Heartbeat - Chapter 2
Su Jianyue spent half an hour scrubbing herself clean and changing into fresh pajamas. She picked up her phone and saw that her younger sister had finally replied.
Mo Fanxing: Sis, I was in class just now. Evening study hall doesn’t end until 9:30 PM, so you won’t see me until then.
Su Jianyue quickly typed back, feeling sorry for her sister. Poor thing! But I went through the same thing. A life without being tormented by high school just isn’t complete.
Su Jianyue: Starlight, you poor thing! Hahahaha! I’ll come find you to play when you get back tonight. (Smug dog emoji)
Mo Fanxing: ……
After chatting with everyone at home, Su Jianyue left her room and went downstairs to wait for her mothers to return.
Mo Yuxin was the first to arrive home. Her jade carving studio had originally been in the house, but the noise from the cutting machines and other equipment became too disruptive. So she bought a three-story villa nearby, about a twenty-minute drive from the family’s mansion, to serve as her dedicated workspace.
Seeing her mother return, Su Jianyue immediately sprang up from the sofa and dashed to the door.
When she reached Mo Yuxin, she threw her arms around her. “Mommy, you’re finally back!”
Mo Yuxin chuckled and patted Su Jianyue’s back. “Come on, you’re all grown up now. Still acting like a little kid, clinging to me like this?”
“Hehe, I’ll always be your little girl,” Su Jianyue said, continuing to snuggle against her mother.
Mo Yuxin couldn’t help but laugh at her daughter’s antics. After finally prying the clingy girl from her embrace, she asked, “Why are you home today? Isn’t tomorrow Friday? Aren’t you supposed to be out with your friends?”
Su Jianyue’s eyes lit up, and she immediately began outlining her plans for tomorrow. “I’m going to Lin Hai City to see Sister! She agreed, and I’m leaving first thing in the morning.”
Mo Yuxin hummed twice, her gaze teasingly drifting toward her daughter. “Lin Hai City is practically your second home now. Should I buy you a penthouse there?”
Su Jianyue hastily shook her head. “No, no! I’m perfectly happy staying with Sister Xunxun. If I had my own place, I wouldn’t be able to stay with her anymore!”
Mo Yuxin couldn’t help but laugh. “Alright, alright. So you just want to go cling to your sister, huh?”
“Mhm! Sister Xunxun must miss me too,” Su Jianyue said confidently.
Mo Yuxin nodded. “Fine, your sister misses you. Is that good enough?”
“Mhm! That’s how it is anyway.”
After a moment’s thought, Mo Yuxin added, “But you need to be careful. You’re both grown up now, and you’re an Alpha. You can’t just hug and cling to her like you did when you were little, understand?”
Su Jianyue nodded eagerly. “I know, you’ve told me that a million times!”
“Good, then I can relax.” Mo Yuxin gazed at her daughter, finding her increasingly adorable. An Alpha as cute as this would definitely charm countless girls.
Su Jianyue chatted with her mother for a while before finally letting Mo Yuxin go take a shower.
Left alone, she dashed to the kitchen to chat with the maids until Su Yubing returned. As soon as her mother walked in, Su Jianyue rushed out of the kitchen and ran to her for a hug.
As Su Yubing watched her daughter rush toward her, she chuckled, “You’re still such a child.”
Though her words were teasing, her eyes crinkled with affection.
My little moon, how you’ve grown so quickly.
“Hehe, I’m going to see Sister tomorrow, so I won’t be able to spend time with you and Mommy. That’s why I wanted to stay with you both a little longer today,” Su Jianyue said sweetly.
Su Yubing shot her a playful glare. “You only think about your sister these days! This is your fourth trip to Lin Hai City this year, isn’t it?”
“Mmm-hmm! But I can’t help it! Sister must miss me too, she’s just too shy to say it.”
Su Yubing burst out laughing and playfully swatted her daughter. “Conceited!”
“I’m not! It’s not my fault Mommy and Mama made me so cute!”
This time, not only Su Yubing laughed, but the maids in the house joined in the amusement.
When Mo Yuxin came downstairs, she found everyone laughing. “What’s going on? Did something funny happen?”
“Mommy, Mama and the others are making fun of me!” Su Jianyue immediately ran to Mo Yuxin to complain.
Mo Yuxin glanced at her daughter, her eyes crinkling into a smile. Her little moon had always been a little sun, filling every room with laughter and joy.
“Really? That must be because you’re so funny,” Mo Yuxin teased, showing no favoritism toward her daughter. Her loyalty always lay with her wife.
