He is not my Alpha! - Chapter 27
The second day of Sports Day arrived as scheduled, and spring had officially begun. The sun rose earlier in the morning, and people spontaneously shed their winter uniforms for the spring ones.
“Ahhhhhhh!” The Omega dorm was loud from the crack of dawn. At 4 o’clock in the morning, everyone, regardless of gender, was up, painting their faces in front of the mirror.
Jiang Jie was one of them. If Ji Yifei remembered correctly, the first time he was woken up by Jiang Jie, his phone displayed 4:04.
Lin Ling was also dragged along. The two had tried to persuade Chen Ken yesterday for a long time but failed to get the Class Monitor, who just wanted more sleep, to join.
Ji Yifei didn’t even need to be called. Jiang Jie could only hold his forehead and wish he could also have such a handsome face in his next life.
The 6:10 wake-up bell rang punctually. Ji Yifei took a while to wake up after getting over his morning temper. When he woke up, he saw Chen Ken brushing his teeth at the sink, being pestered with questions.
Jiang Jie: “Class Monitor, do you think my makeup looks natural?”
Chen Ken wiped the foam from his mouth and answered solemnly, “It’s quite natural, like… like you didn’t put any on.”
Jiang Jie was speechless and walked away, leaving Chen Ken alone and bewildered.
Lin Ling also came closer: “Class Monitor, what about me? I applied a lot. How is it?”
Chen Ken spat out the mouthwash and replied, “It’s drawn very well, very obvious!”
Lin Ling also left. Now the Class Monitor was truly alone, standing there looking lost.
Ji Yifei sighed, walked up, put his arm around Chen Ken’s shoulder, and said to Jiang Jie, “It’s very natural, but much more refined than usual. From afar, you look naturally beautiful.”
Then he turned to Lin Ling and said, “Our Lin Ling’s makeup is also refined and very detailed, but also very cute.”
These two sentences completely appeased the two Omegas. The corners of their mouths almost stretched to meet the sun. Chen Ken’s jaw, however, was nearly touching the ground.
In the end, the straightforward Chen Ken shook his head helplessly, lamenting that makeup was truly an art.
After breakfast, everyone moved their stools to the sports field. The field was a chaotic mess, with yelling here and commotion there.
Ji Yifei carried his stool, looking for the sports committee member. He finally found him on the third scan of the field.
Shang Yan was behind Ji Yifei. The two carried their stools and, along with Zhou Tian and Li Jiang, were intercepted by the homeroom teacher to sit in the first row.
He Jing was also dressed up today, changing out of her usual professional attire into sports clothes, with a high ponytail and light makeup. Several girls close to her gathered around to compliment her.
Ji Yifei put down his stool and sat down. Shang Yan also sat down, and the two looked at each other.
Shang Yan asked, “Did you not put on makeup?”
Ji Yifei chuckled, vigorously rubbed his face, and replied, “I’m naturally beautiful, don’t need it.”
He looked at Shang Yan from head to toe: “But you’re missing something today. Where are your glasses?”
Shang Yan smiled and rubbed his eyes: “I was afraid they’d be inconvenient during the competition today. I wore OK lenses last night before bed. I can see clearly without them today.”
“Oh,” Ji Yifei replied. He was about to ask what OK lenses were when two girls, holding hands, ran over and stood directly in front of Ji Yifei and Shang Yan.
“Sen… seniors, excuse me, can I ask you a question?” One of the girls spoke first. Ji Yifei saw her lowering her head shyly toward Shang Yan and guessed she was here to confess.
Shang Yan first turned to look at Ji Yifei. Ji Yifei frowned and silently gave him a question mark.
The Alpha smiled, looked at the girl standing in front of him, and nodded, signaling her to speak.
The girl seemed to have mustered great courage. Her voice trembled as she asked, “Are you two… a couple?”
Ji Yifei felt the weather was terrible today. The cold wind of winter was still drifting across the land. Why else would it suddenly get so cold?
“…What?” Ji Yifei felt like he had an auditory hallucination.
The girl thought the other party hadn’t heard clearly, so she raised her volume and asked again.
Li Jiang, who was goofing around nearby, immediately spat out the water in his mouth. Zhou Tian let go of his arm. Li Jiang fell to the ground, laughing so hard he couldn’t straighten up.
Lin Ling, behind them, dropped the compact powder he was using for touch-ups upon hearing the question. Chen Ken was too shocked to catch it.
Han Dongjun, who was walking over, froze in place, and 30 seconds later, joined the person on the ground in hysterical laughter.
Shang Yan just smiled and replied, “No, we are currently just classmates.” His answer was only partially heard—just “classmates”—due to the loud laughter around them.
