He is only Gentle with Her - Chapter 01
The morning sun broke through the clouds, casting golden light.
Sunlight filters through the sheer curtains of the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting faint, delicate patterns on the opposite white wall.
In East City, as winter deepens, sunny days become increasingly rare; days with as much sunlight as today are few and far between.
As if responding to the warmth of the sun, the person lying in bed slowly opened her eyes. There was still a hint of drowsiness and confusion from just waking up, but upon seeing the mottled light on the wall in front of her, her red lips curled slightly.
Such beautiful sunlight is perfect for sleeping.
She lazily turns over and curls deeper into the covers, leaving only half her face exposed to the air.
Her delicate skin, bathed in sunlight, shows a faint pink hue. Her exquisite features and soft curves, even the small shadow cast by her long eyelashes on her eyelids, seem to glow with a gentle warmth.
Before long, her eyelids flutter slightly, as if she has drifted back into dreams.
When the man enters and sees the lump in the bed, he immediately knows that the person lying there is still lingering in slumber.
He chuckled helplessly, shaking his head as he walked to the bed and picked up the alarm clock from the nightstand.
07:32
The alarm he set for her last night was at seven o’clock, but this little woman must have woken up in the middle of the night and turned off the alarm; he really didn’t know what to do with her. He should have checked it again when he went downstairs to make breakfast.
After all, she was quite the habitual offender.
The man sat on the edge of the bed, tucking a few stray strands of hair behind her ear, his gaze lingering on the half of her face exposed outside the covers. He smiled slightly, feeling fortunate that only he could see her sleeping so adorably.
Though he felt a bit reluctant, he leaned down slightly, propped himself up with his elbow, and gently rubbed her cheek, saying, “Lan Wanqing, it’s time to wake up.”
His voice was deep and full, with a magnetic rasp that made it feel like sound waves were vibrating in the air.
Especially when he spoke softly, it made one’s heart itch with pleasure.
This was a voice that didn’t need any balance or echo.
Even in her sleep, Lan Wanqing raised her hand to rub her ear, as if trying to wipe away the tingling sensation.
In her dream, she returned to the day they first met. The moment he opened his mouth, she felt her legs go weak, as if something had brushed against her heart.
She was even sitting.
And he wasn’t even talking to her.
But she had never heard a voice so alluring; oh, and it was especially so because she was the one being seduced.
However…
“Wanwan,” the man’s voice grew softer, his thumb and index finger gently pinching her cheek, “you’re going to be late for work.”
Lan Wanqing, disturbed, had her dream interrupted.
In the instant she opened her eyes, there was a brief moment of daze. The man in front of her was just as handsome as when they first met, with a chiseled face, deep-set eyes, and a high nose bridge.
Her gaze shifted down to his lips; this man’s lips were the most beautiful she had ever seen.
And she knew…
The man’s lips followed her gaze, kissing lightly on her thin eyelashes, then tracing her delicate nose to her lips.
In a daze, Lan Wanqing thought to herself.
She knew just how tempting his lips were; at least, she could never escape them.
After a long, lingering kiss, with the last bit of self-restraint, the man forced himself to pull away from her tempting lips. He reached under the covers, one hand around her neck and the other at the back of her knees, lifting her out of bed.
Lan Wanqing cried out in surprise at his sudden movement, covering her body with her hands, her face flushed as she glared at him: “Wen Sicheng! I’m still naked!”
Wen Sicheng didn’t pause as he walked towards the bathroom, tightening his grip on her before looking down at her with a smile: “Is there any part of you I haven’t seen?”
Lan Wanqing’s face reddened further at his words. She snorted lightly, “You should let your students see what the supposedly aloof and self-restrained Professor Wen is like in private.”
Wen Sicheng smiled, his eyes still full of amusement. He had her stand on his feet, helped her into the bathrobe hanging nearby, and carefully pulled her long hair out from under the garment. Then he leaned down and lightly pecked her lips, raising an eyebrow as he asked, “Do you really want to?”
Lan Wanqing was left speechless.
She turned in his arms and glared at him through the mirror in front of her.
She doesn’t want to.
Wen Sicheng helped her with her hair as she quickly washed her face and brushed her teeth. Then she turned in his arms, stood on tiptoe to wrap her arms around his neck, and clasped her hands behind it.
After freshening up, she felt much more awake, but she remembered that he had carried her over without her wearing any slippers.
Wen Sicheng’s lips curved slightly as he gently brushed his fingers against her cheek. Holding her, he imitated her earlier words and said, “Your company’s elite subordinates should really see how their iron lady, who is so decisive in the office, struggles to get out of bed and needs someone to carry her even to wash up.”
Lan Wanqing mimicked his earlier words, raising an eyebrow and replying, “Do you really want to?”
Wen Sicheng set her down on the edge of the bed, supporting himself on either side of her, and gave her a warm kiss as he softly said, “Hmm, I don’t want to.”
She let out a light huff, slipped on her slippers, and ducked out from under his arm to sit in front of the vanity mirror, efficiently starting her skincare and makeup routine.
Wen Sicheng stood behind her, hands in his pockets, watching her through the mirror.
