He is not my Alpha! - Chapter 8
On Sunday, Ji Yifei was woken up again early in the morning. He was dead tired, but there was no helping it—this was the fourteenth call from Shang Yan…
He felt like he was going crazy.
He got up in a huff, looked at his hair in the mirror, and casually adjusted it a couple of times. He threw the long black down jacket over his pajamas and headed out.
He hadn’t taken two steps out the door before he turned back, dragging his feet in a way that made him want to stomp through the floorboards, and went back inside to grab his phone. Looking at the two characters “Shang Yan” on the screen, he wanted to smash the phone.
He slid to answer the call and said, “I’ll be down immediately.” He then stood for a few minutes. The other side finally spoke, “No rush,” the calm and soothing tone transmitting through the microphone to his ear. His morning temper seemed to be pacified, and he hung up and headed downstairs.
Shang Yan had been waiting downstairs for over an hour. Seeing the person he was waiting for finally arrive, he looked up and pushed his glasses. As for why he could recognize this person as Ji Yifei at a glance… it had everything to do with his “caterpillar” attire.
But today was a little different; he hadn’t even changed out of his pajamas, coming straight down in his sleep pants and thick boots.
He looked down at the outfit of the person in front of him and asked, “Are you wearing long johns?”
Ji Yifei: How obsessed is he with long johns…
Ji Yifei reluctantly pulled up his thickened sleep pants, showing Shang Yan the black long johns inside, and even insisted on holding Shang Yan’s hand to let him feel why these sleep pants deserved the name “thickened.”
Shang Yan’s pupils dilated slightly the moment Ji Yifei took his hand. He only reacted when Ji Yifei placed his hand on his sleep pants, feeling the fluffy texture.
An Omega… constantly being touchy-feely with an Alpha… Shang Yan silently mused. But his subtle thoughts weren’t revealed (perhaps Ji Yifei didn’t notice), and the two got into a taxi and headed to the hospital.
Ji Yifei leaned back and closed his eyes to rest on the way; he was practically dead from exhaustion. Last night, he’d had a sudden burst of energy and cleaned the entire house, not sleeping until 2 AM. Now, he had to wake up so early—was he a special forces soldier or something??? He turned his head to look at the “culprit,” who was currently engrossed in his phone.
He glanced at Shang Yan’s thick spectacle lenses, then looked down at Shang Yan’s phone with a privacy screen protector, and reached out to poke his phone case.
“How nearsighted are you, still playing on your phone? Don’t you care about your eyes?” Being freshly awake made his voice a little deep, but a playful tone still couldn’t be suppressed.
Shang Yan heard him and replied with a simple “Okay,” then turned off the screen and put his phone away. He said, “I looked up your symptoms. It might be an information pheromone disorder.”
Shang Yan turned to look at Ji Yifei. Ji Yifei was leaning against the taxi window, looking outside. Whenever this topic came up, he would always show this expression.
The person beside him faintly “Mm”ed. Ji Yifei didn’t know how to respond; he was deeply unsettled.
Although he could pretend nothing had happened, the fact was undeniable. He and Shang Yan now shared a Mark, which, due to their extremely high compatibility, had automatically upgraded to a Permanent Mark. Now his pheromones were irregular, and he was so dependent on Shang Yan’s pheromones. It was either acquired pheromone dependence syndrome or information pheromone disorder.
He was just a high school student, and such a huge change suddenly occurred in his life. All he could feel was a wave of bitterness, and he had nothing else to say.
The hospital wasn’t far, and they arrived during their silence. Shang Yan and Ji Yifei got out of the car one after the other. The Omega Department of the hospital was already strangely familiar to them. There were few people today, and they could be seen almost immediately.
Pushing open the door, they saw the familiar face of the old doctor… both were somewhat speechless.
Dr. He glanced at the two young people who entered and couldn’t help but smile slightly. Young people nowadays…
“What are your symptoms?” Ji Yifei always felt that the old man in front of him had an inexplicable aura that made him feel very strange.
“Unstable pheromones and irregular heat cycles.” Before he could speak, the Alpha’s voice came from behind him. The doctor lowered his head and wrote a few “scribbles” on the medical record (at least that’s what Ji Yifei thought). Then he looked up again and asked, “Anything else?”
Ji Yifei shook his head, just about to say no, when the person behind him spoke again: “There might be something wrong with his head; I feel like his intelligence has dropped.”
This statement made the doctor look up and pause his writing, ready to say something, but the Omega sitting in the chair retorted, “Your head is the one with problems! My brain is perfectly normal.” After saying this, he didn’t forget to “tsk.”
This “tsk” made Shang Yan want to laugh a little, but he held it in and spoke again, though his voice was slightly softer and lower this time.
“His temper has also become a bit irritable.”
This sentence indeed rattled Ji Yifei a bit. What did he mean, his temper was a bit irritable? He was clearly a handsome guy who was kind, gentle, elegant, and articulate, okay? He thought this in his heart, and his mouth voiced it out. As he spoke, he didn’t forget to turn around and face the Alpha behind him.
“Who are you calling bad-tempered? My temper is super good, alright?”