But Ji Yifei heard the two words “currently just,” and felt strange, yet he didn’t ask.
The girl’s cheeks were already red. Hearing the answer, she nodded, and the girl beside her slowly spoke, “Then, senior… would you mind adding us on WeChat?”
“Hahahahaha!” Another burst of wild laughter came from behind. Li Jiang and Han Dongjun, who had just helped each other up, laughed themselves back down again.
Ji Yifei turned around and gave the two a “friendly” gesture in exasperation. Turning back, he apologized to the girls, “Sorry, I don’t have any interest in that right now. You are very pretty.” He then added a standard Ji-style smile.
Shang Yan watched Ji Yifei throughout, taking in the other’s expression completely.
Shang Yan also nodded: “I’m the same as him.”
The two girls got their answers and could only walk away hand-in-hand.
Students continuously arrived, and the homeroom teacher began taking attendance, finding two people missing.
“Teacher, Wei Zhiheng and Wen Xinxin are missing,” Li Jiang reported.
Hearing the names, Ji Yifei remembered the incident that night and glanced at Shang Yan. Shang Yan smiled slightly in response.
The two had a silent understanding.
Han Dongjun left soon after the opening ceremony. He was in the student council and had to run around helping with the Sports Day.
The first event was the formation parade. Their class’s practice was adequate. Besides, the class led by the Director was definitely going to be first, even without watching.
Ji Yifei and Shang Yan were both signed up for many individual events, but they happened to be staggered. In a few competitive team events, if Ji Yifei was in it, Shang Yan wasn’t, and vice versa.
Chen Ken explained, “Each of you is formidable alone. No need to put you together.”
Ji Yifei nodded in thanks.
Li Jiang was even more busy, participating in everything he could, wishing he could be in all the events.
The first day passed like this. Everyone was exhausted and panting, and many had muscle strains. Ji Yifei was also so tired after his run that he collapsed onto his stool, not wanting to move.
“Class Monitor… I’m exhausted… I don’t even want to move now.” Ji Yifei felt like his bones were falling apart. His chest was still heaving, and he tasted a metallic, bloody flavor in his throat.
Chen Ken handed him a bottle of water and looked down at the event schedule.
“Class Monitor, are there any events left?” Ji Yifei asked, taking a sip of water.
“Oh, there’s one last one.” Chen Ken looked down, flipping to the last page of the schedule.
“There’s the shot put left. Li Jiang, Wei Zhiheng, and Shang Yan are competing.” He finished and glanced at Ji Yifei, finding that he had already stood up, wiped the sweat from his body. His earlier claim of “can’t move” seemed to have vanished.
When Ji Yifei rushed over, the area was already surrounded by a crowd. Fortunately, he wasn’t too short and could barely see a bit.
The person responsible for managing the field outside was Han Dongjun. Ji Yifei walked around the side and stood next to Han Dongjun, helping him pull the caution tape tight.
Han Dongjun was moved. He patted his shoulder, exclaiming, “Good brother!” and then went to the other side.
Ji Yifei looked at the field. They were calling out names. Shang Yan, Li Jiang, and Wei Zhiheng standing together were too conspicuous. Many spectators were taking photos with their phones and cameras.
“Senior, are you here to watch Senior Shang’s competition too?” a girl next to him spoke. Ji Yifei turned around and found it was the girl who had asked if he and Shang Yan were a couple this morning.
Ji Yifei nodded and replied, “They’re all buddies in the same class. I came to watch and help the student council a bit.”
The girl covered her mouth and smiled. She looked at Ji Yifei and said, “To be honest, when I heard the rumors about you when school started, my friend and I both felt you were an unapproachable, cold, cool guy, the kind with no expression on his face.”
Ji Yifei shook his head helplessly: “And how do you feel now?”
The girl replied, “A very approachable handsome guy, with a great personality too.” She glanced around, making sure no one was looking their way. She lowered her voice and asked, “You and Senior Shang…” Before she could finish, the announcement for the start of the competition came.
The girl swallowed her words, her attention shifting to the field. She said to Ji Yifei, “Senior, I’ll talk to you later. Let’s watch the competition first.”
The person holding the caution tape stood up straight, his gaze fixed on the field.
Shang Yan adjusted his clothes and took off his glasses. He was the first to throw. He stood in position and stretched his ankles twice.
The referee blew the whistle. Shang Yan’s body quickly straightened from its bent state. The burst of power he instantly unleashed was felt by Ji Yifei even from outside the field.
“18.9 meters!” The scorekeeper announced the distance, and the entire field erupted.
