He is not my Alpha! - Chapter 10
The next morning, Ji Yifei returned to school. Driven by his morning temper, he silently cursed himself for going home in the first place.
When he sat down at his desk, he glanced at the empty desk and seat beside him. Without hesitation, he moved the massive stack of books that had been piled next to him onto the other desk.
He looked down at his suddenly “spacious” desk, and his mood brightened slightly. He picked up his pen and the test paper on his desk and started working on the problems.
Unfortunately, he hadn’t finished many problems before the people next to him swarmed over. The teacher had been there earlier, but as soon as the bell for class dismissal rang, marking the end of the morning study session, people rushed out and surrounded Ji Yifei, chattering about yesterday’s events.
“If you guys want to discuss Shang Yan’s pheromones, why are you coming to me…?” Ji Yifei asked.
“You don’t get it, Brother Ji! We feel safe chatting here with you!” a person next to him interjected.
Ji Yifei looked at the group of people around him and asked, “Where’s the safety? Do I come with a protective barrier or make you invisible?”
Li Jiang next to him chuckled twice and said, “You’re good at studying! When the teacher walks by, they definitely won’t bother us if we’re chatting next to you, alright? Plus, Brother Shang isn’t here now. If he were, we’d definitely be over by his side.” The group echoed their agreement.
“And recently, that ‘Dog Wang’ has been acting crazy. He won’t even let us talk, making it seem like we in the Honors class have no human rights. So what if we’re in the Honors class? We all have a mouth, why shouldn’t we be allowed to talk?” Zhou Tian chimed in, not forgetting to open a bag of bread in the middle of his sentence. Soon, everyone’s attention was drawn to the bread.
Xue Xi affirmed with a firm “Mm,” and, before people could react, reached his hand into the bag and tore off a piece.
Everyone used the same method. By the time Zhou Tian reacted, only the bottom crumbs of the bread remained…
The “bread war” began beside him. Ji Yifei sighed, his mind involuntarily wondering what Shang Yan was doing right now…
Shang Yan was comparatively more relaxed at home. Since there was no one around, he returned to his “solitary confinement room,” played video games, and slept. When he was hungry, he ordered takeout. At most, he read a book. Boredom led him to nearly finish all the critical thinking problems in a math workbook.
But perhaps because he wasn’t at school, he wasn’t cross-examined by his classmates face-to-face. Idly scrolling through the school forum, he found a lot of posts saying that his and Ji Yifei’s pheromones were a great match, shipping the two of them as a couple. Initially, seeing these posts had given him a deep sense of satisfaction, but…
Shang Yan couldn’t be happy. He knew Ji Yifei didn’t have feelings for him. Their relationship was currently so awkward, the Mark was unclear, and Ji Yifei didn’t harbor those kinds of thoughts toward him.
This was probably causing problems in Ji Yifei’s life… He was happy to see the posts, but Shang Yan wasn’t the type of person to fulfill his own small desires without considering others’ feelings. More than his own personal feelings, he cared about Ji Yifei’s feelings.
Ji Yifei hated trouble so much; seeing those posts would surely make him unhappy, and since he wasn’t at school, many people must be questioning him.
He picked up his phone, found a contact, and sent a message.
Shang Three-Year-Old: Do me a favor and delete these few posts. Shang Three-Year-Old: I’ll treat you to a meal when I get back.
Shang Yan’s Heat period was truly long. He practically broke his Subway Surfers record countless times and even walked into the instrument room, which he hadn’t touched in years, to play instruments. When he felt bored again, he started reading his diaries.
Starting from the third grade of primary school, reading all the way up to the second year of high school—there was certainly plenty to read. After reading for a while, he felt his emotions shift, and tears started to stream down again.
“Damn it, why is the Heat period so sensitive…” Shang Yan cursed while wiping his tears.
He was sitting on the carpet in his bedroom, several diaries scattered around him. The one he held was a black leather-bound diary, the contents of which he rarely looked at—it covered his junior high and first year of high school.
That diary entry was like a tiny needle pricking his heart. His already sensitive emotions were infinitely amplified. Tears flowed down his cheeks without him even realizing it.
Why was he acting like he had weeping incontinence…
Ji Yifei, encountering a difficult problem, instinctively slapped the desk next to him, only to realize he looked like an idiot high-fiving the air.
Shang Yan had been gone for three days already… Should he go see him this weekend? Would he be very uncomfortable? Would he be feeling down? Alphas in Heat seem to be in a lot of distress…
He suddenly regretted secretly doing math problems during his physiology class.
He reluctantly opened his browser, typed in, “What is an Alpha’s Heat period like?”
“An Alpha’s Heat period is characterized by extreme possessiveness. The colder they normally appear, the scarier they become during Heat! Sometimes, if the emotions are too low, they will smash things, and in severe cases, there can be self-harm or other dangerous behaviors.”
“It’s a struggle between rationality and physiology. The entire brain feels black and white. The whole body is uncomfortable. They intensely want to hug an Omega, and even their back teeth feel itchy.”
