soft whines.
Chu Zhiqin laughed: “This little one is so good at acting spoiled.”
After playing with the puppy for a while, Chu Zhiqin picked up the basket and walked to the kitchen to put away the vegetables Grandma Lin had given them.
When she returned to the room with the puppy, she found that Leng Junzhu had not only gotten up and changed her clothes but had also reverted to her child form.
Today she was wearing a light white and pink袄裙 (padded jacket and skirt), her soft hair unbound, and her round face still carried the drowsiness of just waking up. When she saw Chu Zhiqin enter, she yawned lazily.
Wait a minute…? What was that thing Chu Zhiqin was holding?
Leng Junzhu’s head snapped back. If she wasn’t mistaken, the thing in Chu Zhiqin’s arms was identical to the clay figurine the shop owner gave them yesterday, with one difference: the clay figurine was inanimate, and the one in Chu Zhiqin’s arms was alive.
Alive…!?
Under Leng Junzhu’s horrified gaze, the puppy happily barked “Woof.”