Especially the people in the back rows, their screams made Ji Yifei want to drop the caution tape and cover his ears.
He felt the caution tape in his hand tighten; people were surging forward. Ji Yifei finally understood why the caution tape was necessary.
Ji Yifei shouted from the side, “Everyone, pay attention to the order! Don’t crowd!” but it didn’t have much effect.
Han Dongjun was also anxious on his side, quickly calling two student council members for help. While pulling the rope tight, he complained, “What kind of event security am I working as?”
Just as Ji Yifei was about to lose his grip, a pair of relatively slender hands also helped pull the rope. The back of the hands was smooth, with faint blue veins visible.
Ji Yifei turned around and saw a boy wearing a black scarf. The person quietly said, “I’ll… I’ll help you too.”
With an extra pair of hands, the rope was quickly pulled taut. Student council members also took over, and seeing that Ji Yifei wasn’t wearing a student council badge, they thanked him profusely.
After all this commotion, when Ji Yifei looked up, the competition had already reached Class Three. Shang Yan’s figure was nowhere to be seen.
Ji Yifei looked around. Suddenly, someone tapped him with something. Ji Yifei turned and saw Shang Yan without his glasses. He held two bottles of water. One was half-drunk, and the other was being offered to him.
Ji Yifei took it with thanks. He was about to offer it to Wen Xinxin first, but found he was already talking next to Wei Zhiheng.
Just then, Wen Xinxin turned his head. The two exchanged greetings, and then Wei Zhiheng took him away.
Ji Yifei also took Shang Yan back to the audience area, mimicking the spectators who had rushed forward to see Shang Yan all the way.
Shang Yan laughed in response to him. The two walked side-by-side back to the audience area. The evening sun stretched their shadows long.
It wasn’t until they reached the audience area that Ji Yifei remembered the girl from earlier still had something to say. He turned around and asked Shang Yan, “Do you know which class the two girls who came to find us this morning are from?”
Ji Yifei felt the smile on Shang Yan’s face falter slightly. Shang Yan took his glasses out of his pocket and put them on. His smile was readjusted.
“Regretting it? Going to give them your WeChat now?” he asked.
Ji Yifei cursed him, “Nonsense.” He replied, “One of the girls had something to ask me when we were pulling the caution tape, that’s why I remembered.”
Shang Yan asked again, “What question?”
Ji Yifei gave him a “crazy person” look in return and countered, “If I knew the question, why would I need to ask her?”
Shang Yan said, “Oh.” He took off his glasses, wiped them, put them back on, and looked at Ji Yifei more clearly.
Shang Yan: “You can go ask Li Jiang. He knows everyone.”
Ji Yifei scratched the back of his head. He thought for a moment: “Forget it. If I couldn’t ask now, I’ll ask next time I see her. Let’s go eat first.”
Only the last few classes were competing in the shot put on the field. The other students were scattered, either returning to class or going to eat. Ji Yifei weighed his options and chose to go eat.
After dinner, they went back to the classroom to watch a movie for a while, and the students were released back to the dorms early. Ji Yifei walked to the dorm with his three roommates.
“Ahhhhhhh! The senior accepted my WeChat request!” Lin Ling was constantly screaming next to him. Today, he had added the WeChat of a senior he liked and was repeatedly showing everyone photos of how handsome the senior was.
Jiang Jie’s side was also a “harvest.” He had met a bunch of people, from male and female Alphas to male and female Betas. According to him, a young boy even came over to ask if he accepted O-O relationships.
Ji Yifei and Chen Ken listened and laughed on the side. Ji Yifei looked up and just saw two familiar figures ahead.
Jiang Jie also noticed. He lowered his voice and ominously asked, “Do you guys think…” Before he could finish, he got a firm confirmation from Lin Ling.
Chen Ken muttered, “No early dating…” but was silenced by the two with a glare.
Ji Yifei, who knew the inside story, didn’t speak, only laughed. Just then, someone pulled him out of the group of four. He turned around and met Shang Yan’s gaze.
“Hmm?” Ji Yifei’s expression was a question mark. He turned to look for the other three, but they had long since disappeared without a trace.
? Ji Yifei had his second question mark of the day.
“Li Yiqin, Class Three, Grade One.” He said this expressionlessly, then let go of Ji Yifei’s hand. Seeing Ji Yifei’s completely puzzled expression, he replied, “The girl who wanted to ask you a question. I ran into her just now. Do you want me to tell you what the question was?”
Ji Yifei nodded. Looking at Ji Yifei’s brightly lit eyes under the nearby streetlamp, Shang Yan smirked: “She asked me, ‘Are we two really a couple?'”
…Ji Yifei had his third question mark of the day.
