He is not my Alpha! - Chapter 19
On the way back to the classroom in the afternoon, a group of people whispered as they passed Ji Yifei. Although Ji Yifei didn’t care, their expressions and actions made it hard not to notice.
“It’s okay, School Bully Ji. You’re famous now, in a certain sense,” Li Jiang comforted him by his side.
Ji Yifei was still following behind Shang Yan. He had been dragged away by Lin Ling and talked to all lunchtime, so he hadn’t slept at all and was practically dying of sleepiness now. He could only walk with his head down behind Shang Yan, unafraid of bumping into anything.
“Look, look, it’s forced our School Bully Ji to hide behind the School Heartthrob. Ah, poor thing,” Li Jiang kept talking. Shang Yan glanced at him.
“Looks like he really was forced into this,” Han Dongjun chimed in. He hadn’t slept at noon either, spending the whole time arguing with those people in the comments section.
“Do you guys know who the new school bully candidates are now?” Xue Xi brought up a topic.
“I know. Isn’t it that guy from Class Three who tries to look cool, and the female Alpha who confessed to Ji Yifei yesterday?” Li Jiang replied.
“No, no, no! You’re too outdated!” Xue Xi turned around, facing Shang Yan and Li Jiang, waving his hand. Han Dongjun spoke up, “Who is it then? Stop building suspense.”
“That guy from Class Three was rejected because he was too ugly. The confessing female Alpha was rejected because of the confession incident. The current most famous candidate is the one who just transferred to our class—” Before he could finish, he bumped into someone from behind.
Shang Yan, who was closest to him, reached out and grabbed him to prevent him from falling, but the person he bumped into was not so lucky.
“Sorry, sorry!” Xue Xi quickly turned around to apologize, but when he turned, he was stunned.
The person he bumped into was caught by someone and prevented from falling. He bumped into Wen Xinxin, and the person holding him was the one he just mentioned, “the one who just transferred to our class”—Wei Zhiheng.
Li Jiang couldn’t help but flinch when he saw Wei Zhiheng. After all, he had said something bad on the day he arrived and offended him.
“It’s okay, it’s okay,” Wen Xinxin whispered that it was fine, but Wei Zhiheng, who was holding him, never let go. The two remained in that strange posture.
Wei Zhiheng seemed to be shielding Wen Xinxin in his arms.
Xue Xi was still apologizing. He felt an inexplicable fear toward the Alpha in front of him.
“It’s fine.” Finally, a low, deep voice emerged, and Xue Xi stopped apologizing.
Then Wei Zhiheng pulled Wen Xinxin away.
As soon as they left, Xue Xi couldn’t help but say, “Honestly… this Wei Zhiheng really has a ‘school bully’ vibe.”
Li Jiang: “Putting on an act.”
Han Dongjun: “Inexplicable.”
The two simultaneously dismissed Xue Xi’s idea.
Ji Yifei, who had been watching the situation with his head up since they hadn’t moved for a long time, noticed that Wen Xinxin had glanced at him just now.
Maybe it’s a mistake? he thought. He quietly leaned in close to Shang Yan’s ear and said, “Did you notice just now…” Before he could finish, Shang Yan naturally completed his sentence.
“Wen Xinxin looked at you several times just now, each time glancing twice and then shrinking back,” Shang Yan also quietly replied.
“You noticed too.” Ji Yifei walked out from behind him and walked side-by-side with him. The people next to them also continued walking back to the classroom. Han Dongjun and Li Jiang continuously criticized Wei Zhiheng’s behavior just now.
From his gaze to his posture, to his voice, to his tone.
“Does he have something he wants to say to me?” Ji Yifei was very concerned about Wen Xinxin’s gaze just now. He felt it wasn’t just a simple look.
“You can add him on WeChat via the class group after school and ask,” Shang Yan replied.
“Wouldn’t that be awkward to ask? What if I’m being overly sensitive?” Ji Yifei felt it would be strange to randomly approach someone like that.
Shang Yan looked at Ji Yifei, saw that he was only focusing on thinking and not watching the path. He had no choice but to put his hand on Ji Yifei’s shoulder, lowering his voice, “Then I’ll observe him for you some more.”
Ji Yifei approved of Shang Yan’s plan. He found Shang Yan quite easy to get along with, much better than he had originally imagined.
He thought this, and he said it aloud: “Shang Yan, we’re good buddies now, right?”
Shang Yan smiled ambiguously at his statement and replied, “Yes, good brothers who help each other out.”