“Hmph! You’re all ganging up on me!” Su Jianyue grumbled, then went to cuddle with her mom and mommy.
After a playful tussle, the three of them headed to the dining room for dinner.
That evening, Su Jianyue returned to her room to pack. Since she was only going for three days, she didn’t need much—just a few changes of clothes would do.
Once she’d packed her essentials, she carefully wrapped the gift she’d prepared in several layers of soft cloth, then nestled it in a foam-padded box before placing it in her suitcase.
It was a palm-sized pink jade piglet, carved by Su Jianyue herself during her spare time. The family’s workshop was fully equipped, and since her mommy had started working at her studio, the home workshop was now free for her use.
She had been pestering her mother for days before her mother finally found some free time to teach her carving.
At first, her mother had her practice with inexpensive jade materials. This pink jade pig was the result of a year’s worth of practice.
It had taken her several days to complete. While the finished product couldn’t compare to her mother’s work, it was made with all her heart. The words “Xiao Yueliang” were carved onto the pig’s back. Su Jianyue thought that giving this to her sister would be like having her by her side always.
Having finished her work, Su Jianyue checked the time and went downstairs to make some orange juice and see if her younger sister had returned yet.
She waited in the living room for a while before Mo Fanxing came home.
Mo Fanxing’s eyes lit up when she saw her sister. “Sister, did you wait downstairs for me on purpose?”
Su Jianyue smiled. “Of course! How was school? Not too tiring, I hope? I told you to balance work and rest. Why don’t you take a couple of days off? I’ll take you somewhere to relax.”
Mo Fanxing gave her sister a speechless look. “Sis, I’m already trying to cram two hours of studying into every hour. Where would I find the time to go out and play with you?”
“Tch, you little stick-in-the-mud. Well, keep grinding away. You won’t be free until next June,” Su Jianyue said, shaking her head and pouting.
“Okay, Sis. You go have fun. I’m going back to my room to study,” Mo Fanxing said, heading upstairs to study.
Su Jianyue felt like crying. Her sister was perfect in every way, except she was too serious, like a little adult.
The next morning, Shen Xun sent Su Jianyue a message on Green Bubble.
Shen Xun: What time does your flight arrive? Be careful on the way.
Su Jianyue: Around 10 AM at Lin Hai City Airport. Don’t worry, I’ve traveled alone many times before. It’s not dangerous. (Dog snuggling emoji)
Shen Xun: Okay, I’ll arrange for a driver to pick you up. I’ll send you the driver’s contact information. Just call him when you arrive.
Su Jianyue: Okay, thank you, Sister Xunxun! (Well-behaved dog emoji)
Shen Xun was in her first class of the day when she did something unprecedented: she replied to Su Jianyue’s message on her phone during class.
When Su Jianyue sent her a cute dog emoji, the corners of Shen Xun’s lips curved slightly, and the smile on her face became impossible to suppress.
Eagle-eyed classmates naturally noticed this scene, and whispers began to circulate.
“Hey, did you see that? School Beauty Shen is actually using her phone! That’s unbelievable!”
“And she’s smiling at her phone! Oh my god, that’s so weird.”
“Who could possibly make School Beauty Shen so happy? She looks like she’s in love!”
“No way! Shen Xun has rejected so many people. There’s no way she’s dating anyone.”
The lecturer, hearing the commotion, cleared his throat loudly to regain the students’ attention.
Around 10 a.m., after disembarking from her flight, Su Jianyue contacted her driver. Instead of heading straight back to the Shen Family villa to rest, she instructed the driver to take her directly to Shen Xun’s school.
Worried that Shen Xun might still be in class, Su Jianyue sent her a message in advance.
Su Jianyue: Sister, I’m at your school! When does your class end?
Shen Xun: About ten more minutes. Why did you come straight to school? Aren’t you tired?
Su Jianyue: Hehe, not at all! I missed you~ (puppy rolling around and being affectionate GIF)
Shen Xun: Then wait a bit, I’ll be right out.
Su Jianyue: Okay!
After sending the green bubble message to her clingy little puppy, the smile never left Shen Xun’s face. Her adorable puppy had come to see her!
When class ended, Shen Xun, who usually disliked crowds and waited until the end to leave, had already packed up early. As soon as the lecturer announced the end of class, she sprang to her feet and hurried out of the classroom, the first one to leave.
Zhang Qiao hurried after her, calling out, “Hey, wait for me! Where are you going?”
“She’s here. I’m going to meet her,” Shen Xun replied, quickening her pace.
Zhang Qiao pursed her lips and muttered, “Ugh, forgetting your friends for a pretty face.”