…
Ji Yifei’s face grew worse as he read. When he saw the part about potential suicide, he began to get scared.
“Alphas who are usually not very talkative will have heightened emotions during their Heat period. They may experience multiple emotional breakdowns, becoming uncontrollable, crying loudly, or even attempting suicide.”
“Shang Yan usually doesn’t talk much. Could he be…” A surge of worry spread through his heart.
He imagined Shang Yan sitting alone on the floor, wiping away tears. Holy crap… that sounds incredibly painful.
He saw an answer on the search result that mentioned if an Omega who has a bond with the Alpha releases pheromones near the Alpha, it can sometimes alleviate the Heat. Objectively, he was already Shang Yan’s “Permanently Marked” Omega. If he were by his side, Shang Yan would definitely feel much better.
But then, the image of another answer he had just read popped into his mind, which said that during the Alpha’s Heat, seeing an Omega made them want to bite the back of their neck, and they might even…”
Ji Yifei grew more and more scared, shaking his head involuntarily.
—What if Shang Yan loses control during the Heat and does something to him… The image flashed through his mind again, and his face turned even paler.
But then he thought of Shang Yan’s suffering expression. Because of the Mark, Shang Yan would definitely crave his pheromones even more… Maybe… he should reconsider?
He searched online and felt a sense of obligation to be responsible for Shang Yan’s Heat. The search results said that if a Marked Alpha does not receive comfort from their Omega during the Heat, the situation will severely worsen. The Mark was his mistake to begin with. Ji Yifei did not want his mistake to affect and deepen Shang Yan’s suffering.
So, in the afternoon, Ji [Someone] used the excuse of a stomachache to ask for leave and went to the home of [Someone] Yan, who was currently in Heat. He went to a nearby store and bought a pheromone extraction tool. He planned it well: he would deliver the bottle of extracted pheromones under the pretext of bringing Shang Yan “homework,” which would at least make him feel better.
He reached up and touched his scent gland, where a small needle mark still remained.
But he also prepared other things. He glanced at his backpack: peppermint candies, nunchucks, pepper spray…
Undeniably, facing an Alpha in Heat, he was still very afraid.
He remembered that Shang Yan’s pheromone rank was very high, so the Heat period for such an Alpha would definitely be severe.
Okay, I’ll go in, drop off my pheromones, and come right out! I absolutely will not stay longer!
After preparing himself, Ji Yifei got out of the taxi and looked at the villa area in front of him, feeling a slight pang of sadness.
Because if he remembered correctly, his biological father’s hospital was right next door.
Sure enough, Ji Yifei turned his head and saw his affectionate little aunt.
His little aunt was leaving the hospital in casual clothes, seemingly heading towards the neighborhood.
Ji Yifei didn’t think twice. After quickly filling out the entry registration at the gate, he immediately ran towards Shang Yan’s house.
Fortunately, he had been clever enough to secretly ask Han Dongjun for Shang Yan’s address before coming, or he would have gotten lost in the neighborhood.
Shang Yan’s house was in the latter part of the neighborhood, and coupled with Ji Yifei’s slight tendency to get lost, it took him a while to find it (although a few detours were to avoid his little aunt).
Shang Yan’s family lived in Blue Harbor, a famous villa area in City B, mostly inhabited by medical professionals or high-tech industry workers.
He vaguely heard people say that Shang Yan’s family was involved in scientific research, which explained why the son was so intelligent.
Ji Yifei didn’t know that his silly smile while standing at the door of the villa was all recorded by the surveillance camera.
Guo Lin happened to see the little boy standing foolishly smiling at the entrance right after dropping off fruit for her son in the basement.
The smile was very bright. The little boy seemed to be lost in thought, completely absorbed.
She walked over, opened the main gate, and cautiously patted the little boy’s shoulder. The child, startled as if by Guo Lin, immediately snapped back to reality.
Ji Yifei recognized the elegant woman in front of him as Shang Yan’s mother immediately. Her demeanor and actions exuded an elegant temperament.
“Little friend, what are you doing standing here?” Guo Lin asked with a warm smile.
Ji Yifei was like a kitten whose tail had been caught, scratching his head awkwardly as he replied:
“Hello, Auntie. I’m here to see Shang Yan. I’ve come to bring him some materials!” He remembered his mother mentioning that elders disliked small, fidgety movements, so he immediately stopped scratching and stood up straight properly.
Guo Lin smiled, thinking to herself: Oh, so he’s a little guest…
Guo Lin looked at this adorable little guest (child). For some reason, perhaps because Shang Yan was often disobedient at home, she had a heartfelt fondness for polite, smiling boys like this.
Guo Lin quickly led the little guest inside, instructing Aunt Wu, who was tidying the kitchen, to prepare some fruit for the little guest. She also asked someone to call Shang Jin, who was watering flowers upstairs, to come down and meet this cute little guest.