Shang Yan lowered his head to meet his gaze. He looked into Ji Yifei’s eyes, and his own face was reflected in the shine of the pupils. He couldn’t help but want to reach out and touch those eyes.
“You’re a maniac,” he cursed himself in his heart.
He reached out, intending to flick Ji Yifei’s forehead. Indeed, if he didn’t take advantage of this position, he himself would feel uncomfortable. But before his hand could reach the forehead, the doctor on the other side of the desk, who had witnessed the entire process, gently coughed.
Shang Yan realized what he was about to do, but his hand was already extended, so he changed his target to Ji Yifei’s head, giving it a quick, light pat before retracting his hand. He added, “Turn around and listen properly to the doctor.”
The doctor watched the two young people bickering and silently thought, youth is wonderful.
The two received forms and underwent a battery of tests. The final result was Information Pheromone Disorder, caused by the Omega not receiving adequate pheromone comfort after being permanently marked by an Alpha, leading to psychological harm for the Omega.
Ji Yifei: Damn it, who knew a temporary mark would turn into a permanent one.
Few Omegas suffer from this condition now. Most Omegas, if they are sexually active, prepare in advance and wear collars to cover their scent glands. The code to the scent gland is known only to themselves, and others cannot unlock it. Most cases of this condition occur after marriage when an Omega and an Alpha have a conflict, or when the Alpha is unable to be present due to work.
However, the treatment for this condition is very simple: the Alpha simply needs to stay by the Omega’s side in time, soothing the sudden heat periods, and the symptoms will slowly disappear over time.
But for Ji Yifei, this method was practically a death sentence.
That night’s mistake had already greatly impacted Shang Yan. Now, being inexplicably tied by a Permanent Mark was already difficult, and adding an Information Pheromone Disorder was simply unmanageable.
The atmosphere was heavy as the two left the hospital. Neither of them spoke, until Shang Yan broke the silence: “I’ve noticed that every time we leave the hospital, the atmosphere is this heavy.”
After saying this, he mentally mocked himself—they’d only been here twice, and besides, who is happy when leaving a hospital?
“Shang Yan, I’m sorry,” Ji Yifei’s voice came from beside him, not as he had imagined.
“I’ve caused you so much trouble. You don’t need to worry about this; I’ll figure out a way to solve it myself,” Ji Yifei continued. But he knew clearly in his heart that there was no solution. He wasn’t of age and couldn’t undergo Mark Cleansing. Buying synthetic pheromones also wouldn’t last.
He knew better than anyone that there was simply no solution, but he didn’t want to burden others.
Shang Yan was taken aback by his words. He’d solve it himself? How could he solve something like this on his own?
“I’m also responsible for this; I couldn’t control myself that night either. I brought you greater harm, and I should be the one to say sorry,” he said flatly, his hands subtly clenching into fists.
“Ah? Forget it… You’re the campus heartthrob, with so many Omegas and Betas chasing you. Don’t let me block your way here,” Ji Yifei said, feigning lightness. He genuinely didn’t want to trouble Shang Yan.
“It’s fine, I don’t have any feelings for them.” Having said that, he turned to face Ji Yifei, looked him in the eyes, and said, “I can help you. It’s what I should do.”
Ji Yifei knew he couldn’t argue with him and understood he had no other options. He silently noted that he deeply owed Shang Yan a favor.
“Thanks,” he replied, forcing a smile.
“Mm, it’s getting late. Go back and pack up, then wait to go back to school this afternoon.” Shang Yan’s fists quietly relaxed. He noticed Ji Yifei’s nervous state and reached out again to gently pat Ji Yifei’s head.
Ji Yifei’s hair was very soft and slightly brown. Perhaps due to the Omega’s genetic advantage, his skin was also very fair.
Ji Yifei didn’t mind Shang Yan touching his head this time. He replied, “Okay,” and he and Shang Yan each got into a taxi.
Ji Yifei leaned against the taxi window, reflecting on everything that had happened recently.
The fact proved that besides cursing himself as an “idiot,” he couldn’t come up with any other conclusion. He closed his eyes, listening to the sad love songs playing on the car radio. When he got to class this afternoon, he could only pretend nothing had happened. More importantly, he absolutely had to maintain a good relationship with Shang Yan…
He went home to pack his things and happened to run into his mother returning from outside just as he was leaving with his suitcase. She was wearing a professional suit and high heels.
“Mom,” he called out, ready to open the door and leave, but his mother stopped him.
“Why do you smell like Alpha pheromones?” Ji Mu asked, looking at him, her gaze scanning him up and down as if she were inspecting a commodity, devoid of a mother’s expected concern.
“Oh, I just went downstairs to buy something and ran into an Alpha from my class. We talked for a few words, and I accidentally brushed against something behind me. He helped me with it, so maybe I got some scent on me.” As he spoke, he kept looking at the background behind his mother; he didn’t want to meet her eyes.
“You should know you are an Omega. Don’t get too close to Alphas.”
Here it comes again, the Omega rules. Ji Yifei internally groaned. He should have left sooner.
This time, however, his mother didn’t say much, just told him to hurry up and go to school. He said “Goodbye” to his mother and left downstairs with his suitcase for school.
With his mother back, she probably wouldn’t be traveling for a while. Maybe he should just stay in the dorm next week.