Because it was something she had done for years, her movements were detailed and swift—and—charming.
Noticing his intense gaze, she met his eyes in the mirror and blinked. He responded with a genuine smile and complimented her, “You look very beautiful.”
Lan Wanqing lowered her eyes and mumbled quietly.
Silver tongue and charming smile.
TL/N: Chinese idiom that describes someone who is skilled at using their words and appearance to charm and manipulate others.
Her voice was so soft that Wen Sicheng didn’t catch it. He took a step forward and raised his tone slightly, “Hmm?”
“Nothing,” Lan Wanqing glanced at him in the mirror, continuing her actions, and then said,”Aren’t you done with your classes? Are you coming to the overseas construction project cooperation presentation between the Lan and Wen companies at eleven o’clock?”
Wen Sicheng stepped forward, pressing down her hand that was holding the lipstick with one hand, while using the other to take the lipstick from her, retracting it and putting the cap back on before placing it on the table.
He then took her hand and led her downstairs, “There’s still time. Let’s have breakfast first.”
Oh, so he meant he wasn’t going to attend.
Indeed, although the collaboration project between the two companies is mainly managed by Wen’s investment firm under his name, he is merely the behind-the-scenes operator. He never showed up for these kinds of external social events.
Fine, if he’s not coming, then so be it—it’s not like she was eager to see him there anyway.
Noticing the small hand pulling away from his grip, Wen Sicheng looked back and saw his wife, who had been married to him for a month, with a not-so-pleasant expression on her face.
He wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close to his chest, and said with a smile, “Next week, we’ll go on our honeymoon for a month. I still have a few things to take care of at the company and school.”
He leaned down and gave her a light kiss on the lips, “I’ll drop you off at the office later.”
Lan Wanqing averted her gaze slightly and murmured, “I didn’t say anything.”
Wen Sicheng raised his hand to pinch her earlobe, teasing with a smile, “Hmm, you just gave me a cold shoulder.”
Lan Wanqing pinched his waist in response, thinking how firm it was.
Wen Sicheng ignored her little, harmless gesture and continued to lead her to the dining table to sit down.
After they finished breakfast, Lan Wanqing planned to clean up, but Wen Sicheng stopped her and signaled her to go upstairs to change.
Lan Wanqing didn’t put on any airs with him.
Once everything was in order, she changed her shoes at the door, stepped out, and saw the black Range Rover parked at the bottom of the stairs.
Lan Wanqing walked down the steps and got into the car.
The car drove through the automatic gate, along the winding black asphalt road, heading toward the city center.
It stopped under the Lan building, with ten minutes to spare before nine o’clock.
Lan Wanqing unbuckled her seatbelt to get out of the car but heard the sound of the seatbelt buckle next to her click as well. She looked up and saw his handsome face leaning toward her.
Lan Wanqing stepped back, raised her index finger to his lips, and with a smiling expression, said, “No, my makeup will smudge.”
She had a meeting soon and didn’t have time to touch up her makeup.
Wen Sicheng kissed the tip of her finger and, understanding, refrained from making any further moves.
Lan Wanqing got out of the car, took a few steps forward, and raised her hand to stop her assistant from approaching her. She then turned back and tapped on the car window with her fingers.
Wen Sicheng, who had planned to watch her enter the company building before leaving, pressed the car window button and said, “Did you forget something?”
Lan Wanqing shook her head, winked at him, and said, “I just wanted to tell you that this morning I dreamed about the day I first saw you in the Maldives last year.”
Wen Sicheng was momentarily stunned by her words.
Then he smiled helplessly and said, “After so long, you still remember?”
Is it true that what you think about during the day appears in your dreams at night?
“So,” Lan Wanqing said with a hint of pride, “when we go again next week, remember what you said before.”
“But Wanwan,” Wen Sicheng said with a slight frown, “you women…”
Before he could finish his sentence, Lan Wanqing interrupted him with a playful laugh and waved her hand. “That’s it, bye-bye.”
Wen Sicheng: “……”
He watched the charming little woman who had just been smiling at him turn and walk into the office building.
The corner of her camel-colored long wool coat was lifted by the wind as she raised her hand to refuse her secretary’s offer to carry her bag. She switched her handbag to the other hand and gently pressed it down.
As Lan Wanqing walked briskly towards the building, she listened to the secretary report about today’s schedule.
Even though Wen Sicheng couldn’t see her face directly, he knew what she looked like.
Her gaze slightly lowered, lips pressed together, eyes calm yet sharp, her back straightened. At 167 cm tall, plus nearly ten centimeters in high heels, her presence was elevated even further.
At this moment, she was the formidable black horse female CEO of the business world.
Watching Lan Wanqing step into the CEO’s private elevator through the panoramic glass, Wen Sicheng finally withdrew his gaze.
He leisurely started the car with a faint smile on his lips as he looked ahead.
Her softer side was something she only showed to him.
It’s because she’s his wife.
Wen Sicheng turned on the headlights and started driving, feeling somewhat helpless, thinking that it would have been better if he hadn’t said that sentence back then.