Hearing the mention of preparing fruit, Ji Yifei politely declined:
“Auntie, there’s no need! I’m just dropping something off and leaving!”
Guo Lin looked at the little guest’s embarrassed expression and found him truly adorable.
“Oh, don’t be shy. Little friend, what’s your name?”
Ji Yifei straightened his posture and replied, “Auntie, my name is Ji Yifei. I’m Shang Yan’s deskmate at school. You can just call me Yifei.”
Guo Lin looked at the little guest, Yifei, for a moment, then remembered the little guest’s actual purpose for coming was to deliver something to her son, who was throwing a fit during his Heat.
This child probably hadn’t seen Shang Yan in a fit of rage during his Heat.
Guo Lin sighed internally: “Shang Yan is in the basement. His Heat is quite frightening, and he doesn’t let anyone near him. He’s been a little better these days, but what is your secondary gender?”
“Male…” Just one word came out. Ji Yifei realized she was asking for his secondary gender, and his voice softened as he replied:
“A-Auntie, I’m an Omega.”
Ji Yifei didn’t know if it was his imagination, but he felt a different kind of emotion in Guo Lin’s eyes as she looked at him…
Guo Lin’s gaze deepened: “An Omega… Then it might not be convenient for you to go in. Although his Heat has improved somewhat, seeing an Omega… there might still be some…”
Ji Yifei had already prepared. He pulled out an outfit resembling a spacesuit from his backpack and said, “I specifically brought a quarantine suit. If I wear this, he won’t smell my scent, and he won’t see my…”
Ji Yifei was about to say “scent gland,” but then remembered Shang Yan had just bitten it a few days ago and swallowed the rest of the sentence.
Guo Lin had nothing more to say. She checked the brand of the isolation suit, which was a famous one with a high safety rating, and then led the little guest towards the basement.
Ji Yifei had never seen an Alpha isolation room. There were five doors in total from the outside in. Shang Yan was in the innermost room.
Guo Lin stood there and handed the key to Ji Yifei, saying, “His temper might be quite bad right now. I won’t go in and bother you two. Remember not to stay too long, okay? Even with the isolation suit, he’s an Alpha. If he gets truly agitated, it’s not impossible for him to tear this suit.”
Ji Yifei nodded obediently, watching Guo Lin leave. He took a deep breath, inserted the key, and turned it.
It wasn’t that he was a coward; it was his basic Omega instinct telling him that it might be very dangerous inside and that he must protect himself.
He gently turned the key, afraid of disturbing the person inside. But as soon as the door opened a crack, the person inside said irritably:
“Didn’t I say not to bother me? I don’t want to eat anything. Take it all away, or I’ll dump it all later.”
Shang Yan must not have had water for a long time, as his voice was hoarse. Plus, the room didn’t seem to have the lights on, so Ji Yifei was even more afraid to go in… he was scared of the dark.
Shang Yan saw the person at the door neither coming in nor retreating. He assumed it was Shang Jin coming over to talk to him again and directly spoke a threat: “If you want to talk to me, forget it. My head is very agitated right now. You’d better stay far away and go water your rotten flowers upstairs. Be careful, or I’ll snap them.”
Still, the person at the door made no move. Shang Yan thought Shang Jin had angrily left without closing the door. Irritated, he picked up a plastic box and threw it over.
By coincidence, it hit Ji Yifei, who had just mustered the courage to push the door open.
Perhaps because he hadn’t seen sunlight for too long, Shang Yan covered his eyes and looked at the person in front of him dressed like an astronaut.
Could Mom have dressed up as an astronaut to dance for me?
Ji Yifei was shocked by the messy room. Electronic products and test papers were scattered on the floor, the bookshelf was pushed over, books were spilled everywhere, and several books were torn up.
The Alpha in Heat was lying on the bed, next to a notebook that looked like a diary and several letters.
The Alpha on the bed seemed impatient. Because of the backlighting, he couldn’t clearly see the astronaut’s face and coldly said, “Go away.” His tone was somewhat heavy.
Hey! Shang Yan, are you getting aggressive?!
Ji Yifei didn’t know what got into him. He picked up a few pieces of paper from the floor, crumpled them into balls, and threw them at Shang Yan.
Shang Yan was also bewildered by his action and climbed out of bed toward the door.
Unfortunately, the fourth door wasn’t closed, and Ji Yifei was blocked by Shang Yan. Ji Yifei kept his head down, looking at his shoes, refusing to look up.
Shang Yan’s mint scent rushed over him. Although the isolation suit greatly reduced the Alpha’s pheromones, Shang Yan was too close. The Omega’s sense of fear automatically latched onto Ji Yifei’s nerves.
Shang Yan looked at the “astronaut” and felt something was off. He forcefully tried to twist the person’s head up.
Before he could twist it all the way up, he heard a familiar voice.
Ji Yifei: “Shang Yan, you old bastard! That hurts!”
That voice is Ji Yifei!