Ji Yifei understood Shang Yan’s double meaning when he heard the four words “help each other out.” He also reached out and put his arm around Shang Yan’s shoulder, instantly closing the distance between them.
His shoulder was completely pressed against Shang Yan’s shoulder. He said, “Yes, help each other out,” then patted Shang Yan’s nape.
Shang Yan indulged his action, not counting it as “harassing an Alpha,” and walked back to the classroom with him arm-in-arm.
Finally, it was time for school to end in the afternoon. Ji Yifei deliberately took his time packing up. Most of the students had already left.
“Damn it, Young Master Ji, even if we don’t want to go home, we don’t need to delay by these few minutes, okay? Everyone else has gone back.” Han Dongjun sat on the podium, clasping his hands together, begging the unhurried young master in front of him to hurry up.
Ji Yifei was annoyed by his urging. The thought of going home to face his mother made him tremble.
“I just don’t get it. My mom has such a bad temper. How did my dad fall for her?”
Han Dongjun walked down from the podium and forcibly helped him pack his things. While packing, he replied, “Perhaps Uncle Ji just likes that type.”
“Sometimes I wonder if my dad is a masochist,” Ji Yifei replied.
Han Dongjun zipped up his backpack, tossed it into his arms, and sneered, “Heh, I don’t know if Uncle Ji is a masochist. I only know that staying here to serve a young master who won’t go home and pack his own things, I clearly have masochistic tendencies.”
“Sigh.” Ji Yifei sighed, put on his backpack, and walked out with him. “Misfortunes don’t come singly, and there’s no escape from trouble.”
Han Dongjun looked at him and could only respond, “It’s okay. Things will work out in the end. You’re this old now; she can’t possibly hit you, right? Besides, you’re an Omega, after all.”
Ji Yifei chuckled twice, “The Omega status only helps now and then. Sometimes I really hate why I couldn’t look exactly like my dad. My mom wouldn’t bear to scold me looking at that face.”
The two bickered all the way to the school gate. As they walked out, they saw Ji He, his Omega father, standing at the gate.
“Yifei! Xiao Han! Come here quickly!” Ji He saw them too and excitedly waved them over.
The two spontaneously quickened their steps toward him.
“Dad, why did you come down to pick me up? You could have just waited in the car.” Ji Yifei saw his father dressed up like a zongzi (a type of rice dumpling), yet his face was still a bit red from the cold. He regretted why he had come down so late.
Ji He naturally reached out to take his son’s suitcase. Ji Yifei didn’t stop him.
The three exchanged a few pleasantries. Han Dongjun declined Ji He’s invitation and walked toward his own family’s car. Ji Yifei walked a few steps with him. When he turned back, he saw that his mother had already taken the suitcase.
“Mom,” Ji Yifei called out. His mother nodded in response.
The three got into the car. Throughout the ride, Ji He was the one asking Ji Yifei about his situation at school and apologizing for not being able to send him off for the start of the semester.
The monthly exam is almost here, Ji Yifei complained internally.
His mother drove in the driver’s seat, but Ji Yifei could feel his mother sizing him up through the rearview mirror.
Han Dongjun walked towards the parking lot and unexpectedly saw Shang Yan at the parking lot entrance, sitting behind a Mercedes-Benz, watching him.
“Well, Young Master Shang hasn’t left yet?” They usually didn’t mention family background at school, but everyone in the school knew about Shang Yan’s family.
The only son of the Shang family. S-class Alpha.
“Hmm, about to leave.” He quickly said goodbye to Han Dongjun and rolled up the window.
Han Dongjun sighed, wondering why this person was acting so cold once they left school grounds.
As soon as Ji Yifei entered the house, his mother spoke to him for the first time face-to-face today.
“Come to my study later.” Then she strode away.
Ji Yifei felt extreme internal distress. He put his things in his room, double-checked his scent blocker patches, and then went downstairs.
Ji Yifei took one last look at his father, wearing an expression of a man walking to his doom. His father understood his son’s internal struggle. He walked over and hugged him, releasing some of his comforting pheromones as an Omega father. Ji Yifei felt a little more secure.
At least with his dad’s gardenia pheromones protecting him, his mother wouldn’t resort to violence.
He made sure his dad was sitting on a small stool outside the study door, repeatedly urging him to open the door and rescue him if he heard his distress signal, before pushing the door open and entering.
Sure enough, as soon as he entered, he saw his mother frown and sneer. Looking at her computer, she said, “Did you do something wrong? Why do you need your dad to use his pheromones to protect you?”
Ji Yifei sat down in front of the computer desk and subconsciously touched his scent gland. To prevent problems, he had put on three blocker patches as soon as he got home, and he had been hugged by his father, who was extremely sensitive to pheromones. His body was now covered in his father’s pheromones.
“No, this is just… tradition,” Ji Yifei replied awkwardly.
“Sit up straight. Don’t fidget.” His mother was irritated by his slouching posture.
Ji Yifei groaned inwardly. It was like this again. She wouldn’t talk about the actual matter but had to scold him first.
Sure enough, just like tradition, she left him hanging there for twenty minutes before stopping her work.
Does she think this makes her look busy? Ji Yifei complained internally.
“Go out with me tomorrow. Someone from City B is coming over. He’s also your schoolmate. You’ll attend and show your face.”
A face flashed through Ji Yifei’s mind.
“Is his surname Wei?” he asked.
“Hmm.” His mother looked up and met his gaze. “You know him?”
Ji Yifei could say that his mother’s eyes were the scariest thing in the world, no less terrifying than getting last place in the exam.
“More or less. He’s in my class. We’ve exchanged a few words.” Actually, we haven’t exchanged a single word, he added internally.
“That’s even better. Say a few more words when you meet this time. It might be useful later.”
“Okay.” Ji Yifei readily agreed. He just wanted to get out of his mother’s sight quickly and return to his room.
He covered his mouth and coughed twice. Soon, his dad knocked on the door: “Can I come in?”
His mother glanced at him, knowing it was the signal Ji Yifei had sent, but didn’t say anything. She replied, “Come in.”
Ji He walked in carrying a plate of fruit. He stood behind his wife and winked at Ji Yifei across the room.
Ji Yifei internally lamented, “Fatherly love is as great as a mountain, fatherly love is grand!” Then he said he needed to go back to his room to do homework and scurried away.
Ji Mu watched Ji Yifei’s retreating figure, turned around to face the “innocent” Ji He, sighed, and said, “After all these years, your trick is still the same.”
Ji He smiled gently at her, used a fork to pick up a piece of the peeled apple on the plate and fed it to her. Instead of answering her question, he said, “Today’s apple is especially sweet. Try it.”
Ji Mu didn’t open her mouth. Ji He understood her meaning. He put the apple in his own mouth and then leaned down.
Ji Yifei felt completely relieved the moment he left the study, as if a million tons of stones had been lifted from him. Even his breathing was smooth.
His mother was always like this, releasing Alpha suppression pheromones.
He once again wondered internally how his father had fallen for his mother…
He returned to his room and immediately threw himself onto the bed. Sure enough, the quilt smelled completely of sunshine. He once again praised the greatness of fatherly love!
He fell asleep because he was too comfortable…
In the dream, he also returned home, but the difference was that he was wearing a suit. He peered at the large front door, and the person who opened it was surprisingly Shang Yan in an apron!!!
He switched back and forth between first-person and third-person perspectives. He saw Shang Yan naturally take the briefcase from his hand, help him take off his coat, and feed him fruit.
He even smelled the faint scent of mint surrounding him.
He woke up with a start, as if he had a terrifying dream, suddenly sitting up in bed.
“Holy sht, what the fck…” He took deep breaths of air. His dad’s knocking came from outside the room.
“Yifei, come out and eat.”
He replied with an “Oh” and quickly changed into his loungewear before going out.
His dad noticed his troubled expression and asked, “Did you have a nightmare?”
Ji Yifei didn’t want him to worry. He shook his head and replied, “No, I ran into a difficult problem and couldn’t solve it.”
His dad patted his shoulder and comforted him, “It’s okay. You just can’t solve it now. Dad believes in you.”
The comforting pheromones spread around him. He knew his dad was comforting him.
He wrapped his arms around his dad’s upper body, rested his head on his dad’s shoulder, and asked the question that had troubled him for years.
“Dad, how exactly did you fall for my mom…”
His dad was visibly stunned by his question. He laughed and asked, “Why are you asking this?”
Ji Yifei: “No reason, just genuinely curious. Can you tell me?”
His dad patted his shoulder, “I’ll tell you when you grow up.”
Heh heh, Ji Yifei sneered internally. That move was exactly what you’d say to a child.
He clung to his dad all the way to the dining table. His mother looked up and said, “You’re how old and still clinging to your dad? Aren’t you ashamed?”
Ji Yifei was scared by her words. Afraid that another study talk was coming, he quickly let go of his dad. His dad smiled, “No matter how old Yifei is, he’s still my child.”
The three sat down and began to eat.
